General information
Choosing the installation site
Positions to avoid:
• Exposed to direct sun.
• Too close to heat sources.
• On humid walls or positions with water hazard, e.g. laundry
premises.
• Where curtains or furniture may obstruct free air circulation.
Recommendations:
• Choose an area free from obstructions which may cause
irregular air distribution and/or return.
• Check that the wall surface is flat enough to allow easy and safe
installation.
The wall structure should be strong enough to carry the unit
weight and avoid deformation, rupture or vibration during
operation.
• Consider using an area where installation is easy.
• Choose a position that allows for the clearances required (see
drawing).
• Look for a position in the room which assures the best possible
air distribution.
• Install the unit in a position where condensate can easily be
piped to an appropriate drain.
User instructions
Read this instruction manual thoroughly before using the
unit.
• This unit complies with low-voltage (EEC/73/23) and electro-
magnetic compatibility (EEC/89/336) directives.
• This unit will only work safely and correctly, if installed and tested
by qualified personnel
• Do not use damaged equipment.
In case of a malfunction turn the unit off and disconnect mains
supply.
•Disconnect the electrical mains supply prior to any
maintenance operations or prior to handling any internal
unit parts.
• Use this unit only for factory approved applications: the unit
cannot be used in laundry or steam pressing premises.
• Be conscious of the room temperature and general comfort,
particularly when this units is used near children, senior or
handicapped people.
• This unit contains rotating equipment (fan). Ensure that this is out
of reach for children.
•All of the manufacturing and packaging materials used for
your new appliance are compatible with the environment and
can be recycled.
• Keep this installation manual safe and hand it over to the new
owner in case of sale.
Unit installation
• Check that voltage and frequency of the mains power supply are
those required for the unit to be installed; the available power
must be adequate to operate any other possible appliances
connected to the same line.
• Check that all current national safety code requirements have
been followed for the installation.
In particular ensure that a properly sized and connected
ground wire is in place.
• Inspect equipment for damage due to improper transportation or
handling: file an immediate claim with the shipping company.
• To work correctly, the air conditioner must operate only within
the temperature indicated in the “Operating limits” table shown
in this manual.
If the unit is made to operate beyond the limits cited above,
malfunctioning or water leaks may occur.
• Failure to observe electrical safety codes may cause a fire hazard
in case of short circuits.
• The manufacturer declines all responsibility in the case of
modifications and electrical or water connection errors caused by
a failure to observe the instructions shown in this installation
manual or in the case of operation in conditions different to those
for which the unit was designed.
In these cases the guarantee is no longer valid.

Exposure to direct sunshine, when the unit is operating in cooling
mode; always use shutters or shades.
Positions too close to heating sources which may damage the unit.
Connecting condensate piping to sewage system drain without
appropriate trap.Trap height must be calculated according to the unit
discharge head in order to allow sufficient and continuous water evacuation.
Only partial insulation of the piping.
Installation not correctly levelled which will cause condensate
dripping.
Flattening or kinking the refrigerant pipes or condensate pipes.
Any obstruction of the unit air outlet or return.
Exposure to oil vapours.
Installation in areas with high frequency waves.

Hanging panel
Installing the hanging panel
Bear in mind the minimum space from the walls to the ceiling (see
minimum space).
Hold the fixing plate to the wall.
Level the plate with a plumb line or spirit level and mark the 4 holes
 to be made.
Drill and fix the plate to the wall (No. 4 anchors).
Check that the plate is fixed correctly (No. 4 screws) to prevent any
vibration.

The panel contains:
water shut-off valves with 3/4”female GAS threaded fitting for
connection to the water system;
thermo-electric valve piloted by the room thermostat control;
terminal board valve connection;
unit support chain; this permits the unit to be swung downwards
through 90°facilitating installation;
flexible pipes with threaded fitting for the unit hydraulic connection;
The system side hydraulic connections are made inside the
hanging panel, using the 3/4”female GAS threaded fitting of the
shut-off valves.
The unit is then connected to the valve group using the flexible
pipes supplied in the hanging panel.

 

NOTE:
Make certain the pipe insulation reaches as far as the valve.
The water fittings are fixed to the hanging panel structure to
prevent breakage when the pipes are connected; we advise
keeping the fittings still using a spanner.

Communicating AQUASMART control system
Wiring diagram
To the valve
The control system consists of two boards - HY-NEC and HY-NEC
(Prime). As an option it is possible to have a Room Controller or an
infrared remote control.
To facilitate maintenance operations and work times, all
Aquasmart controller connections have faston connections,
pre-wired in the factory.
The AQUASMART system is supplied in the following configurations:
•2 pipes version.
The controller senses the room temperature either via the
temperature sensor incorporated in the room control panel (CRC)
(if supplied) or via a temperature sensor incorporated in the return
air of the FAN COIL.

keep the room temperature at 23°C at the following conditions:
•Fan speed:automatic;
•Louvre: automatic.
After the controller operation has been restored, reset the switch
to the “normal”position.

The unit is factory-set to operate with the
infrared remote control.
To connect the Room Controller (CRC)
disconnect the connector of infrared remote
control (4 red wires) and substitute
it with the Room Controller connector
(orange/brown/blue wires).

Changeover sensor installation instructions
The changeover sensor is electrically connected in the unit
electric box.
During installation, the changeover sensor  has to be
located on the water inlet pipe,using the sensor holder clip 
and nylon clamps , after removing the existing insulation.





Make certain that changeover sensor is located on the primary
circuit (water-side before the valve).

Sensor
AQUASMART system consists of two sensors:
•Air sensor:
factory mounted close to the heat exchanger coil and electrically
connected (HY-NEC board).
•Changeover sensor:
electrically connected in the electric box (HY-NEC board).
The changeover sensor has to be positioned on the inlet water
pipe during installation (see page 9).
Electric valve and control
The unit control (AQUASMART) regulates the opening of the valve
according to the selected temperature.
Electrical connections
•Remove the electric box cover unscrewing the fixing screw.
•On the control panel connect the motorized valve cable (see figure).
•After connections have been completed, replace electric box cover.

Room Controller (CRC) - Infrared remote control
Configuration using the Room Controller or
the infrared remote control
Upon request, the unit can be equipped with an infrared remote
controller or with a wired “Room Controller”(CRC).
System configuration can be done either via the “System Manager”
or via the controls “Room Controller”or infrared remote control if
mounted.
With the Room Controller or infrared remote control the following
parameters can be selected:
•Unit type (Hi-Wall).
•Window Contact (normally open / normally closed).
•Boost / Heating function (only for heaters)
(not available).
•2 pipe / 4 pipe operation
(4 pipe not available).
•°C (Celsius), °F (Fahrenheit) temperature selection (for CRC only).
•Air sensor on CRC (ON)
•Air sensor on Fan Coil (OFF) (for CRC only).
Note:
To select these parameters, refer to the “Room Controller”or
infrared remote controller manual.
Window Contact
If the window contact is open for longer than one minute
the unit is enabled for “Frost protect”operation.The unit returns to
normal operation when the window contact is closed.
The window contact can be configured as follows:
NO Configuration (normally open) using the CRC or the infrared
remote control or System Manager.

NC Configuration (normally closed) using the CRC or the infrared
remote control or System Manager.
Contact closed - indicates window closed (normal operation).
Contact open - indicates window open (Frost protect operation).
System self-diagnosis
The control has diagnostics which automatically check system
integrity.
If a fault is found, the system is blocked and all functions are
disabled.
In this case, the LED on the HY-NEC board flashes (0.5 sec. ON,
0.5 sec.OFF), until the alarm condition is eliminated.
The monitoring system can be used to interpret the type of fault
according to the following table.

At this point the unit can be installed by completing the water and
electrical connections.
Hook the unit onto the hanging plate, using the lower hooks 햳and
chain 햴.
Finish making the water connections
If the installation is made using the panel with valves, connect the
flexible pipes to the coil pipes following the “inlet/outlet”
indications on the plate (IN/OUT plate on the pipes).
To ensure correct installation, it is important to make certain that
the 90° coupling on the flexible pipe is perpendicular to the unit
back when tightening this to the unit pipes.
If the installation is made using the panel without valves,
connect the system pipes to the coil pipes following the water
“inlet/outlet” indications (IN/OUT plate on the pipes).

Note:
Do not bend or crush the unit pipes.
Avoid tight bends with a radius of less than 100 mm.
Do not bend the pipe more than three times in the same place.
Do not excessively compress the insulation on the connection pipes
with clamps and tape.
Condensate drain pipe and other piping
Position the condensate drain pipe towards its hole in the panel
and ensure that this slopes towards the outside.
Connect this pipe to a suitable drain using PVC pipe.
The horizontal lengths between the indoor unit and the drain must
have a minimum slope of 2%.
Completing the electrical connections
Complete the electrical connections by connecting the unit wiring
connectors to the printed circuit (see the Electrical Connections
paragraph).
Check
Check that the system is filled with water and check the tightness of
all connections/fittings.
Finally wrap connections with anti-condensate insulation and
tighten with tape, without exerting great pressure on the insulation.
Repair and cover any possible cracks in the insulation.
Connection pipes and electric cables must be fixed to the wall
using appropriate conduits.
Carefully insulate the pipes close to the valve couplings to prevent
condensate from forming on them and possible dripping.

ATTENTION:
Before hanging the unit, position the chain by hooking it into
the hole provided.
Hook the unit onto the hanging panel.
Make sure the unit fits on the panel.
Tighten down screw on the panel to ensure safety.
If necessary, release the unit and proceed in reverse.
Pour water into the unit condensate pan and check that it flows
freely to the drain.
Air venting
The upper coil coupling has an air vent and drain valve, adjustable
with 8 and 12 mm spanners.
Air must be vented from the hydraulic circuit.To perform this
operation it is sufficient to use the valve on the coil.
This operation must be performed with the unit hanging on the
panel in a vertical position.
Draining
If the unit has to be removed, the water in the coil can be drained in
the following way:
•Un-hook the unit and position it in a horizontal position using the
chain and hooks;
•close the shut-off valves situated before the valve;
•to drain, open the air vent valve on the coil;
•slowly slacken the connection between the flexible pipe and the
coil pipe.
This operation permits partial coil draining; in any case, the quantity
of drained water is sufficient to guarantee removal of the unit
without any further water losses, when disconnecting the
connections between the flexible pipes and unit pipes.
Before removing the unit, we recommend closing the two unit pipes
with plugs to prevent the small amount of water left from running out
of the coil.
Unit installation
Thermo-electric valve operation
•This 3-way valve is of the ON/OFF type with very slow
movement.
It is not a modulation valve.This valve is controlled by the control
installed in the same room as the unit.
•The thermo-electric valve is normally closed towards the coil
and open towards the bypass route.
The valve opens in around 3 minutes circulating the water in the
coil.
•When the desired room temperature is reached, the valve
closes in around 3 minutes towards the coil and opens towards
the bypass.
The valve is factory-connected and no connection is therefore
needed.
 


Correct cleaning
•Turn the unit off and switch the mains supply off.
Use only a clean, damp and soapy cloth.
Do not pour any liquids on the unit.
Do not use flammable liquids, solvents or abrasive powders.
Keep heat sources away from the unit and do not place anything
hot on it: panels may be damaged.
The controller should only be cleaned with a dry cloth.
Before a long shutdown period
Clean the filters and reposition them in the unit. Run the unit in fan
only mode for a few hours to dry the inside.
Switch the electric mains supply OFF.
Clean the unit.
Optimum comfort and lowest consumption
Keep room temperature to comfort levels.
Do not open doors and windows more frequently than necessary.
In the cooling mode, avoid direct sun in the room: if possible, shut
curtains or shades.
Do not obstruct the air intake or outlet of the unit. Obstructions will
cause a reduction of the air quantity and the conditioning effect,
resulting in a unit malfunction.
Ensure that the air filters are clean
.
Ensure that the air distribution in the room is uniform by correctly
adjusting the air flow direction.

Troubleshooting
The air conditioner will not start:
•The main switch is switched off, place the switch in the ON position.
•The fuses on the main switch are burnt out;replace the fuses.
•The selected temperature is higher than the room temperature in
the cooling mode or lower in the heating mode (the thermostat
does not allow the unit to start).
The Room Controller display does not work:
•Incorrect connection of 12V - GND SIGNAL supply cables.
•Verify thatthe connections to+12V andto GNDare correctat theRoom
Controller and at the unit terminal board (refer to the wiring diagram).
•After having checked the supply, correct the problem at the wiring
and switch the supply on again.
The Room Controller display does not work:
•No power supply.
•Check if this is the main unit power supply.The HY-NEC board
must operate normally (red LED on).
•After having checked the Room Controller wiring, switch the
supply on again.
The unit does not work, even though the supply cables are
correctly connected:
•The Room Controller is damaged.
•Replace the Room Controller.
The air conditioner does not supply enough cooling (or heating):
•The air cannot circulate freely.
•The filter is dirty and reduces the air quantity circulating.
•Doors and/or windows are open.
•Fan speed has been set to “low”.
•The air flow direction is not correct for optimal cooling.
•The selected temperature is not correct.
•The water flow rate is insufficient.
•Air is present in the hydronic circuit.
•The solenoid valve does not open.
The unit will not start:
•No supply, the window contact is not connected or incorrectly
configured.
•Checkthesupply, connectorconfigure thewindowcontact correctly.
After inserting the batteries in the remote control, the display
does not illuminate:
•The batteries are exhausted or the polarity is incorrect; replace the
batteries or check polarity.
When pressing the start button, the unit does not acknowledge
the signal with a“beep”:
•The remote control batteries are exhausted;replace the batteries.
•The remote control has not been pointed correctly at the unit
receiver; turn the remote control off, and repeat the operation,
pointing the remote control in the correct direction.
•There are obstacles (curtains, partitions etc.) between the remote control
andthe unit;repeattheoperation afterhavingremovedthe obstacles.
•The receiver on the unit or the remote control is exposed to
intense sun radiation; avoid direct sunlight on the unit, draw
curtains or shut shades, or move the remote control.
•Signal transmission is obstructed by severe electromagnetic field
interference; avoid sending signals when computers or household
appliances(foodprocessors,coffeemakersetc.) areoperatingclose
by.Cellular orcordless telephonesmayalso interfere withthecontrol.
When pressing the stop button, the unit does not turn OFF and
does not acknowledge the signal with a “beep”:

curtains or shut shades, or move the remote control.

the unit emits a “beep”.
•There are obstacles (curtains, partitions etc.) between the remote
control and the unit; removed the obstacles, re-select the function
repeat the operation, pointing the remote control in the correct
direction and check that the unit emits a “beep”.
•The receiver on the unit or the remote control is exposed to
intense sun radiation; avoid direct sunlight on the unit, draw
curtains or shut shades, or move the remote control.
•Signal transmission is obstructed by severe electromagnetic field
interference; avoid sending signals when computers or household
appliances (food processors, coffee makers etc.) are operating
close by.Cellular or cordless telephones may also interfere with
the control.
The remote control display does not change when any button
is pressed:
•Thetrianglesymbol isON,whilstanothersignalis beingtransmitted;
wait for the signal to disappear and then repeat the operation.
A slight mist is emitted from the unit:
•This can occur during cooling operation and is due to the cool air
coming into contact with the room air.
A slight noise after unit start up or immediately after shut down:
•This is the water beginning to circulate.
The unit emits unpleasant smells:
•Thiscan becausedbysubstancesaccumulated ontheunit airfilters.
Switch the unit off, remove, clean and reinstall the filters.Restart the
unit in fan only mode and open the windows to change the room air.
The unit emits strange noises:
•Occasionally the unit makes strange noises at start-up, during
operation or after it has stopped.These are generally due to the
effect of temperature changes on the plastic components.
After having corrected possible faults,restart the air conditioner.
CAUTION: (units with electric heater):
