User Guide
General: CM-3 is a boundary microphone, where the hard
reflective surface it is placed on constitutes the boundary.
If the table is covered by a table cloth, place it on a dinner
plate, driver’s licence or other hard object. Place the
microphone(s) so distance to the participants is as evenly
distributed as possible. Daisy-chaining microphones is
accomplished by inserting Y-adaptors anywhere in the
link. Th e order of m icrophones and where they connect in
the chain does not matter.
Assistive listening Devices (ALD): A single microphone
can effectively be used on tables up to 12 feet in length
(Table 1). For longer tables, two microphones chained
together with a Y-adaptor and/or an extension cable may
be required. The KJ-10 extension permits two
microphones to be placed up to 16 feet apart (Table 2).
Digital Voice Recorders (DVR): DVRs and handheld
micro-cassette recorders may be connected as ALDs.
However, not all devices can power two microphones,
particularly those operating on a single 1.5 volt battery.
Computers: Practically all desktop and laptop computers
can power at least four m icrophones. However, it is
important that the chain starts with a KO-A sound card
adaptor inserted into the computer’s microphone input.
From there, Y-adaptors and extension cables may be
inserted in the m ost convenient order as shown in Table
3. If more than four microphones are required, we
recom mend using an automatic mixer to avoid possible
echo effects. The Audio Technica AT-MX341 four-channel
SmartMixer is available through Centrum Sound.
