Fourkeys(twohexagonalheadandtworoundhead)are
providedwitheachvehicle.Thehexagonal-headkey
operatestheignitionswitchandfrontdoorlocks.The
round-headkeyoperatesthelocksforthegloveboxand
rearcompartmentlid.
'Lockcylinders(excepttrunk)arefurnishedforservice
uncoded,thisnecessitatesthecodingofthesereplace-
mentlockcylinders.
NOTE:Inservice,thetrunkandglovebox
lockcylindersareprovidedtogetherwiththe
trunklockcylindercodedandtheglovebox
cylinderuncoded.
Thesidebartypelock(fig.18)isusedfortheignition,
frontdoorsandtrunk.Thegloveboxlockisofthewafer

infivedifferentdepths,indicatedbynumbers.
Thesidebarlockshavesixtumblerpositions,andin
lookingupthecuttingcode,thefollowingmaybeusedas
anexample.Afterkeycodenumberisdetermined,either
fromkeyorfromnumberstampedonlockcylinderrefer
toyourcodebookandrecordthekeycuttinginformation

keyflushwithedgeofthedrawing,headandpoint
carefullylinedup.
2. Readthecodeinnumbers12345fromtheheadofthe
keytotheendfrompositions1 to6 inclusive.As
eachdepthisdeterminedwritethatnumberinthe
blankspaceprovidedabovethepositionnumbers
(1-2-3-4-5-6).
3. Withkeyproperlylinedupondiagram,allcutsthat
showinthefirstsectionaremarked "1" J
4. Cutsthatfallinthefirstblacksection,mark"2".

LockCylinderAssembly—RefertoFigure20
1. Holdcylinderwithheadofcylinderawayandstarting
•...attheheadofthecylinder,insertthetumblersin
theirproperslotsintheordercalledforbythe
code,ribbedsidetowardyouandlongpointdown.
2. Afteralltumblersareinplace,checkforcorrect-
nesswiththecode.Thenpresstumblersdownwith
onefinger.
3. Insertonetumblerspringinthespaceprovided
aboveeachtumbler.
CAUTION:Ifthespringsaretangled,donot
pullthemapart—unscrewthem.
4. Reversethelockcylindersothattheheadofthe
cylinderisnowtowardyou.Insertthespringre-
tainersothatoneofitssixprongsentersintoeach
ofthespringsandthetwolargeendprongsslideinto
theslotsateitherendofthecylinder.Pressthe
retainerdownwithonefinger.
5.Tocheck,insertproperkeyandiftumblersarein-
stalledproperlythesidebarwillbeallowedtodrop
down.Ifbardoesnotdropdown,removethekey,
springretainer,springsandtumblersandreas-
semblecorrectly.
NOTE: Ifthetumblershavenotbeenassembled
correctlyandnotaccordingtothecode,the
tumblerscanberemovedfromthecylinderby
holdingitwiththetumblerslotsdown,pulling
thesidebaroutwiththefingersandjarringthe
cylindertoshakethetumblersout.Thispro-
cedureisnecessarybecauseafterthetumblers
havebeenpresseddownintothecylinderthey
areheldintheirslotsbythecrossbar.
6.Ifaftercheckingitisfoundthatthelockisas-
sembledproperly,removekeyandplacecylinderin

celeratingintotowcar.
AUTOMATICTRANSMISSION
Donotattempttostarttheenginebypushingthecar.
Shouldthebatterybecomedischarged,itwillbeneces-
sarytouseanauxiliarybatterywithjumpercablesto
starttheengine.
CAUTION:Topreventdamagetoelectrical
system,neverconnectboosterbatteriesinex-
cessof12voltsandconnectpositivetopositive
andnegativetonegative.
ManualTransmission
Whena pushstartisnecessaryturnoffallelectrical
loadssuchasheater,radio,andifpossible,lights,turn
onthekey,depresstheclutch,andplacetheshiftlever
inhighgear.Releasetheclutchwhenyourspeedreaches
10to15milesperhour.
TOWING
Thecarmaybetowedsafelyonitsrearwheelswith
the(selectorleverin"N"(Neutral)positionatspeeds
of35milesperhourorlessundermostconditions.
However,thedriveshaftmustbedisconnectedorthe
cartowedonitsfrontwheelsif1)Towspeedsinexcess
of35MPHarenecessary,2)Carmustbetowedforex-
tendeddistances(over50miles)or,3)Transmissionis
notoperatingproperly.Ifcaristowedonitsfront
wheels,thesteeringwheelshouldbesecuredtomaintain
astraightaheadposition.

barsothatwhenthevehicleisraisedtherubberstraps
protectthefrontvalancepanel(fig.24).Cautionshould
beexercisedwhenattachingthelowerliftingbarthatthe
