IMPORTANT:
Where temperatures are consistently
above +32" F.
Suitable for year long operation in
many parts of the
U.S.;
may be used
where temperatures occasionally drop
as
low
as
-10"
F.
Recommended where minimum tem-
peratures are consistently below
+IO"F.
Where temperatures are consistently
above +32" F.
Where temperatures range between
+32"F.
and -10°F.
If the vehicle is to be used for maxi-
mum performance service (very high speed or very
rapid acceleration), the engine requires heavier than
normal lubricating oil. This is due to the high
speeds, loads, and temperature of moving parts de-
veloped in these engines during this type of
operation.
FOR BEST PROTECTION OF THE ENGINE
UNDER THESE CONDITIONS THE HEAVIEST
AVAILABLE ENGINE OIL OF SD OR SE
QUALITY SHOULD BE USED THAT WILL
PERMIT SATISFACTORY COLD STARTING.
SAE
30
AND
40
ARE RECOMMENDED; MUL-
TI-VISCOSITY OILS SAE

MAY ALSO BE USED. IT IS ALSO RE-
COMMENDED THAT A ONE PINT CONTAIN-
ER OF CHRYSLER PARTS HIPERFORM-
ANCE OIL ADDITIVE, SULFURIZED ESTER,
PART NUMBER
3683842
OR EQUIVALENT, BE
ADDED TO THE CRANKCASE AT EVERY
ENGINE OIL CHANGE IN ADDITION TO
THE REGULAR CRANKCASE ENGINE OIL
FILL.
MATERIALS ADDED
TO
ENGINE
OILS
It is not necessary to add any materials to crank-
case oils for most types of service. In order to pro-
vide optimum engine component protection in high
performance engines equipped with four-barrel and
three two-barrel carburetors; it is recommended that
one pint of Chrysler Parts Hi Performance Oil
Additive, Sulfurized Ester, Part Number
3683842
or
equivalent, be added at every oil change. It is
strongly recommended that this additive be added
to the initial oil
fill
of these engines to aid break-in
following engine overhaul and/or new piston
installation. This material may be used in any
engine, but its use in high performance engines is
strongly recommended.
FREQUENCY OF ENGINE
OIL
CHANGES
The by products
of
combustion, such as unburned
fuel, condensation and carbon deposits, in addition
to dust and other abrasive materials, tend to con-
taminate engine oil. If permitted to remain in the
crankcase for too great a period of time, the con-
taminants reduce the lubricating qualities of the oil
causing excessive wear which can materially affect
the operating efficiency of the engine.
To provide maximum protection to engine parts, it
is recommended that engine oil be drained and re-
plenished with new oil of the proper viscosity and
API classification as follows:
NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS
-
The
engine oil should be changed every three months or
four thousand miles, whichever occurs first.
SEVERE OPERATING CONDITIONS
-
Fre-
quent driving on dusty roads, in sandy geographic
areas, or unusually short trip driving in cold weath-
er may require oil changes more often than every
three months. Under these conditions, consult and
follow the advice of any Chrysler Motors Corpora-
tion Authorized Dealer's Service Manager.
SINE
-
For police and limousine vehicles used prin-
cipally for highway type service (police highway pa-
trol operation or limousine service of
25
miles or
more between stations) oil should be changed every
three months or
4,000
miles, whichever occurs first.
Change oil filter every other oil change.
For police, taxi and limousine vehicles used princi-
pally for urban type operation which usually in-
volves short trip operation and prolonged or fre-
quent periods of idling, oil should be changed every
two months or
2,000
miles, whichever occurs first.
Change oil filter at each oil change.
When draining the old oil, it is recommended that
the engine be at normal operating temperature, as
the warmed oil will drain more readily and carry
with it foreign matter which might otherwise cling
to the sides of the crankcase and the various mov-
ing parts.
FLEET SERVICE
-
POLICE, TAXI, LIMOU-
During
Breok-In
Cars should be driven moderately during the first
300
miles. Speeds up to
50
to
60
mph are desirable.
While cruising, brief full-throttle accelerations con-
tribute to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle accel-
erations in low gear can be detrimental and should
be avoided for at least
500
miles.
The crankcase oil installed in the engine at the
factory is a high quality lubricant, and
should
be
retained
until the first regularly scheduled three-
month or 4,000-mile oil change, whichever occurs
