OVERVIEW
TheComcastCustom3-Deviceuniversal
remotewill control up tothree home
entertainmentdevices,includingaCable
Box(usedbyComcastSystems),aTV, a
VCR, an Audio Amplifier or Receiver, a
DVDplayer,oraPVR.
Theremotecontrolrequiresinstalling
two(2)newAAbatteries(included)and
someeasyprogrammingtocontrolyour
devices. Forbestresults,pleasereadand
performall instructionslistedhere.Also,
keepthis guideforfuturereference.
INSTALLING BATTERIES
1. Pullbacktheremotecontrol’s
batterycoverand removeit.
2. Insertthetwo(2)supplied
AAbatteriesaccordingtothe+
and
-
marksinthebattery case.
3. Pushthe battery coverback
intoplace.
4. Test the unitby pressingany
modekey(i.e.,AUX,TV,orCable).
If batteriesare insertedcorrectly,
theselectedmode keywill light.
NOTE:When batteriesneed replacement,the
remotecontrolwillstopoperating.Replace
theold batteries and the unitwillbe restored
toits full functionality, complete with your
favoritesettings.
FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS
Usetheremotecontrol’smodekeys(i.e.,
AUX,TV,orCable) to controla specific
device.Whenpressed,theselectedmode
keywilllight,confirmingyourchoice.
Usetheotherkeysto performdesired
actions(seethefollowingkeychart).
NOTE:The selectedmode will remainactive
untilyoupressanothermodekey.
Press AUX,TV,orCable

PROGRAMMING
DEVICE CONTROL
TheComcastCustom3-Deviceuniversal
remotecontrol is preprogrammed at the
factorytooperatethe CableBoxsupplied
byyourComcastsystem,an RCATV,and
anRCAVCR(intheAUX mode).To con-
troldevices other thandefaultbrands
(excluding the CableBox),performthe
belowsteps;otherwise skip this section:
1. Turnona device (e.g.,VCRor
DVDPlayer) and,if applicable,
insertmedia, (e.g.,video cassette
ordisc).
NOTE:Please readsteps2 to 6completely
beforeproceeding.Highlightorwrite
down the codes and device you wishto
programbeforemoving on tostep2.
2. Ontheremotecontrol,pressa
devicekeyonce(i.e.,AUX orTV).
NOTE:UsetheAUX key to program
controlof anAudioAmplifier or
Receiver, a DVD Player,a Home-
Theater-In-A-Box Device,aPVR (or
DVR),oraVCR.
3. Pressand holdSetup until the
selectedmodekeyblinks twice,
thenreleaseSetup.
4. Locatethe code foryourdevicein
Manufacturer’s Codes onthe back
of this userguide. Brands arelisted
inalphabeticalorderwith the most
popularcodeslistedfirst.
5. Enterthe first four-digitcodefor
yourdevice.If youperform this
procedure correctly,the selected
modekeywill blinktwice.
NOTE:If you enteran invalid code,the
selectedmodekey willdisplayonelong
blinkandexitthe programming mode.
Repeatsteps2 to5 witha validcode.
6. Aimtheremotecontrolat your
device and pressPower once.The
deviceshouldturnoff.If itdoes
notrespond,repeatsteps2 to 6,
trying eachcodelistedforyour
branduntilyoufind one that
works.If it still doesnot work,try
SearchingForYourCode.
NOTE:If the device doesnot have a
Power key,press the (Play)key.

SEARCHING FOR YOUR CODE
If your homeentertainment devicedoes
notrespond tothe remote controlafter
trying allof the codeslisted foryour
brand,or if yourbrand is notlisted at all,
try searchingforyourcode.
Forexample,after trying all of thecodes
foryourTV,youstill cannotget the
remotecontroltooperateyourTV,then:
1. TurnonyourTV.
2. Ontheremotecontrol,pressTV
once.Then pressand holdSetup
untiltheTV keyblinkstwice,then
releaseSetup.
3. Enter9- 9- 1.TheTV key will
blinktwice.
4. Aimtheremotecontrolatthe the
TVandslowly alternatebetween
pressing Power andTV.
Stopwhen the TVturnsoff.A
workingcode has beenfound.
NOTE:Inthesearchmode,theremote
controlwillsendIR codes fromits
libraryto the selecteddevice,starting
withthemost popularcode first.
5. PressSetup once tolock inthe
code.The TV keywillblinktwice.
6. To search for the codesof another
device,repeatsteps1to5,but sub-
stitute theAUX keyfortheauxiliary
deviceyouaresearchingfor.
CHECKING THE CODES
If you haveset up theremote control
usingthe SearchingForYourCode
procedure,youmayneedtofind out
which four-digit code isoperatingyour
equipment.Performthefollowingsteps
aftersettingupyourdevicesto findout
which four-digit code operates your
equipment.Forexample,to find out
whichcodeisoperatingyourTV:
1. TurnonyourTV.
2. Ontheremotecontrol,pressTV
once.Then pressand holdSetup
untiltheTV keyblinkstwice,then
releaseSetup.
3. Enter9- 9- 0.TheTV key will
blinktwice.
4. To viewthecodeforthefirstdigit,
press1once. Wait3 secondsand
countthe numberof times the TV
keyblinks (e.g.,3blinks= 3) and
writedownthenumberintheleft-
most TV Codebox (atend of this
section).
NOTE:If a code digit is“0”, theselected
modekey will not blink.
5. Repeatstep4threemoretimes for
theremainingdigits.Use2forthe
seconddigit,3forthe thirddigit,
and4forthe fourth digit.Finish
writingdownthecodeintheTV
Code boxes (at endof this section).
6. Tocheckanotherdevicecode,
repeatsteps1to5,butsubstitute
theAUX keyforthe auxiliary
deviceyouarechecking.Write
downthe codesin the appropriate
boxes below:

CHANGING VOLUME LOCK
TheComcastCustom3-Deviceuniversal
remote controlissetatthefactory to
control the TV volumeinallmodes.
However,youmaychangetheVolume
LocksettingtoIndividual Volume Unlock
tounlocka specific device’s volumecon-
trolsforindependentoperationin its
ownmode(e.g.,AudioReceivervolume
controls in the AUX mode).
Or,ifdesired,youcanperformGlobal
Volume Unlock so thatthevolumecon-
trolsof all devices canbe independently
operatedintheirownmodes.
Unlocking Volume Control For A
Single Device (Individual Volume
Unlock):
1. Pressa desiredmode keywhere
youwantvolumeto be unlocked
(e.g.,AUX)and controlledwithin
itsownmode.
2. Pressand holdSetup until the
selectedmodekeyblinks twice,
thenreleaseSetup.
3. Enter9- 9- 3andthenpressVOL-
once.The mode keywillblinkfour
timesconfirmingunlock.
4. If desired, repeat steps 1 to3 (of
thissection) foreachdevice that
youwantvolumeto beunlocked.
5. Now,afteryouselecta device that
hasvolumeunlocked (e.g.,AUX),
pressing VOL+,VOL-,orMute,will
control the device’svolumeonlyin
itsownmode.
Unlocking All Volume Controls
(Global Volume Unlock):
1. Pressand holdSetup until the
selectedmodekeyblinks twice,
thenreleaseSetup.
2. Enter9- 9- 3andthenpressVOL+
once.The mode keywillblinkfour
timesconfirmingunlock.
3. Now,volumecontrolsforall
devicescanbe independently
controlled in their ownmodes.
Locking Volume Control To TV Mode
(Restoring Global Volume Lock To
The Default Mode):
1. PressTV once.Then,press and
holdSetup untiltheTV key blinks
twice,thenreleaseSetup.
2. Enter9- 9- 3andthenpressTV
once.Themodekey will blink
twiceconfirminggloballock.
3. Now,whenyoupressVOL+,VOL-,
orMute,the volumeof the selected
device(e.g.,TV)will be controlled
regardlessof the mode you have
selected.
REASSIGNING DEVICE KEYS
The ComcastCustom3-Device universal
remotecontrolcan be setuptocontrol a
seconddevice.
Forexample,tohavethe unit controla
TV,aCableBox,andsecondTV,youwill
needtoreassigntheunusedAUX key to
operatethe secondTV as follows:
1. Ontheremotecontrol,pressAUX
once.Then pressand holdSetup
untiltheAUX keyblinkstwice,
thenreleaseSetup.
2. Enter9- 9- 2.TheAUX key will
blinktwice.
3. PressTV once,then press AUX once.
TheAUX keywill blink twice.
4. TheAUX keyisnowreadyto be
programmedfor yoursecondTV.
SeeProgrammingDeviceControl
forinstructions.
PROGRAMMING CHANNEL
CONTROL LOCK
Bydefault,theremotecontrol’s channel-
control capabilitiesarelockedto the
CableBox. Theaffectedkeysare 0 ~ 9,
CH+,CH-,Enter,andLast.
Thiswill guaranteethat youdonot
inadvertently changea channel while in
theTV mode.However,youcan turnoff
this featureto allow full accessto these
keysin the TV and Cable modes.
NOTE:This featuredoesnotaffectthe AUX mode.
De-Activating Channel Control Lock
1. Ontheremotecontrol,pressCable
once.Then pressand holdSetup
untiltheCable keyblinkstwice,
thenreleaseSetup.
2. Enter9- 7- 3.PressCH- once.The
Cable keywillblinkfourtimes.
3. Now,theremotecontrolwill
provideTV or cable channel
control capabilitieswhile in the
TV orCable mode.
Re-Activating Channel Control Lock
1. Ontheremotecontrol,pressCable
once.Then pressand holdSetup
untiltheCable keyblinkstwice,
thenreleaseSetup.
2. Enter9- 7- 3.PressCH+ once.
TheCable keywill blink twice.
3. Now,regardlessif you select theTV
orCable mode,onlythechannel
control capability of your cable
boxwill be accessible.
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM: Amode keydoes not
blinkwhenyoupress
akey.
SOLUTION: Replacethebatterieswith
two(2) newAA batteries.
PROBLEM: Duringprogramming,a
modekeydisplaysone
longblink.
SOLUTION: An invalidentry has
occurred.Checkthekey
tobe enteredand try
programmingagain.
PROBLEM: Amodekeyblinkswhen
youpressakey,buthome
entertainmentcomponent
does not respond.
SOLUTION: Makesuretheremote
control isaimedatyour
homeentertainment
deviceandis not farther
than15feetaway.
PROBLEM: Theremotecontroldoes
notcontrolhome enter-
tainmentdevices orthe
commandsare not work-
ingproperly.
SOLUTION: Tryall listedcodesforthe
devicebrandsbeing
setup. Make surethey
can be operatedwith an
infrared remote control.
PROBLEM: CH+,CH-,andLast
donotworkforyour
RCATV.
SOLUTION: Due to RCAdesign(1983-
1987),onlytheoriginal
remote control will
operatethese functions.
PROBLEM: Changingchannels does
notworkproperly.
SOLUTION: If original remote control
required pressing Enter
tochange channels,also
pressEnter on this remote
controlafterenteringthe
channel number.
