4 Notes on operating the camera
zThe camera is operated at 12V DC.
zThe camera is designed for use with CS-mount lenses. A C/CS-mount adapter ring
(5 mm) is required for use with C-mount lenses. Note the lens type before using it. When
using C-mount lenses without an adapter ring, the camera could be damaged. This
applies especially for the sensor.
zLenses with DC control can be used for automatic iris control. Video signal-controlled
lenses are not supported.
zIf the camera or the cables connected to the camera are located near sources of strong
radiation, the video picture may be distorted.
zThe camera is equipped with automatic gain control (AGC). In low light the picture may
be altered (e.g. noise). This is not a camera malfunction.
zThe quality of the video picture depends on the lighting and the monitor used to display
the video picture.
zAutomatic white balance depends on the lighting used and can cause color distortions in
artificial light.
zPoor lighting can lead to faulty white balance.

6 Installation and commissioning
6.1 Requirements at the installation site
The camera is designed for indoor use. If used outdoors, the camera has to be mounted
into a corresponding weather-proof housing.
Unfavorable local conditions may shorten the life of the product or lead to malfunctions.
Do not install/operate the camera in places:
zwith large scale dust and dirt
zwith steam or oil vapors (e.g. kitchen)
zwith direct sunlight
zwith improper ambient temperatures (see technical data)
znear sources of strong radiation (i.e. X-rays, radio transmitters or magnetic fields)
zwith corrosive surroundings (e.g. gases or salt water).
6.2 Attaching the lens
MLens
NLens thread
IMPORTANT
Possible damage to the sensor.
The length of the lens thread plus any protruding parts must
not exceed 5 mm (L).
If using a C-mount lens, you have to screw a C/CS-mount
adapter ring (5 mm) between the lens and the camera.
L= max. 5 mm
MN
Fig.6-1

DF3000AXS
15Dallmeier electronic
NOTE
The camera is by default configured for use with DC auto iris
lenses.
If using a lens with manual iris control, you have to reconfigure
the camera accordingly (see section 8.1).
Video signal-controlled lenses are not supported.
IMPORTANT
Possible damage to the sensor caused by improper cleaning.
Only use approved methods and products for sensor cleaning.
For more information please contact the Dallmeier support.
¾Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
¾Screw the lens carefully into the CS lens mount (D).
¾If using a DC auto iris lens, connect the lens cable to the DC auto iris interface (I).
6.3 Adjusting the back focus
The back focus is the distance between the lens support on the camera and the image
sensor. Optimum focus is only possible when the correct distance is set.
Itmaybenecessaryto adjust the back focus inindividualcasesduetoproductiontolerances
of the lens. The iris of the lens must be open as wide as possible (smallest iris value) to
adjust the back focus.
For lenses with automatic iris control, you will require a ND filter (gray filter) to prevent the
iris from closing in bright light.
Adjustment for lenses with a fixed focal distance
If the focus cannot be set exactly by turning the focus ring (lens), please proceed as follows:
1Point the camera at an object with sufficient contrast. The distance to the object should
be greater than 1000 x the focal distance.
2Open the iris on the lens.
3Set the distance at the lens to infinity (∞).
4Loosen the locking screw (B) on the camera with an adequate Allen wrench.
5Turn the back focus adjustment ring (D) until the optimum focus is achieved.
6Tighten the locking screw (B).

DF3000AXS
16Dallmeier electronic
Adjustment for lenses with a variable focal distance (zoom)
If the focus changes as the focal distance changes, please proceed as follows:
1Point the camera at an object with sufficient contrast at a distance of approx. 2 m.
2Open the iris on the lens.
3Set the maximum focal distance (tele end) at the lens.
4Set the optimum focus with the focus ring.
5Set the smallest focal distance (wide end).
6Loosen the locking screw (B) on the camera with an adequate Allen wrench.
7Turn the back focus adjustment ring (D) until the optimum focus is achieved.
You may need to repeat steps 3, 4, 5, and 7 several times to obtain the best results.
8Tighten the locking screw (B).
6.4 Installation and commissioning
The camera has a ¼’’ tripod socket located on the top and bottom side.
IMPORTANT
Possible damage to the camera caused by inappropriate
mounting equipment.
The length of the tripod screw must not exceed 7 mm.
IMPORTANT
Possibledamageto thecameracausedby incorrect installation.
Pay attention to the manufacturer’s documentation when
installing the camera into a weather-proof housing.
CAUTION
Danger of injury from camera falling down.
Before initial startup, ensure that the camera is securely
mounted.
¾Mount the camera on a wall/ceiling bracket or on a pan/tilt head etc. using the ¼’’tripod
socket (C) and an appropriate tripod screw.
WARNING
Danger of death from lightning strike.
Do not connect/disconnect the video cable during a
thunderstorm.

DF3000AXS
17Dallmeier electronic
¾Connect the video output (G) via video cable (coaxial) to the monitor.
WARNING
Danger of death from electric shock.
Disconnectthepowersupplyunitfromthemainssocketbefore
connecting the camera.
IMPORTANT
Possible damage to the camera caused by an inadequate po-
wer supply unit.
If used in North America, you must use a UL-certified, limited-
power Class 2 power supply unit (12V DC / 0.42A).
NOTE
Thecamerais provided with internalinverse-polarityprotection.
¾Connect the camera via 12V DC input terminal (E) to the power supply unit.
¾Connect the power supply unit to the mains socket.
The Power LED (H) illuminates and the camera is ready for operation
