servicing this product.
The manufacturer will not accept liability for any resulting damages caused by the non-observance of

After unpacking, examine the contents of the box. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact your

Intended Use
This device is intended for use as a ceiling speaker. The device is suitable for fixed permanent installation
in commercial and public spaces. It can be installed indoors. Any incorrect use may lead to hazardous
situations and result in injuries and material damage.
Any other use, not mentioned under intended use, is regarded as non-intended and incorrect use.
Text Conventions
Throughout the user manual the following text conventions are used:
●References: References to chapters and parts of the device are in bold lettering, for example:

DANGER
Danger for children
For adult use only. The device must be installed beyond the reach of children.
●Do not leave various parts of the packaging (plastic bags, polystyrene foam, nails, etc.) within
children’s reach. Packaging material is a potential source of danger for children.
Attention
Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may result in hazardous situations
This device is delivered with an AC power adapter. Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may
result in hazardous situations.
●Use only the AC power adapter delivered with the device.
●Do not wrap the power cable around the power adapter or any other object. This can damage the
internal wires.
●Do not cover the power adapter with anything when it is plugged into the socket-outlet. This may
cause overheating.
●Do not expose the power adapter to water or other liquids.
Do not use the power adapter:
●If it shows signs of overheating, for example the plastic is damaged
●If the AC input pins show signs of corrosion or overheating
●If the power cable is damaged or shows signs of material fatigue.
Attention
General safety
●Do not shake the device. Avoid brute force when installing or operating the device.
●If the device is dropped or struck, disconnect the device from the electrical power supply
immediately.
●If the device is exposed to extreme temperature variations (e.g. after transportation), do not switch it
on immediately. Let the device reach room temperature before switching it on, otherwise it may be
damaged by the formed condensation.
●If the device fails to work properly, discontinue the use immediately.

●This device does not contain user-serviceable parts. Unauthorized modifications to the device will
render the warranty void. Such modifications may result in injuries and material damage.
Attention
Do not expose the device to conditions that exceed the rated IP class conditions.
This device is IP20 rated. IP (Ingress Protection) 20 class provides protection against solid objects greater
than 12 mm, such as fingers, and no protection against harmful ingress of water.
Requirements for the User
This product may be used by ordinary persons. Maintenance may be carried out by ordinary persons.
Service and installation shall be carried out only by instructed or skilled persons. Contact your Highlite
International dealer for more information.
Instructed persons have been instructed and trained by a skilled person, or are supervised by a skilled
person, for specific tasks and work activities associated with the installation, service and maintenance of
this product, so that they can identify risks and take precautions to avoid them.
Skilled persons have training or experience, which enables them to recognize risks and to avoid hazards
associated with the installation, service and maintenance of this product.
Ordinary persons are all persons other than instructed persons and skilled persons. Ordinary persons
include not only users of the product but also any other persons that may have access to the device or
who may be in the vicinity of the device.

3. Description of the Device
The DAP WCSS-230 G2 is a set of two 6,5-inch ceiling speakers. The active speaker has an integrated 2 x
30 W class D amplifier and is equipeed with an SMPS. The device has a volume limiter that limits the
output to 50 % (2 x 15 W).
The device can be used for streaming of music via ethernet and Wi-Fi. The device can be paired via Wi-Fi
with any Android or iOS device. The device can be used in multi-room setups. It can also be connected
to wired audio sources.
The device can be used with the SmartSonix app (available for iOS and Android). The app can be used
for streaming of music from any music platform.

4. Installation
Safety Instructions for Installation
WARNING
Incorrect installation can cause serious injuries and damage of property.
●Make sure that the ceiling can hold the weight of the device.
●Make sure that the installation location on the ceiling is free of any obstructions and the speaker
cables do not come in contact with other objects.
Installation Site Requirements
●The device can be only used indoors.
●The device can be mounted on a ceiling.
●The maximum ambient temperature ta= 45 °C must never be exceeded.
●The relative humidity must not exceed 50 % with an ambient temperature of 45 °C.
Installation
Attention
Connect all cables before installation.
To mount the device, you need:
●Cutting saw
●Pencil
●Drill bits
●Power drill
To install the device, follow the steps below:
Cut out mounting openings on the ceiling. See 4.3.1. Cutting Out a Mounting Opening on page 11.
Connect the passive speaker. See 4.3.2. Connecting the Passive Speaker on page 12.
Set the signal type. See 4.3.3. Setting the Signal Type on page 12.
Set the volume limiter. See 4.3.4. Setting the Volume Limiter on page 12.
Connect a line-level device (optional). See 4.3.5. Connecting Line-level Devices on page 13.
Connect the power adapter to the active speaker.
Connect the power adapter to the power supply. See 4.3.6. Connecting to Power Supply on page
14.
Install the speakers in the mounting openings. See 4.3.7. Installing the Speaker on page 15.

Cutting Out a Mounting Opening
Before cutting out a mounting opening, make sure that there is at least 100 mm of free space behind the
ceiling. If there is not enough free space, it is not possible to mount the speaker.
01) Remove the outer ring from the supplied cutout template (Ø 209 mm).
02) Hold the cutout template against the ceiling and mark the speaker location (Fig. 07).

03) Drill a pilot hole in the ceiling.
04) Use a cutting saw to cut out a mounting opening (Fig. 08).

Connecting the Passive Speaker
Use signal cables to connect the 2-pin terminal connector OUT (12) of the active speaker to the 2-pin
terminal connector IN (16) of the passive speaker. Make sure that the cable polarity is correct (+/-)
(Fig. 09).

Setting the Signal Type
You can set the signal type (mono or stereo).
●Set the stereo/mono switch (10) to STEREO when the passive speaker is connected.
●Set the stereo/mono switch (10) to MONO when the passive speaker is not connected.
Setting the Volume Limiter
You can activate the volume limiter. When the volume limiter is active, the total output (2 x 30 W) will be
limited to 50 % (2 x 15 W).
Set the volume limiter switch (11) to LIMITER ENABLED to activate the volume limiter.

Connecting Line-level Devices
You can connect the speakers to line-level devices (e.g. an amplifier or a media player). If you want to
use the speakers only to stream music, you do not need to read this chapter.
To connect the speakers to a line-level device, follow the steps below:
Connect the RCA line-level connector IN (09) (-) of the active speaker to the (-) output of an
amplifier or other device.
02) Connect the RCA line-level connector IN (09) (+) of the active speaker to the (+) output of an
amplifier or other device.

Connecting to Power Supply
Attention
Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may result in hazardous situations
This device is delivered with an AC power adapter. Incorrect handling of the AC power adapter may
result in hazardous situations.
Use only the AC power adapter delivered with the device.
To connect the power adapter to the device:
●Connect the delivered Schuko to IEC cable to the delivered AC power adapter.
●Connect the AC power adapter to the 24 V DC power connector IN (13)on the active speaker.
Attention
Power supply
Before connecting the device to the power supply, make sure that the current, voltage and frequency
match the input voltage, current and frequency specified on the information label on the device.
To connect the active speaker to the power supply, follow the steps below:
Connect the Schuko plug of the AC power adapter to the socket-outlet. The status LED indicator (02) will
rapidly flash red.

Installing the Speaker
Attention
Connect all cables before installation.
Make sure that all devices are connected and all settings are correct before installing the speaker on the
ceiling.
To install the speaker, follow the steps below:
Insert the installation tool, delivered with the device, into each of the 4 dog-leg buttons (01) and
push. The dog legs (15) will lock (Fig. 11).

02) Insert the speaker into the mounting opening (Fig. 12).

03) Press the dog-leg buttons (01) to unlock the dog legs (15). The dog legs (15) hold the device in
position (Fig. 13).

04) Attach the speaker grill, delivered with the device, to the speaker. The magnets in the speaker rim
hold the speaker grill in position (Fig.14).

Note:
It is possible to spray-paint the speaker grill, to match the color of the ceiling.
Before spray-painting, remove the protective cloth from the speaker-grill.

5. Setup
Stand-alone Setup
The WCSS-230 G2 WiFi Speaker functions as a stand-alone device. It can be operated manually or with
an infrared (IR) remote control.
Network Connection
Use the SmartSonix app to pair your streaming device with the active speaker. The active speaker will
play audible messages informing you about the pairing status.
The active speaker can be connected to streaming devices with a wireless module (Wi-Fi) or with a
network cable (LAN).
See 5.2.1. Wi-Fi Connection on page 17 or 5.2.2. LAN Connection on page 19 for more information.
Wi-Fi Connection
To pair the streaming device with the active speaker using the wireless module start the SmartSonix app
and follow the steps below:
01) Select ADD DEVICE.
02) Select SETTINGS.

03) Select the speaker on the list of available
networks.
04) In the SmartSonix app, select your network and
enter the password in the PASSWORD field.
05) Select CONTINUE to confirm the password.
The speaker is connected to the network.
06) Select NEXT to confirm.

07) Select CUSTOM (to enter a custom name) or
one of the many preset names.
08) Select NEXT to confirm. The SmartSonix app is
configured.
You can now use the SmartSonix app to stream music via various streaming services.
LAN Connection
If the active speaker is connected to your router with a network cable, internet access is automatic. No
further actions are necessary.
