INSTALLATION
All DH/DW Series heaters are designed with ARL (Applied Research Lab) Approval for over the
blower installation ONLY. Under no circumstances should a heater be installed in another location.
These heaters are designed for zero clearance to combustible material. A minimum clearance of
one inch must be maintained on all sides of the heater and supply duct work for a minimum of
three feet. DH/DW Series heaters are not intended for outdoor use.
MOUNTING OF THE HEATER
Arrow decals affixed to the electrical components access door of the DH/DW Series heater must
be followed. These arrows indicate the correct direction of air flow through the heater as well as
providing pertinent mounting instructions.
The heater is installed by attachment to the flanges on the dehumidifier’s discharge air opening
(supply side). It is recommended that mounting be done with #8 sheet metal screws through
both flanges of the heater and dehumidifier. Special care must be taken to avoid drilling through
any electrical components, thus avoiding damage to the unit. If support is needed under the
heater, it can be suspended from angle iron brackets using threaded rods of sufficient length.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Electrical wiring must comply with all National, State and Local codes. Locate and read the
electrical rating plate on the heater to confirm that the voltage requirements match the available
power source. A disconnect device of sufficient capacity must be installed within sight of the
heater.
Consult the electrical wiring diagram, located on the inside of the electrical compartment access
panel, to make wiring connections during the installation of the heater.

WIRE SIZE
The main power supply wire diameter must be determined by the listed minimum ampacity as
found on the rating plate. An uninterrupted ground source must be provided to prevent possible
injury. The grounding wire diameter must be the same as or larger than the supply wire diameter.
Failure to properly ground the heater will void the warranty. (Refer to the amperage rating chart
below).

AMPERAGE RATING CHART
LOW VOLTAGE CONNECTIONS
All low voltage wiring must be done using 18 gauge wire. A low voltage terminal strip is provided
in the heater and is marked with the terminals of the DESERT AIRE unit.
Example: IH, PD Series, connections will be terminals #2 and #4.
WC Series, connections will be terminals #2 and #3.
No other relay or transformer is needed to connect the heater to the dehumidifier. Limits and air
flow interlocks are also built into the heater to provide safety if the air flow has been interrupted.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
UNIT WILL NOT OPERATE
Thermostat system switch is set to the cooling mode. Set the system switch to the “automatic”
mode position.
There is no main power. - Check for tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse.
Controls are stuck in the open position. - Repair or replace the controls.
Electrical element is open. - Replace the element.
The limit switch is open. - Replace the limit switch.
The blower is not operating. - Check the blower for correct operation.
LIMITED WARRANTY
DESERT AIRE CORP. warrants each DH/DW Series Electric Discharge Mounted Heater against
defects in materials and/or workmanship for a period of 90 days from the date of installation.
Should any evidence of defects in materials and/or workmanship occur during the warranty
period, DESERT AIRE CORP. will repair or replace the unit without charge at DESERT AIRE’s
discretion.
DESERT AIRE CORP. will not be held responsible for any labor charges involved in the removal
or replacement of the defective equipment or any consequential damages.
Any modifications of the original equipment or changes to the internal wiring of the electric heater
VOIDS ALL WARRANTY and responsibility of DESERT AIRE CORP.
