SBP8A PREPARATION
Getting Started
Thank you for purchasing the Dual SBP8A 8" Bandpass Enclosure with built-in
Amplifier. Although Dual has attempted to ensure the information in this manual
is accurate, please be aware that any part of it is subject to change without notice.
Please read entire manual before installation. Due to the technical nature of
amplifiers, it is highly recommended that your Dual SBP8A is installed by a
professional installer or an authorized dealer.
Before You Start
•Alwaysdisconnectthenegativebatteryterminal.Consultaqualifiedtechnician
for instructions if you are unsure.
•Avoidinstallingtheamplifierwhereitwouldbesubjecttohightemperatures,
such as from direct sunlight, or where it would be subject to dust, dirt or
excessivevibration.
•Useextremecautionwhendrillingholestoavoiddamagingfuellinesor
existingvehiclewiring.
•Allamplifierinstallationsrequirepower,signalandspeakerwires(not
included).
•Anamplifierinstallationkit(soldseparately)ishighlyrecommendedto
facilitatetheinstallation.Consultyourdealerforrecommendations.
Mounting Location
•ChooseamountinglocationfortheSBP8A.Suggestedlocationsincludebehind
a seat or in the trunk.
•TheSBP8Acanbemountedhorizontal(recommended)orvertical.For
optimumperformance,makesuretoprovideatleast1"ofspacearoundall
sides of the amplifier.
•DonotmounttheSBP8Aundercarpetsorwhereairflowisrestricted.
•DonotinstalltheSBP8Awhereitmaybeexposedtomoisture.
•Theoptimummountinglocationvariesbetweenvehicles.Remembertotestall
amplifier functions before completing the final mounting procedure.

The following installation instructions are intended to be used as a basic
guideline. If you feel unsure about installing this speaker system yourself, Dual
recommendsacquiringtheservicesofaprofessionalcaraudioinstallation
center.
Beforeinstallation,pleasereviewthefollowingguidelines:
1.Besuretocarefullyreadandunderstandtheinstructionsbeforeattemptingto
install this product.
2.Forsafety,disconnectthebatterynegativeterminalpriortobeginningthe
installation.
3.Ifadditionalwiringisrequired,werecommendrunningallwirespriorto
mounting your bandpass enclosure in place.
4. To ensure reliable performance and minimize signal or power loss, use the
highestqualityconnectorsavailable.
5.Usecautionbeforeyoudrillorcut!Becarefulnottocutordrillintogastanks,
fuellines,brakeorhydrauliclines,vacuumlinesorelectricalwiringwhen
workingonanyvehicle.
6.Neverrunspeakerwiresunderneathyourvehicle.Runningspeakerwires
insidethevehicleprovidesthebestprotectionfromexhaust,heatand
environmentalelements.
7.Avoidrunningwiresover,nearorthroughsharp-edgedsurfaces.Wesuggest
you also use rubber grommets to protect any wires routed through metal,
especially the firewall.
8.Whenrunningthespeakercabletotheamplier,avoidrunningitnearsources
ofhighcurrent(i.e.wiringharnesses,batterycables).

The following instructions are designed to ensure safety during installation and
use of the SBP8A. Failure to heed these instructions can result in injury or damage
to the unit or vehicle.

NOTE
Be sure to follow specific instructions included with your amplifier installation
kit (not included with this amplifier). The information below should be used a
general guideline only.
Power Wire (BAT+)
•Disconnectnegativebatteryterminalbeforeproceeding.Consultaqualified
technician for instructions if you are unsure.
•Planwireroutingbeforecuttinganywirestolength.Beginbyroutingthepower
BAT+wirefromthebatterytotheamplifierlocation.Useagrommetwhen
runningwiresthroughthefirewallormetalopenings.Avoidrunningthepower
wirenearexistingvehiclewiringtopreventinducednoisefromenteringthe
audio system.
•Useextremecautionwhendrillingholestoavoiddamagingfuellinesor
existingvehiclewiring.
•TheBAT+wireMUSTbefusedwithin18"ofthebatteryforprotectionofthe
vehicle’selectricalsystem.
Ground Wire (GND)
•Theamplifiergroundwireshouldbeasshortaspossible.Chooseaclean
unpaintedsectionofmetalorthevehiclechassiswhenattachingtheground
connection. Be sure to clean the area of any dirt or grease.
Remote Turn-on Wire (REM)
•Theremoteturn-onwireconnectstotheheadunit'samplifierturn-onleador
otherswitched12voltsource.
Input Signal
•Theamplifier'sinputsignalconnectstotheheadunit'slowlevel(RCA)orhigh
level(speakerwire)outputs.
•Dedicatedsubwooferorlowlevelinputssignaldeliverthebestperformance.If
unavailable,usethehighlevelinputs-wheninterfacingwithfactoryheadunit
forinstance.Besuretoobservethecorrectpolaritywhenusingthehighlevel
inputs.
CAUTION
•Donotusebothlowandhighlevelinputsatthesametime-connectonlyone
or the other.
•Neverrunanywiresunderneathoroutsidethevehicle.

Setup and Adjustment of Controls
Lowlevel(RCA)inputsignalispreferredforbest
performance. Typical trunk-mount installations
requirea17-20footRCAcable.Mosttrucksand
behind-seatapplicationsrequirea6-12footRCA
cable.UsingtwistedpairconstructionRCAcables
will minimize noise.
HighlevelinputsshouldonlybeusedwhenRCA
outputsarenotavailablefromtheheadunit.Connect
theheadunitspeakeroutputstothehighlevelinput
connector shown on page 6. Do not use both low and
highlevelinputsatthesametime-connectonlyone
or the other.
Theadjustablecrossoverisusedtofilterout
frequenciesabove70Hz~200Hz.Adjustittowhere
the SBP8A sound output blends with the rest of the
sound system.
The phase control compensates for delay between
the SBP8A output and the rest of the sound system.
Beginwiththephasecontrolsetto0degrees.If
thesoundisadequatefromthenormallistening
positioninsidethevehicle,nofurtheradjustmentis
necessary. If the sound is thin or lacking bass, adjust
the phase control until the bass is full and punchy.
Theinputlevelcontrol(gain)isusedtoobtainthe
best possible match between the head unit audio
output and the amplifier input. Begin by turning
theinputlevelcontrolfullycounterclockwise.Next,
turnuptheheadunitvolumecontrolaround3/4of
thewayup.Adjusttheinputlevelcontrolclockwise
until audible distortion is heard, then slightly
counterclockwisetoprovidethebestmatch.
The LED indicator illuminates blue during normal
operation.

DualElectronicsCorp.warrantsthisproduct
to the original purchaser to be free from
defects in material and workmanship for a
period of one year from the date of the original
purchase.
DualElectronicsCorp.agrees,atouroption,
during the warranty period, to repair any defect
in material or workmanship or to furnish an
equalnew,renewedorcomparableproduct
(whicheverisdeemednecessary)inexchange
withoutcharges,subjecttoverificationofthe
defect or malfunction and proof of the date of
purchase.Subsequentreplacementproducts
are warranted for the balance of the original
warranty period.
