instructions so you can enjoy exceptional audio and video quality as soon as possible. Please refer to the Owner’s manual for detailed instructions. If you have

Finalising a Disc DVD Playback
Finalise
You must first finalise the disc before playing it back on other unit.
1Press [SETUP] in stop mode.
Setup Menu will appear.
2Select “DVD Menu” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
3Select “Finalise” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
4Select “Yes” using [U/ D], then press [ENTER].
Finalising will start.
• This operation may take awhile to be completed.
• If you insert a DVD-RW disc finalised with this unit, “Undo
Finalise” will appear instead of “Finalise”. To Undo the
finalisation of the disc, select “Undo Finalise” and press
[ENTER].
Direct Playback
1Press [STANDBY-ON] to turn on the unit.
Turn on the TV and be sure to select the input to which the
unit is connected.
2Press [DVD ].
3Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to open the disc tray.
4Place the disc on the disc tray with its label facing
up. Be sure to align the disc with the disc tray
guide.
5Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to close the disc tray.
6Press [PLAY P] to start playback.
Playback will start.
• Depending on the media, the playback may start from a
resume point. (See page 43 on the Owner’s Manual for
details.)
• If you are playing back a DVD-Video, a Disc Menu may
appear. Refer to page 42 on the Owner’s Manual for more
details about the Disc Menu.
7Press [STOP S] to stop playback.
Note
• Some discs may start playback automatically.
VCR Playback / Recording
Playback
1Press [STANDBY-ON] to turn on the unit.
To play back a tape, turn on the TV and be sure to select the
input to which the unit is connected.
2Press [VCR ].
3Insert a pre-recorded tape, then press [PLAY P] to
begin playback.
4During playback, press [PAUSE p].
Playback will be paused and sound will be muted.
5Press [PLAY P] to resume playback.
6Press [STOP S] to stop playback.
7Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to eject the tape.
Note
• When a tape without record tab is inserted, the unit will start playback
automatically.
• Tracking will be automatically adjusted upon playback. To adjust the
tracking manually, press [PROG. K/ L].
Basic Recording
Before recording, make sure:
• The desired channel is selected by pressing [the Number buttons] or
[PROG. K/ L]on the remote control.
• There is a tape with a record tab in the unit.
• The desired recording speed is selected in SP (standard play) or LP
(long play) mode by pressing [REC SPEED] on the remote control.
1Turn on the unit and insert a recordable tape.
Make sure that the TV input is set on the unit.
2Press [VCR ].
3Press [REC / OTR] to start recording.
To temporarily stop recording or to resume it, press
[PAUSE p].
After the unit has been in pause mode for 5 minutes, it will
stop automatically to protect the tape and the video head from
damage.
4Press [STOP S] when the recording is completed.

This unit can play back DVD discs labelled with the
following region codes only:
Kodak Picture CD
Connecting to a TV
Connect AV1 (TV) Scart jack of this unit to
the Scart jack of your TV.
Use the supplied Scart cable.
Note
• If your TV does not have a Scart jack, use a
commercially available Scart adaptor or Scart /
RCA cable to connect.
• Connect this unit directly to the TV. If the AV
cables are connected to a VCR, pictures may
be distorted due to the copy protection
system.
If your TV has an S-Video input jack, use
S-Video and Audio cables to connect.
1Connect S-VIDEO OUT jack of this
unit to the S-Video input jack of your
TV. Use a commercially available
S-Video cable.
2Connect the AUDIO OUT jacks of
this unit to the analogue Audio input
jacks of your TV. Use a commercially
available Audio cable.
Note for a TV with no S-Video input jack or Scart jack:
• This unit has no RF modulator, so this type of TV cannot be used.

This unit has three input terminals, AV1(TV) or AV2(DECODER) on the rear panel and AV3 on the front panel. Be sure that all the units are off before making
connections.
Switch the input selector on your TV to an appropriate external input channel. For details, refer to the Owner’s Manual of your TV.
Note
• Connect this unit directly to the TV. If the TV cables are connected to a VCR, pictures may be distorted due to the effects of the copy protection system.

Connecting to External Equipment
Note
• When you record a TV programme
from a Satellite Box, you must connect
a Scart cable to AV2(DECODER). (See
page 33 on the Owner’s Manual for
details.)
• When AV2 is connected, the signal
from the AV2 will be output
automatically. If you want to monitor
the signal from other input, you must
press [DISPLAY] first. Then, select
the desired input to monitor with
[INPUT SELECT].
• If you connect a Satellite or DVB-T
Receiver at AV2, the channel must be
tuned at the Receiver, not with this
device.
If no S-Video input jack is available,
connect to VIDEO input jack on the front
panel using an RCA Video cable.
Set “S-Video In” when using S-VIDEO
input jack. (See page 35 on the Owner’s
Manual for details.)
Digital Audio for Better Sound Quality
For clear digital sound quality, use the
DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL or
COAXIAL) jacks to connect your
digital audio equipment.
If the audio format of the digital output
does not match the capabilities of your
receiver, the receiver will produce a
strong, distorted sound or no sound at
all.
It may be necessary to change the setup
depending on the connecting device.
See page 17 on the Owner’s Manual for
details.

Before installation, unplug your TV and this unit.
Initial Setups
For the First Time Use Channel Setting
1After making all the necessary connections, turn
on the TV. Select the appropriate external input
channel. (See pages 16 to 17 on the Owner’s Manual for
details.)
2Press [STANDBY-ON].
3Press [ENTER] to start Auto Channel Tuning.
If you like to skip this step, press [RETURN ].
4Use [U/ D/ L/ P] to set current time then press
[ENTER].
Programme the tuner to scan only the channels you can receive in your
area.
1Press [SETUP] in stop mode.
Setup Menu will appear.
2Select “General Setting” using [U/ D], then
press [ENTER].
3Select “Channel” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
4Select “Auto Tuning” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
The unit will start storing channels available in your area.
• Wait for several minutes to finish channel storing.
After Auto Tuning has stopped:
Use [PROG. K/ L]or [the Number Buttons] to change the
channel.
Tuning the channel manually
You can store channels manually. For details, see page 20 on the
Owner’s Manual.
DVD Recording DVD / VCR Basic Dubbing
Basic recording
Press [DVD ]first.
Insert a recordable disc.
1Turn on the TV. Select the appropriate external
input channel. (See pages 16 to 17 on the Owner’s
Manual for details.)
2Select a recording speed using [REC SPEED].
(See page 23 on the Owner’s Manual for details.)
3Select the desired channel to record using
[PROG. K/ L] or [the Number buttons].
4Press [REC / OTR] to start recording.
The “I” mark will be displayed for 5 seconds.
To pause the recording, press [PAUSE p].
Press [REC / OTR] or [PAUSE p]to resume the recording.
5Press [STOP S] to stop the recording.
Note
• When the Clock Setting has not been made, the date and time of title
names will be 01/01/07 and 00:00.
• Up to 99 titles can be recorded on the DVD-RW/-R discs.
• You cannot change the recording speed in the REC or REC pause
mode.
• If you want to monitor the programme that you are recording, make
sure the device such as a Satellite Box is powered off or press
[DISPLAY] when it is connected to AV2.
• NTSC recording is prohibited in this unit.
• You can play back a title on one device while making a recording on
other device. To do so, simply select the device (DVD or VCR) you like
to use for the playback by pressing [DVD ]or [VCR ]button
during DVD / VCR recording. And then follow the normal playback
procedure.
Bi-directional Dubbing between DVD and VCR
Insert a disc and a tape with a record tab.
1In stop mode, press [SETUP].
2Select “General Setting” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
3Select “Recording” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
4Select “Dubbing Mode” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
Option window will appear.
5For VCR to DVD dubbing:
Select “VCR DVD” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
For DVD to VCR dubbing:
Select “DVD VCR” using [U/ D], then press
[ENTER].
6Press [SETUP] to exit.
7For VCR to DVD dubbing:
Press [VCR ].
For DVD to VCR dubbing:
Press [DVD ].
8Press [PLAY P], and then press [PAUSE p] at the
point you wish to start recording.
9For VCR to DVD dubbing:
Press [DVD ].
Make sure to select a recording speed using [REC SPEED].
For DVD to VCR dubbing:
Press [VCR ].
Make sure to select a recording speed using [REC SPEED].
Rewind or fast forward the tape to the point where you want
to start recording.
10 Press [DUBBING].
Duplication will start.
11 Press [STOP S] to stop the recording.
