TheDJ-RETRO01isdesignedtofitdirectlyintotheLaklandDarylJonesSignaturebasswithout
modification,includingaPP3battery.Itshighqualitycircuitusesthreestackedknobsandincludes
anactiveblendcircuitplusa3bandequaliserwithbass,variablefrequencymid,trebleandbright
function.Theactiveblendcircuitpreventsthelossassociatedwithmanypassivebasseswhere,
whenbothpickupsareupfull,thesignalfromonepickupfeedsintotheotherandviceversa.
However,aswitchisincludedtoallowapassiveequalmixofbothpickups.Asecondswitch-basic
"get-you-out-of-trouble"passivemodeisincludedincasethebatterydiesincrucialcircumstances,
andthismodeallowsuseablesettingstoo.

lowimpedancedrive.
ThelowerouterknobistheBlendbalanceforthepickups.Turnitfullyclockwisefortheneckpickupalone
andfullyanti-clockwiseforthebridgepickup.Themidwayposition,whichhasanindent,givesanequal
mixofbothpickups.Thebalancebetweenthepickupsiscontinuouslyvariablewithprogressivelevel
compensationtowardsthesinglepickupsettings.
Theswitch(bytheblend)mustbesetpointingtowardsthejackfortheBlendto
function.(See&diagramsfordetailsofhowthisswitchworks)
TheupperknobistheTreblecontrolwithboostandcut.Thecentral'flat'positionisindented.Thecut
settingsworkonlowerfrequenciescomparedtoboosttogiveadeepersoundwhenthetopisrolledoff.
PulltheTrebleknobfortheBrightsetting.
ThelowerouterknobistheboostonlyBasscontrol.Thefrequencybandofboostgetsprogressively
lowerastheboostisincreased.Anindentmidwayisincludedtoaidthesettingofthiscontrol.
TheupperknobcontrolstheamountofMidboostorcutatfrequenciesaccordingtothesettingofthe
Frequencyknob.Themidwayindentisthe'flat'position.
ThelowerouterknobiscontinuouslyvariableandsetstheMidfrequenciesforboostorcut.
Towardsthejackforactive,theoppositeforpassive.
Thepowerisswitchedonautomaticallywhenamonojackispluggedintothesocket.

IMPORTANT
Acrucial factor forthe installation ofaJ-RETRO 01 Pre is thesize of the routed slot.Thesedo
vary slightly frombass to bass. Although thepre-amp is likely to fit withoutaproblem, it's an
absolute must to check that theslot is wide enough to takeaPP3 battery. Thedepth is important
too, which ideallyneeds to beaminimum of 32.5mm toaallowalittleclearance.
InstallingtheJ-RETRO 01 (& Deluxe)
Unscrew the3screws forthe'bell'plateonyour bass andlift it out.Lay it on somesoft leather or thicksoftcloth
to protectthe bass.
Makeanote of whereallthewiresfromthe bass are connected to on theoriginalplate so it canbereturnedto
originallater if required. Disconnect allthewiresandremovetheplate.
MakesuretheJ-RETRO 01 anditsbatterywillfit in thecavitybefore connecting thewires.
Place theJ-RETRO 01 on the leather or cloth protecting the bass andconnectthewiresusingthescrew
terminalsaccording to thediagramabove, or additional diagram enclosed.
Clip thebattery ontothebatteryclipandlay it intothecavityaccording to thediagrambelow.
Before fitting the new platemakesureallthe wires, including thebattery wires, willnot be trapped in anywayby
the circuit board or any other part of thepre-amp.Fitusingtheoriginal3screws.
