4.1 Connecting ESM programmer to fan
CAUTION
Electrical charge on the unit
Risk of injury
>Before programming, disconnect the fan from the power supply.
>Open the cap on the fan, see Figure 2.
>To do this, use a broad flat-blade screwdriver.
>Turn the cap a quarter of a turn counter-clockwise.
NOTE
Sealing damage to the fan
The cap could be damaged and the fan is not sealed properly
>Turn the cap only for one-quater turn when opening or closing.
Fig. 2: Opening the cap
Connecting the ESM programmer
The connection on the ESM programmer is located on the top of the unit, see
Figure 3.
>Plug the RJ45 connector into the matching socket.
Be sure that the connector clicks into place, otherwise there may not be a proper
connection.
Fig. 3: Connecting the ESM programmer
Connecting the fan
The black connector is intended as the connection to the fan.
>Plug the connector into the socket according to its coding, see Figure 4.
>Plug the connector so far into the socket that the flat part of the connector
completely disappears in the opening.
>Make sure that the connector is not tilted when you do this. Never use force to
plug in the connector.

4.2 Programming
4.2.1 Switching the unit on
>Switch the ESM programmer on by pressing the "On/Off" button and holding it
until a tone is emitted.
The message "ESM PROGRAMMER – POWER ON" appears briefly before
the ESM programmer changes to the main menu, to "CHANGE SPEED 1".
The ESM programmer is now ready for use.

4.2.3 Navigation in the main menu
Fig. 5: ESM programmier controls
>Use the "Arrow up" and the "Arrow down" buttons to navigate to the required
option, or to change between options.
>Activate the option with the "Select" button.
4.2.4 Options
-Change speed 1
Speed 1 is the speed at which the fan operates when the 3rd (brown) lead is not
connected.
When this option is selected with the „Select“ button, the currently programmed
speed is displayed (in rpm).
This speed can be adjusted in steps of 100 rpm.
>Set the required speed with the "Arrow right" and "Arrow left" buttons.
During programming, ensure compliance with the speed limit values
stated in the product documentation for the fan.
>Confirm this value with the "Select" button.
The fan is programmed within the space of a few seconds.
After successful programming, the message "PROGRAMMING COMPLETE" appears.
In the event of a communications error, an error message will be displayed.
As a rule, this will be caused by a poor connection between the fan and the ESM
programmer.
>Check the connection / plug and restart the procedure.
Change speed 2
Speed 2 is the speed at which the fan operates when the 3rd (brown) lead is con-
nected to L or N.
When this option is selected with the "Select" button, the currently programmed
speed is displayed (in rpm).
The programming procedure is the same as that for CHANGE SPEED 1.
Backlight
>Press the "Select" button to switch the backlighting on or off. The lighting
remains on until it is switched off again, also with the "Select" button.
Battery
>Press the "Select" button to read off the battery state.
When a measured value of 2.2 V is reached, the two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries
must be changed. Higher values (in the range 2.3-3.3 V) are absolutely acceptable.
>Press the "Arrow up" and "Arrow down" buttons to return to the main menu.
Version
Shows the current software version.
4.2.5 Resetting ESM programmer

pressed until the message "ESM PROGRAMMER - POWER OFF" appears. The
display is then switched off.
If no button is pressed for 3 minutes, the unit will power down automatically.
4.3 Ending programming, starting fan operation
>Before you reconnect the power supply to the motor/fan, unplug the connector
cable and re-insert the cap.
NOTE
Sealing damage to the fan
The cap could be damaged and the fan is not sealed properly
> Replace the cap after programming.
> Turn the cap only for one-quater turn upon opening or closing.
4.4 Software upgrade
Should future software upgrades be necessary, a mini-USB connection is included
on the device (cable not included) for this purpose. The software would be made
available as a download to a personal computer which could then be uploaded to
