This chain saw is designed for cutting wood or wood
products.
Do not cut solid metal, sheet metal, plastic or any non-
wood materials.
It is important for you to understand all safety
precautions correctly before using your chain saw.
Misuse of the chain saw can cause serious bodily injury.
Never let children operate the saw.
This manual shows rules of safe operation, proper use,
servicing, and maintenance of your ECHO chain saw.
Follow these instructions in order to maintain a good
operating condition and a long service life.
For future reference, you should keep this operator’s
manual.
If this operator’s manual has become illegible through
impairment or is lost, please purchase a new one from
your ECHO dealer.

Rules for safe operation
Physical condition
• Do not operate a chain saw when you are fatigued or
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• You should be in good physical and mental health in
order to handle your chain saw safely. Errors in
judgement or execution can be serious or fatal.
If you have any physical condition which strenuous
work could worsen, check with your physician before
using a chain saw.
Do not operate when ill or fatigued, or under the
influence of any substance or medication which could
affect your vision, dexterity or judgement.

Personal equipment
CAUTION
Stuffing ears with cotton is not recommended.
• Always wear approved goggles to protect your eyes.
Wood chips, dust, snapping branches and other debris
can be thrown by the cutting chain into the operator’s
facial area.
Goggles may also offer limited protection in the event
of the cutting chain hitting the operator in the eye area.
If conditions warrant that a ventilated face shield be
worn, goggles must be worn underneath it.
• ECHO recommends wearing hearing protection at all
times.
If not followed, hearing loss can occur.
You should reduce the risk of hearing damage by
wearing either “headset” type protectors or ear plugs
which are approved by an authorized organization.

le orecchie, altrimenti si può accusare la perdita
dell’udito.
Dovreste ridurre il rischio di danni all’udito indossando
protezioni per le orecchie o cuffie approvate da un
ente autorizzato.
• All persons who make part of their living using chain
saws should be tested periodically for hearing
deterioration.
• Always wear a cap or hat when working with a chain
saw. A safety hard hat is highly recommended when
felling or working under trees, or when objects can fall
on you.
• Wear heavy duty, non-slip gloves for improved grip,
and also for protection against cold and vibration.
• Safety tip shoes or boots with non-slip sole should be
worn.

Kettensäge Gehörschutz zu tragen, um Hörschäden zu
vermeiden.
Einen optimalen Schutz für Ihren Kopf bietet ein
Schutzhelm mit integrietem Gesichts- und
Gehörschtuz.
• Tragen Sie stets Spezialhandschuhe für den Umgang
mit Kettensägen, wodurch die linke Hand besonders
geschützt ist.
• Tragen Sie stets Waldarbeiterschutzhosen.
• Tragen Sie stets Waldarbeiterstiefel mit Zehenkappen
aus Stahl und mit besonders geschütztem Blatt
(Fußrücken). Alle Stiefel müssen rutschfeste Sohlen
aufweisen.
• Tutte le persone che trascorrono parte della loro vita
lavorando con le motoseghe dovrebbero essere vistate
periodicamente affinché non siano compromesse le
loro capacità uditive.
• Indossate sempre un copricapo o un berretto quando
lavorate con una motosega.

• Never wear loose clothing, unbuttoned jackets, flared
sleeves and cuffs, scarves, tie-strings, neckties, cords,
chains, jewellery, etc. which could snag the saw chain
or underbrush.
• Clothing should be of sturdy, protective material. It
should be snug-fitting to resist snagging, but roomy
enough for freedom of movement.
• Trouser legs should not be flared or cuffed, and should
be either tucked into the boot tops or trimmed short.
• Safety vests, leg chaps and logger’s pants of ballistic
material are available.
It is the operator’s responsibility to wear such
additional protection if conditions warrant it.
• Never operate a chain saw when you are alone.
Arrange to have someone remain within calling
distance in case you need help.
Fuel
DANGER
• Petrol and fuel are extremely flammable.
If spilled or ignited by ignition source, it can
cause fire and serious injury or property
damage.
Extreme caution is required when handling
petrol or fuel.
• After refuelling, tighten fuel cap firmly and check
for leakage.
In case of fuel leakage, repair before starting
operation since there is a danger of fire.
• Use an appropriate type of fuel container.
• Bring an extinguisher or shovel in case of fire.
Despite the precautions which can be taken, operating
a chain saw, or just working in the forest, presents
dangers.

Kraftstoff
GEFAHR
• Kraftstoff ist höchst entzündbar. Falls Kraftstoff
verschüttet wird, oder sich durch einen Funken
entzündet, besteht Brandgefahr und es kann zu
gesundheitlichen oder materiellen Schäden
kommen. Gehen Sie besonders vorsichtig mit
Kraftstoff um.
• Nach der Tankbefüllung den Deckel festdrehen
und verschüttetes Benzin entfernen. Sollte ein
Tankleck aufgetreten sein, dann darf die
Motorsäge wegen Brandgefahr nicht gestartet
werden. Der Tank muss ausgewechselt werden.
• Nur zugelassene Kraftstoffbehälter benutzen.
• Sorgen Sie für einen Feuerlöscher oder eine Decke für
den Brandfall.

Attenzione che non fuoriesca vicino a fonti che
potrebbero infiammarlo causando serio pericolo
per l’operatore. Si richiede quindi la massima
attenzione nel maneggiare il carburante.
• Dopo il rifornimento, serrare bene il tappo del
serbatoio, controllando con attenzione che non
vi siano fuoriuscite di carburante. In caso di
perdite, sistemare prima di mettere in funzione
la macchina, per evitare il rischio di incendio.
• Utilizzare una tanica per carburante idonea.
• Portate un estintore o un badile, in caso di incendi.
Nonostante le precauzioni che si possono prendere,
l’uso di una motsega o il lavoro nel bosco può
presentare dei pericoli.
• Non indossate mai indumenti larghi, giacche aperte,

Starting engine
• Move the chain saw at least 3 m from the fuelling point
before starting the engine.
• Do not allow other persons to be near the chain saw
when you are starting or cutting with the chain saw.
Keep bystanders and animals out of the work area.
Do not let anyone hold wood for you to cut.
• Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area,
secure footing and a planned retreat path from the
falling tree.
• Do not smoke or bring flame or sparks near to fuel
supplies.
• The fuel tank may be under pressure. Always loosen
the fuel cap and wait for pressure to be equalized
before removing the cap.
• Fill the fuel tank outdoors over bare ground and install
the fuel cap securely. Do not pour fuel indoors.
• Wipe any spilled fuel off the unit.
• Never refuel while the engine is still hot, or fuel a
running engine.
• Do not store the unit with fuel in its tank, because a
fuel leak could start a fire.

2. Kickback safety precautions

Kickback safety precaution for chain saw users:
kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the
guide bar touches an object or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
• In some cases, tip contact may cause a lightning-fast
reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back
toward the operator (this is called a rotational
kickback).
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar
may push the guide bar rapidly back toward the
operator (this is called a linear kickback).

• Do not operate a chain saw with one hand!
Serious injury to the operator, helpers or bystanders
may result from one-handed operation. For proper
control, always use two hands when operating a chain
saw, one of which operates the trigger. Otherwise, this
can result in the chain saw “skating” or skidding, which
can result in personal injury due to loss of control.
• Keep a good firm grip on the saw which both hands,
with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand
on the front handle, when the engine is running. Use a
firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the chain
saw handles. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback
and maintain control of the saw. Two hands must be
used to control the saw at all times.
• Do not overreach or cut above chest height.
• Make sure that the area in which you are cutting is free
from obstructions. Do not let the bar nose contact a
log, branch, or any other obstruction which could be hit
while you are operating the saw.
• Cutting at high engine speeds may reduce the
likelihood of kickback. But cutting at part-throttle or low
engine speeds may be preferable to control the chain
saw in tight situations and may also reduce the
likelihood of kickback.
• Follow manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance
instructions for the saw chain.
• Use only replacement guide bars and chains specified
by the manufacturer, or the acceptable equivalents of
these guide bars and chains.

3.Other safety precautions
Vibration and cold
It is believed that a condition called Raynaud’s
Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain
individuals, may be brought about by exposure to cold
and vibration.
Accordingly, your ECHO chain saw has shock mounts
designed to reduce the intensity of vibration received
through the handles.
Exposure to cold and vibration may cause tingling and
burning followed by loss of color and numbness in the
fingers. We strongly recommend you take the following
precautions because the minimum exposure which
might trigger the ailment is unknown.

consult your physician before further exposing yourself
to cold and vibration.

It is believed that over-using the muscles and tendons of
the fingers, hands, arms and shoulders may cause
soreness, swelling, numbness, weakness and extreme
pain to the areas just mentioned.
To reduce the risk of repetitive stress injury, do the
following:

Cutting
• Do not operate a chain saw in a tree unless you have
been specifically trained to do so.
• Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain
when the engine is running.
• Use extreme caution when cutting small-size brush
and saplings because slender material may catch the
saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off
balance.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for
spring-back so that you will not be struck by the limb or
chain saw when the tension in the wood fibers is
released.
• Cutting while on a ladder is extremely dangerous
because the ladder can slip and your control of the
chain saw is limited.
Working aloft should be left to professionals.
• Stop the engine before setting the chain saw down.

cada addosso la motosega quando si riduce la
tensione nelle fibre di legno.
• Se tagliate stando su una scala correte un grave
pericolo perché la scala può scivolare ed il vs controllo
sulla motosega è limitato.
Solo i professionisti potrebbero lavorare da soli.
• Spegnete il motore prima di posare a terra la
macchina.

Wood practices
• Operating a chain saw safely requires a chain saw in
proper working order, sound judgement, and
knowledge of the methods which should be applied in
each cutting situation.
• Do not let any person use your saw unless he has
read this operator’s manual and fully understands its
instructions.
• Use your saw only to cut wood or wood products. Do
not cut solid metal, sheet metal, plastics or any non-
wood materials.
• Stay on the uphill side when bucking or limbing logs
which might roll when cut.
• Keep both feet on the ground. Do not work from off-
the-ground positions.
Praktischer Einsatz
• Sicheres Arbeiten mit einer Motorsäge erfordert eine
Maschine in technisch einwandfreiem Zustand,
gesundes Urteilsvermögen und Kenntnis der
Arbeitstechniken für die jeweilige Aufgabe.

Description
1. Silencer - The silencer controls the exhaust noise
and prevents hot, glowing particles of carbon from
leaving the silencer.
2. Front hand guard - Guard between the front
handle and the saw chain for protecting the hand
from injuries and aiding in control of the chain saw if
the hand slips off the handle. This guard is used to
activate the chain brake which is to stop the saw
chain rotation.
3. Choke control knob - Device for enriching the fuel/
air mixture in the carburettor to aid cold starting.
4. Rear handle (for the right hand) - Support handle
located towards the rear of the engine housing.
5. Rear hand guard - Extension on the lower part of
the rear handle for protecting the hand from the
chain if it breaks or degrooves.
6. Clutch cover - Protective cover to the guide bar,
saw chain, clutch and sprocket when the chain saw
is in use.
7. Chain tension adjuster - Device to adjust chain
tension.
8. Chain catcher - A projection designed to reduce
the risk of the operator’s right hand from being hit by
a chain which has broken or derailed from the guide
bar during cutting.
9. Spiked bumper -Device, fitted in front of the guide
bar mounting point, acting as a pivot when in
contact with a tree or log.
10. Guide bar - The part that supports and guides the
saw chain.
11. Chain - Chain, serving as a cutting tool.
12. Oil tank cap - For closing the oil tank.
13. Stater handle - The grip of the starter, for starting
the engine.
14. Fuel tank cap - For closing the fuel tank.
15. Throttle trigger - Device activated by the operator’s
finger, for controlling the engine speed.
16. Throttle trigger lockout - A safety lever which
must be depressed before the throttle trigger can be
activated in order to prevent the accidental
operation of the throttle trigger.
17. Throttle latch - Device for temporality setting the
throttle in a partially open position to aid starting.
18. Ignition switch - Device for connecting and
disconnecting the ignition system and thus allowing
the engine to be started or stopped.

located at the front of the engine housing.
21. Cylinder cover - The cooling air flow grill. It cover

1. Schalldämpfer - Der Schalldämpfer dient zur
Senkung des Auspufflärms und verhindert, daß
heiße, glühende Kohlepartikel aus dem Auspuff
austreten.
2. Handschutz - Schutz zwischen vorderem Handgriff
und Sägekette um die Hand vor Verletzungen zu
schützen und um die Maschine zu kontrollieren,
wenn die Hand vom Griff abrutscht.
Dieser Schutz wird verwendet, um die
Kettenbremse zu aktivieren und die Kettenrotation
zu stoppen.
3. Choke-Bedienungsknopf - Einrichtung zur
Anreicherung des Kraftstoff/Luft- Gemischs im
Vergaser, um das Anlassen zu erleichtern.
4. Hinterer Handgriff (rechte Hand) - Griff der am
hinteren Ende des Motorgehäuses befestigt ist.
5. Hinterer Handschutz - Verlängerung am unteren
Teil des hinteren Griffs zum Schutz der Hand vor

befestigter Montagepunkt, der bei Berührung mit

10. Führungsschiene - Der Teil, der zur Führung der
Sägekette dient.
11. Sägekette - Als Schneidwerkzeug dienend.
12. Öltankdeckel - Zur Abdeckung und Abdichtung des
Öltanks.
13. Startergriff - Langsam am Griff ziehen bis der
Starter einrastet. Dann schnell und kräftig.
Wenn der Motor startet, den Griff langsam
zurückgleiten lassen, Nicht zurückschnappen
lassen, dies kann zu Schäden am Gehäuse führen.
14. Benzintankdeckel - Schützt und schließt den
Benzintank.
15. Gashebel - Durch Finger der Bedienkraft betätigte

2. Protezione impugnatura anteriore - Protezione tra
l’impugnatura anteriore e la catena della motosega
per proteggere la mano da ferimenti e per favorire il
controllo della motosega, nel caso la mano scivoli
dall’impugnatura. Questa protezione viene usata
per attivare il freno catena che arresta la rotazione
della catena.
3. Manopola dell’aria - Dispositivo per arricchire la
miscela carburante/aria nel carburatore, per favorire
l’avviamento a freddo.
4. Impugnatura posteriore (per la mano destra) -
Impugnatura di supporto posizionata verso la parte
posteriore dell’alloggio-motore.
5. Paramano posteriore - Estensione sulla parte
bassa dell’impugnatura posteriore per proteggere la
mano dalla catena, nel caso si rompa o esca dal

6. Carter frizione - Carter protettivo per la barra, la
catena, la frizione e il pignone quando si usa la
motosega.
7. Tendi-catena - Dispositivo che regola la tensione
della catena.
8. Nottolino salva-catena - Serve a proteggere la
mano destra dell’operatore dall’essere colpita dalla
catena che si è rotta o che è saltata dalla lama.
9. Rampone - Dispositivo posizionato nella parte
anteriore del punto di montaggio della barra che
serve da perno quando a contatto con un albero o
tronco.
10. Barra - Parte che supporta e guida la catena della
motosega.
11. Catena - Catena che serve da utensile di taglio.
12. Tappo serbatoio olio - Copre e sigilla il serbatoio
dell’olio.
13. Impugnatura di avviamento - Tirate lentamente
l’impugnatura finché non viene azionato il motorino
d’avviamento, e poi velocemente e con fermezza.
Quando il motore si è avviato fate rientrare
lentamente l’impugnatura. Non lasciatela rientrare
con uno scatto altrimenti la motosega si danneggia.
14. Tappo serbatoio carburante - Copre e sigilla il
serbatoio carburante.
15. Grilletto acceleratore - Dispositivo attivato dal dito
dell’operatore, per controllare la velocità del motore.
16. Dispositivo di blocco grilletto acceleratore - È
costituito da una leva che deve essere premuta
prima che il grilletto acceleratore possa essere
attivato, onde prevenire il funzionamento
accidentale del grilletto acceleratore.
17. Fermo acceleratore - Dispositivo per regolare
temporaneamente l’acceleratore in una posizione
parzialmente aperta, per favorire l’avviamento.
18. Interruttore d’accensione - Dispositivo per il
collegamento e lo scollegamento del sistema
d’accensione, che consente così di avviare o
spegnere il motore.
