3. Validity of documentation
We, ecom instruments GmbH, declare under our sole responsibility that our „CNx(e)
ATEX“ product range is based on device types CN3 and CN3e as well as CN4 and CN4e
from Intermec.
All of the original documents such as the general safety precautions, the Quick Start
Guide, explanations and the operating instructions therefore maintain their validity.
Exceptions and variations thereof (e.g. relating to use in hazardous areas) are to be
inferred from these safety precautions.
In case of any doubt these safety precautions provided by ecom instruments Gmbh shall
apply.
4. Faults and damage
If there is any reason to suspect that the safety of the unit has been impaired, it must be
withdrawn from use and removed immediately from the Ex-area.

- Do not stare directly at the laser!
- Risk of eye damage!
- Laser class 2
7.2 Pacemakers
- Electromagnetic waves can cause malfunctions and endanger your health!
As no definitive statements can be currently made regarding the immunity of pacema-
kers to conducted disturbances, we generally recommend anyone wearing a pacema-
ker refrains from working with radio equipment (transmission operations)!
- No transmissions should be made close to anyone wearing a pacemaker!
7.3 Infrared
- Do not direct the IR beam into the eyes of another person and prevent the IR beam
from interfering with other IR devices.
7.4 Information concerning wireless devices
The use of wireless devices may be prohibited or restricted in some environments. This
can apply aboard aeroplanes, in hospitals, near explosive substances or under other
hazardous conditions. If you are unsure what rules apply to the use of the device, please
ask for permission before switching it on.
7.5 Information for the European Union

20
7.6 Information for the USA
There is a risk of exposure to high frequency radiation. The radiation output of this de-
vice is below the FCC limits for high frequency radiation. Nevertheless, the device should
be used in such a way that contact with people during normal operation is predominant-
ly avoided.
7.7 Information for Canada
The following conditions are to be observed for operating this device: (1) This device
should not cause any harmful interference and (2) it must accept any interference recei-
ved, including interference that may cause undesired operation. If the „IC:“ designation is
present before the approval registration number, it indicates that the requirements of the
Industry Canada Standard have been fulfilled.
7.8 Information for air travel
Permission for using electronic devices on board an aircraft is at the discretion of the
respective airline.
8. Battery care
- The battery should be fully charged before first use.
- Note that the maximum capacity of the battery is only obtained after approximately 6
charging and discharge cycles.
- As the efficiency of batteries diminishes over the course of time, it should be occa-
sionally discharged completely in order to maintain the full capacity. To do this leave
the unit switched on until it switches itself off. Then fully charge the battery outside the
Ex-area.
- The battery must be fully charged before being stored for a prolonged period and it
should be recharged regularly (every 3 months).
The battery module should not be burned or subjected
to temperatures exceeding 60 °C!
Do not open or dismantle the battery module!
Dispose of the battery module properly!
Keep the battery module away from children!
Do not subject the battery module to inadmissible mechanical loads.
Replace damaged modules immediately!
Only use battery modules and chargers that are approved for CNx(e) ATEX!
Do not short circuit the battery module!
When inserting the battery pay attention to the correct polarity and fit!

21
High quality lithium-ion batteries are used in your CNx(e) ATEX. These batteries have
numerous advantages in everyday use, such as a low weight and high capacity in a
nevertheless compact construction. In addition these batteries also exhibit practically no
memory effect.
However, these batteries are susceptible to a natural ageing process which impairs their
functionality. Modern batteries today have a lifespan of around 500 charge cycles, which,
when used daily, corresponds to a service life of approximately 2 years. The ageing
process increases rapidly after this period, which means that the batteries are deemed
technically defective after 500 charge cycles. Moreover, the batteries could blow up and
cause irreparable damage to your device in a worst case scenario.
For this reason rechargeable batteries with lithium cells should be replaced after 2 years
at the latest or after reaching a battery capacity that is 50% of its initial value.
Note: The battery used in this unit poses a fire hazard and can cause chemical injuries if
it is used improperly. Neither the battery nor the battery cells should be opened or disas-
sembled and they should not be burned or exposed to temperatures exceeding 100 °C.
9. Disposal
Old electrical devices as well as „historical“ old electrical devices from ecom instru-
ments GmbH are supplied for disposal at our expense and disposed of free of charge
in accordance with European Directive 2002/96/EC and the German electrical law of
16/03/2005. The costs associated with returning devices to ecom instruments GmbH are
to be borne by the sender.
Your device contains a rechargeable lithium battery.
Depleted batteries or rechargeable batteries that can no longer be recharged should
never be disposed of along with normal or household waste. Old batteries can contain
harmful substances that are hazardous to health and damaging to the environment.
Please return the batteries/rechargeable batteries. Return is free of charge and required
by law. Please only dispose of discharged batteries in the designated containers or take
precautions to prevent short circuits. The poles of lithium batteries must be masked in
each case.
If the battery needs to be disposed of, it can be removed as described. The disposal
regulations specified above are also applicable for old devices.
All batteries and rechargeable batteries can be recycled. Precious raw materials such as
iron, zinc and nickel can therefore be reused.
The symbol means that batteries and rechargeable batteries should not be dis-
posed of along with normal or household waste.

to compensation, are exclusively valid and replace all other contract or legal warranty
obligations. ecom instruments GmbH assumes no liability for special, direct, indirect,
accompanying or consequential damage as well as losses including the loss of data,
independent of whether it was caused by violation of the warranty obligation, lawful or
unlawful action, action in good faith or any other action.
If the limitation of a legal warranty as well as the exclusion or limitation of accompany-
ing or consequential damage is not permissible in certain countries, it may be that the
aforementioned limitations and exclusions are not valid for every purchaser. Should any
such clause of these warranty conditions be declared ineffective or unenforceable by a
competent court, then the effectiveness or enforceability of any of the other conditions of
these warranty conditions shall remain unaffected by such a judgement.
