UNPACKING AND SET UP
• Remove the radio from the carton and remove all packing material from the
radio. We suggest that you save the packing material, if possible, in the unlikely
event that your radio ever needs to be returned for service. The original carton
and packing material is the only safe way to pack your radio to protect it from
damage in transit.
• Remove any descriptive labels or stickers on the front or top of the cabinet. Do
not remove any labels or stickers from the back or bottom of the cabinet.
• Place your radio on a level surface such as a table, desk or shelf, convenient to
anAC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess heat, dirt,
dust, moisture, humidity, or vibration.
• Unwind theAC power cord and extend it to its full length.
AC OPERATION
The AC power cord is located inside the battery compartment. It is permanently
attached to the radio to prevent loss.
• Open the battery compartment by pressing on the “
OPEN
” marks on the cover
and sliding it downward in the direction of the arrows.

• Remove the coiled AC cord from the storage compartment and extend it to its
full length.
• Position the cover over the battery compartment and place the cord into the
notch on the battery compartment cover as shown.
• Slide the battery cover upward until it snaps back into place.
Connect theAC cord to your 120V 60Hz outlet.
Note: When the AC power cord is connected to the outlet the power source
automatically switches to AC. You may leave batteries inside the unit if desired.
There is no battery consumption when the power cord is connected to an AC
outlet.
CAUTION
Thisradioisdesigned tooperateon normal120V60HzACpoweronly.Donot
attempttooperatethe radioon anyotherpowersource.You couldcausedamage
tothe radiothatisnotcovered byyourwarranty.
Thisradiousesapolarized ACplug which
hasone blade widerthan the other.Thisplug
will onlyfitintoapolarizedACoutlet. Thisis
asafetyfeature.If the plug will notfit, you
mayhavean oldernon-polarized ACoutlet.
Donotdefeatthe safetyfeaturebytrying to
filethe widerblade,orreplacing the plug.

BATTERY OPERATION
This unit requires 4 “AA” batteries, not included. We recommend using a well-
known brand of alkaline batteries for longest life and best performance.
• Open the battery compartment by pressing on the “
OPEN
” marks on the cover
and sliding it downward in the direction of the arrows.
• If necessary, fold theAC power cord as shown and push it back into the cord
storage compartment.
• Insert the 4 “AA” batteries into the battery compartment as shown. Be sure to
observe the polarity markings inside the compartment. If the batteries are
inserted incorrectly the unit will not work.
• Slide the battery cover upward until it snaps back into place.
Note: When the radio sound becomes weak or distorted it is time to change
the batteries. Replace all 4 batteries with fresh, new alkaline batteries at the
same time.

RADIO OPERATION
1.) Turn on the radio by rotating the VOLUME control clockwise.
2.) Rotate the Band Selector switch to select the desired band (AM, FM/TV1 or
TV2).
• Select AM to tune AM radio stations.
• Select FM/TV1 to tune FM radio stations and TV channels 2 through 6.
• Select TV2 to tune TV channels 7 through 13.
3.) Tune the desired station by rotating the TUNING control.
4.) Adjust the VOLUME control as desired.
5.) To turn the unit off, rotate the VOLUME control counterclockwise until a click
sound is heard.
WEATHER BAND OPERATION
ThisradioreceivescontinuousU.S.GovernmentWeatherBroadcastsfromthe
NationalOceanicandAtmosphericAdministration (NOAA),partoftheDepartment
ofCommerce.ThisNationalWeatherRadioserviceincludesmorethan 750
transmitterscovering all 50 statesand adjacentcoastalwaters,PuertoRico,the U.
S.VirginIslands,and the U.S.PacificTerritories.The weatherbroadcastsare
transmitted on seven separatebandsfrom162.400 MHzto162.550 MHz.
Tohearthe weatherreports,press the WEATHERbutton on the top cabinetatany
time.If you werelistening toanotherband the radiowill automaticallyswitchtothe
weatherband.
The volumelevelisfixed atoptimumlistening levelon InstantWeatheroperation.
Inordertoincreaseordecreasethe volumelevel,turnthe volumecontrolup or
down.
Note:Sincethe NationalWeatherRadiotransmittersoperateatmuchlower
powerthan commercialradiostations,the volumeon the weatherband
will be lowerthan forAM/FMorTVbands.Thisisnormaland notan
indication ofanytroublewithyourunit. Adjustthe volumewhen listening
tothe WeatherBand ifnecessary.

If you do nothearthe weatherreportswhen you press the WEATHERbutton,very
slowlyrotatethe WEATHERBAND FINETUNINGcontrolon the back cabinetof
the radiountil you arereceiving the frequency ofthe NationalWeatherRadio
transmitterthatisbroadcasting inyourarea.You onlyneed todo thisone time,
unless you movetoadifferentarea.Inthatcaseyou mighthavetoadjustthe
WEATHERBAND FINETUNINGcontrolagain.
ANTENNAS
AM – This unit has a built-in ferrite rod antenna, which eliminates the need for an
external antenna, and provides adequate reception in most areas. If reception is
weak, turn the unit to improve reception.
FM, TV, WEATHER BAND – The telescopic antenna on the top of the unit is for
these bands only. If reception is weak, adjust the length of the antenna.

SETTING THE DATE AND TIME
Note: The month and date are displayed numerically (MM/DD).
For example, February 28th is displayed as “2 28”.
1.) Press the MODE button twice. The Month display
appears.
2.) Press the SET button repeatedly to advance the display to the correct month.
3.) Press the MODE button again. The Day display
appears.
4.) Press the SET button repeatedly to advance the display to the correct day.
5.) Press the MODE button again. The Hour display
appears together with either the “A” (AM) or “P”
(PM) indicator.
6.) Press the SET button repeatedly to advance the display to the correct hour,
AM or PM.
7.) Press the MODE button again. The Minutes
display appears.
8.) Press the SET button repeatedly to advance the display to the correct minute.
9.) Press the MODE button once more, then press
the SET button. The clock begins to run.
To see the date at any time, press the SET button. The display will change from
time to month/date for a few seconds and then change back to time display
automatically.

NOTE: This radio includes a special circuit that will keep the clock running
for a certain time after the batteries are exhausted, even if the unit is not
connected to the AC outlet. However if you do not replace the batteries for
a long period of time the clock will stop running and will need to be reset
after fresh batteries are installed.
DISPLAY LIGHT
To see the time in low-light conditions, press the LIGHT button. The display lighting
will turn on for a few seconds and then shut off automatically.
EARPHONE JACK
For private listening, an earphone jack is located on the left side of the radio.
Plug in the earphone (not included) and adjust the volume to a comfortable level.
The internal speaker is disconnected when the earphone is plugged into the radio.
