STW1-MC-C5 Speaker/Microphone Instructions
The STW1-MC-C5 is a two-way audio surveillance speaker/microphone for connection to DVRs, IP cameras etc. The
STW1-MC-C5 can only be used with ETS SMAx-LPxx-C5 DVR & IP camera interfaces. Note- this equipment is intended
for use with camera or VMS software that has a PTT (push to talk) half duplex option for two-way audio. If your software
does not support this mode you may get acoustical howling feedback.
STW1-MC-C5 Speaker / Microphone Placement.
Do not mount the STW1-MC-C5 near air conditioning vents, light fixtures or electrical equipment. Locate the STW1-MC-
C5 as close as possible to the subjects of interest. The STW1-MC-C5 is usable at distances of up to 25 feet but is
dependent on the level of background noise in the area. Experimentation in the environment will determine what distances
work best.
Speaker/Microphone Cable Run
Run a single CAT5 cable from the STW1-MC-C5 Speaker / Microphone and the SMAx-LPxx-C5 interface box. Keep the
cable run distance at or below 1000 feet and away from AC power sources, light fixtures and electrical equipment. Wire
the RJ45 cable connectors in the following order:
Pair 1 1 CALL SW
2 CALL SW
Pair 2 3 SPEAKER (70V) +
4 SPEAKER (70V) –
Pair 3 5 MICROPHONE +
6 MICROPHONE –
Pair 4 7 +12V (MICROPHONE)
8 COM (MICROPHONE)
Mounting
To flush mount the STW1-MC-C5 on ceilings or walls, we recommend using a single gang remodel box found at any
hardware store. The STW1-MC-C5 can also be mounted in a surface mount single gang. If used outdoors, the sealing
gasket must be used if the STW1-MC-C5 will be directly exposed to the elements.
Call Switch Connections
The STW1-MC-C5 features a call switch. Terminal block connections are available on the ETS SMAx-LPxx-C5 interface
for connection to an IP camera or DVR dry contact alarm input.
Adjusting the Microphone “Gain” and SMAx-LPxx-C5 Microphone “Level”
If the SMAx-LPxx-C5 will be plugged into a “microphone level” input of an IP camera, set the gain on the STW1-MC-C5 to
one eigth turn clockwise from full counter clockwise, then use the microphone level control on SMAx-LPxx-C5 to produce
the clearest audio level at the head end. If the SMAx-LPxx-C5 will be plugged into a “line level” input of an IP camera, set
the gain on the STW1-MC-C5 to mid-point from full counter clockwise, then use the microphone level control on SMAx-
LPxx-C5 to produce the clearest audio level at the head end.
Adjusting the speaker volume
STW1-MC-C5 speaker volume can only be adjusted on the SMAx-LPxx-C5 at the other end of the system. Adjust this
level to produce the clearest audio level on the STW1-MC-C5
