INTRODUCTION
Dear Customer,
We are pleased to welcome you within the large family of those who use the water
softening devices of Euro-Clear Magyarország Ltd. By buying the water softener
device, you have become the owner of a device fulfilling the latest technical,
economic and hygiene requirements.
Any water we use comes from rain, which is originally soft water. Rain dissolves
mineral salts such as calcium and magnesium as it leaks through the above-ground
of the rock layers. In Hungary, all water coming from waterpipes or wells contain
these mineral salts. Such water is called „hard water” as it makes hard scale
sediment in the water system.
When using hard water, the efficiency of heating systems decreases, as the
sediment of scale causes major problems especially on the heating interlines and
heaters. The thick scale layer which is as hard as concrete covers the heating
elements of hot water boilers and washing machines or the heat exchangers of
boilers and even faucets. The systems use much more energy and their
maintenance costs much more and they last far less. You can see spots looking like
dirt everywhere on faucets and tiles in the kitchen or the bathroom and on glasses.
Your skin is uncomfortably itchy after having a shower, especially if your skin is more
sensitive. You need to use much more soap and washing powder.
The household water softener protects waterpipes and hot water systems against
scale sediment which stops water flow and increases energy consumption. It
protects devices and kits so they will not need expensive fixing. By using softened
water, you will need far less washing and cleaning products. If you use softened
water, coffee and tea will taste nicer, the kitchen, the bathroom and the tiles will be
bright. When you iron, you can save time as clothes do not get that creasy in the
washing machine. When you wash your car, its polish will be spotless.
The water softener device is suitable for softening drinking water coming from water
systems conform to the regulation of the Government No 201/2001. (X.25.) and to
the standards of the European Union.
The Hungarian standard for drinking water requires at least 5 Gh (German
hardness), therefore we set the device so that it emits water of 6 to 8 Gh.
If you respect what is described in the guide, your water softening device will protect
you and your family in the long term from the problems caused by hard water.

The operation principle of the water softening device:
Water softening devices thrive on a method of ion exchange. Hard water flows
through the ion exchange resin where the water softening is done with ion
exchange. The resin charge of the ion-exchange of the device changes the Ca++
and Mg++ ions into Na+ ions which do not get separated even at higher water
temperature. After producing a certain quantity of soft water, the charge gets
discharged so it needs regenerating. Regenerating is done automatically by using a
very clean NaCl solution. While being regenerated, the Na+ ions get into the resin
again from the brine. The device is completely automatic, it completes all the
process of cleaning and regenerating. As to the staff handling the device, all they
need to do is supervise it periodically. The device also needs regular salt supplying.
You can fill salt into the device enough for several regenerating as the device uses
up only as much as it needs for regenerating the resin. Manual dosage of the
regenerating salt is not necessary, all you need to do is check its quantity and refill it
if necessary. One of the features of the excellent quality resin used for softening is
that the sizes of the granules are nearly the same. This allows lesser consumption of
salt, so the costs of operation get lower.
The control valve regenerates the softening resin during water break at night, which
is necessary as during the regeneration the device does not change the hardness of
the incoming water, so it would not get softened.
The water softening resin makes water of 0,1 German hardness. To get drinking
water of 5 German hardness, which is the minimal authorized limit, after softening
the water it needs to be hardened artificially. The mixing valve has been put into the
control valve of the device, so the water coming out of the softener has got the
adjusted hardness.
Description of the chemical operation of the water softening device:
The chemical operation of the device thrives on the ion-exchanging properties of the
charged ion-exchanging resin. These properties come from the active groups that
have free valence and are planted into the neutral polystyrene substrate. These
compounds have relatively small affinity to natrium and relatively big affinity to
calcium and magnesium. While the device is working, the ion-changing resin
charged with natrium keeps changing the calcium and magnesium ions of the water
into natrium ions. This process is the water-softening which lasts as long as there is
natrium on the active groups of the resin.

In case the ion-exchanging resin gets saturated with calcium and magnesium ions
during the operation, we say that the resin is discharged. The discharged resin

needs regenerating. During the regeneration, the calcium and magnesium ions on
the active groups are exchanged into natrium ions. Due to the different affinitiy, this
process comes about only if there are quite a lot of spare natrium. In practice, during
the regeneration we have a NaCl solution of 10 per cent flow through the ion-
exchanging resin.
The natrium of the solution gets connected to the active groups of the resin and the
calcium and magnesium which get connected to the chloride ion go into the canal
with the rinsing water.
Apart from the calcium and magnesium, there are several other elements in the
water. In case there is a high content of iron or manganese, the ion exchanging resin
can get damaged partly reversibly and partly irreversibly.
For operating it safely, the device must be operated only by drinking water quality
water as described in the introduction. In case the water quality is worse than
that, pre-filtration and iron removal must be applied.
Structure of the water softening device:
For space-saving, cleaning and management reasons, all the main elements of the
device have been placed into the plastic cabinet. It contains the water softening
resin, the pillar which holds the resin and is resistant to pression, the unit that soaks
up the salt and the control valve block. Compared to the ordinary industrial devices,
the look of the device is esthetic and easy to be cleaned thanks to its designed
cabinet.

Ways of control of the water softening devices:
Every device is the same if we consider that their regeneration does not need an
operator as it gets started and completed automatically, moreover, during the
regeneration the same sessions of process are completed. The devices can be
differenciated by the principle their regeneration thrives on and the way of
programming.
Based on the principle of starting regeneration:
- Time controlled
- Quantity controlled
- Time and quantity controlled
Time controlled device:
The device has got a fitted clock which starts regeneration when the time that
has been set comes.
Quantity controlled device:
The device has got a fitted water meter which measures the quantity of the
produced softened water and starts regeneration when the quantity that has
been set is reached. The water meter is for controlling the device. On the
device, you can read the quantity of water that can be produced until the
regeneration.
Time and quantity controlled device:
Apart from the quantity controlled function mentioned above, the device can
complete constraint regeneration which thrives on time. The constraint
regeneration option can be switched off if you want to.

INSTALLATION OF THE WATER SOFTENING DEVICE
Conditions of installation:
For installing the device, you will need a room which has got a flat, horizontal and
tough flooring. The direct surrounding of the flooring and device must resist to the
corrosive effect of the salt solution. The device must be installed in a room the
temperature of which is between +5°C and +40°C.The temperature of the raw water
to be managed cannot exceed +30 °C. It is prohibited to install the device into a very
dusty or dump room. It must be protected from frost, radiant heat and ultra-violet
radiation.
There must be sewage connection ( at least DN40) and a grounded electric socket
of 230 V, 50 Hz in the direct surrounding of the device. For decreasing risks of
damage, we suggest that the device should be installed in a room that is equipped
with a floor drain.
Diameter of the raw water pipe : 3/4” or 1”
Pressure of raw water : 2,5 –6 bar (even if you have maximal raw
water drainage)
Connection of treated water : 3/4” or 1”
Sewage connection : ½” plastic tube
Safety overflow : ½” plastic tube
Size of the sewage canal : min. DN 40 (with siphon)
Electricity connection : permanent 230V; 50Hz
(It is not a basic requirement to install an uninterruptable power supply.)
Under water pressure of 2,5 bar in the waterpipe system, it is not safe to complete
regeneration, so in case of a lower water pressure we advise you to install a
pressure intensifying pump system.

Due to the eventual hits of pressure and pressure fluctuation, a pressure reducer or
a mechanical filter equipped with a pressure reducer must be installed.
Pressure fluctuation must not exceed ±0,5 bar! It is important that the mechanical
filter filters out contamination bigger than 100 microns.
The device does not have any extra protection against water or electricity shortage.
If you need any, it must be ensured when installing.
Connection of the water softening device:
It is the customer’s job to have the water, sewage and electricity of the device
connected. The operator of the machine and the mechanic completing the
installation shall inspect if the device has been installed in compliance with the
descriptions in the guide for handling and use and if the conditions for reducing risks
coming from an eventual malfunction are provided. The commissioning of the device
can be completed either by the operator or the servicing partners of Euro-Clear
Magyarország Ltd. The commissioning of the device means only the setting of the
automatical control head in compliance with the local conditions.
When fitting, the standards valid for the local fitting, general instructions and general
hygienic standards and the technical parameters given above must be respected.
Principle scheme of the connection of the water softener:
1. Pre-filtering device with pressure reducer (100 microns)

3. Flexible tube pair
4. Control valve of the water softening device
5. Sewage drain
6. Electrical outlet
7. Ball valve (it can be bought in a shop )
8. Gravitation drainage
The ball valve („7”) and another kit for turning off must be placed in the pipe system
in front of the water softening device. The water softening device can be connected
into a horizontal pipe section, and we advise you to apply montage block „2"
(complementary part). The „by-pass” branch makes it unnecessary to create an
evasive pipe The montage block also contains a tap for taking sample. The pre-
filtering device which has got a pressure reducer of 100 microns (No. 1) or an even
more refined one and the montage block (No. 2) must be built into the pipe in
compliance with the following: the raw water must be connected to the filter „1”, and
the softened water that comes out must be connected to the montage block (No 2).
The connection between the water softening device and the montage block can be
done with the flexible tube pair No. 3. Applying a flexible pipe, the control head and
the pillar holding the resin can be protected from any mechanical tension.
When connecting, you must pay attention to the flow direction of the water. The flow
direction is marked with arrows at the connecting parts of the water filter(No. 1),

montage block (No. 2) and the control head (No. 4). You can find a plastic tube
outlet of ½” on the control head (No. 4). This outlet is the sewage output of the
device. The sewage that comes out must be led into the sewage canal. This can be
done with a plastic pressure resistant stem of ½” (No 5). The plastic stem needs to
be pulled onto the sewage outlet of the controlling head and it must be supported
with a tube pressing chain and it must be led up to the sewage connection with a
slope. The sewage comes out from the device under pressure, but its drainage
must be done with free outflow. The stem must be fixed firmly at the sewage outlet. It
is advised to build in a one-way valve on the soft water side in the network tube.
An electric plug underlaid of 230 V, 50 Hz must be built within 1 m of the device at
the height of the control head so that the electric cable of the water softener (No. 6)
is not tight.
Water comes out from the pre-filtering device (No. 1) during backwash. It is advised
to connect the sewage connection snag into the drain. In this case the sewage water
will come out under pressure, too. The backwash of the filter must be done manually,
so if needed, the rinsing water that comes out can also be led into a convenient
vessel. On the side of the regenerating tank of the water softening device there is an
overflow snag which the superfluous water can get through in case of a breakdown.
The safety overflow snag of the tank can be led to the sewage outlet point by a ½"
pressure resistant plastic tube. The water that eventually comes out does not have
any pressure, so it must be led to the sewage outlet or into the raiser by a slope. The
sewage outlet of operation of the water softening device and the overflow of the
brine tank can be connected to the sewage leading points respecting the following
rules.
In compliance with DIN 1988, the tube of rinsing water and the overflow must be
fixed at the sewage connection point so that the water can flow free. The tube must
be fixed at least 20 mm far away from the highest possible level of sewage water.
-Make sure that the sewage tube of the water softener and the overflow tube of
the brine are each connected separately into the sewage water. While
regenerating, the rinsing water that comes out of the control head (4) and has got
high pressure must not get into the brine tank.

Winterizing:
THERE IS A RISK OF FROST. The device can be used and stored only in a frost-
free area. The water from the pillar holding the resin cannot be removed, so it is not
possible to winterize the device with household stuff. If you wish to, you can ask for
help from a special servicing company, or you can transport the device to a frost-free
area after dismantling the water and electricity outlets.
IMPORTANT:
For a faultless operation, the water treatment device needs permanent water
pressure even when you do not produce any water. If you do not use up the treated
water , the water supply of the device still cannot be stopped.
Permanent water pressure can be provided by:
-Applying water from the city system
-Applying a pump system
-A hydrofor system.
In case of lack of permanent water pressure, the water softening device might not be
able to complete backwash and regeneration that might become necessary when
water is not being produced.
Process of measuring water hardness:
The kit that measures water hardness contains a measuring cup and a plastic vial
containing some titrating liquid. You can find the same liquid in both of the viols.
- Before testing, the measuring cup needs to be rinsed and then filled up with the
water sample to be tested up to the mark of 5 ml. Add a drop of titrating liquid to the
water sample in the cup, and then shake the 2 liquids gently.
- If the first drop of titrating liquid makes the water greenish, the tested water is soft
water.
If it is not the case, keep repeating the operation until the red colour of the mixture
gets greenish. Each drop of the titrating liquid is the equivalent of 1 German
hardness, so the hardness of the tested water sample is the same as the number of
the drops which are added as long as the sample has got greenish.
- By filling the cup up to the level of 10 ml, you can measure by 0,5 grades if you
follow the method mentioned above. In this case, 1 drop of titrating liquid will be the
equivalent of 0,5 German hardness.

type RX-63. With the help of the by-pass valve, it is fast, simple and practical to have
the water treatment device connected to the system. With the help of the valve, it is

It needs to be built in between the water treatment device (for example water
softening) and the pipe section of the network system.
With its special outlet, it can be connected directly onto the control head of the
water treatment device. Its 2 inlets and 2 outlets which close a 90 degree
angle with each other make it easy to build it into the water system. The
unused inlets and outlets can be simply closed by corks.

1. You can set the functions by turning the 2 handles.
2. The longer halves of the handles show the direction of the water flow. It is
marked with an arrow on valve body.
3. How to set hardness: (handle ) by turning the manual wheels in the same
angle. The enumerations 1,2,3,4,5 on the valve body make it easy to set
them into the same angle.

compared to the direction of water flow.

Warranty, guarantee
In case of non-perfomance by the producer, the owner of the device can benefit from
all warranty rights in 306-309. § in the Civil Code.
The owner of the device can claim for warranty and guarantee only by showing both
the receipt that has been received when buying the device and that proves the
payment of the complete price and the warranty document that has been filled in.
Warranty and guarantee do not cover faults that have been caused by the following:
The product has not been used properly, the instructions of the way of
handling, using, installing or maintening etc. have not been respected
the necessary corrective maintenance has not been completed, or has not
been done by the designated professional servicing company
the product’s nature has been transformed, changed
the owner of the device has not completed their liability of reducing risks of
damage
Warranty and guarantee claims can be validated only in case the operator of the
device sends to the producer both pages of the operation data sheet filled in and
signed by the professional mechanic in charge of setting up of the device. It must be
sent in a provable way.

In case the device is properly used, the producer undertakes a warranty of 12
months starting from the setting up, but maximum 18 months starting from the date
of issuing the quality certificate. In case the interval between the issuing of the
quality certificate and the setting up is longer than 6 months, the warranty of 12
months that starts from the setting up is only possible if the operator of the device
orders the setting up from the producer in written. In this case, the producer will send
a person to complete the setting up that has a partnership contract of servicing for
completing the setting up.

4. After finishing regeneration, check the hardness of the water coming down from the device.
Without back mix, is the hardness of the water made by the device lower than 1 gh? 
5. Set the water hardness up to at least 5 Gh in compliance with the regulation of the government
201/2001.
(The device can make water of lower German hardness, too.)
