Auto Camp igniting automotive professionals
New RV report the first of its kind in Australia
The automotive industry is currently
undergoing an innovation revolution with
the introduction of hybrid/electric vehicles,
autonomous vehicles and new fuel
technologies.
The Motor Trades Association of
Queensland (MTA Queensland) says the
future of the automotive sector is exciting
and that it has just the right school-based
program to get the younger generation
ready for the industry of tomorrow.
Auto Camp is a three-day school-
holiday program conducted by MTA
Queensland. Similar to work experience, it
allows students to learn the fundamentals
of combustion engines, servicing vehicles,
paint and panel repairs and naming and
identifying engine components. It includes
practical workshops, a circuitry project
and covers new topics such as hybrid/
electric vehicles and battery technology.
Auto Camp is open to high-school
students aged between 14-17 and a
chance for them to get some hands-on
experience and learn basic automotive
principles.
“MTA Queensland
launched Auto Camp
in 2018 after realising
there was a huge
gap between being
at school and getting
an opportunity to try
a trade that might be
of interest to a future
career path,” says
MTA Queensland
Deputy CEO Kellie
Dewar. “This course
will allow young adults
who are interested
in engineering,
motorsport, mechanics,
restoration, electronics,
design or manufacturing to get a taste of
the automotive world.
“We have had previous Auto Camp
students return to continue learning on our
five-week pre-vocational course and then
go on to secure an apprenticeship.”
Auto Camp will be offered during every
school-holiday break and the next course
is scheduled to held between April 9-11.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia, in partnership with
its state association members, is excited to announce the
release of its latest research report – RV Consumer 2018.
Caravan Industry Association of Australia says the inaugural
2018 RV Consumer Report is the most comprehensive
consumer study of its kind in Australia. It examines
recreational-vehicle purchasing and usage preferences among
current vehicle owners, former owners, potential new market
entrants and consumers who have limited preference for
buying into the RV lifestyle.
Throughout the report, the research demonstrates core
themes that are influencing RV ownership and purchasing
patterns. While there is a high demand for RV ownership in
Australia, there are also numerous challenges.
When it comes to current RV owners, the typical person is
aged 33 years old, with 71 per cent purchasing second-hand.
55 per cent plan to upgrade, with the most common reasons
for not yet having upgraded being financial ability and waiting
to find the right RV. Two out of five owners have children aged
under 15 at home, with the average household income being
between $48,000 to $72,000 per annum.
Having the financial ability to buy into and remain in the
RV lifestyle was the most significant factor across all RV
consumers, with 80 per cent of respondents saying the cost
of the RV was the most important factor influencing their
purchase.
Another significant trend was the importance of children.
Many consumers reported waiting for children to leave home
before purchasing an RV, while others were wanting to start a
family before purchasing or upgrading their RV. The research
also found consumers are significantly more likely to purchase
an RV if they had camped as a child.
When it comes to functionality and aesthetics, RV
consumers weighted practicality over niceties, with 40 per
cent saying road handling was the most important feature they
looked for in an RV. When considering a purchase, female
consumers placed a higher importance on more RV features
and amenities than males.
Societal changes are also impacting RV ownership patterns,
with 69 per cent of current owners stating that time constraints
such as work and personal commitments prevent them from
using their RV more. Increased urbanisation is also leading
to more people moving into smaller homes where they have
limited parking options for their RVs.
As this is the first year of this new reporting series,
which will be carried out every five years, the study sets the
benchmarks required to examine the Australian population to
understand shifts in consumer preferences, lifestyle choices,
buying and selling trends, purchase intention, RV features and
amenities preferences, rental and peer-to-peer usage, as well
as travel and leisure patterns.
The research is guided by a similar study undertaken
by University of Michigan in partnership with RVIA, which
also allows for benchmarks and comparisons between the
Australian and US markets.

Advanced manufacturer Redarc Electronics is known for its
world-class range of heavy-vehicle electronic products and this
year celebrates a very special milestone – its 40th year.
For 40 years Redarc has been researching, designing,
developing and manufacturing a range of electronic voltage
converters, inverters, power supplies, battery chargers, brake
controllers and trailer-braking products.
Redarc was founded in August 1979 by electronics engineer
Robin (Bob) William Mackie in South Australia. Mackie started
the business designing and manufacturing vehicle-ignition
systems and voltage converters.
This provided the technology for a mix of European and
American trucks needing to convert incompatible voltages
to the Australian truck standard of 12V. In fact, that is where
the name came from; the spark developed in the first ignition
system had a red arc.
In 1997– following Mackie’s passing – Anthony and Michele
Kittel, along with Michele’s father Denis Brion, purchased the
business.
The business has grown from humble beginnings over the
decades, starting with eight employees working in a tin shed
in Adelaide’s southern suburbs to becoming a world-class,
advanced electronics manufacturer servicing both domestic
and international markets and now employing more than 200
people.
“Redarc is not just a world-class manufacturing facility, it’s
an agile and innovative problem solver,” says Redarc Managing
Director Anthony Kittel. “We give our customers the confidence
in mission critical situations where things just have to work.
“At Redarc there are no limits to where you can go. Our
rugged products and customer obsession play a crucial role
in ensuring that, whatever your mission, you can get there and
back safely and confidently, secure in the knowledge that you
have left nothing to chance.”
Redarc has been able to buck the trend against the
offshoring of manufacturing in Australia. Kittel says its
business success has been based on identifying unmet market
needs and developing new solutions to address these and
implementing market-led strategic plans. He says everything
executed is underpinned by the company’s guiding values
and principles – innovation, customer satisfaction, teamwork,
integrity, quality and environmental awareness.
Now 40 years strong, Redarc’s $22m investment strategy
to scale up the business has resulted in the recent expansion
of its Lonsdale factory, the introduction of new state-of-the-
art manufacturing equipment and systems, the installation of
sustainable power infrastructure, new staff recruitment and
ongoing investment in its highly skilled workforce.
Redarc is also positioned to take its innovation and
manufacturing capability to a world class level. Kittel says
the completed expansion has already seen key areas of the
business grow while simultaneously improving processes and
the durability of its products. Impressively, it has given Redarc
the power to scale up production by more than 250 per cent.
Kittel says none of this would have happened without the
support from the industry, distributors, suppliers, trade and
other customers who back Australian manufacturers.
“Our growth can be attributed from having long-standing
relationships with these groups,” says Kittel. “Our success
today should be shared with those who have backed us from
the very start.
“I’d like to thank our customers across Australia, our
incredible team as well as our suppliers for the last 40 years
and we look forward to celebrating the next 40 years together.
We are committed to working for our customer base for the
long haul.”
Redarc has a range of activities planned in commemoration
of its 40 years. Kittel says the business sees it not only as
a celebration of what it has achieved but also a celebration
of the heavy-vehicle industry supporting Australian
manufacturers. Follow the celebration by visiting the Redarc
website and following it on social media.

CCAM - April 2019
Many businesses still put themselves at risk daily because they either do
not understand their contractor obligations or they just don’t do it.
For those who have nothing in place when something goes wrong,
then full responsibly lies with the business who engages the contractor.
The reality is they may as well have put them on their books as an
employee and at least their business might have been protected.
There are many businesses that believe they are doing the right
thing but there can still be many gaps or question marks. For example,
does the contractor’s insurance actually cover the work that is to be
undertaken or are drivers fully licenced?
Fact: There are contractors and employees driving vehicles that are
unlicensed.
Contractor management can be very challenging at the best of
times and is often over looked by businesses. Just because you hire a
contractor doesn’t mean your safety responsibilities are absolved or that
the contractor has the correct compliance documentation in order.
In this article, we’re going to discuss contractor management, what is
required while contractors are on your worksite – both at your business
location or on an external site – and what compliance documentation
they need to provide your business with.
What are your obligations as the business owner
under safety legislation?
As an employer you have a legal obligation for the Work Health Safety
(WHS) of any contractors working at your place of work or undertaking
work for you. Safety responsibilities in relation to contractors apply in two
directions:
1.The health and safety of any contractors or sub-contractors working on your
site advising and managing their compliance with the requirements of your
workplace.
2.Employing a contractor who you have engaged to undertake work for you.
What to do when you engage a contractor to
undertake work at your premises or worksites?
These may include electricians. Important processes in any contractor-
management procedure include:
•Youmustmakesurethecontractorandtheiremployeesyou
engaged have:
- The proper qualifications and licences.
- The proper Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and processes,
- The proper insurances and permits needed to undertake the task.
•Youneedtoinductthecontractorintothesafeworkprocessesofyour
site, including emergency procedures.
•Deningthedocuments,policiesandprocedurethatthecompany
requires the contractors to supply to your company (this will
illustrate the importance of WHS in their business and whether or
not the contractor is committed to safety and meeting their legislative
responsibilities).
•Monitoringandsupervisionofcontractorsafetyperformance.
•Makingsuretheyhavealloftherelevantandup-to-dateinsurancesin
place including:
- Workers’ compensation.
- Public liability.
- Professional indemnity.
- Any permits that are needed to undertake the work.
- Working with children (if applicable).
- Police checks (if applicable).
If your contractor is to sub-let any of the work you have contracted
them to undertake, they are also responsible for making sure they have
followed the same process described above.
True story
A small business owner who owned a fire sprinkler installation business
was flat out with work when another job came through, so he hired a
sub-contractor to undertake the work for him. Unfortunately, that sub-
contractor made a simple mistake of not checking the safety valve when
testing the sprinklers and therefore dowsed a $11mil machine with water,
destroying the machine. Investigations found the sub-contractor was
neither qualified or insured, therefore liability was on the original owner of
the fire-sprinkler company, which was enough to destroy his business.
It is so important to remember that if a contractor is undertaking work
for you, you must make sure they have the appropriate qualification, safe
workprocessesandinsurances.Youdon’twanttoplayRussianroulette
with your business, do you?
Contractor management can be tiresome and critical renewal dates
are often missed. Maureen Kyne & Associates implement an online-
management system to make it much easier to manage all critical
elements. Give them a call to set up a presentation and they will show
you just how easy it is to take control of your contractor management.

The Platinum range was launched four years ago and has
been designed to deliver quiet, reliable and efficient cooling
performance throughout Australia.
SERVICE - PRODUCTS- 8 - cover feature
Evakool has been associated with the manufacture and
supply of quality portable 12V refrigeration and iceboxes,
specifically designed to operate in the harsh Australian
environment, since 1994.
Not surprisingly, there has been a significant
improvement in the performance and features of 12V
refrigeration over the past 25 years and Evakool has been
keeping abreast of these changes with the introduction of
several new models over that timeframe.
Evakool has purposely designed their upright 12V
fridge/freezers to suit the extreme Australian conditions,
and are ideal for use in caravans, RVs and off-grid
properties.
More recently the company has introduced two ranges
of upright fridges to the Australian market, branded
Platinum and Elite.
Today Evakool proudly offers one of Australia’s largest
selections of 12V refrigeration. Being a local manufacturer,
the company can also design and custom-build 12V fridge
solutions for a variety of different applications.

efficiency while minimising power draw.
•EvakoolElite
Evakool released its new Elite in late 2017. The competitively
priced Elite range is the culmination of two years of research to
design an upright fridge that ensured ease of access along with
quiet, efficient and reliable operation anywhere in Australia.
The Elite range comprises three models:

The all new Evakool model DC 40 Drawer Fridge is claimed to
be the only unit in this class that operates as either a fridge or
freezer. It measures just 325mm high and has been purposely
designed so unused areas of a caravan or RV (e.g. under the
beds) can be converted into a fridge or freezer space.
Features include a fully insulated powdercoated metal
cabinet, easy-to-use digital controls with LED display, ‘turbo’
mode for faster cooling, self-diagnostic fault system and low-
voltage protection. Evakool says it is easy to open and slide
and has a secure closing mechanism, as well as a removable
internal tray for ease of cleaning.
This fridge offers the convenience of being accessible
from the outside of the caravan or RV, reducing the need to
continually enter the van to access the main fridge. The DC
40 is not limited for use in caravans. It can be fitted to camper
trailers or the back of the family 4WD, giving consumers the
chance to avoid the cost of a fridge slide.

TruckClaws have won several international
awards and are now available in Australia.
TruckClaws are a lightweight, compact,
all-season emergency tyre-traction aid
designed specifically to get your 4WD,
truck, SUV, farm vehicle or RV unstuck and
on your way in minutes.
TruckClaws are claimed to be more
effective in most situations than traditional
aids such as winches, ramps, straps, etc.
Unlike a winch, TruckClaws do not require
a nearby tree, rock or vehicle to tie off to.
Unlike ramps, which might get you out of
one hole, TruckClaws have been designed
to get you out of the whole bog and are
also claimed to be far more durable.
TruckClaws have been designed to be
simple to use and easy to install, even
after the vehicle is bogged – just attach a
single claw to the drive tyres on each side
of the vehicle. The basic kit consists of two
claws and the straps to enable them to be
attached to the wheels. It is claimed to take
less than 60 seconds to install each claw
and in most situations two claws (one each
side) is sufficient.
While the basic kit is suitable for
recovery from the majority of situations,
optional extension bars are also available
to further increase the drive area and assist
with situations where the vehicle is deeply
bogged in sand or mud.
TruckClaws are made from high-
quality aluminium and have received
several global awards, including three
at the Specialty Equipment Market
Association (SEMA) show, and were
recently named a top-10 invention of the
year at the World Ag Expo Show.
InnoTechRV is the exclusive Australian
distributor of TruckClaws and of the
InnoTechRV Tyre Pressure Monitoring
Systems. InnoTechRV has extensive
experience in the provision of innovative
technology and solutions in the
transportation, 4WD and RV markets in
Australia, New Zealand and the USA and is
a subsidiary of WiPath Communications, a
manufacturer and distributor of specialised
communications, fleet management and
display technologies worldwide.
An introductory deal is being offered
to dealers and resellers enabling the
purchase of four basic kits at the 16-kit
price for initial stocking and demonstration.

The Simplicity Load Sharing Coil Suspension, or LSC, is the latest
load-sharing independent suspension in the Simplicity Axles range.
Simplicity Axles has been manufacturing quality axles for the
caravan, agricultural and defence-force industries for 40 years.
The Simplicity LSC has been designed to deliver massive
wheel articulation (in excess of 200mm) while providing a low ride
height and low centre of gravity. Simplicity says this aids stability
and keeps the tyres in contact with road surfaces at all times, a
substantial benefit in greasy conditions.
The shock absorbers on the Simplicity LSC have been designed
to dampen only the springs and remain unaffected by non-
compressive articulation. This is claimed to greatly reduce heat
build-up in the shock absorbers and fade, helping to maintain
stability for longer periods in extreme conditions.
The LSC offers full off-road capability and utilises Simplicity’s
patented progressive rate ‘Smart Coil’ technology coupled with
quality Ultima 4x4 shock absorbers. LSC also includes Simplicity’s
proven two-piece 12-inch hub/drum assembly, featuring an all-steel
hub centre and replaceable brake drum.
Simplicity says the LSC offers a host of benefits to manufacturers.
It is built to order and supplied fully assembled, aligned and with
all components required for fitment. Simplicity says it is quick and
easy to install, offering huge savings in time and cost to caravan and
chassis manufacturers.
The Simplicity LSC is suitable for capacities from 2500kg to
4200kg (spring options apply) and individually stamped and rated
for gross trailer mass (GTM), as well as serial numbered for easy
aftersales identification.

Damp, dirty and smelly footwear is the last thing you want when you’re out exploring the best of nature.
Nikwax says its Footwear Cleaning Gel and Fabric and Leather Proof can keep your shoes clean, breathable
and waterproof, allowing you to say goodbye to soggy socks and hello to all-day comfort.
Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel has been formulated to eliminate water-absorbent dirt and stains and revitalise
the durable water repellency (DWR) by forcing any liquids or contaminants to bead on the outer surface and slide
right off. Unlike traditional cleaners that leave a water-attractive residue, ultimately hindering the DWR, Nikwax
Footwear Cleaning Gel has been formulated to renew the layer of DWR to enhance breathability and performance,
and make your shoes feel brand-new.
While Footwear Cleaning Gel can make your footwear waterproof, after many hikes and hundreds of kilometres,
your shoes may need a fresh layer of DWR to ensure your feet continue to stay dry adventure after adventure. This
is where Nikwax Fabric and Leather Proof comes in – it leaves a water-repellent treatment on your shoes that helps
to eliminate damp feet, and is available in either spray or sponge-on form.
Like the entire Nikwax range, these new products are palm-oil free, non-hazardous, water-based, biodegradable
and contain zero fluorocarbons.
Nikwax says its goal is to produce innovative and safe high-performance waterproofing, cleaning and
conditioning solutions for outdoor gear that are environmentally friendly and cruelty-free.

Why are Fold Away Antennas one of Australia’s favourite

depending on the circumstances.
Fold Away Antennas says its antenna and amplifier
package – when used correctly in conjunction with a
quality TV – can give campers high-quality TV reception
wherever there is a constant signal that is appropriate for
their TV. It weighs in at less than 2kg, including packaging
and can be fitted to any camper, RV or caravan. Fold Away
Antennas can also supply a mast-support kit for canvas-
sided camper trailers that it says is cheap, light, tough and
sturdy.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the Fold Away
Antenna, so it is extremely well tested. Fold Away Antenna
says it has full quality control over the product because
it makes and tests them itself in Australian conditions. It
backs its antennas with a 35dB amplifier for out-of-the-way
or remote areas, which it says gives an excellent success
rate in outback Australia.
The Fold Away Antenna is covered by a two-year
warranty, online support, explanatory instructions and
reviews. Fold Away Antennas says it can be contacted 24/7
via email for any troubleshooting requirements as well.
The company currently wholesales to a wide range of
RV suppliers, manufactures and spare-parts distributors.
It also has a free delivery service that it says most of its
customers are choosing to take up.

Keeping track of the distance travelled by a tow vehicle is easy
thanks to the odometers and trip computers that are a standard
fit on your average car. But it’s a different story when it comes to
a trailer or caravan.
Well, not any more thanks to the latest innovation from
Redarc Group company Hummingbird Electronics. Its new GPS
Trailer Odometer can be simply and permanently mounted to
any trailer, caravan or camper trailer and record the distance
travelled.
Hummingbird says the GPS Trailer Odometer is the perfect
device for manufacturers,
dealerships, rental
businesses, service agents
and end users who want to
improve the maintenance
of their trailers.
The GPS Trailer
Odometer incorporates
customisable service
intervals that allow the
user or service agent
to set a specified date
for a reminder and/or
set a specified distance
travelled (100km,
500km, 1000km or
10,000km).
The easy-to-read
colour screen notifies the user when a service interval has been
reached and an internal buzzer can also provide an audible
warning of when the defined distance has been reached.
Individual trips can also be recorded via a Trip A or Trip B
function.
“After speaking to a range of caravan and camper trailer
manufacturers, the need for a reliable and robust device that
could accurately measure the distance travelled by their trailers
was identified,” says Hummingbird National Sales and Marketing
Manager Mark Bruce. “It is multi-voltage compatible, meaning
it can be installed in both
12V and 24V systems, and
it can also be installed in
any orientation in the trailer.
These two factors allow for
a flexible installation into
any type of trailer.”
Hummingbird says the
GPS Trailer Odometer
has been designed and
manufactured in Australia
to the highest standards
of quality, just like all of its
products.

Keep track of a caravan’s mileage

ACCESSORIES - 15 -
CCAM - April 2019
These days most modern RVs and caravans carry two quite
separate sources of water. There is the dedicated and filtered
drinking water, which normally has its own tank and faucet,
plus there is the general household water. While the general
water needs to be of drinking quality, its main function is
supplying showers, washing machines and for cooking and
washing dishes.
The days of a single tank for everything are rapidly fading.
There is also the problem of having to recover the household
water when being self-contained is mandatory. This is usually
done by adding an extra tank at the rear of the van to capture
at least some of the grey water. This practice has inherent
hazards, not the least the removal of a substantial mass from
the axle group and the adding of that substantial mass to the
worst possible place – the rear of the van – which can result in
catastrophic destabilising of the van.
Safetank says it has solved these problems with a system
that recovers the used water back into the original tank.
The Safetank works by having the freshwater encased
within not one but two tough food-grade bladders – a food-
grade version of the material that has been used for decades
in truck fuel bladders – anchored inside a heavy-duty, marine-
grade aluminium tank. As the freshwater is pumped from the
bladder it collapses, creating extra room in the outer tank for
the return of the greywater, outside of the bladders.
The Safetank is about the same size as a standard 84-litre
tank but delivers around 90-litres of fresh and 90-litres of
greywater storage in a single unit.
Safetank says it has put the system through exhaustive
and tortuous testing both in the factory and in the field. Now,
having clocked up around a million kilometres bolted under
vans running all over Australia, Safetank says it can brag that it
hasn’t had a single tank failure, an impressive feat for any new
product but especially for one that spends its life underneath
the van, exposed to everything the road throws at it.
Safetank says installation is easy due to the tank typically
being able to use the cradle from the tank it replaces and its
unique plumbing.
Because the Safetank fills and empties through the bottom
of the tank, it allows an extra 180mm of fall. Safetank says
this allows showers to be fitted with a trap and results in a
freer flow, overcoming most of the drainage/smell issues with
caravan/RV showers.
The unique design of the Safetank’s plumbing also allows
the greywater tank to be bypassed completely when the van is
connected to a sullage pipe. Normally, the greywater passes
through the tank, creating a toxic reservoir if the van is parked
for several days.
Safetank says its tank gives customers an option they’ve
never had, while its simple fitting makes life easier for the
installer. With the ever-increasing need for self-containment,
there is now a sensible, safer alternative to adding another
tank at the rear of a van.

333 Power Solutions is an Australian manufacturer and distributor
that also exports internationally.
The company recently introduced a new range of batteries and
solar-storage batteries and has also relocated to new premises in
Clayton, Victoria, as part of its growth plan. It says both of these
developments will open many new opportunities with its clients.
333 Power Solutions says these developments also give it an
advantage in the market place for price and, most importantly,
quality and reliability. It says it can back its products 100 per
cent and give them a long product warranty because it is the
manufacturer.
Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries have a high energy density and are perfect
for cyclic applications. They offer savings of up to 70 per cent in
volume and weight compared to traditional lead-acid batteries.
They also offer ultra-fast charging and discharging, high efficiency
and three times as many charging cycles (more than 1500 full
cycles) compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. 333 Power
Solutions can supply lithium storage batteries and accessories
individually or as a package.
Solar panels
333 Power Solutions offers a range of Enerdrive mono and poly-
crystalline solar panels in the following sizes:
•10W,20W,40W,55W,80W,100W,120Wslim,150W,200W.
Control devices
Smart battery chargers use computer-generated algorithms to
collect data from the battery bank and make setting adjustments
to the charge current and voltage according to the data collected.
This means they can charge the battery bank faster, more
accurately and efficiently. 333 Power Solution’s range of battery
chargers will charge lithium, flooded, absorbed glass mat (AGM)
or gel batteries.
Inverters
333 Power Solution’s inverter charger immediately stops charging
the battery and releases the AC
transfer switch, which activates
the inverter and takes over the
supply to the connected loads.
The company says this is achieved
so quickly that even critical items
such as computers will continue to
operate without problems. Once the
AC power has been reconnected
and the voltage and frequency
are within acceptable limits, the
inverter charger activates the AC
transfer switch and battery charger
while deactivating the inverter. The
connected loads are then supplied
by the grid without any interruption.

Introducing NCE’s 12V Soundbar, which is claimed to be the first 12V
soundbar designed for the RV industry.
If you are like most RV enthusiasts you would understand how
important a TV is on your adventures on the road. It allows you to sit
down and relax, watch a movie or your team play and get a sense of
the comfort of home. In the past, older style TVs had enough space for
decent speakers. However, with the emergence of flat-screen plasmas
and LCDs we’ve seen an explosion in demand for extra speakers in
the form of a soundbar.
Soundbars are a must for modern TVs. That is because the slimline
design that everybody demands from the latest TVs do not have the
room to include high-quality sound.
This is particularly true for TVs that are designed for RVs. Generally,
they are a lot smaller, so their speakers are subsequently much
smaller, too. Smaller flat-screen TV speakers do not produce the clarity
and depth that larger speakers do. This can make it hard to hear,
particularly at low volumes, and often need to turn the television right
up – louder than necessary – just to be able to decipher what people
are saying.
Soundbars can solve that problem, enabling great sound clarity
even at low volume. If you’re a sports fan, a soundbar can give you life-
like sound quality to make you feel as though you are at the game.
Modern TVs have exceptional picture quality, so wouldn’t it be nice
to have sound quality to match?
The 12V Soundbar’s bass-reflex enclosure generates strong bass
sounds not typically found in such a compact system.
NCE says it is simple to install, operate and the power can
piggyback off the television power source, so no additional bulky
transformers or awkward cords are required.
The 12V Soundbar is powered by both 12V and 240V AC and
features four powerful speakers to produce exceptional sound clarity
and bass. Other features include a two-channel digital class 2 x 15W
RMS amplifier that allows for volume control on both the soundbar and
TV, an auxiliary input, two 2.5-inch midrange speakers, two 2.5-inch
bass drivers, a power-input splitter cable – enabling both the TV and
soundbar to run from a single power outlet – and mounting brackets
that allow for mounting above or below TV.
The 12V Soundbar measures 510mm (W) x 50mm (D) x 50mm (H)
and weighs just 550g.

Carefree Awnings and Accessories has launched its new Altitude awning, which it says represents a
new high in awning intelligence and style. It says this advanced awning will set any RV apart from the
crowd and boasts a long list of features typically only found on much higher priced products.
Carefree says the Altitude has been designed to make the outdoors the ‘coolest’ part of any RV with its
long list of contemporary technology, which includes operation through a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone
app that allows the user to extend or retract the awning, turn the LED light on or off (or dim it) and even
adjust Carefree Motion’s sensitivity to wind via their phone.
Carefree says the Altitude was developed to provide OEMs with an easy to install, contemporary patio
awning that fits the lifestyles and tastes of today’s younger, more
tech savvy RV buyers. It follows Carefree’s automotive styling and
has been designed to complement the caravan sidewall rather than
clutter it. Features include:

Sometimes a product comes along with versatility, performance
and adaptability that exceeds even the most optimistic outlooks.
Engel introduced its Drawer Fridge to the Australian truck
market a couple of years ago and says it has been a great
success, with truck sales yards fitting it as an aftermarket
accessory, some fitting it as a factory-fitted accessory and others
beingttedDIYbytheownerthemselves.
The Engel Drawer Fridge is DC only and can be hard-wired to
12V DC or 24V DC. It’s claimed to have a meagre current draw
of a little more than 2.7 Amps when running, which Engel says is
less than similar products on the market. While this unit is classed
as a refrigerator not a freezer, it is claimed to be capable of pulling
the temperature down to well below 0ºC.
The Engel Drawer Fridge has another unique feature – a
channel-and-fan system that is designed to allow the compressor
and electronics to breathe. While the unit is typically sealed when
fitted to a truck, 4WD or caravan, this channel gives the workings
of the unit the fresh air it needs to maintain its efficiency.
Engel says this feature is unique to its products and ensures
longer battery life and better performance. Power comes from a
new-generation Sawafuji Swing Motor that is claimed to deliver
the reliability Engel is famous for.
Three models are available. Option one has a rear-mounted
motor and a driver-side mount and passenger-side mount version
have recently been introduced. The standard rear-mounted unit
can also be converted to a remote-mounted unit. The compressor
and electrics can even be mounted up to 1.5m away, adding to its
versatility.
Engel says the 4WD and caravan markets have also picked up
on the versatility and adaptability of the Drawer Fridge, with many
being fitted to 4WDs, campers and caravans. Check one out at
your local retailer or a Caravan or 4X4 show near you soon.

Last year Australians experienced the
third hottest year on record and highs of
up to 47ºC in some capital cities.
Aussie Traveller says its new K3600
Air Conditioner unit has been designed
to ensure that high temperatures don’t
affect your travels.
Aussie Traveller Managing Director
Michael Freney says the roof-mounted
air-conditioning unit weighs 45kg but
is powerful enough to cool even larger
caravans and motorhomes.
“When temperatures are high,
travellers young and old can find the
conditions demanding, especially when
it’s too hot to stay inside, but outside
you and the kids run the risk of the
effects of the sun,” says Freney. “The
air-con unit is one of our most popular
products as it offers all the ability to
combat the heat in a stationary caravan
or RV of any size.”
Freney says the Aussie Traveller
3600W cooling and heating system
is unobtrusive, quiet-running and can
create a pleasant environment inside
when it’s tough going outdoors.
One of its unique features is its
continuous intake of five per cent fresh
air while the unit is operating. This
is designed to prevent the air from
becoming stale inside tightly sealed
modern caravans.

20A drawdown across the unit at any given time, as well as
an impressive 80 per cent depth of discharge (DOD). Power
outputs include two Ciga, one Engel, one Anderson, two
2.1mm ports and dual USBs (each output port has a maximum
of 10A), allowing a wide range of products to be powered.
The Nomad can be charged via a 25A regulated or 10A
unregulated input and features inbuilt battery management
system (BMS) and maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
controllers for protection. Plug in a regulated solar panel or a
DC-DC lithium charger, meanwhile, and Renewable Biz says
the Nomad should never run out of power. Dual LED display
monitors show current voltage and amperage drawdown in real
time and, if properly maintained, the unit has an expectancy of
600-800 cycles, adding to its cost-effectiveness.
Simply plug in a pocket inverter and you have a reliable
power supply for your laptop, fan or even a continuous positive
airway pressure (CPAP) machine while being off-grid.
Nomad says it has sold a Nomad unit to a fisherman in
Darwin who travels remotely for five weeks at a time and runs
an Engel freezer, Waeco fridge, fan and CPAP machine in
conjunction with a 160W regulated solar panel, and that he has
all the power he needs. It says another customer bought one
because he was unable to install a dual-battery system in his
vehicle and found the unit more versatile and practical than the
dual-battery system he was planning to install.
