IMPORTANT NOTE FOR YOUR VEHICLE‘S SERVICE STATION
After installation of the ESX Naviceiver inside the vehicle, the device is not recognized as the original radio and
causes an error message in the fault memory of the vehicle (depending on the vehicle, for example „Infotainment
CAN, no communication“). This error message is normal in connection with our ESX device and can not be deleted.

INSTALLATION NOTES / Installationshinweise
This guide is an installation aid for a proper installation of the device. Please read the following instructions prior installation:
1.) Please treat all parts of the sound system and the components of your vehicle with caution.
2.) Follow under all circumstance the regulations of the vehicle manufacturer and do not make any modifications
on the vehicle, which could interfere the driving safety.
3.) Please disconnect due to safety reasons the ground connection of the vehicle‘s battery before installation.
4.) Please ensure the correct polarity of all connections.
5.) Please do not modify or cut cables or jacks of the vehicle or the device, otherwise the warranty may be voided.
6.) Make sure that no cables are squeezed or cause a short circuit.
7.) Lead no cable before the airbags (e.g. dashboard) or in a manner that they will be impaired in their function.
Important Notes prior to installation:
Die Ihnen vorliegende Anleitung ist eine Einbauhilfe zur fachgerechten Montage des Geräts. Beachten Sie dazu die folgenden Hinweise
vor der Installation:
1.) Behandeln Sie bitte alle Teile des Soundsystems und die Komponenten Ihres Fahrzeugs grundsätzlich mit Vorsicht.
2.) Beachten Sie unter allen Umständen die Vorschriften des Fahrzeugherstellers und nehmen Sie keine Veränderungen
am Fahrzeug vor, welche die Fahrsicherheit beeinträchtigen könnten.
3.) Klemmen Sie vor der Installation aus Sicherheitsgründen den Masseanschluß der Kfz-Batterie vor der Installation ab.
4.) Bitte achten Sie stets auf die korrekte Polarität der Anschlüsse.
5.) Bitte modifizieren Sie keine Kabelsätze oder Anschlüsse des Geräts oder des Fahrzeugs oder der Garantieanspruch
könnte davon beeinträchtigt werden.
6.) Achten Sie unbedingt darauf, dass keine Kabel gequetscht werden oder einen Kurzschluss verursachen.
7.) Verlegen Sie keine Kabel vor den Airbags z.B. im Armaturenbrett oder in einer Art und Weise, dass diese in ihrer Funktion
beeinträchtigt werden.

WICHTIGER HINWEIS FÜR IHREN FAHRZEUGSERVICE/IHRE FAHRZEUGWERKSTATT
Nach Installation des ESX Naviceivers im Fahrzeug wird dieser nicht als Original-Radio erkannt und verursacht im
sogenannten Ereignis- oder Fehlerspeicher des Fahrzeuges eine Fehlermeldung (fahrzeugabhängig z.B. „Infotain-
ment CAN, keine Kommunikation“). Diese Fehlermeldung ist in Verbindung mit unserem ESX Gerät normal und kann
auch nicht gelöscht werden.

Installation hints:
Handbrake connection:
Connect the cable from the handbrake connection (16) with the handbrake
signal in your vehicle if the signal is not provided automatically via the CAN-
Bus. The signal must be connected with ground while the handbrake is applied.
Please contact for a proper and safe installation your car dealer! According to
legal regulations, the device must playback a DVD or video on the main screen
only with the handbrake applied. Never connect the the cable permanently
with the vehicle‘s ground. To prevent accidents by inattention while driving, the
screen is blanked. The video outputs (10) are not affected.
Handbremsen-Anschluss:
Schließen Sie den Anschluss (16) an das Handbremssignal im Fahrzeug an,
sollte das Signal nicht automatisch über den CAN-Bus anliegen. Das Signal
muss bei angezogener Handbremse auf Masse liegen. Bitte wenden Sie sich
für eine korrekte und gefahrlose Installation an Ihre KFZ-Fachwerkstatt! Ge-
mäß den gesetzlichen Bestimmungen darf das Gerät eine DVD/Videowiederga-
be auf dem Hauptbildschirm nur bei angezogener Handbremse wiedergeben.
Das Anschlusskabel darf deshalb nicht dauerhaft auf Masse liegen. Während
der Fahrt wird der Bildschirm zur Vermeidung von Unfällen durch Unachtsam-
keit dunkel geschaltet. Die Videoausgänge (10) sind hiervon nicht betroffen.
AUX/USB Port:
If your car is equipped with a factory USB and AUX port, the port is supported
by the device. For the USB port use the cable set (13, see page 10, #6), which
is equipped with a car-specific cable plug. Connect this plug with the original
USB-connector in the radio bay respectively behind the CD-drive in the glove
box. To select the AUX-Function in the device tap „AUX“ in the Apps-Menu.
AUX/USB Anschluss:
Sollte Ihr Fahrzeug über einen AUX/USB-Anschluss ab Werk verfügen, wird
dieser vom Gerät unterstützt. Verwenden Sie für die USB-Adaption dann das
Anschlusskabel (13, siehe Seite 10 #6) Dieses ist mit einem fahrzeugspezifi-
schen Stecker versehen. Schließen Sie diesen an den originalen USB-Stecker
im Radioschacht bzw. hinter dem CD-Laufwerk im Handschuhfach an. Um die-
se Funktion im Gerät anzuwählen, tippen Sie „AUX“ im App-Menü.
External DVD drive:
If your car is not equipped with the factory CD drive in the glove box, you
need the original glove box holder from Volkswagen to install the ESX DVD
drive. Alternatively, you can simply omit the ESX drive. The function of the main
device is not impaired.
Externes DVD-Laufwerk:
Sollte Ihr Fahrzeug kein werksseitiges CD-Laufwerk im Handschuhfach besit-
zen, benötigen Sie zur Installation des ESX-Laufwerks einen originalen Hand-
schufacheinsatz von VW. Alternativ können Sie das ESX-Laufwerk auch einfach
weglassen. Die Funktion des Hauptgeräts wird dadurch nicht beeinträchtigt.
Transportation lock:
Remove both transportation locks on top of the external DVD drive before you
start the installation.
Transportsicherung:
Entfernen Sie beide Transportsicherungen auf der Oberseite des externen
DVD-Laufwerks bevor Sie mit der Installation beginnen.

TMC cable antenna:
Connect the enclosed TMC antenna (17) with the USB port and then lay the an-
tenna to a suitable location on the windscreen. For optimal reception it should
be fastened to the windscreen by using the suction cups, A hidden installation
e.g. under the A-pillar or the dashboard is also possible.
TMC Kabelantenne:
Schließen Sie die beiliegende TMC Antenne (17) an den USB Anschluss an und
verlegen Sie dann die Wurfantenne an eine geeignete Stelle an der Frontschei-
be. Für einen optimalen Empfang kann diese an der Scheibe mithilfe der Saug-
näpfe befestigt werden, auch ein verstecktes Verlegen z.B. unter der A-Säule
oder unter dem Armaturenbrett ist möglich.
BT-Microphone:
Mount the enclosed microphone (14) at a suitable point such as at the A-pillar
(driver‘s side) or on the roof lining at the interior lamp. Avoid laying the cable
over the steering column. In general, the cable should be long enough to reach
a desired mounting point at the A-pillar (driver‘s side) while laying the cable
over the the passenger‘s side. A possibly existing factory microphone is not
compatible with the ESX device. Please use the supplied microphone.
BT-Mikrofon:
Montieren Sie das beiliegende Mikrofon (14) an einem geeigneten Montage-
punkt wie z.B. an der A-Säule (Fahrerseite) oder am Dachhimmel bei der In-
nenraumleuchte. Vermeiden Sie das Verlegen des Kabels über die Lenksäule.
In der Regel sollte das Kabel lang genug sein, um die A-Säule (Fahrerseite)
über die Beifahrerseite zu erreichen. Ein evtl. werksseitig vorhandenes Mik-
rofon ist nicht kompatibel mit dem ESX Gerät. Bitte verwenden Sie das mit-
gelieferte Mikrofon.
DAB-Antenna (if available):
Lay the DAB antenna (19) to a suitable location on the windshield. Clean the wind-
screen before and then stick the antenna housing on the screen. Note: The antenna
is not suitable for metallised windscreens.
Tip: The best results for DAB reception enables a separate roof antenna.
DAB-Antenne (falls vorhanden):
Verlegen Sie die DAB-Scheibenantenne (19) an eine geeignete Stelle an der
Frontscheibe. Reinigen Sie die Scheibe zuvor und kleben Sie dann das An-
tennengehäuse auf die Scheibe. Hinweis: Die Antenne ist nicht für metallbe-
dampfte Frontscheiben geeignet.
Tipp: Den optimalen DAB-Empfang ermöglicht eine separate Dachantenne.
GPS antenna:
The GPS antenna (15) must be mounted horizontally in front on the dashboard
(ensure a clear view to the sky).A metalized windscreen allows no reception. If
a GPS antenna with the same connector type (Fakra) is already available, it can
be used. Then the installation of the included GPS antenna is not necessary.
GPS Antenne:
Die GPS-Antenne (15) muss waagerecht, nach Möglichkeit vorne auf dem Ar-
maturenbrett montiert werden (auf freie Sicht zum Himmel achten). Bei einer
metallbedampften Scheibe ist kein Empfang möglich. Falls schon eine GPS-
Antenne mit dem selben Steckertyp (Fakra) bereits vorhanden ist, kann diese
verwendet werden. Die Installation der beiliegenden GPS Antenne entfällt.

Then loosen the display panel around on each side by using the mounting wedges
(refer to pg. 5). Be careful with the ventilation, remove if necessary the air outlet
vents completely with the panel.
Lockern Sie dann die Displayblende ringsum auf allen Seiten mithilfe der Monta-
gekeile (Siehe S. 5). Vorsicht mit der Lüftung, entfernen Sie ggfs. die Luftaustritts-
düsen komplett mit der Blende.
Loosen at first the lower A/C panel on each side by using the mounting wedges
(refer to pg. 5) in order to facilitate the installation.
Lockern Sie zunächst die Blende der Klimaautomatik ringsum auf allen Seiten
mithilfe der Montagekeile (Siehe S. 5) um die Installation zu erleichtern
Then loosen the display around by using 4 unlock devices (refer to pg. 5) and
remove carefully the display from the radio bay and disconnect all connections.
Lockern Sie dann das Display mithilfe von 4 Entriegelungsbügeln (Siehe S. 5) und
ziehen es vorsichtig aus dem Radioschacht. Lösen Sie dann alle Kabelverbindun-
gen.
Now unlock the original CD drive inside the glove box by using 2 mounting devices
(refer to pg. 5) and then pull it out carefully and disconnect all cable connections.
Entriegeln Sie jetzt das originale CD Laufwerk im Handschuhfach mit Hilfe von 2
Entriegelungsbügeln (siehe S. 5), ziehen Sie es vorsichtig aus dem Schacht und
lösen Sie dann alle Kabelverbindungen.

Remove the glove box. Loosen the two screws (T20) in the footwell at the marked
points on the image (refer also point 6).
Bauen Sie das Handschuhfach aus. Entfernen Sie im Fußraum zuerst die beiden
Schrauben (T20) an den auf dem Bild markierten Stellen (siehe auch Punkt 6).

Here you can see the exact position of the two screws (T20) of the glove box
holder.
Hier sehen Sie die genaue Position der beiden Schrauben (T20) der Hand-
schuhfachhalterung.
Open the glove box and unlock the flap by pressing the tabs on the marked points
upwards.
Öffnen Sie das Handschuhfach und entriegeln Sie die Klappe indem Sie die
Nasen an der gekennzeichneten Stelle nach oben drücken.
Remove the three screws (T20) as marked on the image and pull out the CD drive
glove box holder carefully.
Entfernen Sie die drei Schrauben (T20) wie auf dem Bild markiert und ziehen
vorsichtig den Halter des CD-Laufwerk heraus.
Remove the screw behind the installation location of the original CD drive.
Entfernen Sie die Schraube hinter dem Einbauplatz des originalen CD-Lauf-
werks.

Remove the side panel of the dashboard with a mounting wedge and lay the
cables of the GPS antenna and the BT microphone to the desired location.
Entfernen Sie die Seitenverkleidung des Armaturenbretts mithilfe eines Monta-
gekeils und verlegen Sie die Kabel der GPS-Antenne und des BT-Mikrofons zum
gewünschten Einbauort.

Connect the cable (4) with the original Quadlock-Plug and lay the new Quadlock-
Plug to the radio bay. The white jack of the cable (4) remain at the CD-drive bay in
the glove box for the connection of the new external DVD-drive (2).
Verbinden Sie das Kabel (4) mit dem originalen Quadlock-Stecker und verle-
gen den neuen Quadlockstecker zum Radioschacht. Der weiße Stecker vom
Kabel (4) verbleibt beim CD-Schacht im Handschuhfach zum Anschluss des
neuen externen DVD-Laufwerks (2).
Remove the screw as marked on the image. Now you can unmount the glove box
for an easier routing of the cables.
Entfernen Sie die Schraube wie auf dem Bild markiert. Nun können Sie das
Handschuhfach für ein besseres Verlegen der Kabel aushängen.
Connect the white connector (4) with the new ESX drive and then slide it into the
holder. But please do not slide it in completely into the slot until the functional test
is not finished.
Verbinden Sie den weißen Stecker (4) mit dem neuen ESX-Laufwerk und setzten
sie dieses dann vorsichtig in die Halterung. Schieben Sie es aber noch nicht kom-
plett in den Schacht bis die Funktionsprüfung abgeschlossen ist.

14 Now connect all connections according (refer to page 2-3) with the sockets on the
new ESX device. Plug in also the car specific and the antenna connector.
Schließen Sie jetzt alle Kabelstecker entsprechend (siehe S. 2-3) am neuen ESX
Gerät an. Schließen Sie ebenfalls den fahrzeugspezifischen Kabelstecker und den
Antennenstecker an.
13 Lay the connection cable sets of new ESX device (refer to page 2-3) inside the
vehicle to the desired location. Connect the USB-Adaptor (18) with the yellow
original car specific USB-port, if it is present. Lay also the cable of the GPS
antenna and the BT-Microphone to the desired installation location.
Verlegen Sie nun die Anschlusskabel des neuen ESX Geräts (siehe S. 2-3) im
Fahrzeug zum gewünschten Einbauort. Verbinden Sie den USB-Adapter (18)
mit dem gelben originalen fahrzeugspezifischen USB-Anschluss, falls dieser
vorhanden ist. Verlegen Sie ebenfalls die Kabel der GPS-Antenne und des BT-
Mikrofons zum gewünschten Einbauort.

At least set in the new Radio Panel (3).
Setzen Sie zuletzt die neue Radioblende ein (3).
After the successful check of the functions, re-assemble the new device in the
reverse order (steps #1-11).
Hint: Remove temporarily the new ESX drive for an easier assembly of the glove
box. The ESX drive should be pushed into the original VW slot until it automatically
locks, after everything is re-installed.
Führen Sie nach erfolgreicher Prüfung der Funktionen dann den Zusammenbau
(#1-11) in umgekehrter Reihenfolge durch.
Tipp: Entfernen Sie zwecks des einfacheren Zusammenbaus des Handschuhfa-
ches am besten vorübergehend das neue ESX-Laufwerk. Dieses wird, nachdem
alles wieder montiert ist, einfach in den originalen VW Schacht bis zum Anschlag
reingeschoben, es rastet dann automatisch ein.
Set the ESX device into the bay. Before you complete the installation of the new
ESX device, check its function. Please note that it may take up to 15 minutes, until
a GPS signal can be received (in the open).
Setzen Sie das ESX Gerät in den Radioschacht. Prüfen Sie vor dem Zusammen-
bau das neue ESX Gerät auf seine Funktion. Bitte beachten Sie, dass es bis zu
15 Minuten dauern kann, bis ein GPS Signal (unter freiem Himmel) empfangen
werden kann.
