NOTE: B sur th xtinguish r is rat d to fight th typ of fir
most lik ly to occur in th ar a you choos to install it. Sinc hous -
hold fir s commonly start in th kitch n, you should always install
an xtinguish r in th kitch n. For add d s curity, you should also
install additional xtinguish rs in utility ar as, and oth r living ar as in
your hous hold.
Model KFE2S5 is rated 5-B:C.
This unit is NOT rated to fight Class A fires.
READ BEFORE INSTALLING OR USING
THIS FIRE EXTINGUISHER!
Fire extinguishers are classified by fire type. The A, B and C
rating system defines the kinds of burning materials each fire
extinguisher is designed to fight. The numbers in front of the
A, B, or C indicate the rating for size of the fire the unit can
extinguish. Using the wrong type of fire extinguisher can do
more harm than good. Make sure you understand which fire
extinguisher to use on each class of fire!
Class A rating: Th ag nt/powd r is suitabl for
fighting small fir s involving wood, pap r, cloth,
rubb r, and som plastics.
Class B rating: Th ag nt/powd r is suitabl for
fighting small fir s involving gr as , oil, gasolin ,
k ros n , and oth r flammabl liquids.
Class C rating: Th ag nt/powd r is suitabl for
fighting small fir s in "liv " l ctrical quipm nt.
WHERE TO INSTALL THIS EXTINGUISHER
A Fire Extinguisher Should Be Mounted:
• In the vicinity of (but not on or in) a potential source of heat
and/or fire, like an oven or stove.
• Where it is easy to reach, near an exit or an escape route from
the room.
• In a location that is convenient, in plain sight, and 3-1/2 to 5
feet (1 to 1.5 meters) above the floor.
• Store the extinguisher high enough to keep it out of the reach
of small children.
• On a clean, dry surface where the temperature does not go
above 120 F (49 C) or below –40 F (–40 C).
HOW TO INSTALL THIS EXTINGUISHER
NOTE: Sinc wall surfac typ s vary, mounting screws are not
included. Purchas scr ws or bolts sp cifically d sign d for th sur-
fac on which you will mount th fir xtinguish r. Th fir xtinguish r
lab l lists its maximum w ight.
If you do not mount the fire extinguisher on the wall, you must
remove the cap and store it separately. Failure to remove the cap
from a free-standing extinguisher may prevent it from working
properly in an emergency.
1. Hold th xtinguish r with th
back (mounting surfac ) of th
cap facing you. Mak sur to
hold th m tal canist r, not th
plastic cap.
2. Grasp th r ctangular r l as
handl on th back of th cap.
Pull th handl up to r mov
th cap/brack t from th
xtinguish r as shown.
3. Install th mounting brack t on a
wood n stud or oth r solid surfac that
will support th w ight of th xtin-
guish r. Us 1-1/4” (3.17 cm) long #8
pan or round scr ws with a #8 wash r
as shown. Choos at l ast two of th
six hol s provid d on th Mounting
Brack t/Cap. Using two hol s that ar
opposit ach oth r (i. . th top and
bottom c nt r hol s) is r comm nd d.
Mounting scr ws ar not includ d (s
Not abov .)
4. Aft r installing th mounting brack t,
r plac th xtinguish r on th brack t with
th lab l facing outward, so th lab l can
b asily r ad.
• Do not mount the extinguisher on drywall or plaster without
adequate support. Use strong screws or bolts to mount the
bracket securely into solid wood or metal that can support it,
like a wooden partition stud. Secure mounting is needed so
you can remove the extinguisher quickly and easily in an emer-
gency. Also, if the extinguisher is not held securely, it could
drop to the floor and injure people or damage the extinguisher.
•Do not break the plastic loop holding the safety pin in place!
This loop prevents accidental discharge of the fire
extinguisher. Break the loop only in an emergency before
using the fire extinguisher.

6. Sw p th spray at th bas of th burning mat rial, using quick
sid -to-sid motions. (If th spray scatt rs th fir , mov back.)

if possibl , oth rwis as soon as it is saf .
10. If you susp ct a fir had an l ctrical origin, shut off th l ctrical
pow r, if possibl , without liminating your scap rout . Do not
touch l ctrical wir s or applianc s.
11. Aft r you hav compl t ly discharg d your xtinguish r, l av th
building and clos all th doors b hind you.
AFTER THE FIRE IS EXTINGUISHED
Do not turn the electrical power back on or plug in any appliances
until the area has been cleaned up completely. It is very important
to remove the powder from electrical equipment after a fire. If the
powder gets wet, it can conduct electricity. (Using a dry chemical
extinguisher on wet electrical equipment may be hazardous for this
reason.) This may worsen an electrical leakage problem, impair the
equipment’s insulation, or create an electrical shock hazard.
If the fire was on a kitchen stove:
• Mak sur th ov n and all burn rs ar turn d off.
• Cl an up th powd r compl t ly b for using th stov or ov n.
S “How to Cl an Aft r Using a Fir Extinguish r”. V ntilat th
ar a thoroughly.
If you think the fire had an electrical origin:
• Shut off th l ctrical pow r, if possibl --do not touch any
l ctrical wir s or applianc s.
• L av th building and clos all doors b hind you. Call th Fir
D partm nt and hav th m insp ct th ntir hous . As soon as
th y say it’s saf to r turn, v ntilat th ar a thoroughly.
• Hav a lic ns d l ctrician insp ct your l ctrical syst m. Do not
turn th pow r back on or plug in any l ctrical quipm nt until
th insp ction has b n compl t d.
• Make sure your extinguisher may be safely and effectively
used on the small fire you want to fight. Always use extreme
caution when fighting any fire. Fight a fire only where there is
a clear escape path to allow you to get out safely if the fire
gets worse.
• Avoid breathing smoke and heated fumes; stay low if
necessary. Burning materials will release toxic fumes.
Inhaling these fumes may cause injury or death.
•Always stand back far enough away from the fire—near an
exit—and make sure nothing is between you and your
escape route. If you get too close to a fire, you risk getting
burned or hit by splattering material like grease. If the fire
is too hot or smoky for you to get within 6 feet (2 meters),
DO NOT try to fight the fire yourself. Evacuate immediately
and call the Fire Department.
•For fires on a kitchen stove, turn oven or burners off
immediately if possible. If you can’t reach the oven or burner
controls safely, extinguish the fire first, then turn them off.
•Fight the fire from an upwind direction with your back to any
strong air current. Trying to fight a fire with currents blowing
towards you can result in serious injury.

that have just started and are small enough to fight safely.
It is not designed to fight large fires that are burning out of
control. If the fire is too hot or smoky for you to get within
