1.2 Information Regarding This Instruction & Operation Manual
This manual helps in handling the device safely and efficiently. This manual is part of the device and must
always be stored near the device during its entire service life so that it can be referred to by the personnel
whenever required. Personnel must read this manual carefully and understand it before starting all
activities. Adhering to all safety and handling instructions specified in this manual is the basic prerequisite
for working safely. Furthermore, locally applicable accident prevention regulations and general safety
regulations shall be applicable for the area of application of the device. Figures in this manual are meant
only for fundamental understanding and may vary from the actual model. In addition to this manual,
manuals of installed components listed in the annex shall be applicable.

2 Safety
2.1 Intended Use
This device is exclusively intended for feeding and compressing gases and vapors.
Mediums must be selected in accordance with the material compliant and as specified in thecontractual
conditions. Intended use also includes adhering to all other instructions and threshold values mentioned
in this operating manual.
This device has been designed and developed exclusively for the intended use described here. Any
usage that goes beyond or deviates from the intended use shall be considered as misuse.
Anytypes of claims resulting from unintended usage shall be ruled out. The operating companyshall be
solely responsible for all damage caused due to unintended use.
2.2 Foreseeable Misuse
WARNING! Risk due to misuse.
Any usage that goes beyond and/or deviates from the
intended use may lead to hazardous situations.
Under specified process conditions, hazardous mixtures may
not be fed, such as:
 Combustiblesubstances
 Explosivesubstances
 Toxic substances
 Radioactivesubstances
 Corrosive gases or vapors
2.3 Normal Source of Danger
Remaining risks derived from the risk analysis are described below.
Adhere to the safety instructions listed here and warnings included in subsequent sections of this
manual to reduce health hazards and hazardous situations.
2.3.1 High Voltage / Current
Danger! To life due to high voltage / current.
Therefore:
 Only qualified electricians may work on electrical
components.
 De-energize the device and ensure that it is
completely de-energized before working on it.
 Before working on the device, wait until the
condensers are completely discharged (see Table 10
in section 11.2).
 Secure the device against re-starting.
 Work only if the electronic unit housing of the device is
closed.

2.3.2 Gases & Vapors
Danger! To life due to gases and vapors.
Therefore:
 Ensure that the room is adequately ventilated.
 When assembling and dismantling the device, ensure
that hot, toxic and/or corrosive mediums do not
escape from open pipes.
 Secure shut-off devices against unauthorized
actuation.
2.3.3 Hot Surfaces
Warning! Risk of burning due to hot surfaces.
Therefore:
 Before starting any activity, ensure that all
components are cooled down to the ambient
temperature.
 Wear protective work clothing and safety gloves
when working near hot components.
Surfaces of inlet, outlet pipes and pump casing may be hot.
The operating company of the device must ensure that the
corresponding sign is affixed.
2.3.4 AccumulatedLiquid
Warning! Risk of slipping due to accumulated liquid.
Therefore:
 Wear protection shoes.
 Remove leaked liquids and dispose them of properly.
2.3.5 Dirt and Scattered Objects
Warning! Risk of tripping due to dirt and scattered objects.
Therefore:
 Keep the work area clean.
 Remove the objects that are no longer required.
 Mark the tripping points using the yellow-black
marking tape.
2.3.6 Noise
Warning! Risk of impairment due to noise.
Therefore:
 Wear ear protectors compliant with the prevailing
regulations.

2.3.7 SuspendedLoads
Danger! To life due to falling load.
Loads may swivel and fall when lifting. This may lead to
serious injuries which could sometimes be fatal.
Therefore:
 Do not linger under suspended loads.
 Maintain an adequate safety distance when
transporting the loads.
 Use reliable and flawless lifting devices.
 Adjust the length of lifting devices such that the loads
are attached horizontally.
2.3.8 Sharp edged and pointed corners
Caution! Risk of injuries due to sharp edges and
pointed corners.
Sharp edges and pointed corners may lead to abrasions and
cuts on the skin.
Therefore:
 Be careful when working near sharp edges and
pointed corners.
 Wear safety gloves in case of any doubt.
2.3.9 Chemicals / Medium
Danger! Risk of poisoning, irritations to the skin and
serious damage to eyes due to chemicals.
Therefore:
 Wear safety gloves.
 Wear protective goggles.
 Wear protective work clothing.
 When assembling and dismantling the device, ensure
that toxic and/or corrosive mediums do not escape
from open pipes.
 Adhere to the prevailing regulations and safety
measures for corresponding mediums when handling
the chemicals.

2.3.10 Unauthorized Alterations, Spare Parts and Accessories
Warning! Risk of injuries due to modified device.
Unauthorized alterations, modifications in the device or using
non-approved accessories may cause damage, malfunctions
and impair safety.
Therefore:
 Do not modify the device.
 Use original spare parts.
 Use only the accessories approved by the
manufacturer.
2.3.11 Hydrostatic Pressure Test of the Piping System
Notice! The device may get damaged if the hydrostatic
pressure test of the piping system is not conducted
properly.
Therefore:
 When conducting the hydrostatic pressure test of the
piping system, shut off the inlet and outlet pipes of
the device.
2.3.12 Substances Harmful to the Environment
Notice! Improper usage of hazardous substances may
damage the environment.
Therefore:
 Adhere to the prevailing regulations when handling
the substances harmful to the environment.
 Dispose of the substances harmful to the
environment carefully.

2.4 Responsibility of the Operating Company
The operating company is the entity who operates the device for commercial or economic purposes or
appoints a third-party to use it and who bears the legal product responsibility for protecting the users,
personnel or third-parties. The device is used commercially. The operating company of the device is
therefore subject to statutory obligations for industrial safety. In addition to safety instructions in this

2.5 List of Technical Competencies

Improper handling may lead to serious personal injuries

Only the persons specified in corresponding sections
of this manual may carry out the special activities.
Only the persons, who can execute their tasks reliably, may be appointed. Persons, whose ability
to react are affected due to drugs, alcohol or medicines, are not allowed. Adhere to the age and
profession-specific regulations applicable at the installation location when selecting the personnel.
The following qualifications for different areas of activities are specified in the operating manual:

Flowserve SIHI Pumps Service Technician appointed by Flowserve SIHI Pumps.
Operating Company:
a. Trained Personnel:
The person has been trained on the tasks entrusted to him/her and possible hazards during a
training program by the operating company.

Trained person appointed by the operating company for service activities.
c. Operator:
Trained person who uses and operates the device for intended purpose.
Expert:

b. Qualified Electrician:
Owing to his/her technical education, technical knowledge, experience and the awareness about
prevailing standards and regulations, an expert can work on electrical systems and identify and
prevent potential dangers independently. The qualified electrician is specially trained for the area
of application in which he/she is working and knows the relevant standards and regulations. The
qualified electrician must fulfil the requirements in the applicable statutory accident prevention
regulations.
c. Stacker/Crane Drivers
A stacker or crane driver must have suitable physical, mental and behavioral characteristics to drive
industrial trucks having a driver's seat or driver's control panel, or cranes.
Furthermore, the stacker or crane driver must be trained specially to drive industrial trucks having
a driver's seat or driver's control panel, or cranes. The stacker or crane driver must prove his/her
abilities of driving industrial trucks having a driver's seat or driver's control panel, or cranes to the
operating company and the operating company must then give a written appointment letter.
d. Warehouse Expert:
A warehouse expert can execute warehouse-related tasks, and can identify and prevent possible
hazards independently based on his/her technical education.
e. Process Control (PLT) Expert:
Thanks to his/her technical education, a PLT expert can install and operate electrical, mechanical,
hydraulic and pneumatic devices and systems as well as can identify and prevent possible hazards
independently.
