Fostex T96A-EX2 User manual

Refining the fitting and engagement of individual parts,
diaphragm, horn and equalizer of FT96H, T96A-EX2 is
designed to reproduce a speedy and widespread sound in
the high frequency region with moderate sounding and
afterglow. Used together with a full range speaker unit or a
compete speaker system, its superb characteristics improve
the sound reproduction quality.
• Brass ring / Specially matte finish horn + brass equalizer
Using a brass at the horn opening section as well as the equalizer
eliminates an unwanted sound generated from the horn to the
sound wave output from the aluminum ring diaphragm. A special
matte paint finish on the whole horn section lowers an unneces-
sary reflection and realizes a speedy and widespread super high
frequency range reproduction.
• Aluminum ring diaphragm / tungsten vibration deadening
material + special vibration absorbing material
The aluminum diaphragm outer section is solidly fixed by the
aluminum ring for an accurate operation against the input signal.
The tungsten vibration deadening material is inserted between
the ring and the magnetic circuit so that an unnecessary vibration
is not transmitted to the magnetic circuit. Placing the special
vibration absorbing material between the aluminum diaphragm
and the horn reasonably reduces the diaphragm-specific
resonance sound and emits an accurate sound wave to the horn.
• Alnico internal disc magnet circuit / Copper coated pole
piece + copper cap
The same size of alnico magnet as T90A is employed. Attaching
a copper cap to the copper coated pole piece reduces a harmonic
distortion and realizes clear and brilliant high frequency repro-
duction.
• Gold coated copper terminal / ø1.4 mm copper/silver alloy
internal wiring material
The terminal post which a thick speaker cable can be connected
without stress is employed. Using a ø1.4 mm copper/silver alloy
internal wiring material reduces a loss on the transmission path to
the voice coil.
Setting the cross-over frequency at 8 kHz or higher with
-12dB/oct is recommended.
T96A-EX2 can be easily added to the speaker system with a
simple network (one capacitor). Refer to the following applica-
tions together with the frequency response charts.
Application 1 - FE166En + BK166En
Connect T96A-EX2 with 0.33 µF capacitor in reversed connec-
tion to FE166En speaker unit and BK166En back loaded horn
enclosure. T96A-EX2 should be placed evenly with the
BK166En front baffle.
Application 2 - FF165WK + BK165WK
Connect T96A-EX2 with 0.33 µF capacitor in normal phase
connection to FF165WK speaker unit and BK165WK bass
reflex enclosure. T96A-EX2 should be placed 4 mm forward
from the BK166WK front baffle.
Application 3 - FF225WK + BK225WK
Connect T96A-EX2 with 0.33 µF capacitor in normal phase
connection to FF225WK speaker unit and BK225WK bass
reflex enclosure. T96A-EX2 should be placed evenly with the
BK225WK front baffle.
Using T96A-EX2 without the network circuit or the cross-over
frequency is set below the recommended frequency (8 kHz)
could be a cause of trouble.
In order to avoid the sound quality degradation, use a high
quality network components.
Pay attention not to let the dust, rubbish and iron powder into
the horn.
