installationletstakealookattheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunit.
1)PowerButton–YouwillneedtoleavetheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunit
oncontinuously.TheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunitcanbelefton
continuouslyforupto12hoursbeforeyouwillneedtorechargeit.
2)AlertButton–Slidetheswitchandpushitdowntoactivateyouralert
button.OncethebuttonispressedtheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunitwill
sendasignaltoyourphonewhichwillthensendyourlocationandmessageto
yourpre‐selectedcontacts.
3)MiniUSBchargingport–InserttheMiniUSBcablefromyourcar,wallorPC
chargingcableheretochargetheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunit.To
rechargefullyfromflatwilltakearound2‐3hours.
4)BluetoothLED(Blue):
•Onsolid–Readyforconnection
•Flashing(withGPSsignalLEDonsolidorflashing)–connected.

TheFreedomPersonalSafetyworksintwoways.
FirstasanAlertbuttonwhichwhenpressedwillautomaticallysendauser
definedmessageandmapofyourlocationtoyourpre‐selectedcontacts.By
simplychangingthetextofthemessagetheAlertbuttoncanalsobeusedfora
numberofotherpurposes,suchas:
•Aquickwayforfieldworkerstoinformtheofficewhenthehave
arrivedonsite.
•Tellingfriendsthatyouareatapartyandtocomeandjoinyou.
•Whenholdingabusinessconferencetellingmultiplecontactsexactly
whereyouarelocatedandinvitingthemtocomeandmeetyou.
Thesecondwayitworksisasalocationsystem.Youselectwhichcontactsyou
wanttobeabletocheckyourlocationandaspecial“securityphrase”.When
oneofthesecontactssendsyouthispre‐selected“securityphrase”theFreedom
PersonalSafetywillsendthemamapofyourcurrentlocation.Thiscanalsobe
customisedforanynumberofsituationssuchas:
•Checkingwhereyourchildiswhentheyarelatehome.
•Beingabletoquicklylocatewherefieldworkersarewithouthaving
tocallthem.
•Findingfriends,familyorcolleaguesinbusyareas.

1)TurnyourFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSuniton.
2)OnyourBlackBerrygotoOptions(sometimescalledsettings)thenBluetooth
andselectsearchforanewdevice.
3)AfterithasfinishedsearchingselecttheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSfrom
thelistoffounddevices.
4)Whenaskedforapasskeyenter0000(fourzeros)andpressOK.
5)YoushouldnowseetheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSlistedunderthepaired
devices.
InstallingtheFreedomPersonalSafetyonyourBlackBerry.

UsingtheFreedomPersonalSafetyonyourBlackBerry.
1)TheFreedomPersonalSafetyapplicationwillbelocatedeitheronyourmain
applicationsmenu(withallofyouricons)orwithinthedownloadsfolder
dependingonthemodelofyourBlackBerry.
2)RuntheFreedomPersonalSafetyApplication.Whenyouruntheapplication
forthefirsttimeitwillaskyouanumberofapplicationpermissionquestions:
•WhenaskedifyouwanttogivetheapplicationTrustedApplication
Statusselect“Yes”.
•Whenaskedifyouwanttoallowtheapplicationtoactasaserver
tickthe“donotaskforSMS”andclickallowforboththefirsttime
andthesecondtime(forreceiving).

•Onceyouhaveaddedcontactswehighlyrecommendyousenda
demoalerttotestthesystem.Whenthealertfeatureisactivatedfor
thefirsttimeyouwillbeaskedifyouwanttoallowtheapplicationto
actasaserverforSMSsending.Tickthe“donotask”boxandclick
“Allow”.
QuickTip:TheBlackBerryOperatingSystemrequiresyoutomanuallyallow
thesepermissions.Inshort,click“Allow”oneveryoptionthatpopsupandifithas
a“donotaskagain”checkboxmakesurethisisselected.Alsomakesurethatyou
testtheAlertButtonandFindmepartsonceyouhaveaddedcontactsasyour
BlackBerrymayaskforadditionalpermissionstobeallowedthefirsttimeeachis
activated.
RunningtheFreedomPersonalSafetyApplication.
Theapplicationhastwosections,PersonalSafetyandGPSSignalStrength.
WhenyouruntheapplicationyouwillbeshowntheGPSconnectingscreen.
Selectthe“FreedomPersonalSafetyGPS”fromthedropdownlistandclickon
connect.IfforanyreasonyouneedtoreconnecttheGPSunitatanytimeyou
canbringuptheGPSconnectingscreenbypressingthemenubuttononthe
homescreenofthePersonalSafetyapplicationandselecting“ReconnectGPS”.
GPSSignalStrength
ThisshowsdetailedinformationaboutyourGPSsignalsuchashowmany
satellitesareinview,whatyourco‐ordinatesareandthesignalstrengthofeach
connectedsatellite.
PersonalSafety
Thisissplitintotwotabs.SOSsettingsforchangingthe“AlertButton”settings
and“FindMe”settingsforchangingthepreferencesforthe“FindMe”partof
theapplication.
SOSSettings:
AddContact–ClickheretoaddthecontactsthatwillreceiveyourAlert
messageandyourlocationwhenyoupressthealertbutton.
Removingacontact–Toremoveacontactfromthelisthighlightthecontact,
pressthemenubuttonandselectremove.

Changingthetelephonenumberusedforacontact–Ifacontacthas
multiplephonenumbersyoucanselectwhichnumberthemessageissentto.
Todothisafteraddingthecontact,highlightthecontactinthelist,pressthe
menubuttonandclickonselectnumber.BydefaulttheFreedomPersonal
Safetyapplicationwillusewhichevernumberislistedunderthe“Mobile”field
inyouraddressbook.
SMSText–Hereyoucanchangethedefaultmessagethatissentwhenyou
presstheAlertbutton.
FindMeSettings:
Addingandremovingacontact–Youcanaddandremovecontactsinthe
samewayasyoudointheSOSsettings.Thecontactsyouaddtothislistwillbe
abletoautomaticallyreceiveamapofyourcurrentlocationbysendingyouthe
correct“lookupphrase”bytext.
Importantnote:Pleaseensurethatthephonenumberintheaddressbookforthe
peopleyouselectisenteredexactlyasdisplayediftheyweretocallyou.Formost

andnowIcannotchangeit.
A)Youwillneedtoresetthe“firewallprompts”fortheFreedomPersonal
SafetyApplication.Todothisfollowtheinstructionsbelow:
1. Goto“Settings”or“Options”onyourmainBlackBerryScreen.
2. Goto“AdvancedOptions”.
3. Goto“Applications”.
4. Pressthe“Menu”button(theonetotheleftofthetrackball)and
select“Modules”.
5. Highlightthemodulebeginningwith“fc_personal_safety”pressthe
“Menu”buttonandselect“EditPermissions”.
6. Pressthemenubuttonandselect“ResetFirewallPrompts”.
Q)IcannotconnecttotheFreedomPersonalSafetyGPSunit.
A)FirstmakesurethattheGPSunitisturnedon,theBluetoothisenabledon
theBlackBerryandthattheGPSunitispaired.
IfitisstillnotconnectingthentryremovingthepairingfortheFreedom

15)Pressthe“Menu”buttonandselect“NewOutgoingPort”.
16)Onthenextscreenselectthe“FreedomPersonalSafetyGPS”fromthelist.
17)SelectanyoftheavailableCOMportsandmakeanoteofthenumber.
18)Untickthe“SecureConnection”checkbox(optionalbutsomenavigation
softwarewillnotbeabletoconnecttotheGPSreceiverifthesecureconnection
isenabled).
19)Clickthe“Done”button.Youshouldnowseethe“FreedomPersonalSafety
GPS”withaCOMportlistednexttoit.

ThisshowsdetailedinformationaboutyourGPSsignalsuchashowmany
satellitesareinview,whatyourco‐ordinatesareandthesignalstrengthofeach
connectedsatellite.
SOSSettings:
ToaccesstheSOSsettingsfromthemainapplicationmenuclickontheAlert
buttonSettings.
AddContact–ClickheretoaddthecontactsthatwillreceiveyourAlert
messageandyourlocationwhenyoupressthealertbutton.
Removingacontact–Toremoveacontactfromthelistholddownthestylus
onthecontacttobringupthemenuandselectremove.

buttonSettings.
