GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
Thisappliance must be grounded to ametal,
permanent wiring system, or an equipment
grounding conductor must be run with the circuit
conductorsand connected to the equipment
grounding terminal or lead on the dishwasher.
See the Installation Instructions included with
thisdishwasher for more information on electrical
requirements.
• Do not tamper with or override controlsand
interlocks.
• Do not abuse, sit on, or stand on the door or
dish basketsof the dishwasher.
• To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow
children to play in or on the dishwasher.
• When children become old enough to operate
the appliance, it isthe legal responsibility of
the parentsor legal guardiansto ensure that
they are instructed in safe practicesby
qualified persons.
• Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may
be produced in ahot water system that has
not been used for two weeksor more.
Hydrogen gas isexplosive. Before using a
dishwasher that isconnected to ahot water
system that has been unused for two weeks
or longer, turn on all hot water faucetsand let
the water flow from each for several minutes.
Thiswill release any accumulated hydrogen
gas. Asthe gas isexplosive, do not smoke or
use an open flame during thistime.
• Remove the door to the washing
compartment when removing an old
dishwasher from service or discarding.
•Toavoid floor damage and possible mold
growth, do not allow wet areas to remain
around or under the dishwasher.
• Protect your dishwasher from the elements.
Protect against freezing to avoid possible
damage to the fill valve. Damage caused by
freezing isnot covered by the warranty.
Electrical shock or fire could result if the
electrical supply for the dishwasher
covered in this manual is incorrectly
installed or if the dishwasher has been
improperly grounded. Do not use the
dishwasher covered in this manual if you
are not certain the electrical supply has
been correctly installed or the dishwasher
has been properly grounded.
WARNING
Severe product damage and/or injury could
result from the use of unqualified service
technicians or non-original replacement

Dishwasher Features and Options
Advanced Noise Reduction System: A two
pump motor system, the Suspension Motor, and
triple insulation make our dishwashersthe
quietest in North America.
Condensation Drying: A high temperature final
rinse, alow temperature stainless steel tub, and
the sheeting action of arinse agent result in
drying that ishygienic, energy efficient, and
economical.
Time Remaining Display: A digital readout that
countsdown the time remaining in the cycle, and
isalso used in setting other options.
Alternating Spray Arms: Reduceswater, energy
consumption and noise by alternately distributing
water to either the upper, lower, or both spray
arms.
Exceptionally Low Water Usage: Aslittle as 3.2
gallonsin the Quick Wash cycle.
Filter System: Four filtersensure distribution of
clean water and protect the main pump and the
drain pump from foreign material.
Flow-Through Water Heater: Heatswater to a
temperature of up to 161°F.
Nylon Baskets: Eliminate cutsand nicks, and
have afive-year warranty.
Refill Rinse Agent Indicator: The control display
reads“Refill Rinse Agent” when the rinse agent

Dishware Preparation
Do not pre-wash itemshaving loosely-attached
soiling.
Remove large food particles, bones, seeds,
toothpicks, and excessive grease.
Itemshaving burned-on, baked-on or starchy
soilsmay require pre-treatment.
Loading the Dishwasher
Check the Materialssection of thismanual if you
are unsure about an item’sdishwasher suitability.
Load only dishwasher-safe itemsinto the
dishwasher.
Load dishesin the dishwasher basketsso that
the insidesof bowls, pots, and pansare facing
the spray arms. Avoid nesting and contact points
between dishes.
Separate itemsof dissimilar metals.
NOTE: Make sure itemsdo not protrude through
the bottom of the basketsand block the spray
arms.
Recommended
Aluminum: Colored anodized aluminum may fade
over time. Mineralsin your water may cause the
aluminum to darken or spot. Thiscan usually be
removed by using asoap-filled steel wool pad.
China, Crystal, Stoneware: Some
hand-painted piecesmay discolor, fade, or spot.
Hand-wash these pieces. Position fragile glass-
ware so that it will not topple over or
contact other piecesduring the wash cycle.
Glass: Milk glass may yellow.
Non-Stick Coatings: Apply alight coating of
vegetable oil to non-stick surfacesafter drying.
Plastics: Make sure the piece isdishwasher safe.
Stainless Steel, Sterling Silver, and Silver
Plate: Place these piecesso that they do not
contact dissimilar metals.
Not Recommended
Acrylic: Crazing (small cbasketsthroughout the
acrylic) may occur.
Adhesive-Joined Pieces: Adhesivesthat join
materialssuch as plastic, wood, bone, steel
copper, tin, etc. may loosen.
Bone-Handled Utensils: Handlesmay separate.
Iron: Iron will rust. Hand-wash and dry immedi-
ately.
Non-Dishware Items: Your dishwasher isin-
tended for use in cleaning ONLY standard house-
hold dishware and kitchenware.
Pewter, Brass, Bronze: Pewter will tarnish.
Hand-wash and dry immediately.
Tin: Tin will rust. Hand-wash and dry immediately.
Wood: Wooden bowls, wooden utensils, and
wood-handled utensilscan cbasket, warp, and
lose their finish.
NOTE: Before using your dishwasher for the first
time, check the information in thissection. Some
itemsare not dishwasher safe and should be
hand-washed; othersrequire special loading.
Contact the item’smanufacturer if youare unsure
about the item’sdishwasher suitability.
Dishware Materials Preparing and Loading
the Dishware
To avoid dishwasher damage, do not load
the dishwasher with objects such as paper
products, plastic bags, packing materials,
or anything other than normal dishware and
kitchenware. Do not load the dishwasher
with anything other than dishwasher-safe
dishware and kitchenware.

When the top basket isloaded, push it into the
dishwasher.
NOTE :When pushing the top basket into the
dishwasher, push it until it stopsagainst the back
of the tub so the top basket spray arm will connect
to the water supply.
Height Adjustable Top Basket
The top basket can be lowered to accommodate
large itemsin the top basket, and raised to make
room for large itemsin the lower basket.
To lower the top basket:
1. Pull the top
basket out of
the dishwasher
until it stops
rolling.
2. Press the

the dishwasher door will not shut and the top
basket spray arm will not connect to the
water circuit.

The Extra-long Knife Basket isan extrashelf

onto an edge of
the vario top basket.

Basket Attachment
The basket attachment has two additional cup
shelvesupon which to place cupsand large
kitchen utensils. The basket attachment is
assembled on the rear edge of the lower basket.
To assemble:
Slide the Basket Attachment in, Figure 10, keep-
ing the longest tineson the inside of the top
basket wire (a) and on the outside of the lower
basket wire (b), see Figure 9. The short tineswill
snap into place, see Figure 11.

Basket Attachment Use
To use the basket
attachment, fold down
the cup shelvesand

To remove the spray head and return the
dishwasher to its normal condition:
1. Turn the spray head counterclockwise and
remove it.
2. Retrieve the top basket.
3. Tilt the top basket upwardsand position the
top basket rollersonto the roller guides.
4. Continue pushing the top basket until the
rollersare on the guide.
5. Push the top basket into the dishwasher.
Place your extratall item(s) in the lower basket as
shown in Figure 13.

To avoid dishwasher damage, do not
reinstall the top basket without removing
the baking tray spray head. Do not reinstall
the top basket with the sprinkler installed.
Loading Extra Tall Items
If an item istoo tall to be placed into the lower
basket even with the top basket in the raised
position, remove the empty top basket by pulling it
out of the dishwasher until it stopsrolling.
Pull the front of the basket upward and outward
until the rollersare completely free of the roller
guides. Set the top basket aside.
Push the

The Duo Cutlery Basket
Thisbasket isdesigned for maximum versatility.
The basket splitsalong itslength, resulting in two
halvesthat may be placed in avariety of positions
in the lower basket, greatly increasing the lower
basket’sloading versatility.
To split the Duo Cutlery Basket:
1. Grasp the basket as shown in Figure 15A,
and slide the two halvesin opposite direc-
tions, as shown in Figure 15A.
2. Pull the two halvesapart, as shown in Figure
15B.

Some suggestionsfor placing the two halvesin
the lower basket are shown in Figure 16.
Keep children away from knivesand other sharp
utensils.
NOTE :The silverware basket topscan be folded
up to accommodate large or oddly-shaped items.
With the silverware basket topsdown, load the
silverware basket following the patterns
suggested in Figure 14. Place kniveswith their
handlesup, and forksand spoonswith their
handlesdown.
If large or oddly-shaped itemsare to be loaded
into the silverware basket with the topsup, load
the itemsso that they do not nest together. Load
knivesand sharp utensilswith their handlesup.

The sharp points and edges of knives and
other sharp utensils can cause serious
injuries. Load knives and other sharp
utensils with sharp points and edges
down. Do not allow children to handle or
play near knives and sharp utensils.
CAUTION

NOTE :If youdo not know the hardness of your
water supply, use 15ml of detergent. Increase the
amount of detergent, if necessary, to the least
amount required to get your dishware and
kitchenware clean.
Use the measuring linesin the detergent
dispenser cup as aguide to measure the amount
of detergent recommended in Table 1.
Adding Detergent and Rinse Agent
Rinse Agents
To achieve proper drying, alwaysuse aliquid
rinse agent, even if your detergent containsa
rinse agent or drying additive.
Filling the Detergent Dispenser
Fill the dispenser cup as recommend in Table 1.
Slide the detergent dispenser cover in the
direction shown in Figure 17A and press it down
firmly as shown in Figure 17B so that the cover
snapsshut.
Use only detergent specifically designed for
dishwashers. For best results, use fresh
powdered dishwashing detergent.
Thisdishwasher usesless water so youneed to
use less detergent. With soft water, 1 tablespoon
(15ml) of detergent will clean most loads. The
detergent dispenser cup has linesthat measure
detergent to 1 tablespoon (15ml) and 1.75
tablespoons(25ml). 3tablespoons(45ml) of
detergent will completely fill the detergent
dispenser cup.

cover, press the blue release in the direction

Return the rinse agent dispenser cover to itsshut
position and press it firmly so that the cover

Refill the rinse agent dispenser when the rinse
agent reservoir level indicator “ ” illuminates

NOTE :After filling the rinse agent dispenser, the
“ ” indicator will go out in afew minutesafter
the dishwasher door isshut.

To adjust the amount of rinse agent
dispensed:
1. Open the rinse agent dispenser cover.
2. If your glassesare streaked after washing,
turn the regulator to alower number.
3. If your glassesare spotted after washing,
turn the regulator to ahigher number.
Filling the Rinse Agent Dispenser
Open the rinse agent dispenser by pressing the
star on the cover with your index finger while
lifting the tab with your thumbas shown in Figure
19.

Add liquid rinse agent to the dispenser as shown
in Figure 20 until the rinse agent reservoir isfull.
Wipe up any excess rinse agent that puddles
when the dispenser reservoir isfull.

Rinse Agent Dispenser Regulator
The amount of rinse agent dispensed can be
regulated to control spotting and streaking. The
Rinse Agent Dispenser Regulator as shown in
Figure 21 leavesour factory set at 4.

Cancel Drain
Canceling or Changing a Cycle
To cancel or change acycle, open the
dishwasher door far enough to expose the control
buttonsthen press and hold for three secondsthe
two buttonslabeled “Cancel Drain” as shown in
Figure 22.
Wait approximately one minute, then press the
On/Off button
Youmay now begin anew cycle.
Wait at least ten secondsor until water noises
stop before opening the dishwasher door.
To resume the cycle, press the On/Off button and
shut the dishwasher door.
Selecting the Proper Wash Cycle
Alwaysmake sure your dishware isdishwasher
safe. Refer to the Dishware Materials section of
thismanual for guidance.
Pots and Pans
Cleansitemshaving baked-on or hard dried-on
food soils. These itemsmay require soaking or
hand scouring.
Normal
Thoroughly cleanslarge loadshaving loosely
attached normal soiling.
Operating the Dishwasher
Starting the Dishwasher
Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose
the control buttons.
Press the On/Off button.
Press the button for the desired wash cycle.
Shut the dishwasher door.
The dishwasher will start automatically and
continue operating until the end of the selected
cycle.
To avoid damage to delicate or heirloom
items do not wash them in your dishwasher.
Delicate/Economy
For delicate or heirloom dishware and silverware
or other special items. Alwaysmake sure that the
itemsare dishwasher safe. Refer to the
Materials section of thismanual for further
information. Hand washing may be the best
treatment of such items.
Quick Wash
For lightly soiled itemswith easy to remove food
soil.
More information on dishwasher cyclesislocated
in the Wash Cycle Information section of this
manual.
Selecting Wash Cycle Options
Power Boost
Reducesthe time to complete the wash cycle by
preheating.
Delay Start
Allowsyouto delay the start of the wash cycle for
up to 19 hours.
WARNING
You could be seriously scalded if you open
the dishwasher door quickly during a wash
or rinse cycle. Do not fully open the
dishwasher door for at least 10 seconds or
until water noises stop.
Once youstart the dishwasher, leave the
dishwasher door shut until it finishesthe cycle.
Interrupting a Cycle
NOTE :Should youneed to interrupt acycle (to
add or remove an item, to add detergent, etc.), it
isbest to do so within the first 30 minutesof the
cycle.
Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose
the control buttons.
Press the On/Off button.

Dishware Drying
At the end of the cycle the dishwasher will stop
and aperiod of condensation drying will follow.
After 12 - 15 minutesof drying:
• the cycle countdown display will read “0”.
• the “Sanitized” light may appear. See section
on Sanitization for more information.
NOTE :If your household water supply istoo hot,
your dishwasher’sheating time may be reduced
and the “Sanitized” light may not illuminate. Your
Dishwasher Installation Manual has information
on the recommended temperature for your
household hot water supply.
NOTE :To accelerate and enhance drying, open
the dishwasher door, pull the top basket afew
inchesout of the dishwasher, and prop the
dishwasher door against the top basket.
Advance Dry
Thisfeature senseswhen the unit islow on rinse
agent and automatically increasesthe drying
time.
Additional Drying Heat
With thisoption youcan raise the temperature of
the rinse water and increase the drying time,
which will result in improved drying.
Press and hold the left “Cancel Drain” button,
then press and hold the On/Off button.
When the LED display showsa“0” or a“1”,
release both buttons.
To enable the Additional Drying Heat, press the
left “Cancel Drain” button until the LED display
showsa“1”.
To disable the Additional Drying Heat, press the
left “Cancel Drain” button until the LED display
showsa“0”.
Press the On/Off button to save the setting.
Unloading the Dishwasher
Unload the lower basket first.
Unload the duo-cutlery basket(s). They are easily
removed for unloading.
Unload the top basket.
If the Baking Tray Spray Head was installed,
return the dishwasher to itsnormal condition (see
the Loading ExtraTall Itemsinstructionsin the
“Loading the Dishwasher” section of thismanual).
“Sanitized” Light
When the “Sanitized” light appears
on the countdown display (see
Figure 23), it meansthat the
dishware and kitchenware that
were just washed have been
sanitized.
The Cycle Completion Signal
ThisCycle Completion Signal isatone that
soundswhen your dishwasher finishes
washing and drying your dishes. Youcan either
disable the tone or set the volume.
To change the Cycle Completion Signal Volume:
1. Open the dishwasher door far enough to
expose the control buttons.
2. Press and hold the right “Cancel Drain” button
then press and hold the On/Off button.
3. When the light on the “Cancel Drain” button
youare pressing illuminatesand the tone
beginsto sound, release both buttons.
4. Press the right-most “Cancel Drain” button
until the tone iseither at the desired volume or
issilent.
5. Press the On/Off Button.
6. Shut the dishwasher door. The Cycle
Completion Signal isnow set, and youmay
wash your dishesas usual.

Maintenance Tasks
Certain areas of your dishwasher require
occasional maintenance. The maintenance tasks
are easy to do and will ensure continued superior
performance from your dishwasher. These tasks
are:
• Winterizing Your Dishwasher
• Wiping up Spillsand Splash-out

Winterize Your Dishwasher
If your dishwasher will be unused for an extended
period of time in alocation that experiences
freezing temperatures(e.g., in aholiday home or
through avacation period), have your dishwasher
winterized by an authorized service center.
Care and Maintenance
To avoid dishwasher damage, do not allow
water to remain in your dishwasher
systems through extended periods of
freezing temperatures. Freezing
temperatures can damage your
dishwasher.
Wipe Up Spills and Splash-out
Water may occasionally splash out of your
dishwasher, especially if youinterrupt acycle or
open the dishwasher door during acycle. To
avoid floor damage and possible mold growth, do
not allow wet areas to remain around or under the
dishwasher.
Check/Clean the Stainless Steel
Inner Door and Tub
Clean the outer edgesof the inside door panel
regularly to remove debristhat might collect there
from normal loading.
If spotsbegin to appear on the stainless steel tub
or inner door, make sure the rinse agent reservoir
isfull.
Check/Clean the Spray Arm
Nozzles
Occasionally check the spray armsto ensure that
the spray arm nozzles(holes) are unobstructed.
Youmust remove the spray armsto check them
for obstruction.
To remove the top spray arm:
1. Remove the
empty top
basket from
the
dishwasher.
2. Turn the
basket
upside-
down. The
top spray
arm isheld
in position
by alocking
nut as
shown in
Figure 24A.
Turn the
locking nut counter-clockwise
1/8turn and remove it, as shown in Figure
24B to release the spray arm.
3. Remove
the spray
arm as
shown in
Figure 25.
4. Look for
obstruction
in the
spray
nozzles.
5. If the spray nozzlesneed cleaning, flush
them under running water.

To reinstall the top spray arm:
1. Return the top spray arm to itsinstalled
position.
2. Return the locking nut to itsinstalled
position and turn it 1/8turn clockwise.
3. Return the top basket to the top basket roller
guides.
To remove the bottom spray arm:
1. Remove the empty lower basket from the
dishwasher tub.
2. Grasp and lift the bottom spray arm as
shown in Figure 26.
To reinstall the bottom spray arm:
1. Return the bottom spray arm to itsinstalled
position and press it so that it snapsinto
place.
2. Return the lower basket to itsinstalled
position.
3. Look for obstruction in the spray nozzles.
4. If the spray nozzlesneed cleaning, flush
them under running water.

Check/Clean the Filter System
Thisdishwasher has afilter system that consists
of aLarge Object Trap/Cylinder Filter assembly,
aFine Filter, and an additional Micro Filter. The
filter system islocated on the inside of your
dishwasher under the lower basket and iseasily
accessible.
During normal use, the filter system is
self-cleaning. Youshould occasionally inspect it
for foreign objectsand clean it when necessary.
To Remove the Large Object Trap/Cylinder
Filter Assembly:
1. Remove the lower basket.
2. Grasp the assembly as shown in Figure 27
and turn it counterclockwise 1/4 turn.

4. Carefully examine the assembly. If youfind
debrisin the Large Object Trap, turn it
upside-down and gently tap it on asurface
such as acountertop to dislodge and remove
the debris. Flush the Cylinder Filter clean by
holding it under running water.
3. Lift out the assembly as shown in Figure 28.

To avoid injury, do not reach into the large
object trap with your fingers. The large
object trap could contain sharp objects.

Clean the Exterior Door Panel
To avoid possible diswasher damage, do
not use harsh chemicals, abrasive
cleaners, scouring pads (metal or plastic),
or abrasive cloths/paper towels to clean
your dishwasher’s exterior door panel.
Your dishwasher’s exterior door panel can
be damaged by doing so.
Colored Doors
Use only asoft cloth that islightly dampened with
soapy water.
Stainless Steel Doors
Use asoft cloth with anon-abrasive cleaner
(preferably aliquid spray) made for cleaning
stainless steel. For the best results, apply the
stainless steel cleaner to the cloth, then wipe the
surface.
Clean the Door Gasket
Regularly clean the door gasket with adamp
cloth to remove food particlesand other debris.
To reinstall the filter system:
1. Return the Micro Filter (select models) to its
installed position.
2. Return the Fine Filter to itsinstalled position.
3. Place the Large Object Trap/Cylinder Filter
Assembly into itsinstalled position in the
dishwasher floor.
4. Turn the ring handle clockwise 1/4 turn until it
islocked.

5. Gently pull the ring handle to ensure that the
assembly islocked into place.

Water not pumped from dishwasher
Make certain the drain hose isn’t kinked, clogged,
or improperly installed. Make certain aportion of
the drain hose isat least 20 inchesabove the
dishwasher’senclosure floor (see the Installation
Manual). Filtersmay be clogged. Make certain the
filter system isn’t clogged (see the Care and
Maintenance section of thismanual). The kitchen
sink drain may be clogged; youmay need a
plumber rather than aserviceman for the
dishwasher. If an air gap isinstalled at sink, it
may be clogged.
Detergent dispenser cover will not shut
Youmay not be correctly shutting the detergent
dispenser cover, or acycle was not finished and
should be cancelled. Go to the Adding Detergent
and Rinse Agent section of thismanual for
instructionson shutting the detergent dispenser
cover. Go to the Operating the Dishwasher
section of thismanual for instructionson
canceling acycle.
Streaks on glassware
Too much rinse agent isbeing dispensed. Go to
the Adding Detergent and Rinse Agent section of
thismanual for instructionson decreasing the
amount of rinse agent dispensed.
Rattling noises
Utensilsmay not be properly arranged.
Suds in dishwasher
Youmay have used the wrong type of
dishwashing detergent. Use only automatic
dishwasher detergents.
Unsatisfactory washing results
• Incorrect amount of detergent.
• Utensilsincorrectly arranged or basket
overloaded.
•Spray arm rotation blocked by utensils.
•Spray arm nozzlesneed cleaning.
• Filtersnot properly fitted into position.
• Unsuitable cycle selected.
Dishwashersmay occasionally exhibit problems
that are unrelated to amalfunction of the
dishwasher itself. The following information may
help youwith adishwasher problem without you
having to call arepair person.
Dishes do not dry
The rinse agent dispenser may be empty. Check
the rinse-aid dispenser and refill it if necessary.
Dishware drying can be accelerated and
enhanced by opening the dishwasher door slightly
and propping it open with the top basket.
Indicator light(s) do not come on
A fuse may have blown or acircuit breaker
tripped. Check the fuse or circuit breaker at your
fuse box/breaker box and replace the fuse or
reset the breaker if necessary.
Dishwasher does not start
The dishwasher door may not be properly shut.
Make certain the dishwasher door isshut and
latched.
Dishwasher runs a long time
If the dishwasher completesthe cycle, but the run
time seemsexceptionally long, it may be due to
cold incoming water. Before starting the
dishwasher, open the hot water faucet at the sink
nearest the dishwasher. Run the water until it
runshot, then turn off the water and start the
dishwasher.
Machine cycle does not advance to rinse
NOTE :The Installation Manual that came with
your dishwasher will help youwith the following
instructions. The water supply line may be shut
off. Check the water supply valve and open it if it’s
shut.
White spots left on dishes
More rinse agent isneeded. Go to the Adding
Detergent and Rinse Agent section of thismanual
for instructionson increasing the amount of rinse
agent dispensed.

Wash Cycle Information
Note: If the unit is out of rinse agent the Advance Dry feature will automatically extend the cycle time by
approximately 10 minutes.
Note: If Additional Drying Heat is selected the cycle will be extended by approximately 20 minutes.
NOTE
:To save energy, this dishwasher has a "Smart Control" that automatically adjust the cycle based on
soil loads and incoming water temperature. The "Smart Control" makes decisions that can cause the cycle
time and water usage to adjust at discrete times, and suddenly change in midcycle. The cycle times listed
in the Use and Care manual are based on normal soil loads and 120°F incoming water and will vary based
on your actual conditions.
SANITIZED
A dishwasher cycle that has the Sanitized symbol has been tested to meet very strict requirements of
wash time and water temperature to ensure dishware and kitchenware sanitization. All cycles that meet the
Sanitized requirements heat the water to a minimum of 156°F.
The dishwasher cycles that meet the requirements are labeled “Sanitized”in the chart above. When these
cycles are complete the “Sanitized”indicator on your control panel will illuminate if all the requirements are
met.
NOTE
:If your household water supply is too hot, your dishwasher’s heating time may be reduced and the
“Sanitized”light or symbol may not illuminate. Your Dishwasher Installation Manual has information on the
recommended temperature for your household hot water supply.
