Garmin inReach Mini
Paring mobile device to Garmin:
From app store on your mobile device,
install and open Earthmate app.
Turn on Garmin with power button on top
of device (hold power button down to
power on/off)
Make sure mobile device and Garmin are
within 10 feet of each other when pairing
On the Earthmate app click connect from
the bottom screen
Once searching for device appears on
phone move on to next step to continue
pairing
From the main menu on the Garmin arrow
down until you reach the Bluetooth screen
Use the arrows to scroll to Pair device
Select pair device using the OK button on
the top right-hand side of Garmin

When a white screen pops up on your
mobile device leave it open until the
Garmin device appears in the list
When the Garmin device appears in the list
click on that device to connect
The Garmin and mobile device should
connect (see troubleshooting if the device
doesn’t connect)
When the mobile device asks about
sharing/using location on the app, click
“Only While Using App”
A download map screen will come up on
the mobile device. Click not now.
From the bottom of the screen on your
mobile device hit messages

In the upper right-hand corner, click new
message icon.
When you get to the messages screen use
the Garmin Quick connect document to add
all managers numbers to your message.
(Note: some phones require that you put the
contacts in your phone contacts prior to
sending a message through the Earthmate
app)
After adding all MOD numbers enter a test
message (see Garmin Quick connect
docume nt for required conte nt of test
me s sage)
*You are limited to 250 characters per
message
Hit send on your Earthmate app

On the Garmin a small arrow will pop up in
the top of the main screen, once the
message has gone through you will see the
arrow disappear and the Garmin will make
a chiming sound.
Garmin Troubleshooting:
If the Garmin will not pair to mobile device:
Make sure it is disconnected from the previous
trips’ phone and try again.
If still can’t pair go to Bluetooth settings and
click on the Garmin from that screen. Then go
back to the Earthmate app and message as
described.
When the test text message is sent you may
have to walk outside with the Garmin (if testing
from AzRA) to get the text to go through, the
Garmin will make a noise when the message is
successfully sent.
FYI- sometimes the messages sent can be
delayed due to satellite issues that are out of our
control. Move along with rig if testing and try
again either before leaving AzRA or at the
ferry.

Paring from mobile device (using Bluetooth)
1. From the app store on your mobile device,
install and open Earthmate app.
2. Place the inReach device and your mobile
device within 10 feet of each other.
3. Select connect on mobile device
4. From the main menu on the Garmin scroll
down until you see Bluetooth and hit ok, then
pair device.
5. Follow the instructions on the Earthmate app
to complete pairing and setup process.
6. Using your mobile device select messages
from the main menu.
7. Follow directions be l ow to tes t Garmin us ing your
mobile device.
Sending a test message from the Garmin inReach Mini (ideally this will
be doneat AzRA during load out)
1. Give location
2. Identify yourself and trip
3. Time you are sending message
4. Message information with as much detail as
possible
5. Include all MODs

Helpful hints:
Sending a Preset text message
From the main menu, select SEND PRESET
Choose a preset message and select SEND
Messages page select OK
Select New Message > Select Contacts .
Choose recipients from your contacts list and
select Done.
Select an option:
To start with a pre-written message, select Pick
Quick Text.
To write a custom message, select Write
Message.
Replying to a Mes s age
From the Messages page, select OK.
Select a conversation, and select Re pl y
Select an option:
To start with a pre-written message, select Pick
Quick Text.
To write a custom message, select Write
Message.Then SEND.
SOS Rescue
1. Lift protective cap from SOS button
2. Hold SOS button and wait for the SOS
countdown.
3. Reply to the confirmation message from the
emergency response
service
Cancelling and SOS Rescue
1. Lift the protective cap, and hold SOS Button
2. Select YES
