The RGT-03 is an automatic SMS programmable
control device made for the temperature control of
apartments, weekend houses or even whole
buildings. The selectable pre-programmed
algorithms make it ideal for the operation of gas,
oil, electric heating systems (including pumps) and
air-conditioners. The built in GSM unit provides the
remote access and guarantees the exact timing.
istant programming and the inquiry of data is
easily done by simple SMS messages, while the
controller also can be set on the spot with three
buttons and an LC display.

Installation
Location of mounting
Since the RGT-03 is the control unit of the heating/cooling system, it is very important to find the
proper place for it. The heat sensor (thermistor) is inside the control unit by default, but optionally
an external sensor can be mounted at a maximum distance of 30m. In that case, the connection is
maintained by a 2-conductor electrical wire. Mount the heat sensor (or the control unit if the
internal sensor is used) on that wall, which has the most intense air circulation in its proximity and
the nearby temperature is closest to the average temperature. Mount the heat sensor (or the complete
unit) horizontally at a distance of 1,5m to the ground. Never mount the heat sensor (or the complete
unit) close to any source of heat (eg.: heater), in blowy areas or places where it can be exposed to
direct sunlight.
Mounting
The opening for the cables and the mounting holes are located on the
bottom of RGT-03. It is advisable to mount the unit above a wall-
mount box by two screws. To do so, first the cover must be removed
by gently unlocking the two small white tabs on the bottom edge of
the cover – as shown in the picture. A small screwdriver will come
handy. Once the unit is open, mark the location of the mounting
holes on the wall, drill the wall, fix the unit by two screws.
The next step is the connection of wires to the proper
terminal blocks according to the plan. Connect the
leads of the included 12V power supply to terminal
P1. WARNING: MIND PO ARITY! Terminal P3
is for the optional external heat sensor (RGT-ET)
that can improve the detection of heat. The
maximum distance between the sensor and the
control unit is 30m. In case an external heat sensor is
used, the jumper JP1 (located next to the display)
must be in position 3 (towards the display). The
heating/cooling system connects to terminal P2 as
shown on the plan.

The wiring should be done in accordance with local regulations. The use of a maximum 10A fuse is
highly recommended.
Please note:
The person who carries out the installation must have basic knowledge on electricity.
Make sure the power is cut off before any operation!
Initial setup
First, prepare the SIM card by a GSM phone and insert into the SIM holder. (See previous picture!)
SIM preparation: Insert the SIM card into a common GSM phone. In the menu find and disable the
security function that makes the phone asking for PIN number on star up. Next type the phone
number that belongs to the SIM card in the ’Own Number’ menu – or similar. (That is only to allow
the control unit to acquire the time from the GSM network during turning on. However it is not
essential to do since it can be doing with SMS command later when the control unit is turned on.)
Now the card is ready to be inserted into the control unit.
Before reinserting the cover, the initial setup is to be done to adapt the RGT-03 to the actual
application.
Jumper JP3 and button S1, S2 and S3 will be used.
1. Turn power on and wait for displaying the
time/date.
2. Make JP3 shorted by the supplied
connector.
3. Scroll the menu up or down with button S1
and S2 to check each parameter. Select the
one you need to change by pressing button
S3. A flashing value will then indicate that
the value is ready to be changed. Now use
button S1 and S2 to alter the value. Press
S3 repeatedly to save the value and return
to the menu. The chart below shows the
menu points, the default values, and the
range of possible adjustment.

It can be set the AUTO mode Time and Ref values shortly. If breaking of JP3 happenes at
displaying P21 Time, the values of Sunday is written to Saturday and values of Monday is written
to remain weekday.

4. Break circuit with jumper JP3. That makes the set parameters stored in the permanent memory
and returns the controller to normal operation mode. This setup procedure can be repeated, and
the set values can be changed at any time.
5. Snap the cover back on to its place. The controller is ready for operation.
Detailed explanation of some expressions of the table
• Temperature shift: If the control unit is installed in a too cold or warm place, the measured
and displayed temperature value can be corrected by a few degrees.
• ower temperature limit: Protects against unauthorised adjustments. The temperature can't
be set to a lower value than the limit.
• Upper temperature limit: Protects against unauthorised adjustments. The temperature can't
be set to a higher value than the limit.
• Pump protection: When the function is enabled, the pump will run for one minute at 2 PM
if it has not been turned on for 24 hours.
Maintenance
uring operation, the display takes turns at showing the time-date and the current-set temperature
value in 10 second intervals, as it can be seen on the pictures below. If there is no sufficient light to
read the display the illumination can be turned on/off by pressing the OK button.
Please note:
Do not leave the illumination turned on permanently because the produced heat can lead to
false temperature measurement.
In operation, two parameters can be altered on the spot: the target (desired) temperature and the
operating mode. The programming method is similar to the one described under Initial setup step 3.
Use arrows to change between the target temperature (displayed as: mTref or TRef) and the
operating mode (displayed as: Mode). To alter a parameter, press OK then use the arrows to change
value. When ready, press OK to store the new value. If no button is pressed for 4 seconds, the unit
stores the set value automatically and returns to normal operation.
Operating modes:
1. MAN (manual mode): The control unit will continue to maintain the temperature set as TRef
(or mTref) until an other temperature or mode is selected. (displayed as: MTR: xx°C).
2. AUTO (automatic mode): Automatic mode sets the thermostat to follow the temperature
program from parameter P01 to P64 (displayed as: ATR: xx°C). If you change the mTref
value with the buttons of the control unit while in auto mode, then the mTref temperature
will be maintained until the next switching time is reached. In that case mTR: xx°C will be
displayed.
. HOLI AY: The control unit will apply the Sunday program for the current day and the day
after (displayed as: HRT: xx°C). Like in AUTO mode, the mTRef value can be changed
here also.

Target temperature setting:
1. mTRef: In AUTO and HOLI AY modes the temperature value can be set between the
lower and upper temperature limits. Valid until the next switching time.
2. TRef: In MAN mode, the temperature value can be set between the lower and upper
temperature limits. (The GSM remote control affects this parameter too.)
GSM remote control
The control unit has a built in GSM module that makes remote programming possible. Via an SMS
you can change the target temperature or you can inquire the measured temperature, the target
temperature, the operating mode and the state of the relay. The inquiry also can be done by making
a phone call and terminating it after two ring tones. The number of the phone must be stored in the
RGT-03. The clock of the control unit is reset each time at power back up. If it is necessary, an
SMS command can synchronize the clock, so no needs manual adjustments. An ALARM phone
number can be set. The control unit will send a warning message to this number if the measured
temperature is under the lower or above the upper temperature limit by 2°C.
In case a prepaid SIM card is used with the control unit, you can check the balance and the time of
expire – if any. Always check carefully the terms of use of your SIM card at your mobile
supplier to ensure continuous connection!
SMS commands (non case-sensitive)
There is a PIN number protection against unauthorised access. The PIN number can be
changed at any time. The factory set value is: 1234

Please note:
Any different irregular SMS will be automatically forwarded to the ALARM phone number.
Troubleshooting
In case, the display shows an unusual message, first press any of the up or down arrows. If that does
not help, cut the power supply for a few seconds (restart).
In case, the GSM remote control function does not work cut the power supply for a few seconds. If
that does not help, check your SIM balance and time of expire.
The device can be restarted by phone in the following way, if the telephone connection is working:
ial any of the numbers (inquiry or alarm) that has been previously stored in the RGT-03, wait for
at least five ring tones, and then break the line. Optionally, the unit can be restarted by SMS: Send a
message with the content [PIN]RR to the unit. If you want the unit to use the factory (default)
settings after restart, the content of the SMS should be [PIN]RF. There will be no reply to these
messages. The proper operation can be verified by an SMS inquiry. (Leave at least one minute for
the unit to restart before check.)
The RGT-03 is able to function as a simple thermostat even with no SIM card installed. If so, the
’SIM ERROR!’ message will be displayed for 10 seconds after the unit is turned on. Whilst the
clock cannot be set without a SIM card, only MAN (manual) operating mode will be available.
uring operation the ’SIM!!! MO E MAN’ message will be displayed instead of the time and
MAN mode will be set automatically.
In case, a SIM card is inserted without having the security function – that makes the phone asking
for PIN number on star up – turned off, the ’PIN ERROR!’ message will be displayed and the
control unit will operate as without a SIM card.
In case, the own phone number that comes with the SIM card is not written on the card (as
described under Initial setup) the RGT-03 will not be able to get the time data from the GSM
network. False or no time at all will be shown on the display. Use [PIN]S[phone Nr] and [PIN]C
SMS commands to write own number to the SIM, and set the clock.
External heat sensor option
In the case of finding it more convenient to mount the RGT-03 to a place that
is fare from the optimal location for temperature measurement, it is possible to
use an external heat sensor (RGT-ET). The maximum permissible distance
between the control unit and the external heat sensor is 30m. Connect the two
units by any kind of 2-conductor electrical wire as detailed on page number 2.

Measurement error due to the resistance of the connecting cable needs to be compensated in the
following way:
Move the jumper on the circuit board of the heat sensor
(RGT-ET) to the position shown in the picture. By doing
that, you replace the heat sensor with a 10Kohm reference
resistor. Now 25°C is supposed to be displayed by the
control unit. If you read any other value, then set the
difference as a P1 Tcorr value with opposite sign. (The
procedure is detailed under Initial setup.) Return the
control unit to normal operation, 25°C should be
displayed. If correct, place the jumper of the heat sensor
unit back to its original position to activate the real sensor
instead of the reference resistor.
Important:
If an external heat sensor is connected the jumper JP1 (next to the display) of the control
unit must be placed in position 3 (closer to the display)!
