GN-B46BRouterisafull functionbroadband router.Thisrouterequipwithpowerfulfirewall
andDoSprotection,whichcangivethe usermaximumprotectiontopreventfromdamage
bymaliciousinternetuser.The UPnPand MSNmessengersupportcanprovide the envi-
ronmentforusertosurfing internetwithoutanytrouble.The GN-B46Bwireless routeris
composed ofthe RealtekCCU,802.11b wireless,Switchand 10/100 Ethernet. Thisprod-
uctadoptsthe directsequencespread spectrum(DSSS)technologyand the DBPSK,
DQPSK,and CCKmodulation mode toprovide averystablewireless communication
qualityand an excellentsignalreceiving capability.Thisproductfeaturesthe compact
size,lowpowerconsumption,and powermanagementfunctions,and providesahigh-

Chapter2ConnecttotheRouter
It needs to prepare these three things before you begin:
1. An active Internet service such as that provided by an cable or ADSL broadband
account.
2. Make sure the Internet Service Provider (ISP) configuration information for your ADSL
account.
SystemRequirements
To use the Wireless Broadband Router on your network, each computer needs an
installed Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) and an Ethernet cable (RJ-45) or a
PCMCIA wireless adapter for laptop computer.

nAJavascript-enabled web browserprogramwhichsupportsHTTPupIoadssuchas
Microsoft InternetExplorerorNetscape Navigatorversion 4.0orabove.
InternetConfiguration Requirements
In order to connect your router to Internet, you will need one or more of these
configuration parameters provided by your ISP:
vHost and Domain Names
vISP Login Name and Password
vISP Domain Name Server (DNS) Address
vFixed IP Address which is also known as Static IP Address
vSubnet mask
vDefault Gateway

Wireless ConnecttoaPC
Step1.Turnoff yournetwork’s hardware,including the Router,PCsand cableorADSL
modem.
Step2.ConnectanEthernetcableform yourcableorADSLmodemtothe WANportof
theGN-B46B.
Step3.Connectthe poweradaptertothe powerconnection slotofthe GN-B46B,and
thenplug the poweradapterintoapoweroutlet.
Step4.Poweron the cableorADSLmodem,PCs.The connection procedureis
completed then go tothe “Chapter3Configurationofthe PCs”.
Note:If you usewireless connection,pleaserefertothe wireless LANcardmanual
whichprovided byyourwireless cardmanufacture.The SSIDofthe Wireless LAN
cardshouldbe the sameasthe SSIDofthe GN-B46B.The defaultvalue is
“GIGABYTE”(or“any”,ifyourwireless LANcardcan support.),pleasedo notice
the form ofthe SSIDvalue whetheriscaptialornot.
Step1.Turnoff yournetwork’s hardware,including the Router,PCsand cableorADSL
modem.
Step2.ConnectanEthernetcableform yourcableorADSLmodemtothe WANportof
theGN-B46B.
Step3.Connectone end ofanEthernetcabletoone ofthe LANports(LAN1-4)onthe
router,and the otherend toanEthernetporton aPC.
WiredConnecttoaPC
Step4.Connectthe poweradaptertothe powerconnection slotofthe GN-B46B,and
thenplug the poweradapterintoapoweroutlet.
Step5.Poweron the cableorADSLmodem,PCs.The connection procedureis
completed then go tothe “Chapter3Configurationofthe PCs”.

Chapter3Configuration ofthePCs
Overview
Toconnecttothe router,yourcomputerneedstobe configured toobtainanIPaddress
automaticallyviaDHCPserver.Pleasefollowthe instructuretoperform the setup under
the TCP/IPnetworkenvironment. BydefaultWindows98,Me,2000 and XP hasTCP/IP
installed.If you havenotinstalled the TCP/IPcommunication Protocol,pleaseinstall it
now,and then selectyouroperating systemforthe setup.
TheSettingsunderWindows2000
Step1.Click “Start”inthe desktop ofthe Windowstoselect“Settings”,and then
select“ControlPanel”.

Step3.Double-click the “LAN CONNECTION”and click the “Properties”button.
Step2.Double-click the “NetworkandDial-up Connections”icon.

Step4.The “LocalArea Connection Properties”dialog boxwillappear.Verfiythat
the InternetProtocol(TCP/IP)itemischecked.And then double-click the
“InternetProtocol(TCP/IP)”item.
Step5.Select“ObtainanIPaddress automatically”and “ObtainDNSserver
address automatically”,click the “OK”button toreturntoLocalArea
Connection Properties.Click the “OK”button againtocompletethe PC
configuration.
Now,the computerwillobtainanIPaddress automaticallyfromGN-B46Bthen youcango
tothe Step10 directly.If you wouldliketoobtainan IPaddress manually,pleasereferto
Step6~Step9.

Step6.Click “Start”atthe desktop ofthe Windows,and then “Programs”,
“Accessories”and “Command Prompt”insequence.
Step7.Keyinthe command “ipconfig/release”inDOSmode and then enter.
Step8.Keyinthe command “ipconfig/renew”and then enter.

Step10. Inyour“IEBrowser”select“InternetOptions”under“Tools”.
Step9.Keyin“exit”and then enter.
Note:If the IPaddress oftheGN-B46Bis192.168.1.254,the IPaddress ofyour
computermustbe 192.168.1.X(where“X”isanumberbetween 1and 253.Each
computeron yournetworkmusthaveadifferentIPaddress withinthatrange where
“X”representsanumberbetween 1and 253.)The defaultgatewaymustbe 192.

Step7.Click the “OK”button again.Windowswill ask you torestartyourPC.Please
click the “Yes”button.If Windowsdoesnotask youtorestart,pleaserestart
yourcomputeranyway.
Afterbooting the computer,the computerwill obtainan IPaddress automaticallyfromthe
GN-B46Bthen you cango tothe Step11 directly.If you wouldliketoobtainan IPaddress
manually,pleaserefertoStep8~Step10.
Note:The Windowsmayask you forthe originalWindowsinstallation disk oradditional
files.PleaseinsertyourWindowsCD-ROMintoyourCD-ROMdriveand check
the correctlocation,e.g.,D:\win98,D:\win9x,etc.(If “D”isyourCD-ROMdrive).
Step8.Click “Start”atthe desktop ofthe Windowsand select“Run..”.
Step9.Keyin“winipcfg”and click the “OK”button.
