ASSEMBLING AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

.GASOLINE ROTARY LAWN MOWER
8efore a~temptin g to operate this mower, read these instructions carefully.
A. HOW TO ASSEMBLE
The numbered references are found in the illustration.
1. Remove the mower, the upper handle 0), and the lower handle (lO) from the
"
carton .
2.
Assemble the upper hMdle to the lowec han dle by us ing t hree handle bo lts
(7), three locltwashers (8), and three nuts ( 9), thes e fasteners are found in
the
parts bag.
3. Snap the lower handle (10) over the two studs (17) provided on the inside of
the rear wheel brackets.
4. Adjust the handle to the desired height by inserting two screws (I2) and two
,locltw
as hers (13) in one of the three adjustmen t holes of both lower handle
'a dju st ment brackets.
5. Uncoil the small ig nition wire (11) and run it alon g the lo wer side of the up-
per and lower handle assembly ; connect the tip to the ignit ion swi tch (4)
terminal.

without first placing the ignition switch (4) in the "off" position
and waiting until the engine has come to B COMPLETE STOP. Do not
attempt to turn the blade by hand before you are absolutely sure that the
ignition switch (4) is in the "off" position. This shorts the magneto and
prevents the engine from starting. As an extra safety precaution - pull the
spark plug ignition wire (37) from the spark plug terminal.
b. The mower manufacturer has taken extreme care in equipping the mower
with
safety guards. It is advised that the mower be operated with extreme
caution where children are playing.
2. a. Read the engine instruction book and follow the starting procedure sug-
gested, making sure that the ignition switch (4) is in the "on" position
when starting the engine. To ease the starting of the mower, it is advis-
able to start the mower ?n a sidewalk or some area not on the grass. To
stop the engine move the switch to the "off" position.
b. We suggest that tbe operator obtain a clean one or two gallon gasoline can
(as used with outboard motors) and that a mixture of gasoline and oil be
made in this can according to the engine instructioD book. AI ways shake
this mixture before pouring into the engine gas tank, thus allowing the gas
and oil to mix properly. If you will follow the above procedure religiously,
and mix the gas and oil in the correct proportions, you will eliminate the
chances of dirt and other foreign matter clogging the carburetor.
c. It is also suggested that the operator obtain an extra spark plug similar to
the one furnished with the engine. IE the engine does not start after the
third pull, insert the new dry spark plug.
3. The mower is operated with little effort by pushing it over the lawn. With the
average walking speed it will do an excellent job on the average grass height.
If the grass is above normal height, it may be necessary to use a slower walk-
ing speed. This mower will cut both in a forward and in a backward direction.

4. This mower should .be turned around by raising the front wheels off the
ground. and
pivoting around on the remaining two rear wheels.
5. When the blade (32) strikes a solid object, a shear pin, located thru the
blade (32) and the drive washer (33), will shear under the impact to avoid
damaging the engine ... The mower will not cut until you replace the sheared
pin, as follows:
a.
Follow the safety precautions found under paragraph B 1.
b. Align the drive washer (33) hole and the blade (32) and insert a nail or
some similar size wire. (additional shear pins found in the parts bag).
c. Bend the nail or wire so that it does not drop out. The mower is now ready
to cut.
C. HOW TO ADJusr THE CUT11NG HEIGHT
1. Place the mower on a sidewalk or a flat surface.
2. The height of the cut is adjusted by removing the wheel axle fasteners (19,20)
and inserting the wheel axle (18) with the wheels (14) in the adjusting holes
(36) provided.
3. Be sure that all four axles (18) are inserted in the same adjusting hole (36) in
each of the four
brackets.

Th e mower w ill do an excellent job of mulching dry leaves (providing additional
food for your lawn) by adjusting your mower as follows:
1. Adjust the two rear wheels (14) in the 'top hole of the rear wheel bracket.
2. Adjust the two front wheels in the bottom hole of the front wheel brackets .
The mower then sets low in the rear and high in the fr ont . Th is mower posit ion
will aid in trapping and mulching dry leaves.
E. HOW TO SHARPEN mE BLADE
1. When onl y one set of cutting edges becomes nicked or dull you can reverse
the
blade as follows:
a. Follow the safe ty pre caut ions found under paragraph B 1.
b. Remove the lock nut (29) and bend the shear pin or nail straight and re-
move
the blad e.
c.
Turn the blade over and reassemble.
2. When both sets of cutting edges become nicked or dull you can sharpen the
blade as follows:
a.
Follow the safety p recautions found under paragraph B 1.
b. Remove the lock nut (29) and bend the shear pin or nail straight and re-
move
the blade.
c. Resharpen all four cutting edges with a file or a grinding wheel,

F. HOW TO LUBRICATE
1. For engine lubrication, follow instructions in the engine instruction book.
2.
The mower proper needs no lubrication. The wheel bearings are made of
material which is self-lubricating and do not require additional lubrication.
G. HOW TO ORDER PARTS
