The outlet from the himney should be above the roof of the building in a ordan e with the provisions of
Building Regulations Approved Do ument J.
If installation is into an existing himney then it must be sound and have no ra ks or other faults whi h might
allow fumes into the house. Older properties, espe ially, may have himney faults or the ross se tion may be
too large i.e. more than 230 mm x 230 mm. Remedial a tion should be taken, if required, seeking expert advi e,
if ne essary. If it is found ne essary to line the himney then a flue liner suitable for solid fuel must be used in
a ordan e with Building Regulations Approved Do ument J.
Any existing himney must be lear of obstru tion and have been swept lean immediately before installation of
the stove. If the stove is fitted in pla e of an open fire then the himney should be swept one month after
installation to lear any soot falls whi h may have o urred due to the differen e in ombustion between the
stove and the open fire.
If there is no existing himney then any new system must be to the designation des ribed above and in
a ordan e with Building Regulations Approved Do ument J.
A single wall metal fluepipe is suitable for onne ting the stove to the himney but is not suitable for use as the
omplete himney. The himney and onne ting fluepipe must have a minimum diameter of 150 mm and its
dimension should at no point be less than the size of the outlet so ket of the stove.
Any bend in the himney or onne ting fluepipe should not ex eed 45°. 90° bends should not be used.
Combustible material should not be lo ated where the heat dissipating through the walls of firepla es or flues
ould ignite it. Therefore when installing the stove in the presen e of ombustible materials due a ount must
be taken of the guidan e on the separation of ombustible material given in Building Regulations Approved
Do ument J and also in these stove instru tions.
If it is found that there is ex essive draught in the himney then a draught stabiliser should be fitted.
Adequate provision e.g. easily a essible soot door or doors must be provided for sweeping the himney and
onne ting fluepipe.
Hearth
The hearth should be able to a ommodate the weight of the stove and its himney if the himney is not
independently supported. The weight of the stove is indi ated in the bro hure.
The stove should preferably be installed on a non- ombustible hearth of a size and onstru tion that is in
a ordan e with the provisions of the urrent Building Regulations Approved Do ument J.
The learan e distan es to ombustible material beneath, surrounding or upon the hearth and walls adja ent to
the hearth should omply with the guidan e on the separation of ombustible material given in Building
Regulations Approved Do ument J and also in these stove instru tions.
If the stove is to be installed on a ombustible floor surfa e, it must be overed with a non- ombustible material
at least 12mm thi k, in a ordan e with Building Regulations Approved Do ument J, to a distan e of 30 m in
front of the stove and 15 m to ea h side measuring from the door of the ombustion hamber.
