SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATION
•Before harvesting, ensure that the height stops have been set to the correct ground
clearance. An operator should always support the weight of the machine on the stop-pins.
•Always check that the height stop-pins have been placed in the same position on both sides.
With sloping ground, the harvester will rest on the stop-pin on the higher side. Hence, the
machine can be maintained in a level position by making adjustments to the lower side.
•The straddle-tractor design, track width, and wheel-spacing make this machine more difficult
to manoeuvre than other types of agricultural equipment.
•The harvester MUST be maintained in a level side-slope position at all times. Use extreme
caution when changing directions, or turning at headlands, and drive at a speed appropriate
for the ground conditions.
•The machine is capable of operating on gradients up to 35% (15.75 degrees) and
counteracting side-slopes up to 25% (11.25 degrees). Provided the soil conditions give
adequate stability and grip - otherwise machine performance may deteriorate significantly.
SAFETY WARNING: The slope and tilt figures are merely indicative & the
manufacturer accepts no liability in case of an accident.
•Do not allow children, or inexperienced people, on or near the harvester while operating.
Only authorized personnel should be within 10 metres of the machine, if running.
•Fatigue can cause serious injury or death. Ensure that all operators are well rested and
alert at all times.
•Hearing protection is MANDATORY, whenever the noise level exceeds 85 db (A). We
recommend operators consult their tractor documentation for typical engine noise.
•Eye Protection is MANDATORY around this harvester when in operation. Ensure that all
operators wear safety glasses, or similar, to protect from any potential flying debris.
•It is MANDATORY that all personnel working around the harvester wear “high-visibility”
safety vests at all times. This is especially important during any night time operations.
•Never leave the harvester unattended with the engine running, even for short periods.
Always switch off the engine and remove the ignition key.
•It is essential to follow the instructions for daily cleaning of the machine (as described later
in this manual).
•This grape harvester has been designed for road-driving with a clearly defined speed limit.
The maximum speed has been determined, with the use of factory approved equipment.

INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
•The machine may only be driven, operated, cleaned, maintained or repaired by persons who
are fully trained and authorised to do so & familiar with its features and the safety measures
that may be required.
•Before operating, adjusting, or servicing the machine it is important to ensure that the safety
instructions in this manual are carefully read and understood by all personnel.
•Ensure that all routine maintenance has been carried out as directed by the manual. This
will ensure the machinery is working safely & will also improve operating performance.
•UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES work on or under the harvester UNLESS - all controls are
off & all power sources have been disabled. Ensure that the machine cannot be started
accidentally, i.e. remove the ignition key, and the park brake has been engaged.
•Never step outside, bypass, or attempt to perform any work outside the top perimeter
guardrails. These barriers are there for your safety and fall prevention.
•NEVER attempt to climb or stand on the belt conveyor for any inspection or maintenance
activities. The conveyor belt surface can be unstable and extremely slippery when wet.
•It is MANDATORY that all maintenance or repairs are to be performed in an equipped
workshop, with the use of suitable platforms, where possible. All routine work must be
performed PRIOR to vineyard operation.
•With any maintenance or repair work always attempt to work from the ground. Lower the
machine & avoid working from heights, if possible.
•Use extreme caution whenever climbing or standing on the collection system area (catcher
plates) for inspection, cleaning or maintenance. This is potentially hazardous due to being
unstable; uneven; at an angle & can be slippery when wet.
•If required, during any lubrication, maintenance or repair procedures - use a stable catwalk,
work platform or access system (compliant with local safety standards).
•Be aware of any exposed hot surfaces or potential temperature hazards. Use caution &
allow sufficient time for parts to cool down before working on the machine.
•Use caution when handling heavy, awkward or bulky objects and be aware of manual
handling hazards. Use appropriate techniques and mechanical lifting aids, where possible.

INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
•Use a WARNING TAG if the machine is not safe for use during breakdown or maintenance
& always remove the ignition key. NEVER operate the equipment if a warning tag is
attached.
•NEVER make any unauthorised modifications to the harvester as you may affect the
machine performance or stability & unapproved changes will void the warranty. By law, any
person who makes such changes – takes on the responsibility for that modification.
•Use extreme caution when handling fuels, solvents and oils. Always wear suitable
protective gear when handling these substances. Ensure there are no ignition sources &
have a fire extinguisher nearby.
•Be aware of the potential for injury due to hydraulic oil at high pressure. Prior to any
mechanical activities, always stop the engine and wear the appropriate protective gear.
•To minimise the chances of any accidents during maintenance, use the correct tool for the
job.
•Take precautions when welding, or using other hot work hazards, as there is a potential risk
of fire and damage to electrical systems.
•Be aware of battery hazards when welding or servicing, as the battery fumes are flammable
& the battery fluid contains sulphuric acid. There is potential risk of explosion or serious
injury on contact.
•Use extreme caution, and be aware of potential slippery surfaces, when washing down the
machine. Operators must wear slip resistant boots & any other personal protective
equipment, as deemed appropriate.
•The fitting of tyres of different dimensions, or types, is prohibited unless the manufacturer
has given prior written consent.
•Check regularly (every 50 Hrs) that the wheel nuts are properly tightened, and that the tyres
are inflated to the correct pressure.

- 13 -
S
ECTION

THREE POINT LINKAGE
•Ensure that the “host” tractor is adequate for the task. - Given the size & weight
characteristics of the harvester.
•The driver and observer are to remain in constant visual, & verbal, contact whenever
connecting or disconnecting the harvester from the tractor. This procedure must not be
performed at night, or in poor lighting conditions.
•Always check the tractor PTO is off prior to starting the engine. Never engage the PTO
when the engine is off.
•Ensure the tractor PTO turns in the correct direction, and the speed is right. (540 rpm). The
PTO guard must be in good condition - change immediately if worn or defective.
•For safety, always disengage the PTO shaft whenever the angle between the tractor and the
harvester becomes too tight (i.e. when turning sharply).
•Contact of the universal coupling with the tractor, or harvester, may cause severe damage.
VINEYARD DRIVING
•Prior to harvesting, inspect the terrain for any obstacles or unexpected ground conditions.
This is especially important at the ends of the vine rows, when turning the harvester.
•Always check the overhead area for power-lines or other potential obstructions. Especially
when the machine is riding high and the unloading arm, or bins, are raised.
•On level ground, check that all tractor / harvester brakes are functioning correctly before
travelling in any hill-side conditions or sloping ground.
•Check the height of the lowest grape bunches and set the height stops accordingly.
•Before starting, ensure that nobody is inside the machine or in the immediate proximity.
Sound the horn prior to starting the engine or manoeuvring the harvester.
•In the working (off-set) position the tow harvester is primarily suited for making RIGHT-
HAND turns only. For the stability of the machine, avoid left hand turns if at all possible.
•When operating, adjust your speed appropriate to the terrain to give enough reaction time.
Exercise care, make allowances for sloping ground, and practice slow pre-planned
movement at all times.
•Always maintain the machine in a level side-ways operating position. Plan any slope
corrections in advance and use extreme caution when turning, or during changes in terrain.
•Before leaving the driver's seat, ensure that the controls are in neutral, lower the machine
onto the stops, engage the parking brake, stop the engine and remove the ignition key.

ROAD DRIVING
•Prior to any road travel, all harvesting systems must be switched off and the side-bins (if
fitted) must have been emptied.
•On level ground, check that all tractor / harvester brakes are functioning correctly before
travelling on public roads. Ensure that all brake lights are working.
•Check that the clearance lights and revolving light are functioning. Ensure these lights are
switched on prior to road travel, as a hazard warning to other road users.
•For road travel purposes, only ever use the warning lights as designated above. The use of
working lights on the highway is prohibited.
•NEVER travel on public roads with the harvester in the working (off-set) position. For
maximum stability the harvester must always be located directly behind the host tractor.
•Always travel on public roads with the harvester lowered as far as practicable. Hence,
support the machine on the height stops, approximately 200 mm off the ground.
•Always observe the local road regulations, especially in regard to the movement of
agricultural machinery.
•When on the road, be sure to manoeuvre slowly and brake gently. This is especially
important when around other road users.
•Be aware of your speed when travelling on roads, as there is potential for serious injury.
Drive at a speed which is appropriate for the terrain, weather conditions & braking
performance of the tractor/harvester combination.
•NEVER exceed the maximum speed limit for the harvester. At high speeds the operator
risks overloading the tyres, as the speed rating is weight influenced. They may also risk
generating too much heat in the wheel hubs, which will possibly damage the seals.
