GTCO CalComp InterWrite PRS Receiver User manual

The PRS RF Clickers and RF Receiver add a new dimension to the PRS system—two-way communications. The benefit of the
radio frequency technology behind the Clickers and Receivers is:
• The line-of-sight transmission required by the PRS IR Transmitters and Receivers is not necessary,
• One RF Receiver can process transmissions from up to 2000 RF Clickers,
• Two-way transmission makes it possible for PRS to confirm a Response transmission, obviating the need for displaying the
Response Grid, which is essential in the IR-equipped environment to confirm receipt of data transmissions.
The addition of two-way radio frequency transmission to PRS has necessitated some changes to the PRS software, as well as
making a number of new features possible. The Class is the focal point of the new RF-based PRS. You will start a Class. Student
remote Clickers will scan for a Class and join it.
Installation on Windows and the Mac
Please install the InterWrite PRS software first so the appropriate hardware drivers are in place when you connect the USB PRS
RF Receiver.
Software Installation
InterWrite PRS is compatible with Windows 2000 and XP and Mac OS X 10. The InterWrite software must be installed on
Windows by a user with Administrator privileges and on the Mac by a user with Admin privileges.
Windows Installation
1Log in as Administrator. Insert the InterWrite PRS software CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. The installer will
autoload. If it doesn’t, click on the Start button on the Windows Task Bar and select Run from the menu. Type X:\setup.exe
(Xrepresents the CD drive letter).
2When the InstallShield Wizard appears, follow the onscreen instructions for the software installation.
Mac Installation
1Log in as Admin. Insert the InterWrite PRS software CD into the CD-ROM drive on your Mac. A PRS CD icon will appear
on your desktop.
2Double-click on the PRS icon on the desktop to display the CD’s contents. Double-click on the Install InterWrite PRS icon.
3Follow the onscreen instructions for the software installation.
Hardware Installation
Your PRS RF Receiver ships with an AC/DC Adaptor Class 2 Power Supply and a 15 foot USB cable.
1Plug the Power Supply into a wall or power strip outlet.
2Plug the other end of the Power Supply into the PRS RF Receiver.
3Plug the square USB B connector into the PRS RF Receiver.
4Plug the flat USB A connector into an available USB port your computer.
Your RF Receiver does not rely on line-of-sight transmission, so it does not have to be positioned at the front of the room. Just
be aware that it works best when it is not sitting on a metal surface (such as your computer box).
Start PRS
When you installed the RF Receiver, Windows found it and assigned it to a COM Port. When the PRS software is
started up, it scans the COM ports and makes note of where the RF Receiver has been assigned. Port Checks are not
necessary.
Next it scans for Classes. It will compile a list of RF Classes and give you the option of starting one of those RF
Classes.
