INTRODUCTION
The
Hammond
HL1000A
HF
LinearAmplifier
isa
one-stage
linear
amplifierusing
one
glassenvelope
3-500Z
Eimac
Triode.
The
unit
isa
completelyself-containedtable
top
unitcapable
of
1000watts
input.
In
keepingwith
the
pasttradition
ofthe
HL500
and
HL750
seriesamplifiers,
only
the
highestqualitycomponentswereused
inthe
design
of
thisamplifier.
The
amplifier
is
designed
for
SSB,
CW,
RTTY
orAM
operation
onthe
amateurbands
between
3.5and
29.7mHz.
The
amplifier
canbe
factory
modified
for
frequenciesoutside
the
amateurbands
for
commercial
or
military
applications.
The
HL1008A
comes
factory
wired
for115vacbutcanbe
re-wired
for230vac
operation.

There
are
verydangerousvoltages
presentinside
the
amplifierwhen
the
power
is
inON
position.Removing
thetop
cover
while
theAC
power

OPERATINGLOCATION
The
amplifiermust
be
located
inan
openareasuchthat
the
flow
ofair
from
thetopis
unrestricted.
Location
should
beas
close
as
possible
toa
reliable

INSTALLING
TUBE
(See
Figure
4)
1.
Remove
4
boltsfrombottom
of
linearcabinet
and
carefullyslide
the
innerpart
ofthe
unitfrom
the
rear
ofthe
cabinet.
2.
Remove
the
perforated
top
cover
ofthe
amplifier
givingaccess
tothe
interior
oftheRF
section
ofthe
amplifier.
3.
Putthe
3-500Z
tube
inthe
socket.
Be
verycareful
notto
exert
any
lateral
or
twistingpressure
on
the
glassportion
ofthe
tube.
The
tube
is
easily
damaged.
Fasten
the
platelead
tothe
anode
connector.
Remove
the
screw
inthetopofthe
anodeconnector
on
topofthe
tube
and
flex
the
parasiticchoke
and
plate
lead
until
the
mountinghole
inthe
plate
is
positioneddirectlyabove
the
screwhole
inthe
anode
connector.
Insert
the
screw
and
hold
the
plate
leadfirmlywhiletightening
the
screw.

Do
not,
under
any
circumstances,
exert
too
great
a
pressure
or
twisting,bendingmotion
in
the
anodeconnector
or
glassportion
ofthe
tubes.
Excessivepressure
can
cause
a
hair-linefracture
in
the
tubes'
glassenvelope,destroying
the
tube.
The
tubes'
pins
are
alsoparticularly
delicate,
and
can
easilybreak
ifthe
tube
isnot
inserted
and
removedverycarefully.
4.
Replace
thetop
shield
but
leave
the
outsidecabinet
off
until
the
amplifier
has
beenconnected
and
tested.
CABLING
All
the
followingcablesmust
be
connectedbefore
the
amplifier
is
operated.
AC
POWERCABLE
The
HL1000Aamplifiercomesfrom
the
factorywired
for
operationfrom
a 120vac
single
phase,
60Hz
powersource.
The
greenwire
inthe
powercord
isthe
ground
wire
and
must
be
connected
tothe
neutralprimary
ofthe
plug
that
you
select
for
connection
into
the
powerline.
The
black
and
whitewiresmust
be
connected
tothe
other
two
pins
forthe120vac
operation.
The
otherlead
of
the
Belden
AC
cordplugsdirectlyinto
the
rearpanel
AC
input
socket.
