3.5 Precautions
Warning Read the installation instructions before connecting
the system to the power source.
Warning This product relies on the building's installation for
short-circuit (overcurrent) protection. Ensure that a
fuse or circuit breaker no larger than 120 VAC, 15A
U.S. (240 VAC, 10A international) is used on the
phase conductors (all current-carrying conductors).
Wechselstrom, 10 A (bzw. in den USA 120 V
Wechselstrom, 15 A) an den Phasenleitern (allen
stromführenden Leitern) verwendet wird.
Warning The plug-socket combination must be accessible at
all times, because it serves as the main disconnecting
device.

HOA 7100 MAXLink Optical Amplifier Product Manual Rev C (4/05) 3–5
Warning The unit has more than one power supply
connection; all connections must be removed to
remove all power from the unit.
Warning To prevent bodily injury when mounting or
servicing this unit in a rack, you must take special
precautions to ensure that the system remains stable.
The following guidelines are provided to ensure
your safety:
• This unit should be mounted at the bottom of the
rack if it is the only unit in the rack.
• When mounting this unit in a partially filled rack,
load the rack from the bottom to the top with the
heaviest component at the bottom of the rack.
• If the rack is provided with stabilizing devices,
install the stabilizers before mounting or servicing
the unit in the rack.

Warning Operating the unit in an equipment rack, take the
following precautions:
• Make sure the ambient temperature around the
unit (which may be higher than the room
temperature) is within the limit specified for the
unit.
• Make sure there is sufficient airflow around the
unit.
• Make sure electrical circuits are not overloaded.
Consider the nameplate rating of all the connected
equipment, and make sure you have over current
protection.
