Installation contrary to these guidelines or lack required maintenance will void warranty.
Unit Location
TheDH70canbeinstalledinavarietyoflocationstomeetthe
owner’sneedsaslistedbelow.Inallcaseskeepthefollowing
cautionsinmind:
• Theunitisdesignedtobeinstalledindoorsinaspacethatis
protectedfromrain,oodingand/orotherformsofexcesswater.
Unitisnotdesignedtobeexposedtochlorinatedpoolconditions
orspaceswhereunitwillbeexposedtocorrosivechemicalsor
conditions.
Installtheunitwithspacetoaccessthefrontpanelfor
maintenanceandservice.Alsoalloweasyaccesstothelter
coverpanel.DO NOT INSTALL THE UNIT WITH THE FRONT
PANEL OR FILTER COVER PANEL INACCESSIBLE.
• Avoiddischargingtheairdirectlyatpeople,overthewaterinpool
areas,orotherareasorobjectswheredehydrationorevaporation
ofmoistureisnotdesired.
• Ifusednearwetareas,becertainthereisNOchancetheunitcouldfallintothewaterorbesplashedandthatitis
wiredintoaGROUNDFAULTINTERRUPTERprotectedcircuit(seelocalcodesforotherrequirements).
• AsecondarydrainpanMUSTbeplacedundertheunitifinstalledabovealivingareaoraboveanareawherewater
leakagecouldcausedamage(seelocalcodesforotherrequirements).
• DO NOTlocatetheDH70directlyonstructuralmemberswherenoiseorvibrationmaybeobjectionable.TheDH70
isequippedwithadjustablesupportfeettoraiseandleveltheunitfromthemountingsurface,theseadjustablefeet
shouldbeutilizedtoprovideimproveddrainagefromthedrainpanandshouldbeadjustedtotiltslightlytowardthe
drainutilized.

• Inawholehousesystem,theDH70shouldbelocatedneartheexistingairhandlingsystemtominimizethe
requiredductworkforconnectingoftheDH70system.Whentheremotecontroloptionisused,thecontrol
(humidistat)unitmustbelocatedinthespacethatistobeconditioned.Thecontrol(humidistat)maybelow
voltage(24volt)andshouldbeconnectedtotheDH70withcodeapproved,lowvoltagethermostatcable.
• When a remote Humidistat is utilized, set the unit mounted humidistat to the “OFF” position.
• WhenlocatingtheDH70inareasofextremeheatorhighhumidity,>120-degrees/90%humidity,additional
externalinsulationmayberequiredtopreventundesiredcondensationontheexterioroftheunit.
Electrical Requirements
• TheDH70areequippedwithanappliancecordwithgroundprongandmaybepluggeddirectlyintoagrounded
3prong,120volt,15amphouseholdtypeconvenienceoutlet.Ifusedinawetareasuchasanindoorpool,
sparoom,oranareapronetoooding(basementorcrawlspace),agroundfaultinterrupterprotectedcircuitis
required.Inallcaseslocalcodesprecedeoverallinstallationandwiringrecommendations.
• Do not remove ground prong. Do not use an adaptor. Do not use an extension cord.
• IfaremotewallmountedHumidistatisutilized,installtheHumidistatcontrolinacentralareaofthestructure
whereitwillsensetherelativehumidityofthestructureaccurately.Donotinstallthecontrolwhereitmaynot
accuratelysensetherelativehumidity:nearHVACsupplyregisters,nearexteriordoors,ornearapoolorspa.Do
notinstallthecontrolinanareanotservedbytheDH70.TheinstallermustsupplythewiringbetweentheDH70
andtheHumidistatcontrol.Besuretosafelyroutethecontrolwiringtopreventdamageduringinstallation.Be
carefulnottocrossthewireswhenconnectingtheDH70andthecontrolordamagetothetransformermayresult.
• When a remote Humidistat is utilized, set the unit mounted humidistat to the “OFF” position.
• ConsulttheelectricalschematicinthismanualorinsidetheaccesspaneloftheDH70beforemakingthecontrol
connections.
Condensate Removal
Condensatedrainsbygravity,viathe¾”PVCdrainoutletlocatedattwolocations,frontsideandbackside.Use
ofbothisnotrequired.Asshippedthereardrainisplugged,andmayberemovedandreplacedintothefrontdrain
outletiftherearoutletisused.Alsoincludedwiththeunitisthecondensatedraintrap,thistrapmustbeusedto
allowtheunittodrainproperlyduringoperationandpreventairfrombeingdrawnfromtheareawheretheunitis
located.Anoptionalcondensatepumpkitmaybeinstalledifaliftisrequiredtodisposeofthecondensate.Ifan
optionalpumpisusedthecondensatetrapisstillnecessaryandmustbeinstalledbetweentheunitandpump.
Whenthecondensatedrainislocatedin,orpassesthrough,anon-conditionedspace,thecondensatepiping
shouldbeinsulatedtopreventthedrainlinesweatingthatmaycausedamage.
Avoid double trapping.Whereexibletubingisused,orthepossibilitiesofsagsoccurringinthedrainlineexist,or
thedrainterminatesinasumpbelowthewaterline,thedrainmustbeventedtoallowproperdraining.Acondensate
drainventmustbeinstalledattheoutletsideofthedraintrap,betweenthetrapandthebalanceofdrainline.
Ducting (SeeDuctingDiagram)
A. Installing Duct
TheDH70isequippedwithan8”roundductcollarinlet,andan8”roundexhaust/supplycollarthatprovidesfor
connectingtothesupplydistributionsystem.Inallcasessoundductdesignpracticesmustbefollowedsuchas
thoseprovidedinACCAmanual“D”,orASHRAE’s“FundamentalsofAirSystemdesign”.

B. Ducting for Dehumidification
Fortheidealinstallation,drawairfromthecentralpartofthehomeandreturnittotheisolatedareasofthehomelikethe
bedrooms,den,utilityroom,orfamilyroom.TheductworkoftheexistingHVACsystemcanbeusedtosupplyairtothe
home.Iftheexistingsupplyductadequatelyservesallareasofthehome,dischargethesupplyairoftheDH70intothe
returnoftheexistingHVACsystemwhereitcandistributedthroughoutthespace.Theexistingreturnduct,ifadequate,
maybeusedasreturnfortheDH70,DO NOTdrawairdirectlyfromthekitchen,laundry,orisolatedbasement.Youmay
drawairfromabasementthatisopentothehome.AllexibleductingconnectedtotheDH70shouldbeapprovedby
localcodesandinmostcasesinsulated.
• Returnairductsshouldbedesignedtoallowunimpededairowtothereturnsideofthesystem.Forreturnsless
than10’inlength,an8”roundorequalmaybeutilized.Multiplereturnsareacceptable.
• ThesupplyairoutletandthereturnairinletarelocatedoneachendoftheDH70.Alengthofacousticalex
ductingontheoutletoftheDH70willreduceairnoise.AlengthofexibleductingonallDH70ductconnectionsis
recommendedtoreducenoiseandvibrationtransmittedtorigidductworkinthestructure.
• DuctingtheDH70asmentionedinthe“Ducting”sectionsrequiresconsiderationofthefollowingpoints:
• DuctSizing:Fortotalductlengthsupto10’,useaminimum8”diameterroundorequivalentrectangular
Forlongerlengths,upto25’,useaminimum10”diameterorequivalentductsize.Grillsordiffusers
utilizedmustnotexcessivelyrestrictairow.
• IsolatedAreas:Effectivedehumidicationmayrequirethatductingbebranchedtoisolated,stagnant
areas.Use8”orlargerdiameterbranchductingtoeachoftwoorthreeareas,use6”orlargertoeachof
fourormoreareas.
ConnectingtoExistingHVACSystems:Forproperoperation,connectingtoexistingairhandlerandductsystems
requiresthefansofeachsystemtobeinterlockedutilizingthelowvoltageinterlockmethodprovidedintheDH70low
voltageconnectiondiagram.Refertolowvoltageconnectiondiagraminthisdocumentandontheunit.
C. Installation in a Basement or Crawl Space with an Existing Forced Air HVAC System (Whole
House Dehumidification)
IfthestructureinwhichtheDH70SystemistobeinstalledhasanexistingforcedairHVACsystem,andthissystem
servestheareasthataredesiredtobecontrolled,utilizetheHVACsystemtomaketheDH70Systeminstallationeasier
andprovidebetterwholehousetypesystemperformance.
Basement or Crawl Space Installation: Installaseparate8”returnfortheDH70inacentralareaofthestructureorif
thereturnductingisadequatetapintotheexistingreturnductsystemnearthereturnairgrill.Ductthesupplyofthe
DH70SystemtothereturnductingoftheexistingHVACsystem.Thefaninterlockprovisionmustbeutilizedforproper
systemperformance.
D. Installation in an Attic with an Existing Forced Air HVAC System (Whole House
Dehumidification)
ALWAYSinstallasecondarydrainpanwithadrainoroatinterruptforcondensationundertheDH70inanatticto
preventcondensateoverowthatmaydripdowndamagingtheceilingorlivingspacebelow.
Installaseparate8”returnfortheDH70inacentralareaofthestructureorifthereturnductingisadequatetapinto
theexistingreturnductsystemnearthereturnairgrill.DuctthesupplyoftheDH70Systemtothereturnductingofthe
existingHVACsystem.Thefaninterlockprovisionmustbeutilizedforpropersystemperformance.
E. Installation in a Structure with Two Forced Air HVAC Systems (Whole House
Dehumidification)
AttachtheDH70returntoanindependentreturnfromtheupperlevel.AttachtheDH70supplytothereturnofthe
basementHVACsystem.Thiswillpromotecirculationofairthroughthewholestructurefromtheupperleveltothelower
levelthroughtheDH70.IftheDH70isnotconnectedtobothHVACsystems,itmaynotcontrolthehumidityoftheentire
structure.Thefaninterlockprovisionshouldbeconnectedtothelower,ducted,HVACsystemandmustbeutilizedfor
propersystemperformance.

F. Installation in a Structure with No Existing Forced Air HVAC System (Whole House Dehumidification)
WheninstallingtheDH70inastructurethatdoesnothaveaforcedairHVACsystem,asinglereturnfortheDH70
shouldbeinstalledincentralopenareaofthestructure.DO NOTlocatethereturninabathroomorakitchen.The
supplyoftheDH70shouldbelocatedintheremoteareasofthestructure(suchasbedrooms,den,etc.).Byducting
thisway,theairinsidethestructurewillcirculatethroughtheDH70tobelteredanddehumidied.5”diameterductis
recommendedforbranchestothebedrooms,6”diameterductisrecommendedforbranchestolargerareas.
G. Installation in a Sealed Crawl Space or Sealed Attic (Spot Dehumidification)
WheninstallingtheDH70insealedcrawlspaceorsealedattic,asinglereturnfortheDH70shouldbeinstalledin
centralopenareaofthestructure.Iftheareaisopenwithoutpartitionsreturnductingisnotnecessary.Supply
ductingisrecommendedtoenhancetheperformanceofthesystem,aminimumlengthofsupplyduct,3’to6’will
aidinairdistribution.Ifthearea(s)beingservedaredividedbywallsorpartitions,asupplyandreturnductsystemis
recommended.InallcasessoundductdesignpracticesmustbefollowedsuchasthoseprovidedinACCAmanual“D”,
orASHRAE’s“FundamentalsofAirSystemDesign”.

TheDH70isdesignedtodeliverdehumidied,lteredairtothelivingspace,andisequippedwithanonboard
humidistatandfancontrolandcanbeequippedwithvariousaccessoriestoenhanceitsoperation,includingaremote
humidistat,andyoursystemmayincorporateanyorallofthedescribedoperationalcomponents
Itisrecommendedthattheindoorenvironmentmaintainamaximumrelativehumiditylevelof50%to60%.Other
factorsmaydictatearelativehumidityleveldifferentthantherecommended,suchasmusicalinstruments,antiques,
books/papers,orspecialsituations.Winterminimumhumiditylevelsof30-35%maynotbeattainablewithout
supplementalhumidication(Humidier),andmaynotbedesiredduringtimesoflowoutdoortemperatures.
System Variations:
Humidity Control - Standard
Thesystemmaybeinstalledasfreestandingorincorporateductingtoanareaorexistingheating/coolingsystem.
ControlisprovidedbyHumidistatwithadialstemtypeadjustmentbuiltintotheunit.Setthedesiredhumidityset
pointbyturningthedialstemattothecorrespondingsetpointindicatedonthefaceoftheunit.Thishumidity
controlunitwilloperatethecompressorandcirculationfanwhenthedehumidicationsystemisactivated,working
onlywhenthereisacall,ordemandfordehumidication.
Remote Humidity Control (Wall Mounted)
When a remote Humidistat is utilized, set the unit mounted humidistat to the “OFF” position.
Thiscontrolprovidesthesamecontrolfunctionsasabovebutwithgreaterprecisionandcanbelocatedinthespace
foreasieraccess,andmayincludeadditionalfeatures.Availableasanaccessoryitemthesecontrolsmayhave
differentfeatures;refertoinstructionsincludedwiththecontrol.

Typical System Operation Sequence
Upontherelativehumidityexceedingthehumidistatsetpoint,normallybyapproximately3%,thehumidistatwill
energizethedehumidicationandaircirculationcomponentsoftheDH70(notethetimedelayonsomeelectronic
humidistats).IftheDH70systemisconnectedandinterlockedwithanexistingHeating/Airconditioningsystem,
thissystemscirculationfanwillalsobeenergized.TheDH70willcontinuetooperateuntilthehumiditylevelis
reducedtothesetpointselectedonthehumidistatandthenwillcycleoff.Duringthiscycle,theaircirculated
throughtheDH70systemwillbelteredanddehumidied.Ifanoutsideventilationairducthasbeeninstalled,fresh
airwillbelteredanddehumidiedandintroducedtothespaceduringthiscycle.
Coil Freeze Protection (Auto Defrost)
Maintenance
High Efficiency Air Filter
TheDH70issuppliedwitha2”pleatedhighefciencyairlter.The2”lterisratedMERV11,andismoreefcient
thanstandardairltersandisabletocatchmuchsmallerparticlesthatcanaggravateallergies.Operatingthe
unitwithadirtylterwillreducedehumidiercapacityandefciencyandmaycausethecompressortocycleoff
andonunnecessarily.Undernormaloperatingconditions,thelterwilllastapproximately6months.However,in
highparticulateconcentrationsmorefrequentreplacementsmayberequired.Itisrecommendedthatthelterbe
inspectedregularlyfortherstthreetofourmonthstodeterminetheloadingandcorrectreplacementintervals.
Yourinstallationcontractorshouldbecontactedforassistance.
Toaccesstheairlter,removethelteraccesspanelfromtheFrontorBacksideoftheunit,marked“FilterAccess”.
Theltershouldbereadilyvisibleandcanberemovedbypullingitstraightoutoftheunit.
Replacementlterscanbepurchasedfromyourinstallationcontractorororderedfromthefactoryifalocal
representativeisnotavailable.DO NOToperatetheunitwithoutthelter,orwithalesseffectivelterthanoriginally
supplied.Theheatexchangecoilsinsidetheunitcouldbecomecloggedandrequiredisassemblytoclean.
FAILURE TO MAINTAIN SERVICE AND UTILIZE CLEAN FILTERS WILL VOID WARRANTY.
Oiling & Lubrication
Thefanmotorisfactorylubricatedandsealed,andnofurtheroilingisrequired.Therearenoothercomponents
requiringtheadditionoflubricants.
Optional Fresh Air Ventilation (OSA)
Ifyoursystemincludestheoptionalfreshairsystem,itwillhaveanoutsideairintake.Checkandcleanthescreen
ontheoutdoorfreshairintakeseasonally.Theintakescreenmustremainclearofanydebristhatcouldrestrict
airowintothesystem.Thisintakeshouldneverbelocatedwhereundesirablefumes,gasesorodorsmakebe
takenupbytheintake.Inallcaseslocalcodesprevailastothelocationoffreshairintakes.

DH70PartswarrantedbyGeneralFilters,Inc.(“Company”)foraperiodoftwo(2)yearsfromthedateoftheoriginalinstallation,
wheninstalledinresidentialapplications(“LimitedWarrantyPeriod”).
“EXTENDED COVERAGE EQUIPMENT”: COMPRESSORS
DH70-Five(5)Years.Compressorwarrantyisve(5)yearsfromthedateoftheoriginalinstallationinallresidentialapplications
(“ExtendedWarrantyPeriod”).(Note,commercialapplicationswarrantyis2years.)
EXCLUDED COMPONENTS
Thefollowingcomponentsarenotcoveredbythiswarranty:cabinets,cabinetpieces,airlters,driers,refrigerant,refrigerantline
sets,wiring,fuses,andunitaccessories.
CARE OF EQUIPMENT
TheCoveredEquipmentmustbeproperlyinstalled,operatedandmaintainedinaccordancewiththeinstallation,operationand
maintenanceinstructionsprovidedwitheachunitofCoveredEquipment.FailuretoprovidemaintenanceaccordingtoCompany’s
instructionswillvoidthisLimitedWarranty.Ownermaybeaskedtoprovidewrittendocumentationofannualandotherperiodic
preventivemaintenance.
WARRANTY TERMS
ThisLimitedWarrantyisvalidonlyfortheoriginalcustomerpurchasingfromCompanyoranauthorizedreseller(“Owner”),subject
toproofofpurchaseandnottransferable.ThisLimitedWarrantywillbenullandvoiduponattemptedassignmentortransfer.If
duringtheLimitedorExtendedWarrantyPeriod,CoveredorExtendedCoverageEquipmentfailsbecauseofamanufacturing
defect,CompanywillprovideafreereplacementparttotheOwnerthroughalicensedservicecontractor.AllrepairsofCoveredand
ExtendedCoverageEquipmentmustbemadewithauthorizedservicepartsbyalicensedservicedealerorcontractor.Ownermust
payshippingchargesandallothercostsofLimitedWarrantyservice.Companywillnotpaylaborinvolvedindiagnosticcallsorin
removing,repairing,servicingorreplacingparts.Suchcostsmaybecoveredbyaseparatewarrantyprovidedbytheinstaller.This
LimitedWarrantydoesnotcoveranycostsrelatedtochangestoCoveredorExtendedCoverageEquipmentthatmayberequired
byanycodes,laws,orregulationsthatmaybecomeeffectiveafterinitialpurchaseofthesamebyOwner.NOTE:Ifthedateof
originalinstallationcannotbeveried,thewarrantyperiodwillbedeemedtobeginone(1)monthsafterthedateofmanufacture.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES
AsafurtherconditiontoobtainingLimitedWarrantycoveragehereunder,OwnermustprovideavalidwarrantyclaimtoCompany
suchthatCompanyreceivessuchclaimpriortotheendoftheapplicableLimitedorExtendedWarrantyPeriod.Companyshall
havenoobligationhereunderwithrespecttoanyclaimreceivedbyCompanyaftertheexpirationoftheapplicableLimitedor
ExtendedWarrantyPeriod.Asafurtherconditiontoobtaininglimitedwarrantycoveragehereunder,theOwnermustpresentforms
ofinvoicesevidencingproofofpurchaseandinstallationofCoveredEquipment.The Owner must complete our online Returns
Form (www.generalfilters.com/returns), to arrange for applicable Limited Warranty service.LimitedWarrantyservicewillbe
performedduringcustomary,daytimeworkinghours.IftheCoveredorExtendedCoverageEquipmentmustbeshippedforservice,
OwnershallbesolelyresponsibleforproperlypackagingtheCoveredorExtendedCoverageEquipment,forallfreightcharges,and
forallriskoflossassociatedwithshipment.Ownermustalsoprovidecompletemodelandserialnumber,proofofrequiredperiodic
maintenance,installationdateandlocationandanaccuratedescriptionoftheproblem.
WARRANTY LIMITATIONS
1. ThisLimitedWarrantyisvoidiftheCoveredorExtendedCoverageEquipmentisremovedfromtheoriginalinstallationsite.
2. ThisLimitedWarrantydoesnotcoverdamageordefectresultingfrom:
• Flood,wind,re,lightning,mold,orinstallationandoperationinacorrosiveatmosphere,orotherwiseincontactwith
corrosivematerials(chlorine,uorine,salt,recycledwastewater,urine,fertilizers,orotherdamagingsubstancesor
chemicals)
• Accidentorneglectorunreasonableuseoroperationoftheequipmentincludingoperationofelectricalequipmentat
voltagesotherthantherangespeciedontheunitnameplate(includesdamagescausedbybrownouts)
