1. How to use these instructions
The instructions contained in this document provide the information necessary for
installation and operation of this product.
These instructions are intended for use by personnel qualified to install, operate and
maintain the HEIDENHAIN, Amplifier for servo motors.
A qualified person is someone who’s technical education, knowledge and experience,
as well as knowledge of the relevant system of rules qualifies the person to evaluate the
delegated task and recognize possible hazards.
Messages shown in these instructions
The following examples show how safety, property damage and general advice messages
are shown in these instructions. Read and understand these types of messages before
proceeding to prevent personal injury or property damage.

The following messages provide safety information for preventing personal injury and
product damage:
Read and understand these instructions before use to avoid the possibility of
personal injury or death.
Hazardous live parts may be exposed if the unit is opened. Do not open the
product. There are no serviceable items inside.
The protection provided by the equipment may be impaired if used in a manner
not specified. Do not use this product in any way other than it’s intended use.
Notice
For safety, operation and handling of the unit, keep this document for future
reference.
4. Specifications
The Amplifier for servo motors is an amplifier designed to control servo motors used with
HEIDENHAIN products that support CNC positioning. This unit is designed for indoor use
only. The amplifier components shall only be installed as described in these instructions.
Installation and maintenance are to be performed by qualified personnel only.

5. Mounting
Do not mount in a position that makes it difficult to access the power switch or
power cable.
The Amplifier for servo motors is designed to be placed on a stable surface. No further
mounting procedures are necessary.

6. Installation
The safety of any system incorporating the use of this product is the
responsibility of the assembler or installer of the system.

Warning! Risk of electrical shock
A risk of electrical shock exists if this product is not properly grounded.
To avoid the hazard, always use a 3-conductor (grounded) power cord and
ensure the ground is properly wired to the building installation.
Warning! Risk of fire
A risk of fire exists if a power cord not meeting minimum specifications is used.
To avoid the hazard, always use power cords that meet or exceed the minimum
listed specifications.
Connecting a power cord
To connect a power cord:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Verify that the power cord is not plugged into the main power supply
 Insert the female end of the power cord into the power connector on the front of the
product

Interface connections
Warning! Risk of personal injury or death
A risk of personal injury or death exists if Limit Enable inputs are not properly
connected. Limit Enable inputs are available on the Axis Motor connector and
the Limit Switch connector.
To avoid the hazard use only one pair of Limit Enable inputs per axis. Never use
the Limit Enable inputs from both connectors. If both are used, limit switch
function is severely impaired.
Notice
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic
discharge (ESD). Observe precautions for handling ESD sensitive devices and
never touch connector pins unless properly grounded.
Notice
Do not overtighten interface cable connection screws to avoid damage to the
product.
Connecting an axis motor cable
This product provides interface connections for axis motor input/output. A label is provided
near each connector.
To connect an axis motor cable:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Connect the cable to it’s connector
 Tighten the cable connector screws until they are snug

1GND Power supply return. Connect to system ground at this pin.
2Motor + Amplifier output to motor (+) winding
3Motor - Amplifier output to motor (-) winding
4Tach - Negative terminal of brush tachometer
5GND / Tach + Signal ground, or positive terminal of brush tachometer

Connecting an Inhibit cable
This product provides an interface connection for an Inhibit input. A label is provided near
the connector.
To connect an Inhibit cable:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Connect the interface cable to it’s connector
 Tighten the cable connector screws until they are snug

Connecting a limit switch input cable
Notice
A risk of property damage exists if Limit Enable inputs are not properly
connected. Limit Enable inputs are available on the Axis Motor connector
and the Limit Switch connector. To avoid the hazard use only one pair of
Limit Enable inputs per axis. Never use the Limit Enable inputs from both
connectors. If both are used, limit switch function is severely impaired.

To connect a limit switch cable:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position

Connecting a CNC input cable
This product provides an interface connection for CNC control. This connector is for use
with HEIDENHAIN ND 1300 QUADRA-CHEK and IK 5000 QUADRA-CHEK products only.
Use HEIDENHAIN cable ID 540660-56. A label is provided near the connector.
To connect a CNC interface cable:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Connect the interface cable to it’s connector
 Tighten the cable connector screws until they are snug
Connecting a joystick input cable
This product provides an interface connections for a joystick control input. This connector
is for use with HEIDENHAIN joysticks ID 681044-xx only. Use HEIDENHAIN cable ID
540660-53. A label is provided near the connector.
To connect a joystick cable:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Connect the interface cable to it’s connector
 Tighten the cable connector screws until they are snug
7. Power-up
For additional start-up information refer to the documentation provided with the
ND 1300 QUADRA-CHEK, IK 5000 QUADRA-CHEK and any additional accessories or
components that are a part of the system.
To power-up the product:
 Press the On (supply) side of the power switch to power-up the amplifier
8. Maintenance
Warning! Risk of danger
A risk of personal injury or death exists if regular inspection and maintenance
tasks are not completed.
Follow the recommended inspection and maintenance schedule to keep the
product in a safe operating condition.
The following inspection and maintenance procedures are required to ensure the product
is maintained in a safe operating state.

Cleaning
Warning! Risk of electrical shock
While cleaning it is possible to conduct electricity from hazardous live parts if
liquid enters the product.
To avoid the hazard, always power off the product, disconnect the power cable
and never use a cloth that is dripping or saturated with water.
Notice
Never use abrasive cleaners, strong detergents or solvents to avoid damage to
the product.
To clean:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Disconnect the power cable from the source of power
 Wipe exterior surfaces with a cloth dampened with water and a mild household
detergent
Replacing a fuse
Warning! Risk of electrical shock
When replacing a fuse it is possible to touch hazardous live parts.
To avoid the hazard, always power-off the product and disconnect the power
cable.
Notice
Use only replacement fuses meeting rated specifications to avoid damage to
the product.
To replace a fuse:
 Verify that the power switch is in the off position
 Disconnect the power cable from the source of power
 Press the fuse holder release until the retaining mechanism is disengaged
 Remove the fuse holder and replace the fuse
 Re-insert the fuse holder and gently press in until the retaining mechanism is engaged
Refer to the Specifications section on page 4 for replacement fuse specifications.

9. Troubleshooting
Warning! Risk of danger
A risk of personal injury or death exists if troubleshooting procedures are not
followed properly.
Follow the recommended troubleshooting procedures to avoid a potentially
hazardous situation.
A table for troubleshooting possible problems is provided below.

HAxis fault
indicator is
illuminated
A motor is stopped or disabled. Check the software settings
and ensure the motor is enabled. Check any devices providing
an inhibit signal to the Inhibit input.
A motor has reached a table limit. Reposition the table and
verify that the limit switches are not engaged.
G5 V indicator is
not illuminated
There is no power to the product. Check power cord and power
connection. Check the replaceable fuse.
Internal electrical problem. Contact a HEIDENHAIN service
technician.

10. Decommissioning
