I.- FEATURES
- Top. Robust and carefully sanded grey cast hob –polished, framed by an enamelled
cast iron frame.
- Grate rising mechanism. The capacity of the hearth is achieved, in this model, by
changing the height of the grate, operating an endless screw. Access is via the ash
cover, where the relevant handle will be found on the inside of the said cover. (Fig. 1).
- Front and sides. The cooker front, columns, fire
door and ash compartment are made of cast iron
with a vitreous porcelain enamel finish and
polished brass hinges.
The sides are made of steel sheets with an enamel
finish that matches the front and doors.
We recommend using a damp cloth with soapy
water for cleaning. Avoid the use of strong
detergents, acids or abrasive products that may
damage the enamel. Dry with a dry cloth.
- Heat resistant top cover. The top cover is made of steel with a vitreous porcelain
enamel finish and features insulation material inside.
When the cooker is in use but not required to prepare food, the top cover may be
lowered with a view to limiting heat loss, if the operational temperature is not too high.
When using at full power, we recommend lifting the cover to avoid damaging the
enamel.
II.- ASSEMBLY
The Hergóm L-05 C.C.E. cooker is supplied in one piece (already assembled) and only
requires connecting to the chimney and to the heating system.
Connection to a metal chimney is recommended following the instructions provided in
the manual for professional installers.
ATENTION. It is very important to maintain a gap of approximately 50 mm. between the
cooker and the nearest pieces of furniture. Radiation to nearby furniture may be
reduced by protecting the areas or sides of the cooker with insulating materials, rock-
fibre, ceramic fibre or similar products.

13
Installing draw regulation valve and cleaning cover
Although the closed cookers have been provided with a system to regulate the
input of fresh air required for combustion, it is advisable, mainly for installations with
high draw systems of over five metres, good construction, insulation... to place a
regulator on the wall, near the cooker output, to help control chimney draw, heat power
and fuel consumption.
The said regulator, given its design, will not control the chimney draw but also provide a
window to access the chimney for cleaning purposes, which will improve its
performance.
The regulator can be easily installed following the instructions indicated in fig. (Fig.11)
The regulator MUST NOT totally close off the passage of fumes, as an accident may
occur if they cannot be evacuated completely.
The open safety section for the circulation of fumes must not be less than 20% of the
cast iron frame gap. If necessary, cut the regulator to provide the above-mentioned gap.

V.- INSTRUCTIONS OF USE
Do not use as fuel wood from the sea; salts contained in it react in the combustion
releasing acids that damage the cast iron and the steel plate.
Every cooker comes with a number of utensils, such as a poker and a scraper to clean
the ash pan and the smoke outlet via the soot cover.
Before lighting the cooker, please check that the smoke conduit is perfectly clean in
order to obtain appropriate draw.
When lighting the cooker, close the hearth door, open the primary air valve located next
to the ash cover and, if necessary, open the said cover.
If the chimney is cold and the chimney effect low, you may introduce papers in the
cleaning hatch on the wall above the cooker.
Once lighted, regulate the cooker by means of the primary air valve located on the ash
and log cover. Take into account that excessive draw will lead to greater coal or wood
consumption and to the overheating of the top. The hob must never reach red-hot
temperatures.
The fuel load must not exceed 50% of the hearth capacity. Do not leave the hearth or
ash covers open.
Do not place wood or coal near the door in order not to damage the enamel finish on
the front.
Cleaning should be performed when the cooker is cold using slightly soapy water and
damp cloths for the enamel parts. Avoid using strong detergents, acid or abrasive
products or any other product that may damage the enamel. Once deteriorated, the
enamel cannot be repaired.

16
Regulating draw
The cooker is supplied with a sliding valve that can be installed in the wall to increase
and reduce the diameter of the chimney and, hence, regulate draw (fig. 11).
The log door and the ash cover are provided with sliding valves that regulate secondary
and primary air intake, respectively.
Direct draw
In order to avoid smoke leaking due to deficient chimney draw (when cold), we
recommend opening the direct draw hatch before lighting the cooker. Pull the control
(button) located on the front, beneath the hob frame. Push the control until it touches
the front, once the chimney is hot.
Lighting for the first time.
When lighting the hearth for the first time we recommend a slow fire for 3 to 4 hours.
This will help stabilise the different components and avoid any possible breakages.
VI.- CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
1.- Enamelled front, hob frame and sides.
Preferably clean when the cooker is cold. Use a damp cloth dipped in soapy water and
then dry.
Avoid using strong detergents or abrasive products that may damage the enamel
All brass hinges should be cleaned in the classical manner using specific products of
this purpose.
Polished top.
To preserve the aspect of this top, clean frequently with a powdered detergent and a
metal scouring pad and then dry. Be careful not to damage the enamel frame.
Ash
When this operation is required, remove the grille and move the ash to the ash pan.
Empty the ash pan in a metal container and immediately remove from the house.
Soot
The cover that has to be removed to clean soot is at the bottom of the front section.
This cover is used to clean soot that may have accumulated at the bottom of the cooker.

17
VII.- SAFETY.
A number of possible risks are present when operating your solid fuel cooker with fuel of
any brand.
The said risks can be minimised if the instructions and recommendations included in
this manual are followed.
Below, we shall recommend some rules and advice but, above all else, we recommend
common sense.
1. Keep any flammable material (curtains, clothes...) away from cooker, at a
minimum safety distance of 0.90 m.
2. Protect nearby furniture with heat resistant materials on the hob and smoke
outlet.
3. Leave a 50 mm. gap between furniture and the sides of the cooker for air to
flow.
4. Ash should be emptied into a metal container and immediately removed from
the house.
5. Do not use flammable liquids to light the cooker. Keep any type of flammable
liquid (petrol, alcohol...) away from the cooker.
6. Inspect the chimney occasionally and clean whenever necessary.
7. Do not place the cooker near walls that may catch fire easily or that have
some type of lining that may be damaged or deformed by temperature
(varnish, paint, PVC...).
8. The metalic parts and the handles of the cooker reach high temperature
during its operation. It is advisable the use of a protective glove to handle the
air valves and the opening and closing of the doors.
VIII.- MAINTENANCE PRODUCTS.
INDUSTRIAS Hergóm, S.A. places a range of products for the preservation of its
cookers at your disposal:
- Refractory putty, to improve air-tightness and sealing.
- Anti-soot, a powerful catalyst that enhances the elimination of non-burnt by-
products.
