His Master's Voice JB-1G User manual

HOW
TO
OPERATE
There
are
two controls with roller type
knurled knobs. These
are
Tuning,
and
combined
ON/OFF
Switch
and
Volume.
To
switch on,
turn
the "VOL. OFF" knob
upwards until a click
is
heard; further
rotation increases
the
volume. To switch
OFF, reverse
the
procedure.
To tune a radio station,
turn
the
Tuning
knob until the desired
station
is
indicated
by
the
pointer on the appropriate scale.
Then
tune
until
the
station
is
heard clearly.
The receiver
is
provided with a built-in
ferrite rod aerial. This type
of
aerial has
directional properties,
and
the
reception of
weak transmissions
can
often
be
improved
by rotating
the
instrument for optimum
results.
The directional properties of this type of
aerial may also be employed
to
eliminate
or
reduce electrical interference. To do
this,
the
instrument should be rotated to a
position where
the
interference
is
reduced
to a minimum
and
then,
leaving it in this
position,
the
desired station should be
tuned-in.
EARPIECE
A socket
is
provided on
the
left -hand
side of
the
receiver into which
the
plug
of
the
earpiece
may
be inserted, for personal
listening.
The
speaker
is
disconnected
when the earpiece
is
in use.
BATTERY
With
this receiver,
the
battery
consump-
tion
is
increased with
an
increase
in
volume
level.
In
order
to
obtain long
battery
life,
only sufficient volume should be used to
give
pleasant
listening.

A worn-out
battery
should
not
be left
in
the receiver for
any
length
of
time,
as
it
may leak
and
cause
serious damage.
To remove the battery, unscrew the
captive screw
at
the
back, until it
is
dis-
engaged. The
back
of the
cabinet
may be
prised off with a coin,
in
the
slot provided
at
the bottom. The old
battery
should be
replaced with a new one, Eveready Type
2362.
After
replacing receiver
in
leather
case, check
that
receiver has not been
accidentally switched
"On".
WARNING
To avoid discharging the battery, with its
consequent inconvenience, be sure
to
turn
the "VOL. OFF" switch to the
"OFF"
posi-
tion immediately
after
use. The red arc on
the control
is
visible only when
the
battery
is
switched on
and
serves
as
a warning
indicator.
CARRYING
CASE
The
surface of the carrying
case
may
be cleaned, if this becomes necessary, by
sponging with warm water,
to
which a little
soap has been added. It should
then
be
polished with a soft, dry cloth.
MAINTENANCE
Should you require
any
further assist-
ance
or advise, or should your receiver
need maintenance or adjustment, com-
municate with the supplier from whom you
purchased
the
receiver. The facilities
of
our Service Dept.
are
at
the
disposal of
your retailer should
any
assistance be
necessary.
"H.MV"
Service Division, located
in
the
Capital City of the
State
in
which you
reside, may be
able
to render assistance
under warranty if your regular retailer
is
unable to do so.
