The power switch turns the DVD video camera/recorder on and off, leaving the date/time feature unaffected. If the
camera/recorder is to be left unattended for a long period of time, turn it off.

BLUE or BLACK.

BROWN or RED. On noaccount connect either of thesewires totheterminal marked E or bythe

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
In addition to the careful attention devoted to quality standards in the manufacture of your video product, safety is a
major factor in the design of every instrument. But, safety is your responsibility too.
This page lists important information that will help to assure your enjoyment and proper use of DVD video camera/
recorder and accessory equipment.

accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

9Protect the mains lead from being walked on or
pinched particularly at plugs, convenience
receptacles, and the point where they exit from the
apparatus.
10 Only use attachments/accessories specified by the
manufacturer.
11 Use only with the cart, stand,
tripod, bracket, or table specified
by the manufacturer, or sold with
the apparatus. When a cart is
used, use caution when moving
the cart/apparatus combination to
avoid injury from tip-over.
12 Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or
when unused for long periods of time.
13 Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Servicing is required when the apparatus has been
damaged in any way, such as mains lead or plug is
damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have

Cautions When Using
Handle the liquid crystal display (LCD) with care:
•TheLCD is averydelicatedisplay device: Donot press its surfacewith force, hit it or prick it with
asharp object.
•If you push theLCD surface, unevenness in display may occur. If unevenness does not disappear
soon, turn theDVD video camera/recorder off, wait for afew moments, andthen turn it on again.
•Donot placetheDVD video camera/recorder with theopen LCD screen down.
•ClosetheLCD monitor when not using theDVD video camera/recorder.
Liquid crystal display (LCD) and viewfinder:
•TheLCD screen andviewfinder aretheproducts of highlyprecisetechnology. Among thetotal
number of pixels (approx. 120,000 pixels for LCD monitor andequivalent toapprox. 200,000 pixels
for viewfinder), 0.01% or less pixels may bemissing (black dots) or may remain lit as coloured dots
(red, blue, green). This shows thelimitations of thecurrent technology, anddoes not indicatea
fault that will interferewith recording.
•TheLCD screen andviewfinder will beslightlydimmer than usual when theDVD video camera/
recorder is at low temperature, as in coldareas, or immediatelyafter power is turned on. Normal
brightness will berestored when thetemperatureinside theDVD video camera/recorder rises.
Hold the DVD video camera/recorder correctly:
•Donot holdtheviewfinder or LCD monitor when lifting theDVD video camera/recorder: The
viewfinder or LCD monitor coulddetach andtheDVD video camera/recorder may fall.
Do not subject the DVD video camera/recorder to impact:
•This DVD video camera/recorder is aprecision machine. Takegreat carethat you do not strikeit
against ahardobject or let it fall.
•When using atripod, firmlysecuretheDVD video camera/recorder on it. Donot usetheDVD
video camera/recorder with atripod in aplacewhereit is subject toseverevibrations or impact.
No sand or dust!
•Finesandor dust entering theDVD video camera/recorder or AC adapter/charger couldcause
malfunctions or defects.
No water or oil!
•Water or oil entering theDVD video camera/recorder or AC adapter/charger couldcauseelectric
shock, malfunctions or defects.
Heat on surface of product:
•Thesurfaces of theDVD video camera/recorder, AC adapter/charger andbatterywill beslightly
warm, but this does not indicateafault.
Screen on connected TV:
•Never leavethedisc navigation screen, still imageor cameraimagedisplayed on your TV towhich
theDVD video camera/recorder is connected: Doing socouldresult in displayed imageretention
or phosphor degradation of TV screen.
Be careful of ambient temperature:
•Using theDVD video camera/recorder in aplacewherethetemperatureis over 40ºC or under 0ºC
will result in abnormal recording/playback.
•Takecarethat thetemperatureof this DVD video camera/recorder, when connected toPC does
not riseexcessively(referencefor usage: approx. 30 minutes at about 30ºC).
•Donot leavetheDVD video camera/recorder on beach sandor in aclosed vehiclewherethe
temperatureis veryhigh for along time: This couldcausemalfunctions.

Do not point directly at the sun:
•If direct sunlight strikes thelens or viewfinder, theDVD video camera/recorder couldmalfunction
or afirecouldoccur.
•Donot leavetheDVD video camera/recorder with theLCD screen exposed todirect sunlight: This
couldcausemalfunctions.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder near TV or radio:
•This couldcausenoisetoappear on theTV screen or in radiobroadcasts.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder near strong radio waves or magnetism:
•If theDVD video camera/recorder is used near strong radiowaves or magnetism, such as near a
radiowavetower or electric appliances, noisecouldenter video andaudiothat arebeing recorded.
During playback of normallyrecorded video andaudio, noisemay alsobepresent in pictureand
sound.
At worst theDVD video camera/recorder couldmalfunction.
Do not expose the DVD video camera/recorder to soot or steam:
•Thick soot or steam coulddamagetheDVD video camera/recorder caseor causemalfunctions.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder near corrosive gas:
•If theDVD video camera/recorder is used in aplacewherethereis denseexhaust gas generated
bypetrol or diesel engine, corrosivegas such as hydrogen sulfide, or sulfur such as in ahot spring
area, theexternal or internal terminals couldcorrode, which woulddisablenormal operation, or
thebatteryconnecting terminals couldcorrode, sopower will not turn on.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder near ultrasonichumidifier:
•With somewater in humidifier, calcium andother chemicals dissolved in water couldscatter in the
air, andwhiteparticles couldadheretotheoptical head of theDVD video camera/recorder, which
couldcauseit tooperateabnormally.
Do not expose the DVD video camera/recorder to insecticide:
•Insecticide entering theDVD video camera/recorder coulddirtythelens in laser pickup block,
andin such acasetheDVD video camera/recorder might not operatenormally. Turn theDVD
video camera/recorder off andcover it with vinyl sheet, etc. beforeusing insecticide.
Do not use a generally available 8cm CD lens cleaner:
•Cleaning thelens is not necessarywhen using this DVD video camera/recorder in theusual way.
•Using 8 cm CD lens cleaner couldcausethis DVD video camera/recorder tobefaulty.
•If you havetoclean thelens, useaHitachi Maxell cleaner that is exclusivelyfor 8 cm DVD discs.
Be careful of moisture condensation:
•When you movetheDVD video camera/recorder between places wherethedifferencein
temperatures is great – such as entering alodgefrom aski slopeor going out of acooled room or
vehicle– condensation (vapour in air warmed or cooled towater droplets) couldoccur on thelens
and/or inside theDVD video camera/recorder. If condensation occurs, do not open thecover of
disc or cardinsertion block if possible. If condensation occurs on thelens, wipeit off with asoft,
drycloth. Even if theexternal surfaceof DVD video camera/recorder has dried, condensation may
remain inside: Turn theDVD video camera/recorder off andleaveit in adryplacefor at least 1 – 2
hours beforeusing it again.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder for a long uninterrupted period of time:
•This DVD video camera/recorder cannot beused for along timecontinuouslyas asurveillance
camera/monitor. If you useit for along continuous period of time, thetemperatureof DVD video
camera/recorder couldexceed thelimit andtherecording/playback operation may slow down or
other faults couldoccur. If this happens, turn it off andwait for awhilebeforeusing it again.

Do not turn the DVD video camera/recorder off while the ACCESS indicator or
CARD ACCESS indicator is lit or blinking:
•TheACCESS or CARD ACCESS indicator is lit or blinking
toshow that datais being written todisc or card, or being
read from it. At this time, do not do anyof thefollowing,
soas not todamagethedata:
−Removebattery
−Disconnect AC adapter/charger
−Plug or unplug PC connection cable
−Removedisc or card
−Subject DVD video camera/recorder tosevere
vibrations or impact
−Violentlyopen or closetheLCD monitor
TheACCESS indicator will light for awhileafter recording
is finished. Whileit is lit, do not subject theDVD video
camera/recorder toanyvibration or impact, anddo not
disconnect thebatteryor AC adapter/charger.
If you turn theDVD video camera/recorder off whilethe
ACCESS or CARD ACCESS indicator is lit or blinking, turn
it on again with thedisc or cardloaded in it: Repair of the
disc or cardwill beexecuted automatically(see page108).
Do not wipe the DVD video camera/recorder case with benzene or thinner:
•Thecoating of casecouldpeel off or thecasesurfacecoulddeteriorate.
•When using achemical cleaning cloth, follow theinstructions.
Also read the instructions attached with optional accessories:
•For optional accessories, observethecautions andfollow instruction manuals attached.
The battery provided has not been charged at time of purchase:
•Chargeit beforeusing theDVD video camera/recorder (see page26).
•Thebatterywill dischargeas timepasses. (Thebatteryis produced sothat it discharges on its own
in order toprotect its characteristics.)
Disccannot be inserted or removed unless a charged battery or AC adapter/
charger is connected to the DVD video camera/recorder.
Be sure to set the power switch to “OFF” when turning the DVD video camera/
recorder off:
•Disconnecting thebatteryor AC adapter/charger whiletheDVD video camera/recorder is being
powered couldcauseafault.

Cautions When Storing
Do not leave the DVD video camera/recorder in a place where the temperature is
very high for a long period of time:
•Thetemperatureinside aclosed vehicleor trunk can becomeveryhigh in ahot season. If you leave
theDVD video camera/recorder in such aplace, it couldmalfunction or thecasecouldbe
damaged. Also, do not exposetheDVD video camera/recorder todirect sunlight or placeit near a
heater.
Do not store the DVD video camera/recorder in a place where the humidity is high
or in a dusty place:
•Dust entering theDVD video camera/recorder couldcausemalfunctions. If thehumidityis high,
thelens couldbemouldy, andtheDVD video camera/recorder couldbecomeinoperable. It is
recommended that you put theDVD video camera/recorder with desiccant in abox when storing
it in acloset, etc.
Do not store the DVD video camera/recorder in a place subject to strong
magnetism or intense vibrations:
•This couldcausemalfunctions.
Detach the battery from the DVD video camera/recorder and store it in a cool place:
•Leaving thebatteryattached or storing it at high temperaturecouldshorten its life.
Suggestions and Restrictions
Make a trial recording:
•Always makeatrial recording beforedoing actual recording tomakesurethat recording is normal.
Thedatathat havenot been stored normallybecauseof adefect in theDVD video camera/
recorder cannot berestored.
It is recommended that you useDVD-RAM disc from which recorded contents can bedeleted for
trial recording.
Do not use the DVD video camera/recorder for professional applications:
•This DVD video camera/recorder is designed andproduced for home-userecording andplayback.
The recorded contents cannot be compensated for:
•Hitachi cannot compensatefor anydamages caused when recording is not made normallyor
recorded contents cannot beplayed back becauseof adefect in theDVD video camera/recorder,
disc or card. Also, Hitachi cannot beresponsiblefor your recorded video andaudio.
•If you or athirdpartymakeamistakewhen handling this DVD video camera/recorder, disc, card,
etc., therecorded contents may belost. Wecannot beresponsiblefor compensation for damagedue
toloss of recorded contents.

CLEANING
Be sure to set the power switch to “OFF” before cleaning this DVD video camera/recorder.
●Cleaning LCD screen and camera
lens
Usedry, soft cloth towipedirt off. When
cleaning theLCD screen, becareful not touse
force, scratch it, or subject it toimpact: Doing
such couldcauseadefect in thescreen, result in
display unevenness, or damagetheLCD
monitor.
●If dust adheres to the viewfinder
lens, remove it using a cotton
swab, etc.
Donot rub thelens with force: Doing socould
scratch thelens.
●Do not use benzene or thinner to
clean DVD video camera/recorder
case
Thecoating of casecouldpeel off or thecase
coulddeteriorate. Wipeoff dirt on thecasewith
amoist cloth which has been completelywrung
out. When using chemical cleaning cloth, follow
instructions for use.
HANDLING DISCS
●Using discs
Discs areverydelicaterecording media.
Carefullyread thefollowing cautions and
observethem:
•Always useabrandnew disc when recording
important material.
•Besurenot totouch therecording surfaceof
disc, or dirtyor scratch it.
•If there is dust, scratch, dirt on disc or if it is
warped, thefollowing phenomenamay occur:
−Block noisein playback
image
−Momentarystop of
playback image
−Soundinterrupted during
playback, or abnormal
sound
−Bluethumbnail
display* (Fig. 1)
−Disc cannot correctly
berecognised
−Disc cannot be
initialised
−Delay between video
andaudio
Even if disc is normal, theabovephenomena
may occasionallyoccur. WhiletheACCESS
indicator is lit, do not subject disc tovibrations
or impact, andavoidusing DVD video
camera/recorder at extremelyhigh or low
temperatures, or in environment where
condensation is likelytooccur.
•When recording images,
theDVD video camera/
recorder may avoidthe
portions of disc where
recording is not possible,
duetodust, scratches,
etc. [It will pause9at
such aportion and
automaticallyrestart
recording (:).]
This will causerecording tobeinterrupted for
several seconds toseveral minutes, and
multiplethumbnails will becreated byone
recording session as shown above. In this case,
therecordabletimeon disc will decrease.
•Becareful when removing thedisc sincethe
metal of removal slot of DVD video camera/
recorder, anddisc itself, may behot.
●Storing discs
•When storing disc, replaceit in theplastic case
in which it was purchased.
•Becareful that nocondensation occurs on disc.
•Donot placedisc in following places:
−Direct sunlight for a long time
−Where humidity is high or in dusty place
−Where there is heat from a heater, etc.
