with Intertek safety standards and when installed per these instructions and used as intended it will provide
warmthandcomforttoyouroutdoorareaformanyyears.
Prior to installation and operation ensure that all specications, dimensions, and minimum clearances stated in
this manual are observed. You must read all warnings and safety information, and understand all of the information
in this manual. All installation requirements must be observed and met.
A. Before installing this unit, check the MINIMUM CLEARANCE TO COMBUSTIBLES section to ensure that the
surroundingareaisproperly sized for the installation.
B. Theunitisforoutdooruseonly.DO NOTinstallorusethisapplianceinsideabuilding,garage,oranyother
enclosedarea,includingrecreationalvehiclesand/orboats. THIS UNIT MUST BE INSTALLED IN SUCH A MANNER
THAT ALL VENT OPENINGS ON THE UNIT REMAIN CLEAR AND FREE OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS AT ALL TIMES AND
DURING ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS.

E. The gas piping system must be sized to provide minimum inlet pressure at the maximum ow rate (BTU/hr).
Unduepressurelosswilloccurifthepipeistoosmall,ortherunistoolong.Gassupplypipemustbe1/2”
minimuminteriordiameter.Ifthegaslineislongerthan20’.alargerdiameterlinemaybenecessary.Refer
totheNFPA54guidelinesforfurtherdetails.
F. Forinstallationsatelevationsabove2,000ft.,contactyourlocaldealerorgassupplierbeforeinstalling.Input
ratingsshouldbereducedapproximately4%foreach1,000ft.abovesealevel.RefertotheNationalFuel
GasCode.
G. Theunitanditsindividualshutoffvalvemustbedisconnectedfromthegas-supplypipingsystemduringany
pressuretestingofthatsystemattestpressuresinexcessof1/2psi(3.5kPa).Thisisaccomplishedbyclosing
thegas-supplylinevalve.Theunitmustbeisolatedfromthegas-supplypipingsystembyclosingitsindividual
manualshutoffvalveduringanypressuretestingofthegas-supplypipingsystemattestpressuresequalto
orlessthan1/2psi(3.5kPa).
H. Whenanapplianceisforconnectiontoaxedpipingsystem,theinstallationmustconformwithlocalcodes,
orintheabsenceoflocalcodeswiththeNationalFuelGasCode,ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54;InternationalFuel
GasCode,PropaneInstallationCode,GSAB149.1;orPropaneStorageandHandlingCode,B 149.2, as
applicable.Theappliance,wheninstalled,mustbeelectricallygroundedinaccordancewithlocalcodes,
orintheabsenceoflocalcodeswiththeNationalElectricalCode,ANSI/NFPA70;ortheCanadianElectrical
Code,GSAC22.1,ifapplicable.

J. GAS-SUPPLY PLUMBING REQUIREMENTS

OPERATING THE UNIT SAFELY AND CORRECTLY
A. Installationandrepairshouldbedonebyaqualiedprofessionalservicetechnician.Theapplianceshould
beinspectedbeforeuseandatleastannuallybyaqualiedserviceperson.Morefrequentcleaningmaybe
requiredasnecessary.Itisimperativethatcontrolcompartment,burnersandcirculatingairpassagewaysof
theappliancearekeptclean.
B. Carefullyinspectforshippingdamage.Ifanypartsaredamaged,callthedealer.
C. WEAR GLOVES AND USE EXTREME CAUTION WHENEVER INSTALLING AND HANDLING THIS PRODUCT AND ITS

SAFE USE & MAINTENANCE OF PROPANE GAS
CYLINDERS
CYLINDER/CONNECTOR REQUIREMENTS
a. Propane-gascylinders,valves,andhosesmustbemaintainedingoodconditionandmustbereplacedif
thereisvisibledamagetoeitherthecylinderorvalve.Ifthehoseiscutorshowsexcessiveabrasionorwear,
itmustbereplacedbeforeusingthegasappliance(seee.).
b. This unit, when used with a cylinder, should be connected to a standard 5-gallon (20 lb.) propane-gas
cylinderequippedwithanOPD(OverllPreventionDevice).TheOPDhasbeenrequiredonallcylinderssold
sinceOctober1,1998,topreventoverlling.
c. Cylinderdimensionsshouldbeapproximately12”(30.5mm)indiameterand18”(45.7em)high.Cylinders
mustbeconstructedandmarkedinaccordancewiththeSpecicationsforPropaneGasCylindersofthe
U.S.DepartmentofTransportation(D.O.T)ortheNationalStandardofCanada,CAN/CSA-8339,Cylinders,
Spheres,andTubesforTransportationofDangerousGoods.
d. Thecylinderusedmustincludeacollartoprotectthecylindervalve,andthecylindersupplysystemmustbe
arrangedforvaporwithdrawal.
e. Thepressureregulatorandhoseassemblysuppliedwiththisoutdoorgasappliance(L.P.modelsonly)must
beused.Originalandreplacementpressureregulatorandhoseassembliesmustbethosespeciedbythe
manufacturerforconnectionwithacylinderconnectingdeviceidentiedasTypeIbytheANSIZ21.58-
2005/CGA1.6-2005(seePARTSLISTfororderinginformation).
f. Thepropane-gascylindervalvemustbeequippedwithacylinderconnectioncouplingdevice,described
asTypeIinthestandarddenedinparagraphe.above.ThisdeviceiscommonlydescribedasanAcme
threadquickcoupler.
g. Ifthepropane-gascylindercomeswithadustplug,placethedustcaponthecylindervalveoutletwhenever
thecylinderisnotinuse.
QUICK COUPLER OPERATION
To connect the regulator/hose assembly to the propane gas cylinder valve tting:Pressthehandnutonthe
regulatorovertheAcmethreadttingonthecylindervalve.Turnthehandnutclockwisetoengagethethreads
andtightenuntilsnug.Theuseofpliersorawrenchshouldnotbenecessary.Onlycylindersmarked“propane”
maybeused.
To disconnect:Turnthehandnutcounterclockwiseuntildetached.
Carefully inspectthehoseassemblyeachtimebeforethegasisturnedon.Acrackedorfrayedhosemustbe
replacedimmediately.Iftheapplianceis stored indoors, the cylinder must be disconnected and removed.
Disconnectedcylindersmustbestoredoutdoors,outofthereachofchildren,withthreadedvalveplugstightly
installed,andmustnotbestoredinabuilding,garage,oranyotherenclosedarea.

theapplianceisnotinuse,eventhoughthegasowisstoppedbyasafetyfeaturewhenthecoupleris
disconnected.

withadamagevalveconnection.
Thepropanecylindermustbeconstructedandmarkedinaccordancewith
thespecicationsforLPgascylindersoftheU.SDepartmentofTransportation
(DOT)orthestandardforcylinders,spheresandtubesfortransportationof
dangerousgoodsandcommission,CAN/CSA-B339.
Thecylindermusthavealistedoverllingpreventiondevice.
The cylinder must have a connection device compatible with the
connectionfortheappliance.
Thecylinderusedmustincludeacollartoprotectthecylindervalve.
Neverconnectanunregulatedpropanecylindertotheheater.
Attachregulatortocylinder.Completeattachment.
Installthecylinder.
• Donotsitorstandonthisappliance.
• Donotuseindoorsandinsideanyenclosure.
• Retaintheassemblyinstructionforfuturereference.
• Installer-Pleaseleavetheseinstructionwiththeowner.
1. Make 2-3 oz. of leak solution (one part liquid dish washing
detergentandthreepartswater).
2. Applyseveraldropsofsolutionwherethehoseattachestothe
regulator.
3. Applyseveraldropsofthesolutionwheretheregulatorconnects
tothecylinder.
4. MakesurealllightvalvesareOFF.
5. TurnthecylindervalveON.
If bubbles appear at any connection, there is a leak.
1. TurnthecylindervalveOFF.
2. If the leak is at the hose/regulator connection: tighten the
connection and perform another leak test. If the bubbles
continueappearing,thehoseshouldbereturnedtotheplace
ofpurchase.
3. Iftheleakisattheregular/cylindervalveconnection:disconnect,
reconnect,andperformanotherleakcheck.Ifyoucontinueto
seebubblesafterseveralattempts,thecylindervalveisdefective
andshouldbereturnedtothecylinder’splaceofpurchase.
If NO bubbles appear at any connection, the connections are secure.
Note:Whenevergasconnectionsareloosenedorremoved,youmustperformacompleteleaktest.
Completetheinstallation.

• Placethedustcaponthecylindervalveoutletwheneverthecylinderisnotin

BEFORE TURNING GAS SUPPLY ON
1. Yourgasbarrelwasdesignedandapprovedforoutdooruseonly.DONOTuseitinsideabuilding,garage,
oranyotherenclosedarea.
2. Makesuresurroundingareasarefreeofcombustiblematerials,gasoline,andotherammablevaporsor
liquids.
3. Ensurethatthereisnoobstructiontoairventilation.Besureallgasconnectionsaretightandthereareno
leaks.
4. Besurethecylindercoverisclearofdebris.Besureanycomponentremovedduringassemblyorservicingis
replacedandfastenedpropertostarting.
BEFORE LIGHTING
1. Thegasbarrelshouldbethoroughlyinspectedbeforeeachuse,andbyaqualiedservicepersonatleast
annually.Ifrelightingahotgasbarrel,alwayswaitatleast5minutes.
2. Inspectthehoseassemblyforevidenceofexcessiveabrasion,cuts,orwear.Suspectedareasshouldbeleak
tested.Ifthehoseleaks,itmustbereplacedpriortooperation.Onlyusethereplacementhoseassembly
speciedbymanufacturer.
LIGHTING
1. Makesurethecontrolknobisinthe“OFF”position
2. FullyopenLPcylindervalve.
Note:Forinitialstartorafteranycylinderchange,holdthecontrolknobinfor2minutestopurgeairfromthe
gaslinesbeforeproceeding.
3. Pushinthegascontrolknob,turncounterclockwiseto“LOW”andpresstheredignitorbuttontolightthegas
barrel.Ifneeded,keepthecontrolknobdepressedandcontinuepressingtheredignitorbuttonuntilthe
gasbarrellights(youshouldheataclickingsound).
4. After the gas barrel  lights, release the control knob. To increase the ame, turn the control knob
counterclockwiseto“HIGH”.Todecreasetheame,turnthecontrolknobclockwiseto“LOW”.
Note:Ifburnerfailstoremainlit,allvalvesshouldbeclosedandawaitingperiodofatleast5minutesshould
passbeforeattemptingtolight.
WARNING:
• CARBONMONOXIDEHAZARD
• Foroutdooruseonly.Neveruse inside house, or
otherunventilatedorenclosedarea.Thisgasbarrel
consumesair(oxygen).Donotuseinunventilated
orenclosedareastoavoidendangeringyourlife.
WARNING:Veryhotwhileinoperation!Neverlean
over the gas barrel while in use. Do not touch tile
ofsparkguardwhilethegasbarrelisinoperation,
waituntilthegasbarrelhascooleddownafteruse.
Failuretocomplywiththeseinstructionsmayresultin

WHEN THE GAS BARREL IS ON
Theburnerwilldisplaytonguesofblueandyellowame.Theseamesshouldnotbeyelloworproducethick
blacksmoke, indicatinganobstructionofairowthroughtheburners.Theame shouldbeblue withstraight
yellowtops.Ifexcessiveyellowameisdetected,turnofftheheaterandconsultthe“Troubleshooting”section.
RE-LIGHTING
1. TurnthecontrolknobtoOFF.
2. Repeatthelightingstepsinthe“Lighting”sectionofthismanual.
SHUT DOWN
