with Intertek safety standards and when installed per these instructions and used as intended it will provide
warmthandcomforttoyouroutdoorareaformanyyears.
Prior to installation and operation ensure that all specications, dimensions, and minimum clearances stated in
this manual are observed. You must read all warnings and safety information, and understand all of the information
in this manual. All installation requirements must be observed and met.
A. Before installing this unit, check the MINIMUM CLEARANCE TO COMBUSTIBLES section to ensure that the
surroundingareaisproperly sized for the installation.
B. Theunitisforoutdooruseonly.DO NOTinstallorusethisapplianceinsideabuilding,garage,oranyother
enclosedarea,includingrecreationalvehiclesand/orboats. THIS UNIT MUST BE INSTALLED IN SUCH A MANNER
THAT ALL VENT OPENINGS ON THE UNIT REMAIN CLEAR AND FREE OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS AT ALL TIMES AND

E. The gas piping system must be sized to provide minimum inlet pressure at the maximum ow rate (BTU/hr).
Unduepressurelosswilloccurifthepipeistoosmall,ortherunistoolong.Gassupplypipemustbe1/2”
minimuminteriordiameter.Ifthegaslineislongerthan20’.alargerdiameterlinemaybenecessary.Refer
totheNFPA54guidelinesforfurtherdetails.
F. Forinstallationsatelevationsabove2,000ft.,contactyourlocaldealerorgassupplierbeforeinstalling.Input
ratingsshouldbereducedapproximately4%foreach1,000ft.abovesealevel.RefertotheNationalFuel
GasCode.
G. Theunitanditsindividualshutoffvalvemustbedisconnectedfromthegas-supplypipingsystemduringany
pressuretestingofthatsystemattestpressuresinexcessof1/2psi(3.5kPa).Thisisaccomplishedbyclosing
thegas-supplylinevalve.Theunitmustbeisolatedfromthegas-supplypipingsystembyclosingitsindividual
manualshutoffvalveduringanypressuretestingofthegas-supplypipingsystemattestpressuresequalto
orlessthan1/2psi(3.5kPa).
H. Whenanapplianceisforconnectiontoaxedpipingsystem,theinstallationmustconformwithlocalcodes,
orintheabsenceoflocalcodeswiththeNationalFuelGasCode,ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54;InternationalFuel
GasCode,PropaneInstallationCode,GSAB149.1;orPropaneStorageandHandlingCode,B 149.2, as
applicable.Theappliance,wheninstalled,mustbeelectricallygroundedinaccordancewithlocalcodes,
orintheabsenceoflocalcodeswiththeNationalElectricalCode,ANSI/NFPA70;ortheCanadianElectrical
Code,GSAC22.1,ifapplicable.

OPERATING THE UNIT SAFELY AND CORRECTLY

SAFE USE & MAINTENANCE OF PROPANE GAS
CYLINDERS
CYLINDER/CONNECTOR REQUIREMENTS
a. Propane-gascylinders,valves,andhosesmustbemaintainedingoodconditionandmustbereplacedif
thereisvisibledamagetoeitherthecylinderorvalve.Ifthehoseiscutorshowsexcessiveabrasionorwear,
itmustbereplacedbeforeusingthegasappliance(seee.).
b. This unit, when used with a cylinder, should be connected to a standard 5-gallon (20 lb.) propane-gas
cylinderequippedwithanOPD(OverllPreventionDevice).TheOPDhasbeenrequiredonallcylinderssold
sinceOctober1,1998,topreventoverlling.
c. Cylinderdimensionsshouldbeapproximately12”(30.5mm)indiameterand18”(45.7em)high.Cylinders
mustbeconstructedandmarkedinaccordancewiththeSpecicationsforPropaneGasCylindersofthe
U.S.DepartmentofTransportation(D.O.T)ortheNationalStandardofCanada,CAN/CSA-8339,Cylinders,
Spheres,andTubesforTransportationofDangerousGoods.
d. Thecylinderusedmustincludeacollartoprotectthecylindervalve,andthecylindersupplysystemmustbe
arrangedforvaporwithdrawal.
e. Thepressureregulatorandhoseassemblysuppliedwiththisoutdoorgasappliance(L.P.modelsonly)must
beused.Originalandreplacementpressureregulatorandhoseassembliesmustbethosespeciedbythe
manufacturerforconnectionwithacylinderconnectingdeviceidentiedasTypeIbytheANSIZ21.58-
2005/CGA1.6-2005(seePARTSLISTfororderinginformation).
f. Thepropane-gascylindervalvemustbeequippedwithacylinderconnectioncouplingdevice,described
asTypeIinthestandarddenedinparagraphe.above.ThisdeviceiscommonlydescribedasanAcme
threadquickcoupler.
g. Ifthepropane-gascylindercomeswithadustplug,placethedustcaponthecylindervalveoutletwhenever
thecylinderisnotinuse.
QUICK COUPLER OPERATION
To connect the regulator/hose assembly to the propane gas cylinder valve tting:Pressthehandnutonthe
regulatorovertheAcmethreadttingonthecylindervalve.Turnthehandnutclockwisetoengagethethreads
andtightenuntilsnug.Theuseofpliersorawrenchshouldnotbenecessary.Onlycylindersmarked“propane”
maybeused.
To disconnect:Turnthehandnutcounterclockwiseuntildetached.
Carefully inspectthehoseassemblyeachtimebeforethegasisturnedon.Acrackedorfrayedhosemustbe
replacedimmediately.Iftheapplianceis stored indoors, the cylinder must be disconnected and removed.
Disconnectedcylindersmustbestoredoutdoors,outofthereachofchildren,withthreadedvalveplugstightly
installed,andmustnotbestoredinabuilding,garage,oranyotherenclosedarea.

Thepropanecylindermustbeconstructedandmarkedinaccordancewith
thespecicationsforLPgascylindersoftheU.SDepartmentofTransportation
(DOT)orthestandardforcylinders,spheresandtubesfortransportationof
dangerousgoodsandcommission,CAN/CSA-B339.
Thecylindermusthavealistedoverllingpreventiondevice.
The cylinder must have a connection device compatible with the
connectionfortheappliance.
Thecylinderusedmustincludeacollartoprotectthecylindervalve.
Neverconnectanunregulatedpropanecylindertotheheater.
Attachregulatortocylinder.Completeattachment.
Installthecylinder.
• Donotsitorstandonthisappliance.

1. Make 2-3 oz. of leak solution (one part liquid dish washing
detergentandthreepartswater).
2. Applyseveraldropsofsolutionwherethehoseattachestothe
regulator.
3. Applyseveraldropsofthesolutionwheretheregulatorconnects
tothecylinder.
4. MakesurealllightvalvesareOFF.
5. TurnthecylindervalveON.
If bubbles appear at any connection, there is a leak.
1. TurnthecylindervalveOFF.
2. If the leak is at the hose/regulator connection: tighten the
connection and perform another leak test. If the bubbles
continueappearing,thehoseshouldbereturnedtotheplace
ofpurchase.
3. Iftheleakisattheregular/cylindervalveconnection:disconnect,
reconnect,andperformanotherleakcheck.Ifyoucontinueto
seebubblesafterseveralattempts,thecylindervalveisdefective
andshouldbereturnedtothecylinder’splaceofpurchase.
If NO bubbles appear at any connection, the connections are secure.
Note:Whenevergasconnectionsareloosenedorremoved,youmustperformacompleteleaktest.
Completetheinstallation.

BEFORE TURNING GAS SUPPLY ON
1. Yourgasbarrelwasdesignedandapprovedforoutdooruseonly.DONOTuseitinsideabuilding,garage,
oranyotherenclosedarea.
2. Makesuresurroundingareasarefreeofcombustiblematerials,gasoline,andotherammablevaporsor
liquids.
3. Ensurethatthereisnoobstructiontoairventilation.Besureallgasconnectionsaretightandthereareno
leaks.
4. Besurethecylindercoverisclearofdebris.Besureanycomponentremovedduringassemblyorservicingis
replacedandfastenedpropertostarting.
BEFORE LIGHTING
1. Thegasbarrelshouldbethoroughlyinspectedbeforeeachuse,andbyaqualiedservicepersonatleast
annually.Ifrelightingahotgasbarrel,alwayswaitatleast5minutes.
2. Inspectthehoseassemblyforevidenceofexcessiveabrasion,cuts,orwear.Suspectedareasshouldbeleak
tested.Ifthehoseleaks,itmustbereplacedpriortooperation.Onlyusethereplacementhoseassembly
speciedbymanufacturer.
LIGHTING
1. Makesurethecontrolknobisinthe“OFF”position
2. FullyopenLPcylindervalve.
Note:Forinitialstartorafteranycylinderchange,holdthecontrolknobinfor2minutestopurgeairfromthe
gaslinesbeforeproceeding.
3. Pushinthegascontrolknob,turncounterclockwiseto“LOW”andpresstheredignitorbuttontolightthegas
barrel.Ifneeded,keepthecontrolknobdepressedandcontinuepressingtheredignitorbuttonuntilthe
gasbarrellights(youshouldheataclickingsound).
4. After the gas barrel lights, release the control knob. To increase the ame, turn the control knob
counterclockwiseto“HIGH”.Todecreasetheame,turnthecontrolknobclockwiseto“LOW”.
Note:Ifburnerfailstoremainlit,allvalvesshouldbeclosedandawaitingperiodofatleast5minutesshould
passbeforeattemptingtolight.
WARNING:
• CARBONMONOXIDEHAZARD
• Foroutdooruseonly.Neveruse inside house, or
otherunventilatedorenclosedarea.Thisgasbarrel
consumesair(oxygen).Donotuseinunventilated
orenclosedareastoavoidendangeringyourlife.
WARNING:Veryhotwhileinoperation!Neverlean
over the gas barrel while in use. Do not touch tile
ofsparkguardwhilethegasbarrelisinoperation,
waituntilthegasbarrelhascooleddownafteruse.

WHEN THE GAS BARREL IS ON
Theburnerwilldisplaytonguesofblueandyellowame.Theseamesshouldnotbeyelloworproducethick
blacksmoke, indicatinganobstructionofairowthroughtheburners.Theame shouldbeblue withstraight
yellowtops.Ifexcessiveyellowameisdetected,turnofftheheaterandconsultthe“Troubleshooting”section.
RE-LIGHTING
1. TurnthecontrolknobtoOFF.
2. Repeatthelightingstepsinthe“Lighting”sectionofthismanual.
SHUT DOWN
