Hoval products must be installed and commissioned
by specialists only. These instructions are intended for
service engineers. Electrical installation must be per-
formed by a licensed electrical company.

The gas boiler series CompactGas is suitable and
approved for use as heat generator for water heating
plants with permitted ow temperatures up to 110 °C1).
They are designed for closed-circuit plants according to
EN 12828.

1.1 System manua
All instructions relevant to your system can be found in
the Hoval system manual - please keep all manuals! In
exceptional cases, the instructions can be found with the
components!

1.2 General safety instructions
The system may only be placed in operation
if all the relevant standards and safety regula
-
tions have been complied with.
At least the following conditions must be satised for a
trial operation:
- Safety valve installed (system sealed)
- Control in operation (connected to the mains current
supply system)
- Sensor for safety temperature limiter connected
(= boiler temperature sensor)
- System lled with water
- Expansion vessel connected
- Flue gas connectors connected to the ue gas pipeline
at the chimney or ue.
- Burner preset.
WARNING
The heat generator can only be de-energised
by disconnection from the mains (e.g. all-
pole switch).
WARNING
All electric power supply circuits must be
switched o󰀨 before accessing the terminals.
1.3 Explanation of the symbols

1.4 On delivery
Carrreceiving the boiler.y out a visual inspection imme-
diately on. If any damage is found, take the necessary
steps as dened in the delivery contract. The respective
risk carrier bears the cost of repairs.
1.5 Guarantee
The warranty does not cover defects attributable to:
• Failure to comply with these instructions
• Failure to comply with the operating instructions
• Incorrect installation
• Impermissible modications
• Incorrect handling
• Contaminated operating materials (gas, water, com-
bustion air)
• Corrosion by halogen compounds (e.g. paints, adhe-
sives, solvents)
• Unsuitable chemical additives to the heating water
• Damage caused by the application of force
• Corrosion by halogen compounds (e.g. paints, adhe-

1.6 Regulations, standards, guidelines
The locally applicable heating system regulations must
be followed when planning, installing and operating the
gas heat generator:
• The regulations of the local building authorities, insur-
ance companies, chimney sweeps and the state/can-
ton. etc. must also be taken into account.
• The regulations of the responsible gas supply company
are to be complied with if using gas.
• Regulations governing the discharge and treatment of
condensate are subject to the specications of the local
water authorities.
• Approval by the authorities may be required for
installation.
The standards, guidelines and ordinances listed for the
specic countries are relevant for the installation and op-
eration of the gas heat generator. The list is intended as
an aid. It is not complete. The currently applicable regula-
tions must be observed.

2. Assembly
2.1 Installation, levelling
No special foundation plate is required for installing the
boiler (su󰀩cient supporting capacity for the boiler must be
guaranteed); see chapter “3.2 Technical data”, page 15
for operational weight.
In the case of boiler installation in the domestic domain,
vibration absorbers are to be mounted under the boiler
plinth rails.
Space required
for mounting the thermal insulation and sheet metal clad-
ding:
is to be at least 40 cm laterally, to the left and right
side of the boiler.
If the distance from walls is less, the boiler must rst be
completely thermally insulated and cased before being
placed into the installation position designated.
Levelling
The upper edge of the boiler water jacket (boiler longitu-
dinal axis) must be levelled by means of a spirit level until
it is aligned exactly horizontally.
Mount the door liner (door cladding) before in
-
stalling the burner (for heating trials, with the
boiler not yet thermally insulated).
Delivery from factory-boiler door opens to the right
However the boiler door hinges can be changed over to
enable the door to be opened to the left. This can be use-
ful when space is limited.
NOTICE
Boiler door hinges may only be changed over
by Hoval Service!
The boiler door must be closed when changing over
the hinges - procedure:
1. For types 1800, 2200, 2800, 3500, 4200 only:
Dismantle support for door positioning (5, Fig. 02).
2. Tighten the top and bottom lock nuts (1, Fig. 01) to-
wards the swing-out ange (manually).
3. Mount ange nuts (2, Fig. 01) with the hole diago-
nally on the new opening side, i.e.,
- change over the bottom left and top right ange nut and
- change over the top left and bottom right ange nut.
4. Open boiler door after removing ange nuts (2, Fig.
02) and turn back locknuts (3, Fig. 02) approx. 1-2cm.
As a result, the boiler door is pressed against the
sealing gasket without hindrance.
5. Mount the burner plug connector on the other side.
The cable must not contact any hot parts.
6. Mount door rabbet (4, Fig. 02) on the other side and
adjust it (angle of door opening 90°).

2.2 Mounting the condensate drain
The consensate drain is to be mounted according to
(Fig. 03, Fig. 04).
!
CAUTION
To achieve a siphon e󰀨ect, the condensate
drain hose must be routed as shown in the
drawing - ll the hose with water before com-
missioning!

7. For types 1800, 2200, 2800, 3500, 4200:
Remount support for door positioning (5, Fig. 01) on
the other side, readjust if necessary resp. level boiler
door rst!
After changing over the hinges it might be necessary to
align (level) the boiler door! (Hanging boiler door)
Procedure:
8. Open boiler door approx. 10 cm.
9. Raise boiler door (20-30 mm) by means of a mechan-
ical jack (or jack) by slightly loosening ange nuts
(8,Fig. 02).
NOTICE
Do not loosen ange nuts entirely nor remove
them as the boiler door might fall down.
10. After leveling the boiler door, retighten ange nuts
(8,Fig. 02) securely.
2.3 Installation of the thermal insulation
CAUTION
Cutting injuries as a result of sharp edges.
•
Handle sections of the cladding carefully
and avoid contact with sharp edges.
1. Wrap the insulating mats (1.1/1.2, Fig. 06) around the
boiler body.
- Place the insulating mat (1.2) so that the black side
is on the outside and the large notch (1.2a) is on
the back.
2. Fit tension springs (2) to hold the ends of the insulat-
ing mats (1.1/1.2) together.
3. Fasten plastic straps (3) and strap fasteners (4).
- Do not overtighten the straps (reduced insulating
value).
4. Place insulating mats (5.1/5.2) against the rear wall
of the boiler and fasten them to each other and to the
insulating mat (1.2) with tension springs.
5. Wrap insulating mat (6) around the ue gas collector
ring and secure with retaining disks (Fig. 05).

6. Wrap the insulating mat (7) around the ue gas col-
lector and x with retaining disks (Fig. 05).
7. Place insulating mat (8.1/8.2/8.3) on the boiler front
and secure with the retaining discs (Fig. 05).
To facilitate attachment, the insulating mats
(8.1/8.2) can be cut through at the narrowest
point.
8. CompactGas (1800-4200):
Attach the insulating mat (9) to the boiler door without
retaining disks.
The following insulating mats are not at-
tached until the cladding is installed (see
chapter 2.4).

2.4 Installation of the cladding and boiler
controller
1. Hook the right side walls (10.x, Fig. 07) on the angle
rail (see detail A).
2. Hook the left side walls (11.x) on the angle rail (see
detail A).
3. Route the condensate drain hose (12) through the
side wall.
4. Hook the rear walls (13.1/13.2) onto the folded edges
of the side wall (10.2/11.2).
- CompactGas (2800-4200):

5. Route the burner cable (14) with the burner connec-
tion plug (14a) through the prepared bore hole (14b)
in the side wall.
- The burner must be connected to the boiler with the
standard plug connection.
- The burner cable must be installed so that the plug
connection has to be disconnected in order to swing
out the burner.
6. Mount the boiler controller (15) and wire up the im-
mersion sensor (16) and burner cable (14), see chap-
ter “2.4.1 Installation of boiler controller”, page 12.

7. Insert 2 insulating mats (17.1/17.2) (to prevent ver-
tical circulation of air) longitudinally on the left and
right.
8. Mount cladding covers (18.1/18.2/18.3) (note the or-
der).
9. Attach C-clips (19) to the top of the front side walls
(10.1/11.1).
10. Installing cladding covers (20):
- Position cladding covers.
- Secure cladding cover with 2 self-tapping screws
Ø 4.8 x 50 (see detail B).
- Align the cladding cover using the height-adjustable
bracket (21).
11. Installing door cladding:
- Fasten 4 or 8 threaded bolts (22) with nut and two
washers to the boiler door (see detail C).
- Push insulating mats (23.1/23.2) onto the boiler
door.
- Cut a recess for the burner ange out of the insulat-
ing mat (23.3).
To achieve continuous thermal insulation be
-
tween the boiler front and burner, the recess
in the insulating mat (23.3) must have the size
and shape of the burner ange.
- Push the insulating mat (23.3) into the recess be-
tween the insulating mats (23.1/23.2).
- Install door cladding (24 or 24.1/24.2).
- CompactGas (1800-4200):
First install lower part of the 2-part door cladding.
12. A󰀩x number plate and, where applicable, mount
manual holder (25) on the side.
13. Install side shutter, see “2.4.2 Installation of side shut-
ters”, page 13.

2.4.2 Installation of side shutters
This cladding shutter system is used to cover the gap
between the boiler door and the side wall, whereby the
shutter must be able to swing outward.

1. On the boiler door hinge side, mount one hinge (26)
each at the top and bottom of the front side wall using
4 self-tapping screws Ø 3.5 x 9.5.
- 45° facets of the hinge must point towards the boiler.
2. Install the side shutter (27) on the two hinges (26) so
that the side shutter can be moved (see detail A and B):
- Install the side shutter to the outer hinge half using
one Phillips screw (28) and one spacer sleeve (29)
each.
- Secure the Phillips screw (28) by means of two
countered hexagon nuts (30) to prevent it from be-
ing pulled out. Do not clamp hinges!

3. Install one magnet (31) each on the top and bottom
hole of the movable side shutter using a hexagon nut
(32), washer (33) and hexagon screw (34) M4 x 10
(see detail C).

4. Open boiler door.
5. On the swivelling side of the boiler door, mount one
hinge (35) each at the top and bottom of the front side
wall using 4 self-tapping screws Ø 3.5 x 9.5.
- 45° facets of the hinge must point towards the boiler.
6. Install the side shutter (36) on the two hinges (35) us-
ing two Phillips screws (37), spacer sleeves (38) and
hexagons nuts (39) each (see detail D).

3. Technical details
3.1 Description of the boiler
The CompactGas is a low-pollution, energy saving gas
boiler. The CompactGas has a horizontal combustion
chamber as primary heating area and a secondary heat-
ing area consisting of aluFer®composite tubing.
The CompactGas is designed for operation using natural
gas and liquid gas. The construction principles are dis-
played in the following diagram.

• Operated with natural gas H, λ = 1.15 with max. bruner output
• (CO2natural gas H = 10.5 %)
• A reduction of the boiler water temperature of -10 K
causes a reduction of the ue gas temperature of approx. 6-8 K.
• A modication of lambda λ of ± 0.09
causes a modication of the ue gas temperature of ± 8 K.
