Getting Started
Congratulations on your purchase of 400 / 800 dpi 6+1 buttons Hoverstop
Ergologic LASER Mouse. LASER mouse is the last technique of the mouse
industry. The most important feature for a LASER mouse is it can work on nearly
all kinds of surface and color, even on glass and wood. Another feature is the high
resolution.

Someexpertsbelievethatusinganymouseortrackballmaycauseseriousinjuryto
hands,wrists,arms,neck,orback.Ifyoufeelpain,numbness,orweaknessinthese
areas,seeaqualiedhealthprofessional.
To reduce the risk of injury, follow these precautions:
• Takefrequentbreaks,getupandwalkaroundseveraltimeseveryhour.
• Varyyourtasksthroughouttheday.
• Keepyourshouldersrelaxedwithyourelbowsatyourside.Positionyourkeyboard
andmousesoyoudonothavetoreachandmakesureyourarmsaresupported.
• Adjustyourchairandkeyboardsoyourupperarmsandwristsarestraight.
• Avoidrestingyourwristsonsharpedges.
About the Hoverstop Ergonomic system:
TheHoverstopsystemisdesignedtoreducetheamountofstaticmuscleloadduring
computerwork.Iftheinstructionsarefollowedupcorrectly,are ductioninstaticwork
loadmaybeexpected,withpossiblebenetssuchaslessfatigue,morecomfortand
possiblyareductionof(theriskof)computerrelatedhealthproblems.However,the
systemmaynotworkinthesamewayforeachindividual.
Some instructions and tips for better use of the Hoverstop mouse:
• Pleasereadtheinstructionscarefullyandfollowthemduringuse.
• Ifthefeedbackfunctionremindsyoutoremoveyourhand,takeyourhandoffthe
mousecompletelyandre styourhandonthetableinfrontofyou.Ifnecessar y,
createspaceonyourdeskbypushingthekeyboardforward.
• Donothoveryourhandabovethemouse.Thisincreasesthestaticmuscletension
andmaycause(anincreasein)complaints.
• Donot‘extend’yourhandbackwhilerestingyourwristorforearmonthetable.
Thismayincreasetheriskofcomputerrelatedhealthproblemsormayincrease
existing complaints.

The Hoverstop functions
Normal mouse functions:
YourHoverstopmousefunctionsjustlikeanyothermouse.IthasthenormalLeftand
Rightmousebutton,ascrollwheel,a3rdbuttonunderthescrollwheel,the4thand
5thbuttonontheleftsideofthemouse(willworkunderWXP/2000/Vistaasresp.Back
andForwardbuttons)anda6thbuttonontherightsideofthemouse(programmable
withtheoptionaldriver).
Ontopofthemouseinfrontofthescrollwheelisaround7thbuttonwhichhasadual
function:pressingitbrieywilltogglebetween400and800DPIlasersensorresolu-
tion.Thisallowsyoutomakethecursormovefasteroverthescreenwithsmallerhand
movements(800DPI)ortosetitslowerformoreaccuratework(400DPI).Pressingit
formorethan5secondswillallowyoutochangetheHoverstopfunctionparameters
(settings).
Hoverstop
TheHoverstopsystemisdesignedtowarnyouwhenyouhaveyourhandonorjust
overthemousewithoutactuallyusingit.Inthissituationyoustillhaveconsiderable
musclete nsion,whichaddstothetensionyouhaveduringactivemouseuseandthus
contributestotheriskofgettingcomputerrelatedhealthproblems.
Themouseise quippedwithasensorthatcandetecttheproximity(presence)of
ahandonorjustoverthemouse,evenwithouttouchingit.Ifthepresenceofthe
handisdetectedandnomouseinputisgenerated(click/scroll),awarningtimerwill
starttoruninsidethemouse.Ifthetimersurpassesthepresetthreshold(default12
seconds),afeedbacksignalisgeneratedtoremindyoutotakeyourhandfromthe
mouse and relax.
Feedback signals:
Therearetwot ypesoffeedbacksignal:tactile(vibration)andvisual(LED).Theuser
caneitheruseboth(default),oronlytheLED(vibrationOFF).Thevisualfeedbackcan
beturnedof fusingtheoptionalsoftwareprogram.
Anytimethemouseisclickedorscrolled,thewarningtimerwillberesettozero.
Duringactiveusethemousewillnevervibrate,onlywhenthepresetamountof“pas-
siveuse”occurs.Movingthemousewillinitselfnotresetthetimer.However,ifyou
movethemousecursoronthescreen,theamountoftimebeforethemousevibrates
isprolonged,toallowyoutonavigatemenuswherenoclickorscrollisneededto
navigate.Whenthemaximumamountofextratime(default:12seconds)duetocursor
movementhasbee n“usedup”,themousewillvibrate,evenifthecursorisstillbeing
moved around.
Shortlybeforethevibrationfeedbacksignalwilloccur(default:2seconds),theLED
underthescrollwheeland/orDPIbuttonwillslowlyblink,asanindicationthevibra-
tionwillsoontakeplace.Thisallowsyoutotakeyourhandoffthemousebeforethe
vibration.

Step 1. Plug the USB plug to Computer
USBisPlugandPlay;youcanplugorunplugthedevicenomatterifthecomputeris
onoroff.YoucanplugthemouseintoaPS2portbyusingthesuppliedPS2adapter.
However,thisusuallyre quiresrestartingyourcomputerwiththemouseplugge din
beforethemousewillworkproperly.
Step 2. Waiting for sof tware install
IfyoursystemisWindowsME/2000/XP/Vista,Windowswilldetectanewdevice
andinstallthestandarddriverautomatically.WiththeHoverstopmouse,severalUSB
‘devices’willbeinstalledbyWindows.Thismaytakeaminuteormoreforeach‘device’.
Ifthesystemdoesnotcompletetheinstallationofall‘devices’,replugthemouseinthe
sameUSBport.Alternatively,youcantryanotheravailableUSBport.Ifyoustillexperi-
enceproblems,tryrestartingthecomputerwiththemousealreadypluggedin.
Thestandardsoftwareonlysupportstandardmousefunctions(2buttonsandscroll
wheel)andwillnotsupporttheotherbuttonsofthemouse.
TheHoverstopfunctionsdonotrequireadriveroranyothersoftwarefornormal
operation.However,ifyouwouldliketousetheadvancefeaturesoftheHoverstop
mouse,youwillneedtoinstallasoftwareprogramthatcanbedownloadedfromthe
Hoverstopwebsite,www.hoverstop.com/support.( Windowsonly)
Afterafullandsuccessfulinstall,themousebuttons1&2,scrollwheelandscroll
wheelbuttonshouldworkproperly.Moreover,theLEDonthemouseshouldlightup
whenahandisplace donthemouse.Ifthehandisleftthereformorethan12seconds
withoutclicking,scrollingormovingthemouse,themouseshouldvibrate.Ifanyof
thesethingsdonotoccur,tryoneormoreofthefollowing:
• installingthemouseintoanother(USB)port,
• restartingyourcomputeror
• trythemouseonanothercomputertoverifyit’sproperfunction.
If the problem still cannot be solved, contact your vendor or write to info@hoverstop.com
explaining your situation (OS, type of computer) and the proble ms you experience.
TheroundbuttonjustinfrontofthescrollwheelistheDPIbutton.Youmayclickthe
dpiswitchtochangethedpifrom400to800andback.Thiswillmakethecursor
speedslowe rorfaster.
Software Installation Guide
Note:Nosoftwareordriverisneededfornormaloperationofthemouse!Thesoftware
givesyousomespecialfeaturessuchasprogrammingmousebuttonfunctions,set-
tingofHoverstopparametersandtheuseof5thand6thmousebutton.
Installing the Software
1. Downloadthesoftwarefromwww.hoverstop.com/supportandfollowinstall
instructions on the screen.
2. Thesetupprogramwillguideyoutonishtheinstallationstepbystep.
3. Afternishingtheprocess,select“Restart”torebootyoursystemandactivate
multimediahotkeysandwheelscrollingfunctions.

Altering Hoverstop settings using mouse buttons:
(all new s ettings will b e conrmed by a shor t burst of vibr ation)
• Disable/Enablevibrationfunction:pressandholdLeftandRightbuttonformore
than5seconds.
• Changethetimethemousevibratesfrom12to18seconds(‘Regular’to‘Light’):
Pressandholdthescrollwheelbuttonformorethan5seconds.Pressandhold
again to retur n to the original value.
• Addingtimeforcursormovement:toturnthisfunctionON/OFF,pressandhold
theRightmousebuttonandscrollwheelbuttontogetherforover5seconds.
Performingoneofthesameactionsaboveagainwill‘toggle’themousebacktothe
original value.
Using the Hoverstop button
PressingandholdingtheDPIbuttonjustinfrontofthescrollwheelformorethan5
secondswillturnvibrationOFF.PressingandholdingitagainwillturnvibrationON
again.Ashor tvibrationwillconrmeachtimeONorOFFbecomesactive.
Restore default parameter values:
PressingLeft,RightandScrollbuttonsandholdingdownformorethan10seconds
willrestorethemousetodefaultparametervalues.Ifyouwishtoresetthemouseto
factoryvalues(fullreset),rstrestoreparameters,thenunplug/replugthemouseinto
theUSBpor t.

What to do when the (vibration) feedback occurs?
Whenreceivingafeedbackwarning,takeyourhandfromthemousecompletelyand
putyourhandonthetableinfrontofyou,inarelaxedposition.Ifnecessar y,pushyour
keyboardfor wardonthetabletocreatespaceforyourhand.Wheneveryouneedto
usethemouseagain,justpickitupandresumework.Researchhasshownthisproc-
essdoesnotslowyoudownorreduceyourproductivity.
Ifyouwerereadytoclickorscrollrightatthetimethevibrationoccurs,goaheadand
clickorscrollandthevibrationwillstopimmediately,allowingyoutocontinuetowork
productively.Movingthemousewillnotstopthevibration.Ifyouleaveyourhandon
themouseduringthefullperiodofvibration(default:4seconds),thevibrationwillstop
andnotoccuragainforatleast1minute.
Youcouldofcoursechoosetoclickorscrolleverytimethemouseremindsyou,thus
ignoringthefeedback.O r,youcouldjustliftyourhandbrieyandputitbackstraight
away.Thevibrationwillstopineitherofthosecases.However,thiswillnotreducethe
amountoftimeyouhavestaticmuscletensionandthuswillnotgiveyouthebenet
ofrelaxation.Moreover,itwillincreasethenumberoftimesthemousegeneratesthe
vibrationwarningsignalsignicantly.
Compliance
TheHoverstopmousehasbeenequippedwitha“compliancewarningsystem”.Ifyou
stopthevibrationoftenbyclicking,scrollingorjustliftingyourhandbrieyandreplac-
ingit,themousewillrememberthis.Ifthisoccursoveracertainpercentageofallthe
timesthemousevibrates,theLEDcolorwillchangefromGreentoOrangeorevento
Red.ThistellsyouthatyouarenotusingtheHoverstopmouseasitwasintendedtobe
usedandyoushouldprobablytakeyourhandfromthemousemoreoften.IftheLED
colorisOrangeorRedmostofthetime,youareignoringtheHoverstopfeatures.No
possiblebenetsfromusingtheHoverstopmousecanbeexpected.Inthatcaseitis
recommendedyouseekadviceaboutyourmouseusefromaqualiedergonomistor
healthofcial,suchasaphysician.Thecompliancewarningsystemisresetever ytime
thepowertothemousehasbeeninterruptedoraf termorethan8hoursofinactivit y.
