Electrical
• Verifycorrect 120 VAC –1 amp or 24 VAC–4 amp power supply. Only use the type
specifiedfor this fireplace insert.Refer to the label on the EI Control Panel. All
electronic applicationsshouldutilizeaGFCI-protectedcircuit.
- If removing power cord plug and hard wiring within junction box, use only a
certified Electrician and must follow the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA
70 and all local codes.
24 VAC powered fireplace inserts:
- Fire Pit will not perform properly if power supply rating is
below 100W or wire size is too small.
- HPC highly recommends using our HPC/Sebco 24 VAC
100W power supply series (311-PS1, 311-PS3, 311-PS5
Models)
A Class II 24 VAC, 4 amp, 100 W transformer must be used to power the EI
Control Panel and be able to beswitched on and off from a remote location to
allow for easy accessoremergency.

It is recommended that material such as granite, marble
or other dense stone be kept away from heat and
especially flame due to risk of cracking. HPC is not
responsible for damage resulting from failure to follow
these recommendations.

Fuelline
• Fireplacemust have a gas shutoff on the outside of the exterior of the fireplaceto
allow foremergencyshut offandmaintenance. The gas shutoffshouldnotbe
usedto adjustflameheight.
• Theinstallerisresponsibleforusingthecorrectfuellinesizingthatisabletosupply
the stated maximum BTU for the product –refer to product label on the fire pit for
specifications.
• Performallleaktestswithleakdetectororleak reactant.
To prevent damage, isolate the appliance when
performing any pressure testing.
Burn Testing: It is the responsibility of the qualified
installer to test for gas leaks at all connections.
Gas Plumbing Connections: Use joint compound or tape
that is resistant to all gases. Apply joint compound only to
all male pipe fittings. DO NOT use on flex line flared
fittings. Be sure to tighten every joint securely.
Installation Steps:
1. Set fireplaceinsertin properlyconstructed fireplace enclosure,readSection 5 –
FireplaceEnclosure Requirements.
2. Positionfireplaceinsertfollowingsafetyrecommendationswithaccesstoallgas connections
for testing. Read Section 3 –Selecting the Fireplace Insert Location for more details.
3. Mount the EI Control Panel on the outside of the fireplace at least 24” off the ground and
in the vertical position, 4 screws (not included). See Figure 6.1.
4. Mount optional antenna extension cable –see page page15. Antenna must be mounted
in a location with line of sight.
5. Shut off gas supply to fireplace.
6. Connectproper120 VACor 24VACelectricalpowerfollowingalllocalcodes.
7. Connect EIControlPaneltomain gassupply. Warning:avoid sharp bends withflex line to
prevent whistling.
INSTALLATION
Wesuggestthatourproductsbeinstalledbyprofessionalsthatarelocally
licensedbytheauthorityhavingjurisdictioningaspiping.

8. Turnon gassupply,purgegas linesof airand perform leak testonallinlet
connections.Repairasneeded.
9. Initial Start-up after install:
Several “ON/OFF” cycles may be necessary to purge air in gas lines after
system installation.
1. Turn “ON” electrical power to fire pit via wall switch or breaker.
2. Turn “ON” gas to fire pit.
3. Remove Blowout Box lid to allow viewing of hot surface igniter.
4. Pointing remote control towards antenna, press and release the Power
ON/OFF button, Figure 6.2.
NOTE: Remote Control LED- 2 flashes indicates signal received.
5. Hot surface igniter should begin to glow within 10 seconds.
6. Pilot flame will eventually igniter. NOTE: This may take several cycles due to
air in the gas line. Unit will lockout after 15 cycles- to reset, please turn “OFF”
electrical power using wall switch or breaker then turn “ON”, repeat step 4.
7. Main burner will igniter.
8. Pointing remote control towards antenna- test High/Low function.
10. Oncefireplace insertis lit,perform leaktestonallgasconnections.Repairas needed.
11. Turnoff EI Control Panel and allow it to cool.
12. Applymediaas described in Section 7, Adding ApprovedMedia.Whenfilling
thepan with lava rock and/ordecorative glass, the instructions in Section7 must
befollowed.
13. TurnonEI Control Panelagainandperform leaktestwithmediacorrectly
installed.Ifgas leakisdetectedverifycorrectmediaapplicationandrepairas
needed.
14. Verifycorrectoperationandlighting.
15. Reviewsafetymanualwithend-user.Instructend-userthatfireplaceinsert,EIControl
Panelormediamust notbe changed or modified.
16. Leavemanualwithenduser.
17. Apply the Start Up and Shutdown decal next to EIControl Panel in an obvious
and highly visible position.

8 Operating the Fireplace Insert
• Beforeuse, besureto test all gas connections for leaks. Do not use fireplace insert
if thereis anyevidenceofleakinggas.Ifleakinggassuspected,turnoffthemain
gassupply andrepairimmediately.
• Donotuse the enclosureas aseating area.Windand gusty conditions willaffectthe
flamein anunpredictablemanner.If conditionsexistthat arenotsafeforpatrons,
turn off the fireplaceinsert.
• The hose should be inspected before each use of thefireplaceinsertand replaced
prior to useifthereisevidenceofexcessiveabrasionorwearorif thehoseis
damaged. Thereplacementhoseassemblyshallbethatspecifiedbythe
manufacturer.
• Donotusethe fireplace insertif anyparthasbeenunder water.Immediatelycalla
qualified service technician to inspect the unitand to replaceanypart of the control
system andanygas control that has been under water.
• Neveruseanymaterialthatisnon-porousandholdsmoisturesuchasgravel,
pebbles,riverrock,etc.Thismaterial,whenheatedwillcausethetrappedmoisture
toboilandfractureunexpectedly.Thismaterialis notsufficientlyporous toallow
heatedsteam toreadilyescapewhichcanbreak andcausepersonalinjuryor
damage.
• Solidfuels shallnot beburnedin thefireplace insert.
• Leaves,sticks, wood,paper,clothing,foodmaterial,shouldbekept awayfrom the
fireplaceinsert.Clothingorotherflammablematerialsshouldnotbehungfrom the
appliance orplacedon orneartheappliance. Keeptheappliance areafreefrom
gasoline,and otherflammablevaporsandliquids.
• Fireplaceinsertis not for cooking.
• Make surethatthereis no vegetation or other objects over the top or sides of
thefireplace insertthatcouldinterferewithsafeoperation.See clearances in
Section 3 – Selecting the Fireplace Insert Location.
• If lava rock is wet, allow the firepit to burn for 45 minutes prior to coming within
15 feet of the fireplace insert.
• Whentheunitisnotin operation,turn offgasvalve.

Start-up
InitialStart-up:Several“ON/OFF” cyclesmay
benecessarytopurgeairingaslinesaftersystem
installation. EIControlPanelwilllockoutafter 15attemptsto
light pilot,pleasepowerOFF thenONtorestart.
Sequence of Operation:
1. Theigniterwillbepowered(glowred)forfiveseconds
beforepilotvalveopens.
2. The igniter will only bepoweredtheinitial 15secondsof the 30-secondpilot cycle.
Thissequencewillrepeatupto15times(approximately15minutes)beforegoing
into lockout. To reset, turn “OFF” power then back “ON” again.
3. Pilotflame willignite andwarm thermocouple;it maytake30 seconds attimesfor
thermocouple to get hot. If thermocouple is not hot in 60 seconds, system will shut
down. If this occurs, go back to Step 1.
4. Oncethermocoupleishot,mainvalvewillopenallowingmainburnertoignite.
5. Ifpilot flameis blownout at any time, system willshut down, andthen automatically
restart(Step1).
EIFirePitShutdown
1. Turn“OFF” fireplace insert usingremote or
app.

1. STOP! Read the safety information on “What
to Do If Smell Gas” (Pg. 1).
2. Confirm thereis nodebris in thefireplace
insert(as mentionedinwarnings)
includingwater.
3. Turn“ON” electrical power and gas to EI Control
Panel.
4. Using remote or app to turn “ON” EI Control
Panel - this may takeseveralcyclestopurge
anyair.
5. Toreset after lockout, power unit down, wait 5
minutes,thenrestart.

9 Operating the Fireplace Insert
The following sections explain operation of:
•Remote control B. Smartphone control
A. HPC Remote Control –After turning ON the gas to fireplace insert, operate as
follows:
1. Normal Remote Operation –Figure 8.1
a. PowerON/OFF–2Flash
b. High–4Flash
c. Low–3Flash
d. PoorCommunication–10Flash(Movecloserorchangepositions.)
e. RemoteResponse Time–Whennotinuseformorethan30seconds, the
remotewillgointo asleep mode to save battery life. If remoteis insleep mode it
may take a few extra seconds for a command to be executed.
2. Remote sync –Theremoteis alreadysyncedtothe EI Control Panel.Figure8.2
a. If you need to sync the remote to afire place insert:
1. Ensurepoweris OFFtofireplace insert.
2. DepresstheLOWandOFFbuttonsimultaneouslyandholduntilthe remote
flashesrapidly(8to10seconds)
3. ReleasetheLOWandOFFbuttons
4. Apply power to the fire pit within 10 seconds –Fire pit will accept a new
remotefor the first 60 minutes it is on.
5. Allow the remote to finish flashing which could take up to 30 seconds
6. Yourremoteshould operate thefireplace insert
NOTE: If steps 5 or6 fail, pleaserepeatSteps 1 through7. Also confirm antenna is in a location to receive signal from
remote.
