IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
Here are some basic safety precautions that you should carefully follow as you
use your new Courant Slow Cooker. Read all instructions carefully! Courant
is not responsible for damage or injuries caused by improper use of the appli-
ance.
• READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS, AS THEY MAY NOT ALL BE OBVIOUS
• Remove any packaging material before using this appliance.
• Any use of this product or its accessories which is not recommended by
manufacturer may cause injury to persons or damage to the appliance.
• Never touch the outer enclosure of the slow cooker during its operation or
before it cools. Use the handles or knobs only. Use oven gloves or a cloth
when removing the lid, pot or handling any contents.
• Do not place near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Extreme caution must be used when moving the ceramic pot if it contains
hot food or hot liquids.
• When warm or hot, always place the ceramic pot on a heatproof mat or
surface if it is not inside the cooker.
• If serving directly from the ceramic pot, use a heatproof mat or surface and
make sure others know that the pot is too hot to touch.
• NEVER place any food or liquids directly into the base unit. Always cook in
the ceramic pot. Avoid spilling food or liquid into the base unit.
• NEVER allow a child to use this appliance. Keep the appliance out of chil-
drens' reach at all times.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this
appliance.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities that may lead to improper
use or injury from operating the appliance.
• DO NOT switch on the slow cooker if the ceramic pot is empty.
• Always use the Slow Cooker on a dry, flat, level surface. Do not switch on
the slow cooker if it is not upright and level. Do not hang the power cord
over the edge of a table or counter.
• Ensure that the power cord does not touch any hot surfaces of the appli-
ance.
• The appliance must always be grounded.
• Remove the plug from the wall outlet before cleaning and when not in use.
Allow the appliance to cool down completely before removing or attaching
components, or before cleaning.
• Discontinue any operation of the appliance if the cord or plug are dam-
aged.

• Discontinue any operation of the appliance if it malfunctions or is dropped
or damaged in any manner. Take the appliance to the nearest authorized
service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
• If there is loss of power, especially for an unknown period of time, any food
inside the pot may be spoiled and unsafe to cook or eat.
• The WARM setting is used only to keep food warm, not to cook food.
• To disconnect the appliance, turn the knob(s) to OFF and then remove the
plug from the wall outlet.
• This appliance has a polarized plug, meaning that one blade on the plug
is wider than the other. To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is
intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit
fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a quali-
fied electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
• To protect against electric shock, do not immerse or allow the cord, plugs
or appliance main unit to come in contact with water or any other liquid.
• To avoid hazards from overflow or spilling, do not overfill the pot with
food. When exceeding 3/4 capacity of the pot, this can occur.
• To avoid cracking or leakage from the pot, do not place frozen foods in the
cooker.
• Never submerge the entire slow cooker into water or any other liquid, oth-
erwise it will damage the slow cooker.
• The glass lid and ceramic pot are fragile. Handle them with care.
• Never leave uncooked food at room temperature in the slow cooker. Do
not put the ceramic pot or glass lid in an oven, stove top, freezer, micro-
wave or on a gas/electrical hob.
• Ensure at least 6 inches of clearance on the top and all sides of the unit
while it is in operation.
• Never put the glass lid in the refrigerator, otherwise it may crack.
• When taking the ceramic pot taken out of the refrigerator, do not cook in
it until it has sat for at least 40min to defrost, otherwise it may crack when
heated.
• DO NOT use this appliance if the ceramic pot or glass lid if it is cracked or
chipped.
• Do not put the ceramic pot or glass lid in an oven, stove top, freezer, micro-
wave or on a gas/electrical hob.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this quality Courant Stainless Steel Manual Slow
Cooker!
Slow cooking is oen considered the best way to prepare a nutritious hot meal
with minimal preparation and eort. Traditionally, slow cooking has centered
on soups and casseroles, but with this ceramic pot you can cook most mod-
ern meals and dishes. This method of cooking is especially ideal for preparing
tougher cuts of meat, giving them the long, gentle simmering that ensures that
they become tender and full of flavor. This convenient pot can also be taken
straight to the table for serving.
Even if you've used a slow cooker before, please read and follow these operat-
ing instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before using the slow cooker for the first time
• Carefully unpack the Slow Cooker. Remove all labels and packaging materials.
• Wash the ceramic pot and glass lid in hot soapy water with a sponge or a dish-
cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
• When the appliance is completely dry, place the base unit on a dry, stable, level,
heat resistant surface, away from any surface edges.
• Set the control knob(s) to the OFF position before plugging the unit into a power
source. Plug the unit into a 120-volt 60hz AC grounded outlet only.
During initial use, you may notice a slight odor due to the burning o of manufactur-
ing residues. This is completely normal and will disappear aer using it a number of
times.
Using your slow cooker
1. Place food and other ingredients into the ceramic pot
2. Place the pot into the base unit. The slow cooker pot should be at least half full
for best results. If you need to pre-cook or brown foods prior to slow cooking,
this must be done in a pan. Do not try to brown or pre-cook food in the slow
cooker.
3. Cover with the glass lid.
4. Set the knob to high or low, depending on the setting called for by your recipe.
Many meat and vegetable recipes require app. 8-10 hours on low and 4-6 hours on
high. Follow the instructions for your particular recipe
5. While cooking: Don’t remove the lid while cooking unless necessary, as heat will
escape. Each time the lid is removed, you may need to add an additional 10 min-
utes to the cooking time.
6. Aer cooking is complete, turn the knob(s) to OFF and unplug the slow cooker.
Remove the hot ceramic pot using oven gloves. Always make sure that the pot is
placed on a heat resistant surface when it is hot or warm. As an option, you may
wish to switch the control knob to WARM to keep the food warm for later serving.
It is not recommended to use the warm setting for more than 3-4 hours. Do not
forget to turn the cooker o aer warming is complete.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE BASE UNIT OR POT AFTER COOKING, AS
IT REMAINS HOT.

ADDITIONAL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS
Tips for slow cooking
• Be sure to search the internet for slow cooking books, articles and recipes so that
you can get the most fun and value out your slow cooker!
• Slow cooking retains moisture. If you wish to reduce moisture in the cooker, re-
move the lid after cooking, turn the control to high and simmer for 30 to 45 min-
utes.
• If cooking soups, leave a few inches of space between the top of the cook pot and
the food surface to allow simmering.
• Many recipes demand all-day cooking. If you do not have time to prepare food in
the morning, prepare it the night before and store it in a covered container in the
refrigerator. Transfer the food to the ceramic pot and add liquid or gravy.
• Some ingredients are not suitable for slow cooking. Pasta, seafood, milk, and
cream should be added towards the end of the cooking time. Many factors will af-
fect how quickly a recipe will cook. Water, fat content, density, initial temperature
and the amount/volume of food will all affect cooking times.
• Food cut into small pieces will cook more quickly. A degree of "trial and error"
may be required to fully optimize the potential of your slow cooker.
• Root vegetables usually take longer to cook than meat. So, try and arrange vegeta-
bles in the lower half of the pot.
• After the food is cooked, switch the cooker off and leave the lid attached. There
will be enough heat in the ceramic pot to keep it warm for 30 minutes. If it needs
to be warm for longer, turn the knob to the WARM setting.
• Food may be covered with a liquid, gravy or sauce. In a separate pan or jug, pre-
pare your liquid, gravy or sauce and completely cover the food in the ceramic pot.
• Before adding it to the ceramic pot, pre-browning meat and onions in a pan will-
seal in the juices and also reduce the fat content. This can improve the flavor but
is not necessary if time is limited.
• When cooking joints of ham, poultry or other meats, the size and shape of the
joint is important. Try to keep the joint in the lower 2/3 of the pot and submerge it
in liquid. If necessary, cut it into two pieces.
• Authentic stoneware is fired at high temperatures. Therefore, the ceramic pot may
have minor surface blemishes and the glass lid may rock slightly due to these
imperfections. Low heat cooking does not produce a lot of steam, so there will be
little heat loss. Due to normal wear and tear through the products life, the outer
surface may change in appearance, but should not be used if broken or cracked.
• Do not use the slow cooker to reheat food.
• Do not subject the ceramic pot to sudden changes in temperature. Adding cold
water to a very hot pot may cause it to crack.

• There is an area on the base of the ceramic pot that has to remain unglazed for
manufacturing purposes. This unglazed area is porous and will soak up water
whenimmersed in it. This should be avoided. Never place the ceramic pot on a
surface that is prone to scratching.
• Do not switch on the cooker when the ceramic pot is empty or out of its base.
• Read the "Important Safeguards" section before using this appliance.
• Do not allow the ceramic pot to stand in water for a long time. You can leave water
in the pot to soak the bowl, however.
Suitable foods for slow cooking & preparation
Most foods are suited to slow cooking methods. However, there are a few guidelines
that need to be followed:
• Cut root vegetables into small, even pieces, as they take longer to cook than meat.
Veggies should be gently sautéed for 2-3 minutes before slow cooking. Ensure that
root vegetables are always placed at the bottom of the pot and immersed in the
cooking liquid.
• The slow cooking method does not allow fat to evaporate. Trim all excess fat from
meat before cooking.
• If adapting an existing recipe from conventional cooking, you may need to cut
down on the amount of liquid used. Liquid will not evaporate from the slow cook-
er to the same extent as with conventional cooking.
• Uncooked red beans must be soaked and boiled for at least 10 minutes to remove
toxins before using them in the cooker.

CARE, CLEANING, AND MAINTENANCE
Other than the cleaning mentioned in this manual, no other servicing or maintenance
of this appliance is required. Repairs, if necessary, must be performed by an autho-
rized service center. For best results, clean your slow cooker after each use to prevent
a buildup of foods and/or residue.
IMPORTANT:Before cleaning or storing the unit, remove the plug from the power
outlet and allow the unit to cool completely.
The ceramic/stoneware pot is dishwasher safe or can also be cleaned with warm,
soapy water. Be sure to remove any foods that have been cooked onto the bottom of
the pot. You may wash both the lid and the ceramic pot in the dishwasher, but avoid
placing them together in the dishwasher at the same time, as they may crack.
The exterior of the slow cooker can be wiped with a damp cloth and dried. DO NOT
use any harsh or abrasive cleaners or scouring pads to clean any part of the slow
cooker, as this will damage the surface. Dry all parts thoroughly before using the cook-
er again or storing it.
Storage
Make sure unit is unplugged and fully cooled. Never wrap the cord tightly around
appliance. Do not place any stress on the cord where it attaches the unit, as this could
cause the cord to fray and break, which is a safety hazard. Store the slow cooker in its
box or stand the unit upright for easy and compact storage. Do not place heavy items
on top of the appliance that could crush or damage it.
IMPORTANT: NEVER IMMERSE THE SLOW COOKER BASE UNIT IN WATER. THIS IS
THE PART OF THE APPLIANCE THAT HAS THE PLUG AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPO-
NENTS THAT SHOULD NEVER COME IN CONTACT WITH WATER

Courant™ warrants this product against defects in materi-
al and workmanship to the original purchaser as specified
below. Please be sure that the product is registered online
within fourteen (14) days of purchase.
PARTS – if the product is determined to have a
manufacturing defect, within a period of one (1)
year from the date of the original purchase, Cou-
rant™ will repair or replace the product parts at no
charge (for parts) to consumers in the U.S.A. and
Canada.
LABOR – if the product is determined to have a
manufacturing defect, within a period of ninety
(90) Days from the date of the original purchase,
Courant™ will repair or replace the product at no
charge to consumers in the U.S.A. and Canada. Af-
ter ninety (90) days, it will be the responsibility of
the consumer.
Shipping costs to and from our warranty service center are
the sole responsibility of the consumer.
To obtain warranty service by an authorized Courant™
service center, please email us at: service@courantusa.
com to obtain a Repair and Maintenance Authorization
(RMA) number and to locate the Warranty Service Center
nearest you. Once authorized, you must mail the product
to the authorized Courant™ service center in its original
product packaging materials or equivalent, to prevent
damage while in transit.
Further, should Courant™ determine that the product is
outside of the Warranty terms, Courant™ will return the
product to sender at sender’s expense without being re-
paired or replaced, unless authorized by the consumer
to service the out-of-warranty product at consumer’s ex-
pense. All handling or restocking charges for returns and/
or replacements shall be non-refundable.
Courant™ specifically excludes from this warranty any
non-electric/mechanical attachments, accessories, and
disposable parts including, but not limited to, outside
case, connecting cables, batteries, and AC adapters.
Courant™ reserves the right to repair or replace defective
products with the same, equivalent, or newer models.
We reserve the right to either repair or replace product at
our discretion. Replacement may be either new or refur-
bished and while every endeavor will be made to ensure
it is the same model, if same model is not available, it will
be replaced with a model of equal or higher specification.
Normal “Wear and Tear” is not covered by this, or any oth-
er, warranty. Further, Courant™ hereby reserves the right
to determine “Wear and Tear” on any and all products.
Tampering or opening the product casing or shell will void
this warranty in its entirety.
In addition, this warranty does not apply if the product
has been damaged by accident, abuse, misuse, or mis-
application; has been altered or modified without the
written permission of Courant™; has been serviced by a
non-authorized repair center of Courant™; has not been
properly maintained or operated according to the opera-
tion manual; has been used for commercial, non-house-
hold purposes; has been cosmetically damaged; was not
imported by Courant™; was not manufactured according
to specification of the United States market; was damaged
due to improper installation or neglect by the consumer;
was damaged due to improper packaging in shipment to
the Warranty Service Center; was damaged due to natural
disasters; or if the serial number for the product has been
removed or defaced.
ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WAR-
RANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO
ONE (1) YEAR PARTS AND NINETY (90) DAYS LABOR FROM
THE DATE OF THE ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASE OF THIS
PRODUCT.

• Para evitar grietas o fugas de la vasija, no coloque alimentos congelados en la olla.
• Nunca sumerja toda la olla de cocción lenta en agua o cualquier otro líquido, de
lo contrario dañará la olla de cocción lenta.
• La tapa de cristal y la vasija de cerámica son frágiles. Manéjelos con cuidado.
• Nunca deje alimentos crudos a temperatura ambiente en la olla de cocción lenta.
No coloque la vasija de cerámica o la tapa de vidrio en el horno, la estufa, el con-
gelador, el microondas o en una cocina eléctrica o de gas.
• Asegúrese de que haya al menos 6 pulgadas de espacio en la parte superior y

A menudo, se considera que la mejor forma de preparar alimentos deliciosos y nutritivos
con mínima preparación y esfuerzo, es la cocción lenta. Tradicionalmente, la cocción
lenta se ha enfocado en sopas y cacerolas, pero con esta vasija de cerámica puede prepa-
rar los alimentos y platillos más modernos. Este método de cocción es especialmente
ideal para preparar cortes de carne más ásperos, brindándoles un cocimiento lento largo
y suave que garantiza que se vuelvan tiernos y llenos de sabor. Esta conveniente olla tam-
bién puede llevarse directamente a la mesa para servir.

INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN
Antes de usar su olla de cocción lenta por primera vez
• Desempaque con cuidado su Olla de Cocción. Retire todas las etiquetas y materi-
ales de empaque.
• Lave la vasija de cerámica y tapa de vidrio en agua tibia jabonosa con una esponja
o un paño para lavar.
• Cuando el electrodoméstico esté completamente seco coloque la unidad base en
una superficie seca estable, nivelada y resistente al calor, lejos de cualquier orilla.
• Ajuste la perilla(s) de control a la posición OFF antes de conectar la unidad a una
fuente de energía. Enchufe únicamente la unidad en un tomacorrientes aterrizado
Durante el uso inicial, notará un ligero olor debido a que se están quemando los resid-
uos de la fabricación. Esto es completamente normal después de usarla varias veces.
Usando su olla de cocción lenta
1. Coloque los alimentos y otros ingredientes en la vasija de cerámica
2. Coloque la vasija en la unidad base. Para mejores resultados, la olla de
cocción lenta debe quedar llena al menos a la mitad. Si necesita pre cocer
o dorar los alimentos antes de la cocción lenta hágalo a parte en una sar-
tén. No trate de dorar o pre cocer en la olla de cocción lenta.
3. Cubra con la tapa de vidrio.
4. Ajuste la perilla a High (Alto) o Low (Bajo), dependiendo de las instruc-
ciones de su receta. Muchas recetas de carne y verdura requieren aproxi-
madamente de 8-10 horas de cocción en Low y de 4-6 horas de cocción en
High. Siga las instrucciones para su receta en particular.
5. Al cocinar: La tapa no tiene un sellado total. No la retire al cocinar a
menos que sea necesario, ya que escapará el calor. Cada vez que retira la
tapa necesita agregar 10 minutos más al tiempo de cocción.
6. Después de haber terminado la cocción, gire la perilla(s) a la posición OFF
y desconecte la olla de cocción lenta. Retire la vasija de cerámica caliente
usando guantes. Siempre asegúrese de que la vasija se coloca sobre una
superficie resistente al calor cuando está caliente o tibia. Como opción,
puede colocar la perilla en la posición WARM para mantener la comida
caliente para servirla más tarde. No se recomienda tenerla en WARM más
de 3-4 horas. No se le olvide apagar la olla cuando termine de calentar.
