Introduction
The Trane®Pivot™Smart Thermostat is a color touch-screen,
programmable control that is equipped with remote access This controller
has an intuitive interface for easy operation
Pivot Capa ilities
• Monitor and control the HVAC system using an Internet-enabled Smart
Phone from any remote location
• Customize display layout
• Receive text and e-mail notification that inform the user of occurrence
happening in the building
• Receive automatic software updates
This user guide provides guidance in configuring and connecting the Pivot
Smart thermostat

safety and the proper operation of this machine depend upon the strict
observance of these precautions
The three types of advisories are defined as follows:

Technicians, in order to protect themselves from potential electrical,
mechanical, and chemical hazards, MUST follow precautions in this manual
and on the tags, stickers, and labels, as well as the instructions below:
• Before installing/servicing this unit, technicians MUST put on all PPE
required for the work being undertaken (Examples; cut resistant
gloves/sleeves, butyl gloves, safety glasses, hard hat/bump cap, fall
protection, electrical PPE and arc flash clothing) ALWAYS refer to
appropriate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/Safety Data Sheets
(SDS) and OSHA guidelines for proper PPE
• When working with or around hazardous chemicals, ALWAYS refer to
the appropriate MSDS/SDS and OSHA/GHS (Global Harmonized
System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) guidelines for
information on allowable personal exposure levels, proper
respiratory protection and handling instructions

Requirements
• High-speed connection to the Internet (WIFi or Ethernet)
• Wireless network with name (and password if required) and security type
• Mobile device (IOS or Android)
Initial Setup
Initial thermostat setup is performed through the user setup wizard
(MMeennuu>>SSeettttiinnggss>>UUsseerr SSeettuupp WWiizzaarrdd)
Below is a table that lists the order the user setup wizard will follow
Name Description
Screen Settings Adjust screen brightness, backlight, screen saver, and color theme.
Screen Layout
Choose up to 2 Apps for display on the Home screen. To deselect an
item, tap highlighted item. If no items are selected, the Home screen
will adjust layout for larger temperature display.
Setpoints
Adjust cooling and heating setpoints, override expiration, and
override degree limit. See “Scheduled Setpoints ,” p. 15 for more
information.
Schedule
Settings
Enable or disable schedules. Disable means the occupant manually
touch Building icon to switch between occupied mode and
unoccupied mode. To later change Enable/Disable schedule, navigate
from Home screen Menu/Schedules. See “,” for more information.
Schedules Edit schedule. if schedule is disabled, then this step is skipped.
Optimal Start/
Stop
Enable or disable Optimal start and stop and set the time. If schedule
is disabled, then this step is skipped.
Network Select your wireless network and enter your user name and/or
password. If your wireless network is available but not shown in the
list, select Hidden Network, and manually enter the networks's name
(SSID) and security type.
Note: Wireless setup is not required when Pivot thermostat is hard
wired to the network using an Ethernet cable.
Registration Register the Pivot thermostat to enable remote access.
if you do not already have a Pivot App, create an account first. See
“Creating an Account with Trane Pivot Mobile App,” p. 7.
Follow the instructions on the screen and the Trane Pivot App to
register the thermostat. See the instructions in “Adding a Thermostat
to the Account,” p. 7 for more information.
Weather Set your zip code for local weather.

Creating an Account with Trane Pivot Mo ile
App
The Trane Pivot Mobile App will be used to create an account, add
thermostats and add new users to the account An account will allow you to
view:
•DDaasshhbbooaarrdd which includes Schedules, Setpoints, and Run Time History
•EEvveennttss hhiissttoorryy; history listing can be filtered
•AAlleerrttss; to define and customize who should receive TEXT or EMAIL
system alerts, and which alerts each user should receive
Creating a Trane Pivot Account
1 To create a Trane Pivot account, first go to the App Store for IOS or
Google Play Store for Android and download the Trane Pivot mobile app
to your smart phone
2 Tap the SSiiggnn UUpp NNooww button in the App, and fill out all the information
3 Enter a 4-digit PIN (You will have the option of 4, 6, 8, or 10 digits)
4 You will land on the MMyy BBuuiillddiinngg screen which is the dashboard
5 This account will be considered the account owner
Adding a Thermostat to the Account
1 Use the Trane Pivot app on your smart phone
2 On the MMyy BBuuiillddiinngg screen, tap on the menu drop down icon, then tap
CCoonnnneecctt NNeeww DDeevviiccee
3 The EEnnrroollll PPiivvoott TThheerrmmoossttaatt screen appears Tap the CCoonnttiinnuuee button
This generates a 5-digit code and starts a 10-minute timer
4 On the Pivot Thermostat, go to MMeennuu >> PPiivvoott RReeggiissttrraattiioonn and enter the
5-digit code and tap NNeexxtt
5 The Pivot thermostat will be enrolled/registered in the account in about a
minute
6 Repeat the process for any additional thermostats

Menu Screen
Feature Description
Settings Accesses all user setting screens. Refer to the following, Settings screen.
Schedules View or edit schedules. Tap to Enable/Disable scheduling.
Schedule
Setpoints
Change occupied and unoccupied temperature setpoints, and override
limits.
Occupancy
Override Change override duration.
System Info Allows system information Display Alerts, Notifications, and other
information about the thermostat.
Pivot
Registration Register or unregister thermostat from Pivot.
Humidity Set target humidity level
Ventilate Set ventilation options. Only available when ventilation is enabled through
installer Setup.
Service Allows contractor to make changes to Thermostat Installer Setup
Screens and diagnostics.
Home Returns user to the Home screen.
Back Returns user to the previous screen.

Settings Screen
Feature Description
Thermostat Set temperature scale, setpoint deadband, indoor temperature
sensor calibration, outdoor temperature sensor calibration.
Screen • Display: adjust screen display brightness, backlight, screen
saver, color themes.
• Screen Layout (choose 2 apps for display)
• Clean Screen. Disables screen for 30 seconds to allow for
cleaning.
• Access Restrictions (screen lock when inactive 1 minute).
See “Access Restriction,” p. 20.
Date and time Manually sets the date, time, and time zone when not connected
to a Pivot account.
Network Displays network information and allows network setup.
Optimal Start/Stop Enable/disable energy savings options.
Optimal start will adjust the set point prior to schedule
occupancy based history and current outdoor temperature in
order to meet set point by the start of the scheduled occupancy.
The optimal start time is the earliest the system is allowed to
change.
Optimal stop allows the zone to drift up to two degrees from set
point prior to the end of a schedule occupancy. The earliest
allowed for the drift is the Optimal Stop Time.

Feature Description
Weather Setup local weather information when registered with Pivot.
Mobile app.
SW Upgrades Tap to manually upgrade to current software revision. Software
upgrades occur automatically if connected to Pivot. Mobile app.
Note: Manual upgrades require an internet connection and a
USB flash drive.
Reminders Displays any service required to system maintenance or
reminders.
User Setup Wizard Used to setup all user settings after initial installation.
Reboot Reboot unit.
Home Returns user to the Home screen.
Back Returns user to the previous screen.

Schedules
Schedules must be enabled for this screen to be shown
Press MMeennuu SScchheedduulleess to view or edit the schedule If schedule is disabled,
then no schedule will be displayed
Feature Description
Current Day Displays each day of the week.
Start and Stop time
adjust
Tap UP or DOWN arrows to adjust the schedule start and stop time
Add Tap to add a new period into the system.
Delete Tap to delete a period from the system.
Enable/Disable
Schedule
Tap the button to either enable or disable schedules. When the
schedule is disabled, press the Building icon on the Home screen
to change back and forth from using the occupied set points and
unoccupied set points. Thermostat will not follow the schedule.

1 View the existing schedule Tap on the preferred period
2 Tap on the UUPP or DDOOWWNN arrows to adjust the start and stop times (The
top set of arrows adjusts the Start time, while the bottom set of arrows
adjusts the Stop time)
3 Continue to make adjustments to the other schedule periods, if
necessary
4 Tap SSaavvee to save changes and exit Tap CCaanncceell to discard any changes
Deleting Periods
1 Access the SScchheedduullee SSccrreeeenn and tap DDeelleettee on the bottom
2 Tap the TTrraasshh icon of the desired period(s) to delete
3 Tap SSaavvee to delete the selected schedule or CCaanncceell to return to the
schedule screen without deleting

Adding Schedule Periods
1 Access the SScchheedduullee SSccrreeeenn and tap AAdddd
2 On the AAdddd screen, tap the pplluuss ssiiggnn to add a new schedule period
3 On the right side of the screen, tap UUPP or DDOOWWNN to select start and stop
times
4 Tap SSaavvee to save this new schedule or CCaanncceell to return to the schedule
screen without saving

This screen is used to set what temperatures the thermostat will control,
based on the occupancy schedule

Occupancy Override
If schedule is disabled
• Then this feature does not appear In this situation, simply press the
Unoccupied House to change to occupied set point The thermostat will
continue to use occupied setpoint until the house symbol is pressed
again
When schedule is enabled
• During unoccupied periods, the occupied set point are used and set point
adjustment is not allowed To get heating or cooling after hours, Time
Occupancy Override is used

Pushing the SSTTAARRTT button begins the timed override The thermostat will
change to occupied mode and the temperature setpoints will change to the

After the timer counts down, the thermostat reverts to unoccupied and the
temperature setpoints also revert to unoccupied
The timed occupancy override can be canceled by pressing the XX button on
the left side of the home screen
The 2-hour default can be changed by going to HHOOMMEE >> MMEENNUU >>
OOCCCCUUPPAANNCCYY OOVVEERRRRIIDDEE >> DDUURRAATTIIOONN LLIIMMIITT Select from 2 to 10 hours

Temporary Adjustment of
Temperature
NNoottee:: Temperature adjustments (overrides) are only available anytime the
thermostat is occupied or anytime the schedule is disabled.
This describes how to temporarily override the temperature setpoint when in
occupied mode

To configure how long a temperature set point adjustment (Temperature
override) lasts:

The thermostat can be configured to either expire changed by

To configure the limits on temperature set point adjustment (Temperature
override), use the following:

Customize Home Screen
Access Restriction
Access to change settings in the thermostat can be restricted to 4 different
levels: None, Low, Medium, or High
To set the restrictions:
1 Go to HHOOMMEE >> MMEENNUU >> SSEETTTTIINNGGSS >> SSCCRREEEENN >> AACCCCEESSSS
RREESSTTRRIICCTTIIOONNSS
2 Tap the desired restriction level, then hit AAPPPPLLYY
The restriction will take effect in about 1 minute
•NNOONNEE gives access to all features in MMEENNUU and SSEETTTTIINNGGSS screens,
allowing the user to change everything
•LLOOWW disables access to the MMEENNUU screen, but allows SSYYSSTTEEMM and
FFAANN MMOODDEE changes as well as temperature setpoint adjustment and
timed overrides
•MMEEDDIIUUMM disables access to the MMEENNUU screen and SSYYSSTTEEMM and
FFAANN modes, but allows temperature setpoint adjustment and timed
overrides
•HHIIGGHH only allows users to start a timed override when unoccupied or
change temperature setpoints on HHOOMMEE screen when occupied
IImmppoorrttaanntt:: If the thermostat is set to low, medium, or high access
restriction, you can ddiissaabbllee tthhee rreessttrriiccttiioonn bbyy pprreessssiinngg aanndd
hhoollddiinngg tthhee EENNUU bbuuttttoonn ffoorr 55 sseeccoonnddss.. The EENNUU
screen will open up allowing you to navigate to the
RREESSTTRRIICCTTIIOONNSS screen and change the restriction level.
Layout
You can add or subtract special apps from the HHoommee screen to match what
your employees need for operating the system To keep things simple for
your employees, keep the number of apps to a minimum
To add or delete apps from on the display:
1 Select HHoommee>>MMeennuu>>SSeettttiinnggss>>SSccrreeeenn>>LLaayyoouutt
2 Tap an app to Enable or Disable the app on the HHoommee screen You can
have 0, 1 or 2 apps displayed on the HHoommee screen

conditions
