Troubleshooting
1 I can’t focus my lens at infinity.
Try mounting your lens one step back, the distance needed to focus
at infinity varies across dierent lens brands.
2 My tripod screw is too long and is catching when I extend
the focus.
Either switch to a shorter length tripod screw or you could add a
washer to your existing one to reduce the length.
3 How do I know when my camera is zeroed?
Check that the rear standard is at 90°, and the front standard is lined
up with the metal supports on either side. There are two notches on
the base of the front standard to help align the front with the base.
You can also use the spirit levels located on both the front and rear.
4 Can I use other lens board brands?
The Intrepid 5x7 is designed to work with specially sized lens boards
(108mm x 108mm), so you will need to mount your lenses to our 5x7
lens boards.
5 The focus feels loose / unstable.
Located in front of the focus wheel is a black retaining ring with a
small grub screw. If your focus feels loose you may need to tighten
this screw. This can be done with a 2mm Allen / Hex key.
6 How do I change from portrait to landscape orientation?
The rear standard is held in place by magnets, to change between
portrait and landscape simply undo the two top clips and gently pull
the back towards you.
7 Can I use Graflok compatible accessories on the camera?
The Intrepid 5x7 doesn’t have a Graflok back, but pairing it with the
5x7 to 4x5 reducing back will allow you to use all Graflok accessories
such as roll film and instant film backs and the Intrepid 4x5 Enlarger.
8 Should I fit a Fresnel screen to my Intrepid 5x7?
Using a Fresnel screen will brighten your ground glass and help with
focusing and framing, particularly in lower light and with wide angle
lenses. On the Intrepid you mount the Fresnel on the outside of the
glass. We have a step by step video on how to do this on our website.
9 Help! I broke my groundglass.
Carefully remove any glass from the camera / bellows. We sell
replacement ground glass on our website, once you receive it
you just need to unscrew the two ground glass clips (with a PH00
screwdriver), fit the new glass and secure the clips back in place.
