Thank you for purchasing the Ivation digital microscope. This User Guide is intended
to provide you with guidelines to ensure that operation of this product is safe and
does not pose risk to the user. Any use that does not conform to the guidelines
described in this User Guide may void the limited warranty.
Please read all directions before using the product and retain this guide for reference.
This product is intended for household use only.
This product is covered by a limited one-year warranty. Coverage is subject to limits
and exclusions. See warranty for details.
Safety Precautions
• Before using the microscope, please read and make sure you understand the
safety precautions described herein. Always make sure that the microscope is
operated correctly.
• Never operate the unit where operation of such devices is restricted. Improper
use creates the risk of serious accidents.
• Do not try to open the housing or attempt to modify the microscope in any way.
Maintenance and repairs should be performed only by authorized service providers.
• Keep the product away from water and other liquids. Do not handle the product
with wet hands. Never use the product in the rain or snow. Moisture creates the
danger of fire and electric shock.
• Use your microscope within the 23° to 120°F (-5° to 50° C) temperature range. Try
to limit sudden environmental temperature changes as this may create moisture in
the microscope housing.
• If you notice smoke or odors coming from the microscope, turn the power off
immediately. Take the product to an authorized service center for repair. Never
attempt to repair the product yourself.
• The microscope may become slightly warm during use. This does not indicate
a malfunction.
• Clean the exterior of the product by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use
chemical cleaners.
• Store the unit in a clean, dry place.

Using the Microscope
Installing the Battery
1. Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit.
2. Insert the lithium battery into the battery compartment,
lining up the polarity symbols on the battery with those
inside the compartment.
Charging the Battery
1. Plug the small end of the power adaptor
into the DC-in port located on the back of
the unit. Plug the other end of the power
adaptor into a standard AC outlet. The
battery indicator LED on the unit will light
red to show that the battery is charging.
2. When the battery is fully charged, the battery indicator LED will turn off. Unplug
the unit.
3. You can now use your microscope for up to one hour of continuous use. When the
battery power is low, the low-power indicator on the lower right side of the panel
will dim. Image quality will degrade. Connect the power adaptor and plug it in to
recharge the battery.
Inserting a MicroSDHC™ Memory Card (not included)
You must insert a microSDHC™ card (not supplied) to record
and store your pictures and videos.
1. Turn off the microscope.
2. Insert the card into the microSDHC™ card slot;
gently press in until card is secured.
Note: Do not force the card into the slot; forcing may
damage microscope and the memory card.
Note: The memory card must be formatted before
capturing/storing. Please familiarize yourself with the menu
options and then see the section "Format microSDHC™ Card."
Note: Please use microSDHC™ Class C6~C10 card for video
recording. A lower-speed card may result in image lag for fast-moving objects.
For still image capture a lower-speed card is acceptable.

Operating the Microscope:
Observation
1. Turn the microscope on or off by pressing the power on/off button on the right
side of the control panel.
2. Power Save: Please refer to section on Auto Power-Off.
3. Place object onto stage. For flat objects, use the 2 clips on stage to hold object
in place.
4. Rotate the stage height adjustment knob to raise or lower the stage.
5. To lock the stage position, firmly hold the stage height adjustment knob with one
hand. With the other hand, rotate the locking knob toward you.
6. Turn the LED light brightness control wheel to turn on and adjust the light.
7. Select the degree of magnification by sliding the magnification zoom control up
and down. The magnification ranges from 1x to 4x.
8. Turn the focus adjustment knob to focus.

Color Mode
In preview status, press the Color Mode/Up button to select a Color/Positive/
Negative image.
Previewing on a Computer Screen
1. Connect the microscope to computer via USB cable.
2. Choose Mass Storage to view captured images.
3. To preview images on the computer, choose PC Camera. Run the
PortableCaptureHD software. (Please refer to the PortableCaptureHD
software user guide.)
Note: When working on a computer, the unit's button functions are no longer
operable and must be accessed via the PortableCaptureHD software. The
maximum image size for video is 720P, and 1280 x 720 for stills.

Connecting to HDTV / Monitor
You may connect your microscope to a large HDTV screen via HDMI cable for the
following advantages:
• Live preview of your object in 1080P high definition (FHD) for easy focusing.
• You may capture and save still images of the focused object while previewing.
• Captured images saved on the microSDHC™ card can be played back and viewed
on the HDTV screen via the HDMI connection. The image on the screen is a Full
HD image.
Other possible connections to HDTV:
• You may connect your microscope to the HDTV via USB cable for reviewing
images if your HDTV supports USB link.
• You may connect your microscope via video cable to your HDTV or standard TV,
but the image quality will not be as good as HDMI connection.
Note: The HDMI cable connection does not support video recording. Video recording
only can be performed without a TV connection. For more details about HDTV
connections via HDMI/USB/Video, please refer to your HDTV manual.
Image & Video Capture
1. Press the Back/Playback button to switch between still photo mode and
video mode.
2. Press the Capture button to take a photo or to start recording video.
3. Press the Capture button again to stop recording video.

Note: Navigate between icons by pressing the up or down buttons on the control
panel or by pressing the magnification wheel.

Playback:
1. Press Back/Playback to enter playback mode. Review icon appears in the left
corner of the screen.
2. Press the UP/DOWN buttons to select captured pictures and video clips.
Delete:
1. To delete: In the playback mode, press the Menu/Settings button to enter
the submenu.
2. Select Delete Current or Delete All.
3. Confirm deletion by pressing OK.
Protect:
1. In the playback mode, press the
Menu/Settings button to enter
the submenu.
2. Choose from Lock options to lock
and protect pictures from deletion.
3. Confirm by pressing OK.

Slide Show:
1. In the playback mode, press the
Menu/Settings button to enter
the submenu.
2. Select the interval time.
3. Confirm by pressing OK.

Download Captured Images from microSDHC™ Card to Computer
1. Make sure your microSDHC™ card is inserted into the slot on the microscope.
2. Connect the microscope to a computer via the USB cable.
3. Choose Mass Storage to view stored photos & videos. They are saved in “DCIM.”
Menu Settings
1. Press the Back/Playback button to enter the main menu. NOTE: The main menu
consists of 2 screens: Menu 1 and Menu 2. To access to Menu 2, press the Back/
Playback button again.
2. Press the Down button to scroll through your choices.
3. When your setting choice is highlighted, press the OK button.

Menu 1 Functions:
Resolution, Time-lapse Capture, Quality, Sharpness, Exposure, Date Stamp.
1. Press the Down button to scroll through your choices.
2. When your setting choice is highlighted, press the OK button.
Set Resolution
1. Select a resolution from options:
WVGA/2M/3M/5M/8M/14M.
2. Press OK to confirm.
Time-lapse Still Capture:
You can set the device to take images,
ranging from 2 to 999 images, over a
defined time period.
From menu 1, choose Time-lapse Capture
and press the OK button.
Note: To avoid premature battery power
drainage, use the AC adaptor.

Lapse Num:
Select the number of still images want your device to take.
1. Use the Down button to scroll through the numbers from
2. 0 to 9. When satisfied with the first digit, press the Back
3. button to advance to the next digit. Repeat.
4. Once the number of still images has been chosen, press the
5. Back button to move to the Lapse Time options.
Lapse Time:
1. Follow same procedure as above. Use the Down and Back buttons to set the
time between 1 second and 999 seconds. This, along with the number of images
chosen, will determine the overall length of time for your time lapse. (For example:
If you choose to take 999 total images and the interval between each is 999
seconds you will have 277 hours ‒or 11.55 days ‒total documentation time.)
2. Once you have set your number of images and interval, press the OK button
to confirm.
3. Press the Back button to return to the streaming image.
4. Press the Capture button to start the time lapse.
5. Once all frames have been taken in the Time Lapse mode, the microscope will
revert back to the normal preview mode.
Note: The Auto Power-Off time needs to be set to a number higher than the set time-
lapse time. Please see the section on the Auto Power-Off feature and make sure to
calculate correctly.
Time-lapse Video Capture:
For video time-lapse recording, select the video recording mode and follow the
same procedure as above. Recording time is fixed at 90 seconds per frame.
Image Quality:
1. From menu 1, use the Down button to
choose Quality and then press OK.
2. Use the Down button to choose Fine,
Normal or Economy. (The quality
setting will determine the compression
ratio of the image.)
3. Press OK.

Sharpness:
1. From menu 1, use the Down button to
choose Sharpness and then press OK.
2. Use the Down button to choose Strong,
Normal or soft.
3. Press OK.

Exposure (Brightness):
1. Select the value by pressing the
Down button.
2. Confirm choice by pressing the
OK button.
Date Stamp:
1. From menu 1, use the Down button to
choose Date Stamp and then press OK.
2. Choose Off, Date only, or Date/Time.
3. Press OK.

Menu 2 Functions:
Date/Time, Auto Power-Off, Language, TV Mode, Frequency, Format, Default
Setting, Version.
1. Press the Back button twice to access Menu 2.
2. Use the Down button to scroll through options.
3. When your selection is highlighted, press OK.

Date/Time:
1. Select the year, day, month, and time
by using the Up, Down and Back
buttons.
2. You can select from among 3 formats:
YY/MM/DD, DD/MM/YY, and MM/DD/YY.
3. Press OK.
Main Menu 2
Auto Power-Off:
Set the unit to turn off automatically after
a period of inactivity.
• The default setting is Off; this will keep
your device on until you manually turn
it off.
• Use the Up and Down buttons to
choose to have the unit automatically
turn off after 3 minutes, 10 minutes, or
30 minutes of continuous non-use.
• Press OK after choosing your setting.

Language:
1. Use the Up and Down buttons to scroll
through the language choices.
2. When your selection is highlighted,
press OK.

TV Mode:
Choose the format that is compatible
with your TV: NTSC or PAL.
Frequency:
Choose the appropriate frequency for
your region: 50Hz or 60Hz.
Format microSDHC™ Card:
1. Insert your microSDHC™ Card.
2. Choose Format from the main menu
2 settings.
3. Choose SD Card.
Note: All previously stored files on the card
will be deleted after card formatting
Note: Please use microSDHC™ Class
C6~C10 card for video recording. A lower-
speed card may result in image lag for fast-
moving objects. For still image capture a
lower-speed card is acceptable.

Default Setting:
Select the Default Setting to reset the
system back to its original parameters.

Version:
Select to view product version information.
Troubleshooting:
Problem
Solution
The unit does not turn on.
Make sure the battery is fully charged or plug the unit into the AC
adapter and an outlet.
Press the power button
Time-lapse capturing
terminated.
Auto Power-Off time setting may be shorter than time lapse setting.
Refer to section on Time-lapse.
The screen is blank.
Ensure that the power is on and the battery is fully charged.
Check that the item you want to magnify is positioned correctly
under the lens.
Use the magnification zoom control, focus control, and stage height
adjustment knob to bring your object into view.
There are smudges or
blemishes on the screen. Clean the screen and lens carefully with a soft fabric.
Microscope is connected to a
television, but no image
appears on the television
screen.
Ensure that the television is on.
Switch to the appropriate video input channel on your television.
Ensure that the HDMI / video cable is securely connected to the
microscope port and plugged into the correct input port on your
television.
Cannot preview image from
USB link to HDTV.
HDTV with USB link only supports image review, acting like a Pen
Drive device connection.
Not able to take video when
connected to TV via HDMI
cable.
The system does not support video capture with HDMI connection to
TV. It only supports still image capture via HDMI.
The battery indicator LED is
not red, even though the
power adaptor is connected
and plugged into a wall
socket.
-or-
The battery is not charging.
Make sure the power cord in plugged into the microscope’s DC-in
port.
Ensure that the outlet has power and is not malfunctioning. If the
outlet is connected to a wall switch, make sure that the switch is on.
