INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of the UltraLite Beehive Fine Jewelry
Kiln. This kiln was originally developed for Fine Metals Granulation,
Enameling, Annealing and Fusing Glass.
There are several new accessories complete with instructions allowing
for more jewelry options:
•Ceramic Insert to fire Precious Metal Clay’s
•Temperature controller to vary Kiln Temperature to fire
Metal Clay and burnout cork clay slowly.
•Red Brass covers to Keum-Boo Gold Foil onto Silver.
•Enameling Trivets.
•Newly improved Flat Cover with a mirror finish to increase kiln
temperature by 100 degrees F.
•Hot Pad is a high temperature rubber pad to protect your tabletop
and stabilize your kiln.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
•Do not touch hot surfaces. Care should be taken in the placement
of the hot cover and spatula.
•To protect against risk of electrical shock, do not immerse cord,
plug or heating unit in water.
•Do not operate Kiln with a damaged cord or the ceramic body.
•Close supervision is necessary when using near children.
•Safety glasses should be worn when using. Clear safety glasses
should provide adequate UV protection.
•The use of accessories attachments not recommended by JEC will
void warranty and could cause injury.
•Do not leave Kiln unattended during use.
•Unplug from outlet when not in use and allow the Kiln to cool
before storing.
•Do not use the UltraLite Kiln for other than its intended use.
PREPARING THE ULTRALITE KILN FOR USE
•Use a minimum 16 gauge 6’ extension cord. If you are going to
require a longer cord use a 14 gauge.
•If an extension cord is used it should be placed so that it will not
be tripped on accidentally.
•When using the Kiln provide adequate air space above and on
all sides.
•On surfaces that heat is a problem an insulated hot pad is
recommended.
•First time only, Plug the Kiln in and leave it uncovered for 30
minutes, then cover for 15 minutes. This will allow the cement
to cure and the manufacturing oils to burn off, there will be a
very slight odor, You’re now ready to use your Kiln.
•Preheat time with the lid on is 45 minutes to reach the
maximum maintained temperature of 1550oF.
NORMAL WEAR
You may notice a discoloration in the white cord next to the
bottom of the Kiln, the double insulated high temperature wire is
protected with an additional outer fiber sleeving that is prone to a
brown discoloration.
CARE OF YOUR KILN
•If any materials fall into your Kiln, unplug and allow to cool,
then simply turn the Kiln upside-down.
•When your not going to use your Kiln its best to cover your kiln
in a plastic bag or moisture proof container for storage.
