7 vehicles. 1 purpose.
“A nimble off-roader.”
— Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com(1)
With the 2009 Jeep®Patriot, you’re going places. A 2WD system fortified with a standard Electronic Stability Program
(ESP)(2) and traction control gets you through most challenging road conditions. Go the distance in more severe
conditions, such as deeper snow and sand, with the available Freedom-Drive I active full-time 4WD with LOCK mode and an available AutoStick
shifter with six “speeds.” AutoStick allows the driver to maximize engine braking, control upshifts and downshifts, and optimize overall performance
and control. Those who dream of taking the gang on an off-road quest to bask in the sun at that amazing secluded beach will get there with
Patriot’s available Trail Rated®Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group. It helps earn Patriot the nod for BEST-IN-CLASS off-road capability.
(3) It’s due
to the system’s active, full-time 4WD with LOCK mode, Hill Descent Control (HDC) with Grade Sensing, skid plates, tow hooks, increased ground
clearance, heavy-duty cooling and alternator, and driver-seat height adjuster matched to a Continuously Variable Automatic Transaxle (CVT2L)
with 19:1 crawl ratio. Patriot comes with an exclusive Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty(4) that stays with you, no matter how far and wide
you travel, for as long as you claim ownership. JEEP TRAIL RATED®vehicles are designed to perform in a variety of off-road conditions identified
by five performance categories: ARTICULATION — The ability to keep tires in contact with the ground, providing traction to climb
over large obstacles. TRACTION — The ability to transfer power to the road or trail along with the ability of the suspension to
keep the wheels in contact with the terrain. MANEUVERABILITY — The ability to navigate around obstacles that are tightly
situated. GROUND CLEARANCE — The ability to drive over large obstacles or logs in combination with approach/departure/
breakover angles. WATER FORDING — The ability to cross a specific depth of water at a specific speed.
(5) (1)2008 model year reference. (2)No system, no matter how
sophisticated, can repeal the laws of physics or overcome careless driving actions. Performance is limited by available traction, which snow, ice and other conditions can affect. When the ESP warning lamp in the
speedometer flashes, the driver needs to use less throttle and adapt speed and driving behavior to prevailing road conditions. Always drive carefully, consistent with conditions. Always wear your seat belt. (3)Based
on Ward’s 2008 Small Cross-Utility Vehicle segment. (4)No deductible. See dealer for a copy of limited warranty details. Non-Transferable. Not available on SRT,®diesel vehicles and certain fleet vehicles. (5)Do not
attempt water fording unless depth is known to be less than 19 inches. Traversing water can cause damage that may not be covered by the new vehicle warranty. Always off-road responsibly in approved areas.
Jeep®Patriot Limited with Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group shown in Bright Silver Metallic.
When you pair the standard 5-speed manual transmission with a brawny yet efficient 2.4L dual VVT engine, the 2009
Jeep®Patriot zooms off to achieve BEST-IN-CLASS EPA 4WD 28 hwy mpg fuel efficiency,
(1) while delivering
172 hp supported by 165 lb-ft of torque. The engine’s dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT) electronically
controls both intake and exhaust valves, four valves per cylinder (16V total), in response to the driver’s
demands, helping to improve power and encourage an economically sound performance. And should
you live in a state that has adopted California emissions standards, the available 2.4L VVT PZEV engine allows
Patriot to qualify as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV).
(2) Patriot’s efficiency on select models has earned the
highly esteemed SmartWay®certification.
(3) The SmartWay certification mark, developed by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, identifies each vehicle’s air pollution and greenhouse gas performance. Lower emissions
and higher fuel economy earn higher scores, and those vehicles with the best scores are eligible for the SmartWay
designation. Please visit epa.gov/greenvehicles for a list of the specific vehicle types that meet the SmartWay
standards. The available Continuously Variable Automatic Transaxle (CVT2) with AutoStick uses a 30-mm high-strength multilayer steel drive
belt and two active V pulleys to vary vehicle speed, resulting in a smooth and quiet ride. For added performance and a nice dose of fun, the
driver can grab the system’s AutoStick shifter to manually control upshifts and downshifts for clutchless shifting between six discrete “gear
ratios.” Or, on its own, CVT2 breezes through an infinitely variable number of gear ratios and speeds that transmit a constant stream of smooth
power for both optimum fuel economy(1) and high-revving highway-passing muscle when needed. Go for Trail Rated®capability with Patriot’s
available Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group. It gives you the ground clearance and approach and departure angles that let you really get your
game on when you go off road. The Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group employs the CVT2L for an effective 19:1:1 overall “first gear” crawl ratio
and BEST-IN-CLASS off-road capability.
(4) The trailer tow wiring connector and cooling upgrades found in the Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group
prepares your Patriot with all the right stuff so you can bring up to 2,000 lb of fun along for the ride.
(5) Patriot’s optional 2.0L four-cylinder engine
cranks out a healthy 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque — an impressive performance for an engine this size (available with CVT2 only and on Sport
2WD). (1)EPA est 23 city/28 hwy mpg; 4WD models equipped with 5-speed manual transmission versus 2008 Ward’s Small Cross/Utility Vehicle segment. (2)Not available in all states or with all drivetrains. See
your dealer for details. Late availability. (3)Based on 2008 EPA SmartWay Designation. (4)When properly equipped and with Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group. Based on overall static scoring of available features vs
2008 Ward’s Small Cross/Utility Vehicle segment. (5)When properly equipped with the Trailer Tow Prep Group and 2.4L engine.
Our VVT means better mpg.
Jeep®Patriot received the highest marks — Five Stars — during side crash tests performed as part of the
U.S. Department of Transportation’s SaferCar.gov program.
(1) This means you can head out with confidence,
knowing you’re outfitted with a comprehensive set of safety and security features. Patriot’s air bag(2) system includes a front and rear side-curtain
and advanced multistage driver and front passenger air bags. A standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP)(3) integrates a host of systems that
include a four-wheel antilock brake system (ABS), all-speed traction control, a Brake Assist system that automatically helps provide strong
braking power in emergency situations, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) that can apply appropriate braking and reduce engine power when
sharp steering actions and/or impending wheel lift is detected, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and available Hill Descent Control (HDC).
A Tire Pressure Warning Lamp or available Tire Pressure Monitoring Display provide notification of high or low pressure on individual tires via
an instrument panel readout or warning light (depending on system). Patriot’s safety cage structure contains a front crumple zone that absorbs
energy during a frontal impact and a high-strength cross-beam under the rear seat that helps transfer side-impact energy from one side to the
other. Plus, a standard Sentry Key®Antitheft Engine Immobilizer makes it virtually
impossible to drive without a valid key. (1)Five Star ratings are part of the 2008 U.S. Government’s SaferCar.gov
program (safercar.gov). (2)Always sit properly in the seat with the seat belt fastened. Children 12 and under should always be in a
backseat correctly using an infant or child restraint system, or the seat belt positioned correctly for the child’s age and weight. Air
bags shown deployed for illustrative purposes only. (3)No system, no matter how sophisticated, can repeal the laws of physics or
overcome careless driving actions. Performance is limited by available traction, which snow, ice and other conditions can affect.
When the ESP warning lamp in the speedometer flashes, the driver needs to use less throttle and adapt speed and driving behavior
to prevailing road conditions. Always drive carefully, consistent with conditions. Always wear your seat belt.
Play it safe out there.
