LABORATORY OVENS

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Cabinet appears ‘dead’.
Check that the power lead is correctly fitted into a working socket
and also pushed firmly into the rear connector on the cabinet. Check that the cabinet is
switched on using the illuminated green power switch on the front of the cabinet.
Temperature is erratic.
This is usually caused by over-filling the cabinet.
Overheat red safety light is permanently on.
The cabinet will not be heating above the safety
dial setting even if the operating temperature is set higher. If safe, increase the safety setting.
Cabinet is not heating.
1 Is the red safety light on? Adjust operating temperature and/or safety dial. The
amber heat light should now come on and the cabinet should be warming up.
If the amber light is on but the cabinet is not heating the problem will probably be
either a faulty overheat safety thermostat or heating element.
2 On fan models if the cabinet is warm at the top and hot at the base it will
probably be the fan at fault. Replace the fan. Fan failures are usually the result of
spillages not being cleaned up properly. You can hear the fan working if you listen
close to the cabinet or open the door a little.
There is a nasty smell.
The usual cause is that a spillage has not been cleaned away properly and
that fluids have reached the heating element which has started scorching the residue. On some
models a nasty smell can be caused as a result of overheating a seized fan motor. Replace both
the fan motor and cooling fan blade.
Amber light keeps going on and off.
This is normal operation and is not a fault.
Safety thermostat reads incorrectly.
This is caused by someone forcing the dial knob. Gently
force the dial knob back – clockwise to decrease the reading and anticlockwise to increase the
reading.
Door won’t close properly.
The door roller catch mechanism needs adjustment or replacing.
If in doubt please call your supplier.

This apparatus MUST be fully earthed.
For a complete electrical disconnection pull out the mains plug.
Cleaning:
This is an electrical appliance. The chamber and outside cabinet should only be
cleaned with a damp detergent cloth or alcohol wipe only after disconnection
from the electric supply and cooling. Leave the door open to aid drying before
plugging in the electric supply and switching on again.
Spillages:
All spillages must be cleaned up immediately – remember to disconnect from the
electric supply first. Major spillages in the chamber should be cleaned away and
the appliance checked by a competent electrician before being put back into use.
Any damage caused by spillages is not covered by the warranty.
This appliance must not be used in the presence of flammable vapours.
The fan, if fitted, is designed to run continuously even with the door open.

HEALTH & SAFETY
Employ only qualified engineers. Before starting any maintenance work:
Pull out the mains plug for a complete electrical disconnection.
This is a heated device. Internal surfaces can be very hot. Allow sufficient time
for surfaces to cool.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1 Site the cabinet on an even, level surface. Special static or mobile stands
are available.
2 Connect to the mains supply and switch on. The on/off switch will
illuminate. Wait for the orange heat lamp to come on (can take a few
minutes whilst the controller self actuates).
3 Set the digital controller to the desired operating temperature.
4 The amber heat light will illuminate when there is power applied to the
heating element. Once the chamber air temperature has reached the
required operating temperature the amber light will periodically switch
on and off.
5 To adjust the operating setting on cabinets fitted with a K49 digital
controller push ‘P’ then use the /\ and \/ buttons to display the desired
control temperature (lower display), then push the ‘P’ button again to
confirm the new setting. Wait about 10 seconds and the display will now
show the new ‘set’ (lower number) and ‘measured’ (top number) values.
The cabinet will now start to control to the new set value.
6 The internal overheat safety thermostat is factory set to cut power to the
heating element if the measured temperature exceeds safe temperatures:
400°C (LHT models) or 500°C (HT models).
It is not user adjustable.
If in doubt please call your supplier.
