This manual contains all details necessary for the planning and installation of the JS
HumEvap Mobile Humidifier. In addition commissioning, operating and maintenance
details are included.
The manual is intended for use by engineers and properly trained technical
personnel. Maintenance, servicing or repair work must only be carried out by suitably
skilled and qualified personnel, the customer MUST be responsible for ensuring their
suitability.
No liability will attach to JS Humidifiers plc if any damage, injury or accident is
attributable to inattentive, inappropriate, negligent or incorrect installation and
operation of the machinery whether or not caused deliberately.
Always isolate all electrical and water supplies before commencing any maintenance.
Please contact JS Humidifiers plc if in any doubt.
Warning! This Humidifier must be installed, operated and maintained in
accordance with this manual. Failure to do so could result in contamination
that might cause Legionnaires’ disease, which can be fatal.
Your attention is drawn to the Health and Safety Executive's Approved Code of
Practice (ACoP) and their technical guidance on the prevention and control of
legionellosis in water systems. If inadequately maintained, water systems, of which
any humidifier is a part, can support the growth of micro-organisms including the
bacterium that causes Legionnaires' disease. JS Humidifiers plc has considered all
aspects of the design of their humidification systems to reduce as far as possible the
risk of Legionnaires' disease and other similar conditions but it is important that users
are also aware of their responsibilities under the ACoP in reducing the risk of
legionellosis.
To prevent the growth of legionella, users are required to:
Carry out a risk assessment of the water system by a competent
person, and implement a monitoring and control regime.
Avoid water temperatures that favour the growth of legionella
(20-45°C);
Avoid water stagnation;
Clean and disinfect the humidification system in accordance with the
ACoP and enclosed instructions;
NEVER leave your HumEvap Mobile out of operation containing water for more than
24hrs, as it could result in contamination that might cause Legionnaires’ disease,
which can be fatal. In the event that the humidifier is turned off for prolonged periods,
ensure that the water reservoir and pipe-work supplying the unit are drained, unless
they supply other systems which ensure a regular renewal of water in the system. If
the unit is found to have been out of operation for more than 24hrs containing water,
water stagnation and contamination may occur, and the system will require thorough
cleaning.
If you intend to shut the system down for any length of time please contact JS
Humidifiers plc for advice.
The JS HumEvap Mobile Humidifier is only intended for light industrial direct air
humidification and any other or further application is not considered use for the
intended purpose. The manufacturer cannot be made liable for any damage resulting
from incorrect use.
JS Humidifiers systems are designed to be used with mains or softened water. On no
account attempt to introduce any other fluid or chemical into the system without first
consulting JS Humidifiers.
Water supply installation must comply with local regulations.
The water supply to the JS HumEvap Mobile should be free of microbial
contamination and should run at less than 20 C within 2 minutes of turning on supply
The Customer MUST ensure that an appropriate overflow pipe is fitted to the Auto-Fill
unit.
Our policy is one of continuous research and development. We therefore reserve the
right to amend without notice the specifications given in this document.

It is essential that clean water be supplied to the Unit to ensure
hygienic, trouble-free operation.
This water supply MUST be checked regularly to ensure there is no
microbiological build up within the building's water supply.
This is particularly significant if, for example, the Unit’s supply is at the
end of a dead leg where water might stand for some time or if the
water comes from a storage tank.
If you have any queries regarding water sampling and testing
please contact JS Humidifiers plc on 01903 850200.
The HumEvap Mobile Unit is available in two configurations:
1 - Manual filling of the Water Reservoir.
2- Auto-fill and Overflow arrangement fitted to the Water Reservoir.
This enables the humidifier to be connected directly to a water
supply and drain pipe for automatic performance.

Introduction
Principle of Operation
The energy efficient HumEvap humidification system operates by the
principle of evaporation, where the energy required to evaporate
moisture is taken from the passing air flow. This in turn increases the
relative humidity of the air, while decreasing the dry bulb
temperature, producing an adiabatic cooling effect.
(See diagram below).
Mains or demineralised water in the Water Reservoir is used to
moisten the rotating evaporative pads.
Air, drawn from the room through the anti-bacterial filter, travels
through the wetted evaporative pads and absorbs water as it passes.
This humidified air is distributed into the room through the air outlet
grilles.

Flow Pressure Restrictors
Position the Unit within one meter of the electrical, water and drain
pipe facilities.
Follow the advice stated above for the Manual unit plus the following:
Ensure that the water supply is turned OFF.
Two flow restrictors (high pressure HP and low pressure LP) are
supplied with the Torbeck valve to match the pressure of the water
supply. The L.P. restrictor is fitted as standard.
For a tank fed supply:
Less than 7.5m (24ft) head of water; no restrictor fitted.
Between 7.5m (24ft) and 37m (120ft); fit L.P. restrictor.
Over 37m (120ft); fit H.P. restrictor.
For a pressured (non-tank) water supply:
Less than 4.0 bar (60psi); fit L.P. restrictor.
Over 4.0 bar (60psi) fit H.P. restrictor.
To change the restrictor, remove the Torbeck float valve from its
elbow and replace the L.P. with the H.P. If tank fed, with tank less
than 7.5m head of water, remove the L.P. restrictor and have none.
It is essential the overflow pipe can cope with the flow of water
from the Torbeck valve when it is fully open.
1Fit the flexibel filling hose and rubber seal onto the 1/2” BSP inlet
of the Torbeck float valve tank connector fitted to the Water
Reservoir.
2Screw the other end of this filling hose, and it’s rubber seal, to the
outlet of the Self-cutting valve
Ensure the Overflow pipe is within one meter of a drain pipe.
If not possible, the Overflow pipe is extendable to approx 2metres.
1 One end fits over the short pipe projecting from the connector on
the Water Reservoir. This is secured with a Jubilee clip.
2 The other end is a push fit into a rubber bung fitted into the branch
port of the drain tee (not supplied with the Unit).

Fitting Self- cutting Valve to
Existing Copper Pipework
Final Checks
The self-cutting valve is suitable for 15mm copper tube and should be fitted
as follows:
1 To position valve outlet in the direction required:
a) screw chrome locknut hand-tight against shoulder of valve.
b) screw valve into saddle until locknut contacts saddle.
c) decide which way valve is to be fitted to pipe for positioning of valve outlet
Note: after water connection is made valve can be unscrewed to a maximum
of half a turn for final positioning (see instruction 7 below).
2remove saddle from backplate.
3 screw back plate to wall. use packing piece if necessary to ensure pipe sits
in grove in backplate.
NB: The back plate must be firmly fixed to the wall to avoid distortion of the
copper pipe and possible leakage when screwing valve into saddle.
4Remove valve from saddle complete with cutter and seal.
5 Ensure the rubber seal is correctly located within the body of the saddle,
then screw saddle to backplate.
6 screw valve into saddle by hand until locknut contacts saddle. Water
connection is then made.
NB: Do not attempt to overtighten valve; screwing valve in until locknut
contacts is quite sufficient.
7 For final positioning of valve, unscrew valve no further than 1/2 turn.
Tighten locknut against saddle a maximum of hand-tight plus 1/4 of a turn.
8 Fit Torbeck flexibel filling hose and rubber seal washer to the Valve outlet.
Do not turn on the water until the rest of the Installation procedure is
complete.
Turn the self-cutting tap handle anti-clockwise, to allow the water to flow.
Turn ON the electricity supply.
Finally, make sure that all of the connections are firm, and turn on the mains
water.
Check for any signs of water leaks.
Turn ON the Humidifier to check it’s performance.
